I’m an avid Akai MPC One user, using it as my main writing and performing tool so I was really stoked to use the iPhone app for sketching out ideas and building simple projects to import into my MPC One later on, unfortunately iMPCPro2 crashes a lot and also suffers from weird audio dropouts which I haven’t been able to figure out. Hopefully iMPCPro2 will get an update in the future because based on what I’ve used of it, it’s fast, fun and easy to put ideas together.
Yet another of those appstore apps that has no people behind it that care. Bought the prerelease and installed audiocopy to get the included 4 sample packs that were in the content store the morning of the release. However they were not enabled to access and wanted to redirect to "buy" impc pro 2 again - wrote support, no answer... about an hour later Audiocopy gets an update with the note "added support for the impc pro 2 for iphone" and a bit later the first update to impc pro 2 for iphone also claiming added support for audiocopy - go back to the content store and what do you know all 4 packs that were there are now removed... wrote support again and again no answer. Not a great way to start an app launch and hoping not to regret this purchase. Fix this and I can rate it higher but for now it's a bit pathetic to mess this prerelease offer up right from the get go.
An update to the original iMPC was desperately needed. Don’t expect to much more than a slimmed down version of the IPad rendition. It does in fact work and if you are familiar with the workflow, you’ll see that pretty much nothing has changed except the screen real estate. Perfect for grinding out some beats when you have spare time away from the lab. In my opinion much more than an impulse buy or something to just add to your collection of apps you never really use. This is essential for beatsmiths with Iphones
Update: Nah B, Retronyms is playing us. Either Akai/Inmusic ain’t contracted improvements or they gave up. At this point it’s not nearly usable or desirable to use despite the high chart position
Not sure with the New iOS iMPCPro2 is faulty, but I noticed when using the turntable to sample from iTunes, iMPCPro2 shuts off making you lose all of your current progress. 5 star app prior to this, but iMPCPro2 is now useless if you’re trying to sample from iTunes. I’m almost certain it has to do with the apple update because iMPCPro2 was fine prior to that. I do know a few years ago the IMPC app became buggy when there was an iOS update. It took months before they fixed it. Hope that’s not the case again. Highly disappointed with this bug.
Was super excited to use iMPCPro2 but you are forced to use a different app to load samples and files. No big deal other than the fact that iMPCPro2 is never able to connect to the AudioCopy app. It just says failed to connect. Sooo iMPCPro2 is completely useless at least in my opinion. MPC is made for sampling audio, but not when you can’t add any samples. Of course you have to buy iMPCPro2 first to realize it doesn’t actually work.
They want you to jump through hoops n learn to buy more stuff and download or create other accounts before they give you functional parts of work flow. That would be fine if it was a free app. But it’s not. There were glitches that kept me from getting some of those things. I’m not the smartest guy. But I worked my way through mpc bible. So I don’t think it’s me.
I went through sooo much work to figure out how to get my everyday recordings into iMPC as I’m not going to whip out the entire app just to record a sound, it’s inconvenient and drains your battery. So I finally get all my sounds into audiopaste, a horrible decision on inter-app partnership, but what do I know maybe that’s the only company doing that sort of thing. I can get the sounds loaded onto the pads but when I click “Edit sound” iMPCPro2 instantly crashes every time. iMPCPro2 is so close to being great I just hope it doesn’t end up abandoned like the last version.
You are have to go thru their ‘store’ and load via a very awkward interface. You should be able to access your libraries automatically within the program and wherever you decide to keep them, like iMaschine or any number of other audio apps. This isn’t rocket science, it’s lazy programming. You also, in effect, have to buy this TWICE if you want to use it full featured on iPad.
iMPCPro2 is awesome except, like other users have noted, it doesn’t have the *standard* ability to connect to your Dropbox or AudioShare libraries. You have to do everything through their “AudioCopy” app which is basically their store for samples.
There are a few steps and you can import your own samples, but you have to open a *different app*, then import your sample into that app, then go back to iMPC and import your sample from their secondary app.... basically cutting you off from your own library, because you aren’t going to want to repeat this process every time you want to grab one of your samples.
Just let us connect to our own libraries as expected. Let your great software speak for itself and make sales, don’t put up this in-app-purchase roadblock where we have to re purchase sounds to have any ease of use.
