Great support.

I was enjoying tonestro immensely for about nine months and then it suddenly stopped working on my iPad. It continue to work fine on my iPhone. When I contacted support, they diagnosed the problem. My iPad, being a 2018 model, had an old version of iOS which I couldn’t update further. So they quickly came out with a fix. In about a week it was up and operating again on my iPad. This was great diagnosis and quick turnaround from the coders. Thanks for the support!

Great App to learn how to play, but they keep making changes

This has been a great app to use to get back into playing the Trumpet. My main complaint is that rather than just adding content, they keep bouncing back an forth between what they offer. Original they had a good song progression path. Then they suddenly removed it and put in a lesson progression. This really through me off, but it did force me to go back to basics—which is good. However, as soon as I got used to that and started enjoying it, they switched back to what they had before —throwing me off again. If they would keep both, tonestro would be amazing. If they would add content and not take stuff off, it would be amazing!

Wasting your money

The first few videos you don’t really learn anything and then the rest cost money paying five dollars a month just to learn my trombone tonestro is free you should just make tonestro not free and then make the learning free because now people are downloading it for no reason and paying money for no reason the 2/1 ones only told me about the notes not how to play them and also to learn literally anything you have to pay I mean yeah we have is fine just make tonestro cost money not the learning if you want VIP eat so you can play a couple more then yeah go ahead that’s how you make money but still people knew that it cost money right in the start they will know that everything is free in it I do not recommend👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻😡😡😡

Music App.

I love tonestro. I have been playing flute since junior high continue through high school took professional flute training at a local music school and now I’m trying to get back at it again with my flute and tonestro help me a lot and grade me in my playing and it help me to see what I need to work on the most and it’s truly helping me to prefect my playing on my flute. I recommend tonestro to any musician who want to get better on your instruments for 9.99 you can’t go wrong .

Subscription Sharing Not Supported

tonestro seems good, but some of the choices that the developer made I really frustrating. I have a household of four children. They all play instruments and I’d like to use this, but I can’t afford to pay 600 for my family. So I needed to go with another.

Please enable support for family, sharing many other subscriptions to this.

Impressive

This is a highly functional instrumental music performance evaluation app. I like how you can keep trying each song to try to improve your score. tonestro is very strict on intonation and rhythm. I would like to see improvements on the apps ability to recognize articulations. Otherwise this would be a great tool to encourage practicing among students in a music program.

Love it! ❤️

I love tonestro because it provides feedback to the musician. I use tonestro with every practice! I am so happy that I found an app than can help me learn an instrument quickly but efficiently. I started playing the French horn about 3 weeks ago. Thanks to this app, I am ready to play the French horn in band! I would recommend tonestro to any starting musician!

Homeschooling help!

This is DEAD ON to what I was looking for for my homeschooled kiddo to stay fresh with her Saxaphone . Assuming we get through the unpaid part and continue to love it we will happily do the paid version. I am recommendeding this to my homeschool groups ! Be ready for a bunch of new downloads ;)

Fake cancellation policy — beware!

tonestro itself is fairly decent. The free version gives you a tuner and some sample lessons. The paid version gives you songs to play and it tracks your tuning and timing for each note. I signed up for the free trial period but when I decided to cancel, there was no way to do that. I did contact someone from the company about it but they just told me that apple handles it. When I canceled on apple, there was no refund.

Great for my trumpet friends, but needs more variety

So I sent this link to a couple of my band friends who play trumpet, and they all love it and use it with every practice. But when this ad popped up for me I went to see if they had my instrument, and they didn’t! I play oboe, and they had everything except for any double reed instruments. Oboe, English horn, bassoon, etc.

Awful with notes

I have been playing trumpet for around a year, and I got tonestro for more practice. But, I’ve been stuck playing F————- F———— and would have to pay money in order to move up to move advanced classes. And, (my trumpet is in b flat) even when my trumpet is in tune, playing the exact note and pitch AND VOLUME, of the demonstrated note, tonestro claims the it is “too high” “or too low. “
This made my very frustrated and will make you annoyed as well. Don’t get tonestro.

A very, very good app!

What a fantastic app this is! And, the development team is super responsive to feedback and very helpful! An amazing product that I have recommended to the local community band and high school directors, thank you for your hard work!

So far loving it...

Using tonestro to get reacquainted with some instruments and have already added suggestions for some other instruments

Pandemic Band

I’m a band Director in the middle of a pandemic and this is a cool free app to share with the kids. Perhaps another tool to get the kids excited about playing again.

Not that good

I like tonestro because it shows you notes and stuff, but after the first Lesson you need a subscription to learn anything else. At least let the first 5 lessons free, then people will know what tonestro is like, other than having to pay $5 a month to do any other lesson.

I thought this would work

Ever since I got my trumpet for my birthday from my wife, I wanted to learn to play it but I could never find a trumpet teacher so I heard about tonestro no thought it might help me play my trumpet. I didn’t as it is locked behind a paywall subscription. I would rather pay money for a real teacher.

By

Doesn't work!

I have a current subscription, and every time I open tonestro , it thinks I'm a new user and asked me to upgrade to premium. I have contacted them twice on the issue and have not even received a reply. I hit the restore purchases button, and it says it cannot do that.

By

Cool app

I might actually purchase the subscription after a few more test runs.

By

Good

In the beginning it helps you control your notes and keeps you in tune

By

Presents itself as a learning app

tonestro presents itself as an app to learn how to play and I play trombone and there is a trombone lesson BUT it doesn’t even teach you all the notes and it gets you in a bad habit of seeing the letters on the notes so when your done with the lessons it throws you into the songs without any letters and not even an option to see the letters on the notes

By

Thank you, Tonestro

My biggest issue with picking up my instrument and playing again after 15 years was not knowing what to play and if it sounded right. tonestro provides a well thought out program for all levels with endless amounts of music with accompaniment. The subscription is 100% worth it and is such a great deal compared to a private lesson. I cannot thank this app enough.

Not for a beginner Trumpet

They start you out with a G on the staff, where local classes will start you out on the low C because it is much easier to hit that mark. Not to mention tonestro , used as recommended, seems to miss mark the note - a lot. I love the concept, but just a little too difficult for a beginner.

By

Okay 🙃

It’s a good app but I think it should listen to you. I’ve been playing for a while but wanted to try an app, which is how I found this. But when I was doing the tutorial it didn’t listen to me at all in the songs. Which made me kind of mad. That’s all I have.

By

Good for beginners

I just started playing today and I’ve already gotten better

By

I’m sad that it doesn’t help with reading

tonestro is amazing although mostly everything you have to pay and without paying I can’t even learn how to play my instrument again it just lets me click on songs and because I took a long break from music I forgot hot to read the notes all it does is put a sheet for me to read but I can’t tonestro needs to help with the reading notes of music because I can only understand the notes by the name not reading them

By

I LOVE THIS except for one thing

It is overall amazing it has helped me sooo much and again I really love it except I would like to have the song catalog to be free again it is amazing but I just feel like this is a glaring feature .

By

Not what I thought

I have played Trombone for 14 years, but recent years I have let it take a back seat. I thought tonestro would be good to help me get back to where I was, and I think it will be. The only problem is that it is not a good app to teach you how to play. It is a good app if you already know how to play. So I would recommend this only if you, like me, are trying to get back into the swing of things, or you are looking for supplemental material to work from in between lessons.

Update: The developer contacted me and said that they are working on learning features! So while I wait, I’ll go through the campaign with what I have and have a good time with my music!!

Thank you

Hey, love tonestro and everything about it but it would be nice if you could provide some lessons for the notes
