I have learned French from zero to nearly fluent few years ago using this app book and recordings.
The this app method is amazing, many polyglots would agree.
But Assimil ...
Terrible!!!
I tried the trial version. It is clunky inelegant and incomprehensible. Kind of be opposite of their method.
The heart of this app method is parallel text. You see the target language and your native language side to side. You translate, you repeat. It is so simple.
Why not to make it like that in Assimil ?
Simple zoomable copy of the book with clickable sentences to activate the audio would be already huge improvement over this amateurish attempt.
I implore the this app team to find a good developer for Assimil .
As it is now, it is ruining the reputation of this legendary method.

It could be so wonderful.
Someday, I hope.
For now, just buy the book and recordings.

This is an expensive purchase to not have any support. I purchased on my iPhone. It won’t work at all on my IPad. Try to email through help on Assimil and that also isn’t working. This company needs to respond to help or not be sold on Assimil Store!

I’m a huge fan of this app for starting a new language. For clarity: this app publishes these courses in books and recordings; Mantano delivers that same content via this and the related apps. Assimil is a straight transcription of the book and recordings. The convenience and simplicity of doing it through Assimil would make it marginally better than the book+recordings format.

However, it only works maybe a third of the time the time. Most mornings, I get up, open Assimil , and watch the pinwheel-of-death spin for five minutes or so. Then I give up and get out the book and play the recordings from my phone while reading along. (Which is essentially all Assimil does.) This is really frustrating since the this app approach works best if you do one lesson per day religiously.

Bottom line: I feel like I paid for the course in Spanish twice - once through Mantano and once through a reputable online bookseller. I regret wasting the money at Mantano. However, if you really want to teach yourself a language, I can’t praise this app enough.

I am extremely disappointed I was very excited when I saw that this app had an app where I could purchase their books in digital form, but unfortunately that’s where the good news ends. After purchasing my item the site simply timed-out and the book would not download. After many attempts I contacted this app by text but because of the time difference has been long and drawn out. Save yourself the aggravation and just buy the physical books. It’s a shame its a good idea but the execution is a disaster.

For the first 2-3 weeks I was able to login to Assimil and complete lessons. As of recently all I get is the loading circle and it never actually loads which slows down my learning ability.
