Heart is in the right place but needs work

The idea of automatically tracking ascents is great, and is why I gave this a try, but it works very poorly. In one session it tracked 70+ ascents, and even though I was purposely pausing the tracking while belaying it kept tracking on ascents every few minutes at random. Considering the watch knows when you’re going up and when you’re coming down it shouldn’t be too hard not to add ascents when not moving vertically… and for a climbing specific app it should take into account that at least half the time you’ll be belaying (or resting between attempts if bouldering). It is not clear whether this is accounted for in the final calories/workout tracking.

I’ll be looking forward to future versions but right now it shows more promise than ability.

A nice basic app but needs some UI work

Logs climbs (on ropes) accurately enough. Nice integration with the Apple Watch. Unfortunately, Redpoint interface is a little wonky. Data isn’t displayed on remotely useful axes, there’s no easy way to delete individual climbs from sessions or manually alter the “type” of climb if you forgot to switch from top rope to lead, etc. Generally useful and insightful to use, but without solid data visualization, it isn’t worth paying for premium. Please tighten up the data vis and user interface for editing climbs and climbing types, combining sessions, and add more insight in the data to make it worth logging the type of climb, ie onsight, flash, red point. Breaking out data by type of climb like top rope, sport, or bouldering needs to be better integrated as well.

So far I really like this app

This might be user error, so I apologize if so.

I got really confused on tracking my bouldering today. I have had Redpoint for a little while but actually remembered to utilize it today. I used it in such a way that now I realize was probably wrong. I’d find a route press start bouldering slide over to select the grade and begin my ascent. Once I would either succeed or fail I’d end the session and start again on the next one, I’m guessing I actually need to be pausing in between ascents but in that case can I switch grades when I switch routes?

I love keeping track of my ascents, but I worry some of them weren’t accurate like it saying I got 9ft when I’d barely get past the start of a problem. I also think that either I barely paid attention to the beginning of Redpoint instructions/tutorial or it could have been clearer. (Again could have just been user error.)

All in all I do feel like as I get used to using Redpoint and how to properly use it I’ll enjoy it more. I also realized it needed to be updated so I’m hoping when I go again on Wednesday it’s more accurate since I just updated it.

This app is a great starting point but not perfect

My two biggest gripes with Redpoint are that you can’t delete a session if you accidentally start one by accident. Secondly when using Redpoint on the Apple Watch your climbing grade is stuck with which ever discipline you start your session with. (Start bouldering then switch to top rope and you can only log routes under V scale not YDS).

If they fixed this it would be a 5star app

Great app but some problems behind the paywall

A lot of great functions here and would be happy to give 5 starts if not for the following issues

- app crashes when hiding an ascent (would be nice to just delete them)
- not able to track projects. You can log each attempt and send with great tags (though no on-site tag) but would be nice to be able to track them in projects for example ( 2 attempts and 1 send on a particular V4)
- visual layout of data would be great to see in bar graphs but that’s more nitpicky than anything.

Fantastic for logging, moderate data visualization and poor data export.

I have had Redpoint since October 2019, I really started using it more since August this year.

Pros:
SUPER Easy logging, Fantastic Apple Watch integration. I can easily climb a Boulder in the gym and note the grade and it automatically saves altitude, heart rate, calories and time.

Training section seems helpful and has good suggestions/ Tipps about rest and getting better.

However, it’s not as good as Ascend for logging progression or how many hard climbs you send time. (Or names of routes) It does show how many of each grade you attempt but doesn’t differentiate sends and falls.

Cons:
Hard to export data, leaderboard feature broken/ displays nothing, long term activity seems slow to update.

Needs Updates

It is a functional app but has issues. The one that affects me the most is switching between top rope/sport climbing to bouldering. Redpoint will register I changed the type of climb but will retain the rating system from the first choice ie if I start bouldering, then switch to top rope, top rope attempts would be logged with the V system. I don’t have any faith that doing it that way would track correctly, so this requires ending a session and starting a new one every time I switch. Outdoors this isn’t an issue at all but at my favorite gym I have bouldering, top rope and lead available and friends who do a little bit of each so it’s very common for me to do all 3 in a session. Please fix I want to keep supporting Redpoint but would like to see an update!

Almost what I was looking for!