It’s a great software, but if you like using your own sounds, look elsewhere for now.
It is a little in depth which is fine. As for producing on the impc2 editing midi note is kind of a nightmare… I come from ableton live. I wish they would implement moving midi notes around like they do in “note” (another app made by ableton) I have t figured out how to link the two yet. I haven’t been able to produce a single drum loop on iMPCPro2 and I’ve had it for 2 days now. Maybe it’s on my part?
So I had the original, the pro2 on my iPad which I never open. I downloaded this in hopes of it being stable and it having a quick learning curve as the track/ program or sequence or whatever baffled me and that’s the reason I put it on the back shelf.
To my surprise and super relieved self this version clicked. I get it now and I’m stoked. This is much different than what I’ve been using in my iOS set of machines lately. IMPC Pro2 has a different movement and sound than my beloved GR16, Wave, Seek, ED, and the mighty set of Bram’s machines. This has easily fit nicely into my workflow and I’m happy about it. Of. Of course there are things that bug me about the iMPC but hey, this is iOS here and I’ll use whatever seem to 1st: Be extra fun to play with, and 2: Achieving good result. I’m accomplishing both on the pro2 for iPhone. Good stuff.
I was super excited to come across this. I gave it a few days before I found my self here. But the first day I was already upset with this the import section. The only reason I wasted as much time on iMPCPro2 as I did was trying to get my personal drum kits and samples into the program. A simple drop box function would fix this and make this program 5 stars. I don’t want to re-record a file I want the same Quality at the original file. Honestly I’m mad I wasted my money this is not for a real producer. I don’t want your sounds I want my own.
I’ve downloaded and purchased quite a few “iDaw’s”?,…? and this one, for me anyways, was and still is the most user friendly and stupid~assistive/tolerant apps I’ve come across, I’m still learning shttuff daily and not even near bored with it. That’s a super plus because generally if I can’t figure it out quick enough or it makes me feel like I should go get my geritol and take a nap, I’m deleting it Quick like. This lil beauty kept and keeps my attention and the learning curve isn’t a 90* angle, never thought I would learn as much about “music production” and diggin it all the while,…..what??!,… oh,…..medication time ms. Ratchet? OK
iMPCPro2 was A-1. By far the best. There has been an issue with the latest Apple update that causes it to not sync up with your iTunes account. For that I give it a 1 star. Other than that, this was my favorite app..
Updated : the bug seems to be fixed and I’m loving iMPC
I previously dropped a bad review for iMPCPro2….the faults mine🫢😑😑🙄. It wasnt working because I wasn’t following the directions accurately. I finally finished the iMPC-University tutorial 100% and graduated. This is a dope app. Glad I stuck with it. Its my scratch pad for beat ideas when waiting in long lines etc.; very useful tool.
So I found out how to interapp add your instrument from other apps u have to select microphone unit then switch to inner app 84 phase then it works I have been with Akai since the beginning so I have played with the beat machine a lot and learned a bunch of twerks
I gave the product 4of5 stars because the sound quality is just a bit under iMaschine.
But, it makes up for that with the product offerings that are reasonably priced. IMaschine doesn’t offer many updates sound titles so edge goes to IMPC2. The amount of tracks vs IMaschine, edge again here. Overall a very big leap from the first one. Own this market and tweak the sound above or at IMaschine. Great product well worth buying.
I really dig the ease of use.
Wanted to use this for mobile work but it is just a gimmick. So clunky and buggy. The workflow is a joke and I am an experienced mpc user. If you want something to play around with it is ok but good luck trying to use the packs they sell.
Update: joke is on me or rather i am the joke. after i got the workflow down a bit this thing is awesome for the price. Is it an mpc live? Well no but it is usable and is a fraction of the cost. Just wrote some great music with it after learning the sound assignment system.
Works great fro what it is making beats on the go instead of being stuck on the gram and I just save a project file and can open on the mpc x later and finish up👍🏽 only thing I would like to see is to be able to use the Splice app without hopping between apps and have to save to device then transfer to audio paste and then finally able to load up on the pads it gets annoying but like I said works great for what it is which is a phone app.
The leader in the industry, wow. I am sincerely impressed with the use the use ability and compatibility. So easy to use and understand.
