ATN Obsidian 4 Reviews

The only feature I was able to use on ATNObsidian4 was to change the brightness of the scope. The scope view on phone was sporadic at best, and would freeze. Other features would lock scope up and would then need to reboot scope. I have the latest firmware version. Email and phone calls to ATN as of 4 - 2 days have gone unanswered. Related - As for the scope, first set of mount rings stripped under low torque. Recoil activated video does not work. Ranging is not very accurate. Thor 4 4.5x18 sight picture is awesome and it has held zero so far, tennis ball accuracy on ar at 200 yrds.

The scope is awesome, but ATNObsidian4 is useless. The only feature it provides is the ability to change the name of your profiles. First of all, there is absolutely no reason why ATN wont allow you edit the profile name with the scope itself, but ATN, decided to only allow profile name edits with ATNObsidian4. The issue is, ATNObsidian4 causes the scope to crash. Everything else ATNObsidian4 does, you can do in the scope. For future updates, ATN should 1) fix the issue causing the scope to crash when connected and while attempting to edit profile names. 2) ATNObsidian4 is on a smartphone, why do you have to manually enter weather info? Please just have ATNObsidian4 access the users location and download the current weather from the national weather service!!! Useless!!!!!

Writing this review in November 2024, ATNObsidian4 was supposedly updated just two months ago to a new user interface and connectivity. I cannot get ATNObsidian4 to connect to my scope, despite trying numerous times. Looking online, everyone has the same problem. I called the company and there’s no one to talk to. Garbage support. Absolutely do not buy this product if you would like to connect it to your phone.

I’m extremely disappointed, both the Thor4 and X-Sight preformed horribly hunting Hog this week in Texas. Video didn’t record from both manual and during shots fired. X-Sight distance was only about 80 yards in the Night Vision setting and that’s with the IR Illuminator and a full moon, the Thor4 didn’t recognize the heat signatures until 300 yards, NOT 1,000 meters as advertised. The ballistic laser would not stay paired with either scope and they DO NOT stay zeroed which causes a lot of issues. ATNObsidian4 wouldn’t display the scope screen and when it did it was pixilated and had poor lag. $6,000+ investment wasted. Buyer beware. A friend had another ATN thermal and had problems all week as well. ATN lost me as a customer for ever!

I think the scope is much better than my old thermal, however ATNObsidian4 is useless. Spent several hours zeroing the scope, watching videos on how to but no one said the ballistic calculator had to be off when zero’ing. Must read the very fine print...
After naming profiles and updating scope height the whole scope locked up, froze and forced a reset. I lost all my setups for different ranges and loads. Very disappointed in ATNObsidian4 , the price point for the scope you would expect better. Planning a hunt this weekend to see if my settings hold true, one shot zero is a little misleading it takes a lot more than on shot.

After hoping for several months that ATN would fix the problem I guess I will just have to quit using ATNObsidian4. The scope is a decent scope for what it is but ATNObsidian4 is worthless. Every time I connect to my scope and try to use ATNObsidian4 to change settings like the reticle or profiles it freezes up the scope. I was hoping that the new firmware update that I just loaded into the scope would fix this but it didn’t. All updating the scope accomplished was to totally erase the profile that I had dialed in perfectly. Now I have to go blow off even more ammo to get the settings back to perfect.

After reading a five year old review about ATNObsidian4, I can confirm that it still drops WiFi and freezes. Makes using ATNObsidian4 to change any settings on the scope very sketch. Contacted support by phone and by email. Not sure who I had in the phone a few weeks ago, but still waiting on that call back. Email goes to Kelly Mullin and she has an automatic reply “out of office” set up. That’s real nice. Hope nothing goes wrong with the ATN scope, I can see what I’m in for. There needs to be a zero stars option.

Will never find my Thor4 even though the wife is on and my phone is connected to the WiFi. Repeatedly says no ATN products found. No instructions whatsoever. It’s unclear if you’re supposed to connect to the wife first through settings (which you are). At least the old app had a button that takes you to the settings screen to make it clear.

If a dev spent more than a single day on this, ATN got ripped off. Either way, this is currently non-functional in the latest iOS. Par for the course with ATN.

