Useless: unable to create an account
2022-05-29
by MomPolo
Bought 4 bulbs. Needed to create an account, so did so through SengledHome by using the “Create an account” link in SengledHome , filling in my email address and waiting for a verification email to create a login. Email never arrived after multiple tries; I checked spam, trash, and every other folder, a ne nada, it just doesn’t show up. So I’m unable to create an account using SengledHome . Went to their website instead. There I’m able to create an account and log in to their website, but only after multiple warnings telling me I needed to allow cookies, even though cookies are already enabled. Unfortunately, there appears to be a complete disconnect between the website and SengledHome . Using the same email and PW in SengledHome that I use on the website throws an error message: “Account does not exist.” I’ve tried for the better part of an hour to make this happen, logging in, logging out, restarting my phone, trying on my iPad, going through the Sengled app, going through my SmartThings app, all with the same result. API is hosed. With no way to create an account in SengledHome , and SengledHome not recognizing the login created on the website, there’s no way to set these bulbs up. I can’t believe the incompetence of a company that trips you up on something as simple as creating an account. Sending the bulbs back, deleting SengledHome , and I’ll never buy from Sengled again. Horrible experience.
Just stopped working

by Mr Bummed
I have 5 bulbs (2 wifi enabled, 3 use a hub) and all of a sudden they all just stopped working today. They went “unresponsive”. I reset everything and now the Sengled app keeps telling me that my phone is not connected to the internet; AND if I try to override this and go directly to “add” a bulb, my Wi-Fi bulbs will go all the way through the process of set up and then not connect to my home Wi-Fi network. The hub will not connect to my network even though it’s a wired connection. My Wi-Fi is fine and ALL of my other Wi-Fi devices are working fine; it’s not a router or home network issue. RIDICULOUS and I will never buy another Sengled bulb; switching to another smart system.
Never Connects To Device, or Wi-Fi

by Jwhite-71
I’ve installed SengledHome several times over the past couple of years hoping with any updates it would correct the issue of never connecting to device, or displaying the dumb sengled Wi-Fi connection thing in my list of wi if connections. You would think after this long, this many complaints, they would have finally figured it out. On the other hand, Alexa eventually connects to it through the Alexa app, though often loses connection, having to reset it on occasion. Not impressed, not worth the headache, use the Alexa app instead.
App needs work

Compared with any other smart home/light app, this is years behind where it should be. I shouldn’t have to repair the devices to the hub after a reboot. Slot of SengledHome is not user friendly to a non tech user. Average person struggles with SengledHome .
Recently the hub/app stopped working with google home and alexa devices in house. What was the suggestion from company? Delete hub, all devices and re add. Say what? I have to remove 10+ devices and a hub… and wonder thru house to re pair them to the hub? Re set up everything in my routine for Alexa and google???????
I bought 6 of these lights… They are Absolutely a waste of money!!! Worked fine for a couple months now all of a sudden, Alexa can’t discover my lights. She says they are “unresponsive”!!!! So I tried turning my lights off & on 5 times like it says on their website. Nope, still unresponsive. Try to turn my lights on & off using their app… Nope, they can’t even be controlled by their own app!!! So I tried to delete the lights from their app, to reinstall them & it wouldn’t even let me delete them. Finally after multiple tries, got them to delete. Reinstalled the lights & still doesn’t work. Their app installed them but kept giving me connection “failed” when trying to turn them on & off !!! So I delete the account to try to make a new account & says “operation failed” tried multiple times & nothing… It doesn’t even let you make a new account because of an “operational failure” !!! Worthless!! Absolutely Worthless!! Been trying for 2 days to fix the problem to NO avail !!! These are JUNK !!! I wish Alexa made her own lights. I will use Phillips from now on!! 😡😡😡
Absolutely the most frustrating “smart system”, garbage.

SengledHome/hardware just gets worse and worse. First at any little flicker of power loss, I would have to reset the hub several times and SengledHome “might” recall some device if I was lucky. Then two of my lights decided to remain on a schedule I turned off, useless app. Now, nothing works. Resetting does nothing, SengledHome still thinks everything is fine. I deleted it completely and tried to reinstall and not only won’t it recognize my account but it won’t let me create another and start fresh. So I have six expensive and useless “smart bulbs” thanks to Sengled. Crap.
Disappointing and getting worse

