Was unable to complete order due to a food item being out of stock. However, Union claimed that my tab was now open. Everytime I tapped on the “my tab” button, nothing happened. Couldn’t access my tab or any menu items for that bar anymore. Tried restarting Union , restarting my phone, logging out, anything. This is a severe glitch and it’s ridiculous that an app designed to help businesses would be so short-sighted on their implementation and quality assurance. I will not recommend this to anyone.
Union allows businesses to add a minimum tip to your bill even if you close out your tab. I bought a topo Chico (the only drink I ordered, $3.50) from a bar, gave the guy a dollar as a tip and then was charged an additional $2 through Union . I didn't authorize this tip, nor was it stated what the minimum tip is for a tab. Each bar should have to disclose what their minimum tip is before you pay, especially since it's not a walked tab. I'm glad this was only for a small bill, I couldn't imagine how much it would be had I gotten a couple of rounds. I'm deleting Union immediately and never using it again. There's so many bars in Austin, I don't need to patronize the ones that use this manipulative service. This happened at Bungalow on Rainey.
I visited a restaurant that uses this app for its order entry and payment systems. After spending a few minutes entering my order and payment information, I tapped the “Submit” button, but was presented with a screen that forced me to create an account. I didn’t want to create an account. I wanted to order a meal. If you’re going to force people to create an account, disclose that up front.
I used an iPad, but Union used a small portion of its display. Looks like Union was written for only iPhone-sized displays. C’mon guys. It’s 2022. Support large computer displays.
Forced to use Union since with Covid it is the only way to order at the restaurant we dined at. So many difficulties that I wouldn’t know where to start. During one meal, multiple manual interventions were needed by management. Others were also having problems and the wait staff mentioned they were often in contact with Union owner over functionality.
Ok, bottom line is that I love the way this works but I have grievances.
The good: I love being able
To order anything I want any time I want without having to flag anyone down. It’s incredible.
The bad: this fundamentally changes the service industry. No one checks up on you to ask how everything is. Substitutions happen without asking. There is no single point of contact during a dining experience and multiple runners bring food to you. This should mean that staffing is reduced and everyone can have a larger percentage of the tip pool (assuming that it’s pooled tips). Close your tab though and it defaults to 25% tip? For who? I didn’t actually have anyone servicing me. This should both reduce costs and increase profit share but somehow I feel that unchecked capitalism has made the opposite of both happen.
Surprising that the tip options are 20, 25, and 30%. Is 20 now considered low and cheap? My favorite bar is my family room, so this may decrease any incentive to eat and drink out.
It appears to read your owner contact for phone number for verification - but mine was my old land-line.
It took lots of flailing and cursing to realize you can touch the number to edit it, because there’s not indication it’s live, configurable UI, and not just a notice.
Add “touch to change phone number” and it’d be far more useful.
I wish I could invest in this company. It is the only way to run a restaurant. I just wish every restaurant was on board with ordering through tabbed out.

So convenient! Great for splitting the bill! This guy was not into the girl he was with but was able to leave when she went to the bathroom because of Union. Helping people one by one.
Discovered this gem and holy cowabunga! The food was AMAZING - fresh, flavorful, large portions for the price, great waitstaff. We had Allison and she was attentive, helpful, knowledgeable. Full bar with GREAT cocktails. Used to be Marie Callendar’s on Research. Easy to miss, but worth turning around and coming back!
I was able to order what I want when I want and the order came right over. I love this. Makes it so much easier, especially when it’s busy.
Union is brilliant! I wish every restaurant/bar used it! The menu is all online, easy to order/reorder and items show up very quickly. It was a breeze to check out. It’s just easy and awesome!
Great app but I only use it when I travel because even though I live in the 22nd largest city in the US, there are no venues that use it here. I've emailed them in the past about opportunities but nothing ever came of it. Hopefully they will grow here and I'll redownload.
Love Union! Makes ordering and closing out so much easier and more efficient. No more having to wait for servers on a busy night and can close my tab while getting into my Uber. Will always lean toward going to a bar using TabbedOut.
Can’t believe the ease of use, and functionality of Union! Going out with friends has been the same for the last few decades… until now. Truly feels like the next big step in the evolution of the bar/restaurant experience!

I’m not sure if I will keep Union or not. It does what is advertised, but gives you no options on the receipt. The receipt is sent to your e-mail. I would prefer to get a printed receipt, or no receipt at all.