Update:
Going to 4 starts for now. App has a bug when switching between type of climbing. Stats shows like all the climbs are made with the first selected climbing type (sport) when I switched in session to top rope. Reported to developers a week ago - no response

Another issue. After installing Redpoint , after you stop the session - app will still drain the battery on the apple watch :(

Great app, seems like it has everything I was looking for. The only complain, is to be able to switch between the lead and top rope, as I am beginner, doing a few leads, and switch to top rope to learn how to climb more advanced routes for me. I saw that developer claimed that they are working on that already! Which is awesome!
Anyway, will give it a try, and definitely will be a pro supporter!

Great app, but has a couple of bugs

Tracking climbs in Redpoint is super simple and the integration on the Apple Watch with health kit is awesome. Those points alone were enough for me to go in on the subscription. My only issue so far is that my height ascended data appears correctly on my Apple Watch, but on the phone it seems bugged pretty badly. Hopefully they’re aware and are able to get it fixed.

Fantastic App

One thing that would be really cool would be something social built in like Strava (before Strava does it).

My only gripe is the climber on the analytic Dashboard when you share to something like IG. I think the dashboard as a whole could use some rework to make it look more modern.

Look at examples from Tableau software or Salesforce Analytics. The colors on the current dashboard are generic rbg and too harsh on a black background.

Love this but needs some work

Love this app, I use is every session. There are some reliability issues though. Today in particular both my climbing partner and I attempted to use the “switch disciplines” feature from ropes to bouldering but the grades available for us to select did not change from YDS to Hueco. Overall though it’s a great app that does what it says on the tin.

Love this app!

This is a great app to capture all of your climbing data! It’s easy to use and provides you with great feedback. My only complaint is that you can’t switch between types of climbing during your session. For example, I top rope and lead climb in the same session, but have to finish a session and start a new one in order to capture the other climbs. It’d be great if I could include them all in the same session. Otherwise...a great app!! Thanks for creating it!

Great app, looking forward more improvements

Great app and fun for tracking. Some
Improvements i would like to see Its pretty bad at tracking ascended distance telling me the ascent was only 3 feet. Or 10ft. For a top rope or sport. Also when i switch disciplines to bouldering it does not Give me the correct grades but still in 5.10. I have to end the work out and start a bouldering session in order to have the correct v scale grading.
Exciting to see this develop more.

Really nice, small issues

I really like it for tracking my climbs over time and really see my improvement. However, the long term activity has a lot of issues where the charts get cut off and I can’t do anything about it. Especially an issue when the part that is cut off is the highest grades I climb! Makes it tricky to see if I’m improving

LOVE THIS APP

Thank you for addressing that bug so quickly for the altitude!!! I have a Vertix 2 I use for running and tried the climbing app on there in the meantime, since there's really nothing else in Redpoint Store that compares to this for distance measurement, and it still didn't log and work as easily and clearly as your app does. Thanks for the work you've put into this!

Great app, fun to see progress

I love using Redpoint to keep track of my sends and how I’m improving. The watch app is great and allows me to climb without having my phone.

Other users have requested a multi discipline climbing session, and I would also love that.

The only other thing that’s missing that I would love is a complication, even if it’s just a shortcut to Redpoint , for the infographic faces on the series 4 Apple Watch.

Great Climbing App!

I've been using this app for about a month now and I'm quite impressed! Tracks routes pretty accurately (with the occasional error) and does so automatically with no need to touch the watch unless you're inputting grade. Redpoint also uses the Action button on the ultra, something I wish more apps would do.

Great Climbing Tracker and Responsive Developer!

I started using Redpoint to track my bouldering sessions in late 2018. Since that time, I’ve submitted several bug reports and feature requests and all have been acknowledged and integrated into Redpoint .

I enjoy Redpoint as well as the Apple Watch integration that allows me to mark the rating and success or failure of each ascent without having to mess with my phone while climbing.

Keep up the great work!

Truly The Best Climbing App

This is one of the best fitness tracking apps I’ve ever used across any discipline. The on-device data analysis and care that the developer has put into data privacy is amazing; I wish it was the standard everywhere.

For some reason I’m having trouble following the in app link to add my local climbing gym (possibly because I don’t have the iOS Mail app installed?). Would love to add it if it’s a possibility. Still an excellent experience either way.

Will there be an update for long term activity tracking?

Love Redpoint! It’s great for keeping me motivated and able to see progress over time. The height and time climbing is great to be able to see and motivates me to get a few extra routs in to push myself.
When will there be an update though? The long term tracking doesn’t change when you shift the tab between “overall - last year- last month”
Besides that it’s great, highly recommend 👌🏼
