Volvo Penta Easy Connect Reviews

VolvoPentaEasyConnect is pure garbage. Constantly crashes, won’t connect. Completely buggy. Just doesn’t work. It’s a total scam. I’ve spent countless hours trying to get the modules to connect. Sometimes it looks like it is working, but doesn’t. When it does, VolvoPentaEasyConnect doesn’t stay on more than a few seconds. I want to sue Volvo for fraud. Anyone else?

Was excited to get this, but then Very disappointed that it will not pair with my IPhone 7+ or my new iPad mini. This is something that should be very easy to do correctly for Any company. I really expected more from Volvo-Penta.

And best of all - log back in? Reconnect, reset up your boat. Hope you don’t have to crawl into the engine bay to get the code.

This used to work fine but now you can’t enter the blue tooth code…. Fix this, it’s worthless if you can’t connect.

VolvoPentaEasyConnect won’t connect either on my Android or iPad. I have two 2022 Volvo D4’s. It would be nice if Volvo would invest a little time in this technology and get it corrected.

I’ve lost over $600 to get nothing more then a glorified hour meter. I purchased the gateway and additional cable that is required for the install. I have a 2006 5.0 GXI-F and initial install gave diagnostic codes which had no breakdown of what they were tried multiple dealers and limited machinery views. Went back and forth with Volvo for over two weeks tech support returns one email a day no phone contact. I’m told I have a Gen 1 gateway and need the Gen 2. Go through warranty get the Gen 2 at and have to pay an additional $200+ dollars. Going on three months trying to figure this out with no option of a refund after the first two week purchase period. I was told I don’t have the right ecu but I have 90 pin and was argued I have a mefi sent pictures and complete wiring schematic to be told oh I was right and it should work. Finally after months of emails I’m told by the same person that said I need the Gen 2 gateway they only support the software. The more I have dug into this I see they taken money from multiple people the same way. Tried different apple products and even android which wouldn’t connect at all. Hope this saves at least one person the frustration I’ve went through and the money I’ve lost.

A bug in the software does not allow to enter the pairing code. The respective menu opens for half a second and it doesn’t accept any entry. This needs to be solved ASAP.

I installed the BTGW to my twin D6-370 EVC-C installation yesterday and faced the same issues as others to try to connect. I scoured all my old phones for a device that could pair and load the software for the update to no avail.

I decided to try to connect my Windows 10 laptop to the BTGW and lo and behold it showed up in my list of discoverable devices. As soon as I started VolvoPentaEasyConnect on my iPad it showed up, I entered the Bluetooth PIN and everything started working. My guess is that somehow the Windows discovery step changed the device internal state to allow the IOS12 pairing to proceed. BTW, one VolvoPentaEasyConnect made the connection it did a update the firmware on the device and I’ve had no problem connecting since.

I ended up re-wiring my NMEA2000 bus while I had the helm open and now all my devices are talking. The new BTGW fully replaced the original NMEA2000 Gateway with the same form factor and cabling, so it was really a drop in upgrade. I now have data for the engines and all the NMEA devices appearing in VolvoPentaEasyConnect , very nice!

Sea trials next to get a real feel for how to use these capabilities, but I like the promise this brings and the opportunity for more innovation with the wireless connectivity to the boa data.