After multiple losses of service back in November 2021, these bulbs remain a huge disappointment. First, shutting off a wall switch, as people may be inclined to do, even briefly, causes a frequent loss of connection to one’s app, requiring complete re-pairing (scanning in the bulb, etc). Second, the color selection feature lacks the many easy presets of competitors, such as Philips Hue. Third, customer service has NOT responded to my multiple messages, attempting to troubleshoot, which ultimately would have prevented this review. For easier to use bulbs, the Philips Hue have been more reliable for me and have cool presets.
App is terrible

I came looking for an update because SengledHome does not work right now. My HomeKit app actually works better than this Sengled app. It works about 75% of the time, but never on the first try. I have to turn light on/off several times or switch between scenes to make them become responsive. I have 6 zigbee bulbs, 6 more on the way, and one hub. All my bulbs are in close proximity to my hubs. I brought a wifi access point to plug the hub into just to ensure this wasn’t a problem. SengledHome responds like it’s doing something but the lights do not respond. This happens ALL THE TIME and is extremely frustrating.
Absolutely the worst app in the universe

Here they are 500 bad reviews in SengledHome Store later and it looks like they can’t take a hint. Absolutely furious I just spent $30 on four light bulbs that won’t connect to their defective app. I’ve tried every trouble shoot I could possibly research and at this point I don’t even understand how they’re still selling a product that’s this defective for this many people. They’re first suggestion on their support page is that I make sure im actually using the light bulb the sent to me. Because im the idiot right? I only give one star and my hats off to you for making it this far selling a product meant for convenience that literally creates the opposite with bad reviews going back YEARS.
I purchased several Sengled bulbs last month. They were working mostly fine. But in the last week, they have completely stopped working and are impossible to troubleshoot. I have done virtually everything to fix this via the Sengled app, Alexa app, changing WiFi settings, making sure all is updated, etc. but nothing.
I also tried contacted Sengled customer service during their business hours, yet received an auto message stating they were closed followed by the repeating of the apparently wrong business hours… I called at 6 pm CT, with business hours until 8 pm.
Now, all of my Sengled bulbs are the default color and brightness with absolutely zero ability to change. There is nothing smart about them.
Random Bulb Actions, No Easy Fix Via App

First, in general, all Smart Bulbs (including the leading brand) are great when they work, but over time, after app updates, firmware updates, or power outage issues, you will spend far more time configuring bulbs and scenes, than you'll ever spend getting up and down and turning lights on and off the old fashioned way. Yeah, the colors are cool, but not worth the hassle in the long run. Now, as for SengledHome: There is no way to simply "rediscover and assign" unresponsive bulbs. Even doing a reset to find and pair them often falsely states that there's no internet connection, or your router password is wrong. Even if my internet access was down (which it wasn't), what business does the bulb have connecting out there in the ether? As long as my home network in working, this should work. Bottom line: Another of many apps that makes it's corresponding hardware product totally frustrating and worthless. My bulbs are now in the trash bin. Ahh, the joy of just flicking a switch and seeing light! SengledHome is horrendous.
Worst app I’ve ever used lol

by Alexbrooks300
Bought 4 smart light bulbs to use with my echo dot. Was disappointed to find out I had to use sengled’s app and not the echo app directly but maybe that’s on me for not doing research.
Then I have to sign up with an email with a verification link but the email opens up a webpage that says “service temporarily unavailable”. I spam refresh 20 times and finally it says my account is verified, awesome, great only 30 minutes in but we’re almost done.
So I click back on SengledHome like it tells me to do and I get a “your phone has disconnected from the internet, please try again” while being connected to fiber wifi the entire time. So I have to spam the “try again” button in SengledHome 20-30 more times and it finally brings me to the page to select a password. I type my password in, click “create account” and get yet ANOTHER error message saying the operation failed. So I click create account 100 more times, same message.
Then I just close SengledHome to try again and I have to do all of the above ENTIRELY over again and still won’t let me create my account. I’m 1 hour into this process and have made absolutely no progress and will probably end up having to send the bulbs back. Fix your app, fix your website, fix your lightbulbs.
Seek out a better product

I have a “smart” bulb and along with SengledHome it has been nothing short of a rip-off. If it even worked half of the time it might deserve one more star. Attempts to reset the bulbs have been futile, when one does and connects to the Alexa app it continues in its tradition of working maybe 5% of the time. Even with firmware updates trying to get this to work as a smart device, you’d have better luck with another smart bulb.
If you see this or any other review before purchasing, go with another product. If you’ve purchased already, do what you can to get your money back, if that’s not an option, find the nearest trash receptacle and deposit it there, because you’ll get as much use out of it there than if you try using it.
Works Until it Doesn’t, Then You Better Hope You Can Bring All Your Lights Back Online

