This MacOS app does the basic functions as expected however there is no information on how to upgrade or how get the full version despite waifu2x clearly stating that upgrade as possible and that it will remove the "trial "labeling to provide full feature set.
***In the developer response, they state there is no full version yet in their very own app it's littered with gold lettered "trial" badges on different options and there's literally a paragraph description claiming that you have to upgrade to get the full version. So clearly this developer doesn't even know what's in his own app!! In addition reviewing an app it's not complaining. It's called a reviewing. Perhaps being less offended and more knowledgeable about your own app would benefit you greatly and provide a better product for users.

I have been using this app in IOS for years now with its latest updates and the various improved scaler models but never I had any issues before of literally waiting for them to even start processing the image file regardless of what resolution it is up until just recently. Whenever I refresh waifu2x or turn on my moderately powerful hardware iPhone, it always loads the chosen models first every single time. The main issue is that it takes over a minute just to finish loading a model. I have been using practically the same exact settings before and after I upgraded to a new phone yet it doesn’t make a dent in the annoying long loading times.

It’s not something that brakes waifu2x for its main purpose on what is trying to do but hopefully, this will get patched soon and it’ll make it easier for us to not wait this long to change even over a single image/video than it should. Around five-second load times when choosing a model at least would be very much tolerable regardless that the software app didn’t have any loading times before I made this review.

I would give 5 stars but it uses the old photo picker API that requires me to change the photo library access inconveniently.
Much needed request: please use the PHPicker API instead of the old UIImagePickerController. That way I don't need to expose my full photo library to waifu2x , and I can conveniently select photos without having to constantly change the limited photo library selection in the settings. If you did that this would definitely be a 5 star app, but until then it is a major inconvenience to have to do that.

I don’t know if it is the issue of iOS not giving the full file to waifu2x, or if it is that the upscaling process of waifu2x throw away some information of the original photo, but whatever it is even when I set the output format to heif, it still wouldn’t preserve the full dynamic range of the original photo. I don’t want to pay for more AI models if this problem isn’t fixed.

Despite its whimsical appearance, waifu2x can easily be applied in a business context. Client send you a low resolution JPEG? No problem! waifu2x will upscale and clean!

Additionally, I've found the developer to be very responsive in communication when troubleshooting some features.

Do you ever make your canvas too small? Do all the websites you use degrade quality? This will fix that. I love using this to resize my artwork and to optimize clarity for the different sizes I need. I use this all the time.

I’ve used waif2x on the web and my MacBook. waifu2x is gold and not only that, but kept up to date. I use it for low resolution artwork and as far as I’m concerned, it’s the last and least expensive upscaling app I’ll ever need.

Better than using this app on Safari. Annoying Captcha, and just because. I like how you can compare the original and the new version. I found this by accident on my laptop but the reviews were good so I downloaded It. No ads, no BS. Bless whoever made this.

So I heard about waifu2x on Instagram and downloaded it on my S8 but it didn’t work at all. Then I tried downloading it on my iPad and it works beautifully! All my pictures, even the blurriest ones look hd and I love it! If I could give six stars I would!

I use waifu2x to increase the quality of my edits and they look very good, I was trying out waifu2x and I had a very blurry picture where it was pixeled and it came out very clear which was surprising.

Dude, where to begin.. Everything works flawlessly 98% of the time. The majority of the UI is genuinely intuitive, and easy to navigate. Then there’s waifu2x function itself, the upscaling resolution is Phenomenal, to say the least. Thank y’all for the awesome product, would love to see what y’all got next.

I love waifu2x, so many anime pictures from times past are so low qaulity, when i found waifu2x it was a game changer and it is absoluty worth the cost. I use it all the time. it is that good.

The models supported in waifu2x allow you to upscale any type of image easily.

Very professional app with a clean and efficient interface for quickly upscaling images. I love using this to screenshot diagrams and then upscaling them to add to my notes.

Best part is the "upgraded" version is not a monthly subscription. Well worth the money.

I love waifu2x so much. I've been creating a ton of AI art, lately mostly manga related stuff. Having to use my Mac to upscale really broke my workflow. I really love having the ability to upres my files right on my iPad and even my phone. I did have to upgrade to get the one that does anime best, but it's so very worth it. I love the quality of the output.

If your an editor like me then waifu2x is 100% for u I normally use this all the time for icons and photos I post on ig for amazing quality. This is so good u can use this to make episodes released the same day with low quality making it into HD. Props to the creator for making an amazing app and not only that allowing us to be able to buy for a one time purchase 💯

waifu2x is my go-to solution whenever I can’t find high-resolution versions of artwork. It even allows me to use Procreate in “lower” resolutions like 2048x2048 and then have them upscaled to a massive 8192x8192 without any noticeable quality issues!

Furthermore, as another reviewer said, this really reveals the raw power that usually lies dormant in Apple’s devices. The this app algorithm normally requires CUDA and a beefy Nvidia desktop GPU to perform at a decent speed, but waifu2x takes advantage of Metal Performance Shaders is Core ML (based on a setting) and runs really dang well on modern iOS devices, especially those featuring Apple’s Neural Engine.

Like another reviewer has said, waifu2x demonstrates just how powerful iOS devices can be. Running this on other computers (not the website options) was far slower, and had the computer working VERY hard, fabs running at full speed. It makes me wonder what trick iOS hardware has that enables it to do the same thing as NVIDIA’s CUDA GPU’s. Anyway, I use this all the time for artwork, photos, but most of all, screenshots from games. Not really what it was designed for, but it really makes a difference! Big thanks to the developer for making what is FAR from simple on a computer, very easy and quick on my iPhone.

For a cellphone app the capabilities and speed this have meet and sometimes exceed what I can do on my high-spec gaming rig with an expensive GPU and very expensive software!

I love how easy it is to switch between the models, and how easy it is to adjust everything. Titling the models what they’re best at is also a huge help for those of us that aren’t familiar with the model names and what they do!

It was only a few short years ago where making an image larger without resolution loss was completely impossible, and here we are able to do it on a humble iPhone!

I have no idea how it works, but it works so well. The desktop/web versions use powerful Nvidia CUDA tech, which these mobile devices don't have. And yet, despite the huge limitations, it still works amazingly.