Spent two days trying to get firmware on to a SD card. Have spent the best part of today trying to get ATNObsidian4 to find my scope. God forbid you expect someone to help. Have waited two days for an email response and 1/2 hour on the phone waiting as well. Good thing I have nothing else to do but fight with this thing and hope it works. Good thing I have bothered wasting the effort putting it on a rifle, probably would just be removing it to get it to work properly. Thanks ATN for your product and lack of service!!!

I concur with lkylemoore, have had my 4k pro for a week and have yet to get ATNObsidian4 to work with the profiles tab. Both ATNObsidian4 and scope lock up and I have to do a hard reset to get things moving again. Just deleted ATNObsidian4 , hardstarted the phone and reinstalled ATNObsidian4 . If this doesn't work, I'm out of options until ATNObsidian4 is updated. BTW, before someone comments, the firmware was up to date with the latest version from the factory when I received it.

ATNObsidian4 would do everything I wanted it to do and then some...when it would work. A majority of the time ATNObsidian4 won’t connect to my 4K pro day/night scope and glitches out and crashes. It was ok at best but now it’s trash. ATN makes neat products but needs to improve their apps

So far the optic and app have both disappointed. Optic was mounted to a firearm with the INCLUDED rings. Rifle fell off of vehicle seat to the floorboard(less than a foot) and the optic broke in half. It didn’t break the glass or crack it, it broke the tube COMPLETELY IN HALF. For the money you pay for this optic it should be made with better materials and not pop metal. Sent the optic back only to be told once it reached the technicians that it wouldn’t be seen by them to diagnose for 15-30 days. Then who knows when I get it back. Guess hunting this season is out.....

First, I can't currently connect to the scope. I have the scope wifi on and connected to the wifi on my iPhone 11, but it refuses to connect.

In the past when I was able to connect, the scope would crash whenever I edited load data on ATNObsidian4 . It's the only way to change a load name, and I've lost a lot of time trying to get it to work without crashing the scope.

I’ve been using ATN optics for over 15 years and have gone through the many growing pains of ATN with their Xsight and Thor products. ATNObsidian4 is useful after you manage to get it to connect via WiFi to your phone. For some reason it never connects the 1st few times, but always manages to connect after several attempts. It doesn’t have the greatest layout, but does make configuring an ATN THOR 4 or Xsight 4K easier than from the optic itself. There is 2 seconds of lag during live view from my Thor 4 / iPhone 8 Plus which is very disappointing as this is nearly useless for hog hunting. I appreciate ATN trying to provide cutting edge features to their customers, but this has given them a reputation of releasing beta quality products and software that can be frustrating to use when they don’t work as advertised.

I love my ATN Thor 4, and the idea of ATNObsidian4. It works pretty well once it gets paired up with the scope, but it takes way too long for that to happen. I do not know if it is ATNObsidian4 , or the need for updating in the firmware, but for a $2000 purchase this is definitely a weak point. It appears there have been no app updates in almost 6 months so perhaps thats at least part of the issue.

Like the title says, ATNObsidian4 has some major flaws however it is still useful, I’m able to set profiles, but the apply button doesn’t seem to do anything. When streaming videos works great fast upload and no buffering, however every time I try and download it tells me to set permission to allow access to photos which is already been done, then after the download starts ATNObsidian4 completely crashes every time. If the smart people over at ATN could iron out a few of the bugs ATNObsidian4 would be superb connectivity issues are a little spotty at times as well. Great idea just needs a little tlc.

ATNObsidian4 works well with live streaming, however, there is no way to watch the video that you recorded. There’s nowhere to click in ATNObsidian4 to watch the playback and I have to take out the SD card to watch the videos. Please fix.

When abroad in any terrain, I have found ATNObsidian4 the best at calibrating scopes. On burner phones or even my actual phone, ATNObsidian4 performs great.

Most levels of education understand how to use ATNObsidian4 . I showed village after village on every continent how to calibrate their scopes to high degrees of accuracy.

Never used it and don’t have applicable optics, but I detest what our fine “government” is trying to pull. How about actually enforcing existing laws against actual criminals?

I have friends that are cops in STL and DC— both have the same story— being on parole while committing felonies generally just gets you more probation. Both say they virtually never arrest someone who hasn’t been arrested before. How about working on that list?

I also had the same problem. Figured out how to work around - performed an “Apply” after each line change and never had a “freeze” again.