Several times a year the smart bulbs lose their connection, and I have to go into the Sengled App to manually reset them. That wouldn’t be so bad if that actually remedied the problem consistently, but it doesn’t. I have two bulbs now that refuse to be recognized in pairing mode. I remember SengledHome once had a QR feature that worked brilliantly for pairing, cut out the need for WiFi searching, but no, that’s gone. Perhaps if resetting the bulbs in the first place was smoother (they tell you to delete the whole bulb and pair it again entirely), then I wouldn’t even need to delete the bulbs in the first place, because now it seems they’re never coming back online. I’ve about had it with this brand, thinking of switching to Phillips or something.
I’ve had the bulbs with a hub for about 2 years. They’ve worked perfectly up until about 3/4 months ago. Since then there’s been nothing but issues. It’s forever got an error connecting. I’ve reset the system, deleted my hub and tried reconnecting. For the last month we’ve only been able to use them like a regular bulb. There’s no way to fix it, it might work for one evening then the next morning it’s out again for a few days. We’re looking at buying a new set up now as it’s terrible and there’s never a fix for it. And when I look online for a fix, my wifi connection gets blamed but nothing else is having problems. My other bulb brand and smart apps have no problems. Just this one.
Not a fan of forced updates.

I set my lights to a routine each night, and they turn off at a certain time, however sometimes I’m still awake so I turn them back on manually. However, because of SengledHome forcing you to update, instead of being able to access and use my lights, I have to be forced to update to use my lights. That is not user friendly, and I should not be forced to update my app just to turn my lights on.
Works mostly, but malfunctions a lot
2023-10-15
by Ninski Rick
Every few weeks or so, one or all of my lights become unreachable to my internet, and I can’t turn them on or off unless I use my light switches. I also can’t turn them to different colors. It becomes a pain to take a half hour or more to get them working properly again. And a problem just arose from SengledHome that it’s saying I’m not connected to the internet as soon as I launch SengledHome (even though I am) and I can’t go in and try to manually fix my lighting issue. It’s really frustrating and I almost left a one star.

The firmware trouble has been corrected and product is now restored to normal. Apologize for previous bad review but I sent numerous emails and call the help phone # and put on hold for more than 30 minutes. Anyway, problem has been resolved I enjoy the convenience of this product just make sure when updating firmware it works without questions. Thanks for resolving the problem. Mitch Buter

I had SengledHome for a few years now, couple days again SengledHome went down. Didn’t know it went down for everyone. So naturally I got upset. Once I found out the server went down and that they were working on it. I decided to wait a while until they fixed it. Being that I wouldn’t be home for a while anyway. Woke up today and SengledHome started to work and my lights responded to my voice again. Thanks for the speedy fix.
I didn’t think I’d love these lightbulbs as much as I do but I just purchased more for other rooms. I can control with my echos and Sengled app! SengledHome allows me to turn on the lights as I’m approaching my door. I am able to create light groups by room or individual bulbs. Love changing the colors to fit my mood and even by individual bulb. I’m pretty dumb when it comes to technology and I wasn’t even sober when I set it up. Sooooo, basically anyone can do it. App works great on my iPhone 12 mini.
Don’t bother

