The old app was great. Easy to use, you could print the Sudoku, you could easily go back and look at past editions, it was easy to navigate to where you wanted to go, you didn’t have to deal with pop-up ads every time you click on a story, you could listen to an article (in a very robotic voice) when reading is difficult.
That all changed with this new app! You can’t print the sudoku, it jumps around making it hard to find and read an article you want to read. It forces you to deal with pop-up ads. You can’t go back and look at past editions. in short, it makes reading the newspaper so frustrating and time-consuming it’s not worth it. We’ve had a subscription to the Register Guard for decades, I’m on the verge of canceling it.

No Swipe option; have to click on arrow to change page. Ads (from non-local businesses) pop up regularly obscuring content. Impossible to simply set page size for viewing or to zoom in or out. When viewing the list of pages for an edition, you can’t just click on one to view. I can’t view my account payment options. Absolutely NOT user-friendly.

I would assume the makers of TheRegisterGuardNews have looked at other newspaper apps like WaPo or the NYT. While not perfect, at least in those apps it is easy to find what type of article you are looking for.

TheRegisterGuardNews lacks any organization or charm. All I want to do is cancel my subscription (mostly bc of TheRegisterGuardNews ) and I feel like I’m trapped in a labyrinth. It Is impossible.

I assume the print is decent. TheRegisterGuardNews is garbage.

This media outlet has major issues from reporting to editing (the typos, omg) to delivery, TheRegisterGuardNews is no different. Photos are rendered too large to view, TheRegisterGuardNews jumps all the way to the bottom of a story when you try to scroll past the giant photo to the next line of text, forcing you to scroll back up and effectively read the story backward, and topping it all off, TheRegisterGuardNews shuts down regularly while in use. It’s borderline fraudulent to charge $20/mo. for a “lite” print version full of useless ads and outdated stories which refers to this junky app to access breaking news and updates. The only reason we haven’t canceled is due to our community support pledge during the pandemic. It’s a shame the owner/publisher doesn’t leverage their digital resources to deliver a better quality news experience.

Horrible. Difficult to use. Jumps around and makes it extremely annoying. And pop up ads??? Really??? I already pay for the newspaper which is mostly ads these days and now I have endure pop up ads? Disgraceful. It is not user friendly and may just give up the paper altogether if I can’t find a way around this horrible app.

I’m not going to even mention the deteriorated R-G…oops, I already did! TheRegisterGuardNews is very frustrating: often when I touch my iPad screen to change pages or enlarge an article, TheRegisterGuardNews goes to an entire article; However, the worst thing is when the entire app freezes on a page and I simply have to sit and wait until it’s ready to move on (this is, in fact what I’m waiting for as I write this)

This is a pathetic app, I was forced into it by someone I could barely understand, told it was the latest and I should have it. Big mistake doesn’t stay on the article. Pictures are hard to look at not one bit better than the original registered guard app I had, but I made the change. My bad Hugh Cochran.

…but for the last couple of years I haven’t been able to do that. TheRegisterGuardNews works on my iPhone and lap top but I can’t log in from the iPad. Support has had me change passwords ad nauseam followed by escalation to a senior tech, followed by frustrated indifference on my part as I give up. I’ve gone through this scenario 3-4 times over the past couple of years. I don’t understand why they can’t come up with a solution.

Forced to use TheRegisterGuardNews when the old one was discontinued. So frustrated. The e-newspaper worked for a week, now it fails to load everyday. Not all RG articles are available in other section of TheRegisterGuardNews , so I can’t access the RG content I’m paying for. Submitted feedback using TheRegisterGuardNews ’s support feature a week ago, received no response and nothing changed. Considering ending my subscription after more than 10 years of electronic subscription.

This RG app has always been glitchy and since USA TODAY acquired the newspaper, it has got only worse. Pop up advertisements are not stop and it jumps from single to double screens if you blink at it. It’s bad enough that the news is 3 days old, now the incessant ads darken your screen until you tap the little ‘x’ to delete them.

The Gannet Register-Guard app usually is dependable, except when it isn’t. But the actual paper itself is like that too. Evidently without an Editor, the grammatical mistakes and incorrectly-used words are distracting, but I balk at two- and three-day-old news. And trying to read the paper on an iPhone. All TheRegisterGuardNews can do is make the paper available, and it is left to the reader to decide if it is worth the effort.

I’m not able to get the actual newspaper like I did on the previous Ap ( green one). Just articles. And I am unable to access the extra editions like USA Today like my wife does on her iPad using the older green Ap. I set up my new iPad recently and the only Ap available was the one with the white background.

Does not work well. Will not focus quickly or at all page to page. Seems to think it can decide what you want to read and show you that first. Will not turn and adjust when you turn your phone sideways. I think they have work to do on it.

The new app is difficult and a nuisance to use. The reporting of local news and sports is often later than in a publication from Portland. The restrictions on cancellation of a subscription are too severe. I plan on canceling mine when my current subscription is near its end. BEWARE, one must cancel well before your subscription expires.

I find the new app to be very difficult to use. When I opened the newspaper this morning I was presented with an edition from 2 days ago and can’t figure out how to do so. The old app, while not great, was easier to use.

TheRegisterGuardNews works fine. But I have been going to local TV online news sites instead of opening TheRegisterGuardNews . Why? TheRegisterGuardNews always opens to sports articles. I’m not looking for sports; I’m looking for straight news.

I am a new subscriber. I enjoy the content (especially local news), but find it annoying to wade through previously posted stories.

I have a subscription but TheRegisterGuardNews doesn’t recognize me, so I can’t view the subscriber only news. It’s very frustrating.

This is my morning newspaper and aside from the initial getting signed in and a million “I’m not a robot” roadblocks, it recognizes me without any problems and functions as it should.

Works good. Just wish there’d be a heads up before it changed to a different app, once again.