by Say Wha...
I don’t normally write reviews but this product was just so problematic from the start I was compelled. Set up wasn’t rocket science but was more difficult than necessary, still unsure what the hub is for and why it needs to be connected to the company’s servers. One day one it was offline as well as my bulbs...on day one. None of the schedules work. I set the sleep schedule and the light went out out...5 seconds later they are back on again, in the end I have to use Alexa or the wall switch to turn them off. Only wanted a schedule on weekdays and Saturday morning lights come on, on a day with no schedule. So after this review is sent going to Costco to get Feit bulbs that are cheaper, change colors, easier to install, don’t require a hub, and adhere to the schedule you set, oh and they work with Alexa and Google home. Light bulbs should not take this much energy to make them work.
HATE THE LOADING SCREEN WHEN U OPEN THE APP
2024-11-17
by Kenzi G
I have no complaints other then how long SengledHome takes to load... the little animation of the lightbulb, a thing that looks like a badge, then almost a remote or iPod..... where it rotates back and forth of those animations.... like I’ll be coming home for the day or leaving for the day... and I have two lightbulbs and two strips set up.... and with how long it takes for me to open SengledHome , wait for the animation to pass for me to only THEN FINALLY get to the button to turn them all off or on? Like it would be quicker to turn all 4 sets of lights off/on.... so it’s like what’s the point of SengledHome besides changing the color or brightness? When it should also be for “ease of use”.
Setting wake up schedule is atrocious
2024-11-17
by SoapyBacchus
In the previous Sengled app I had no issues setting a wake up schedule and having my lights fade in when I wanted them to. Now in the new app I set a schedule and upon saving the first time it is always immediately deleted. I then have to reset the schedule a second time and even then it only works part of the time. Additionally, the new coding for fading in makes the light turn on once at the beginning of the fade in cycle and once at the end of the fade in cycle. So say I set my fade in to occur over 10 minutes. If I am woken up by my lights at the beginning of the 10 min cycle and I decide I want to go back to sleep and turn off my light, the light will turn back on at the end of the 10 minute cycle and wake me back up. HOW STUPID. This never happened in the old app. Fade in lights for waking up is the only reason I bought these bulbs and I could not, absolutely could not, recommend these to someone anymore. I guess this is what I get for trying to save money and not buy Philips. Lesson learned.
Has an ad you can’t skip when the app starts
2024-11-17
by BlahblahAMYblah
With the latest update, there is now a 5 second advertisement for a sale of the Sengled bulbs when SengledHome opens. I just wanted to change the lights from off to on. Why in the world is there no skip button until after the 5 seconds is up? I would uninstall but unfortunately I need SengledHome to control my lights so I am stuck until they fix it. SengledHome is slow normally anyway. I’ll change the slider from 100% to 10% and the light usually changes automatically but then the slider pops back up to 100% and then back down to 10% and it does this every single time. If you are not in the same room as the light, it makes it seem like the light is fading down and up and down again, but it is actually just SengledHome being what I would call, “stupid” ...but I can’t do anything about it since it is what came with the cheap (but good) bulbs. The Hue app is much nicer, but those bulbs are much more expensive. So I guess there’s the trade-off.
I’m a college student so I’m already under enough stress as it is, and this bulb just not worth my time. I have never written a review for any app in my 20 years but this set up for just one bulb shouldn’t be this hard. I would advise anyone thinking of buying this, please don’t. It has taken me 2 hours in total just to get to the point where SengledHome doesn’t fail and recognizes the bulb, but ultimately can’t get past the part where it fails to name my bulb ( just a side note ) it’s about a 5 step process to make an account, add a bulb, add the WiFi, and then finish setting up, but in every step it failed probably about 5x for each step. At this point I really could care less to set it up. The whole point of this type of technology is to make your life easier but lmaoo that is not the case here
My second review

by Zlax317
I love the bulbs, but your process for setting it up is just painful. I’m a college student and I often move them and set them up at my home and my college apartment, and in the last 4 months the process has changed every single time. I couldn’t get them to work with a google home, and now I have to scan the bulb qr codes to set them up again? It’s just simply not working and it seems like the old process was much easier. Just looking for a dash of consistency. Again, i really do like the bulbs. Just pick a process, make it consistent over time and simplify it!
A Sloppy App That Just Got Worse
2024-11-17
by Hrothgar1844
If it wasn’t already clunky enough, there is now an ad that pops up EVERY TIME I open SengledHome . How ‘bout you get rid of that, and while you’re at it, allow for dark mode. There nothing that spoils the mood lighting like an app that makes your screen bright. Come on, people....
Update: They apologized for the accidental pop-up ad and disabled it. SengledHome is still not very user-friendly and needs to be better thought out before we’re in four or five star territory. Dark mode is a MUST and setting activation times should continue from :59 to :00 instead of having to reverse scroll back to :00. Additionally, for those of us without a home button, scrolling when setting activation times (such as wake-up times)....it’s too close to the bottom of the screen which causes us to accidentally close SengledHome while setting these times. Please test this stuff on the latest iPhones! Simple, basic quality control goes a long way.
Great, But with Some Problems
2024-11-17
by 1983647
SengledHome is great, it is easy, bright, and is fun to control. The only problem I have is how limited the light modes are on these bulbs. When I go to press the scenes on the home page, the lights do not change any color at all. I also updated SengledHome recently but still nothing. With the new update came a couple new modes, like the rhythm mode. The rhythm mode does not even dance to any music I play though, all the bulbs just flash to default colors. Also Halloween and Christmas? Why would I need that when I can set all the lights to green and red or just orange? I expected more bang for my buck. I wish there was a more complex modes or fun things that would not make this product seem a little bit like a waste of my money. They just seem like normal color changing light bulbs to me with some added color. I’m kind of disappointed.
spyware app?
2024-11-17
by Freeeeeeeek
had a couple of Sengled smart leds and a hub for a few months... no problem setting up and they’ve worked fine using SengledHome... but today I’m getting the “lost connection to Internet” error on this Sengled app... and after I tried restarting the hub and app a couple of times, I checked the US and EU Sengled websites and both were down... then contacted Sengled on Facebook Messenger and their representative admitted their servers were down and that was the reason for the problems... no word on how long the company will take to fix the problem, and in the meantime my lights only work at their last settings using a Sengled wall switch... big question is: why do the Sengled servers have to be up for my home Sengled hub, lights, and app to work? basically, looks the Sengled app has to talk to corporate servers to work—which is super creepy... folks not into spyware may wish to look elsewhere for an led light system...
Been using SengledHome for a couple years now. It’s great, and I’m overall happy with Sengled- but it loses a star for three minor things 1- it’s slow to load. Opening SengledHome takes a few moments. Not very long, but it feels slow compared to other technology. 2- it doesn’t refresh. If you turn on a bulb at the switch and open SengledHome at the same time or had it open a few minutes ago, it won’t see that bulb unless you restart SengledHome . 2- it doesn’t have an Apple Watch app/compatibility. Minor, but it seems like a missed opportunity.
Excellent experience & functionality

I am genuinely confused by the overall low rating given the ~500 reviews.
The only suggestion I would make is branding the packaging differently to make it more obvious what type of product is inside. I thought I ordered Smart WiFi bulbs, but in reality I ordered the bulbs that required a hub. Not a problem but it took some fiddling to figure out why Alexa didn’t see my bulbs.
These bulbs have been great, our use-case is strictly Alexa but that may change as we add full color bulbs. The cost per white bulb is marginal when compared to the cost of LEDs which we just replaced throughout our house. We are also running Philips Hue so we are actively comparing the two (booth controlled through Alexa), and so far there is no distinguishable difference. Both products do exactly what I want them to, but Sengled does it for a fraction of the cost.
The hub is easy to setup and the bulbs are easy to setup. My only recommendation is to power on each device (hub & bulbs) for 3-5 minutes before trying to discover and configure. Do that and you’re golden!
Excellent product as standalone smart bulbs

by Aromal8dy
Not expensive in comparison with a regular LED bulb. One hub can hook up like 60 bulbs! We have them everywhere possible in our home. It made our LR inset ceiling lights so much more functional! They were on 3 switches before, 3 on 2 switches and one on its own. Essentially, they are each on their own switch NOW. BUT/AND, you can group your bulbs, and that is what we did. Our bulbs are now dimmable (sp.?) each or as a whole group, or selected, all with their own dimming slider. Great for turning lights on before you walk in the house, or when going to bed. I don’t even have to reach over to turn my nightstand lights off. Sengled, I look forward to your development of new bulbs (CANDLEABRA please).
Works great except one thing

by RockIsBack
I was skeptical downloading SengledHome with all the low star ratings. So far SengledHome seems to work fine. I’m not sure why the low rating on SengledHome. It would be nice to have a dark mode, the white is too glaring when setting the lights at the color and brightness desired.
The only thing I can’t figure out is I have two identical color changing bulbs ordered about a week apart from each other. One bulb in one room lists all the preset effects, but the other one doesn’t. This doesn’t make any sense why one would have preset effects and not the other??
Maybe Sengled can answer this?
Works great with some hiccups

System works great for the price point, compared to the other brands. But setup is less desirable, takes time to pair. Trying to pair switches has been an event, I’ve purchased 6 and only 1 has been paired. Thinking about returning them all, if I can’t get them paired the weekend. It’s not worth the hassle, but would of made the bathroom bulbs more functional as it is a pain walking into a dark room and then asking Alexa to turn on the lights waking up my spouse. But the lights work great and haven’t had any connection issues with them and I have almost 15 bulbs.
Update: Finally got all of my switches paired, it is hard for me to just let things be, I have to figure it out. So I went to the hub and hit add device then when it was searching for bulbs held down the on and off for it to locate and it paired no problem. Thank goodness I didn’t let the switches beat me lol.
So to be fair the product did not work perfectly with SengledHome right away but this review is for outstanding customer service. I got in touch with them when the lights were syncing properly. They were awesome, knew the problem and worked with me to reset and sync the lights. Immediately their solution worked and from then on out no problems to report app is working great!
