this app is incredibly useful and user-friendly! Every feature is conceived with the singer and teacher in mind—including variable tempo, key, fermata, melody slider, and new tools to cut and edit excerpts. All of these fancy features would be pointless if there was not an extensive repertoire library with thousands of classical and music theater songs played by professional collaborative pianists. As a voice teacher and singer, I use this app daily in the studio. Much of the standard classical repertoire and standard-to-new musical theatre rep is available. It is especially helpful for contemporary music theater songs like “Waving Through A Window”. I’m a decent pianist, but I can’t play that! In preparing for my own performances, I was delighted to find the entire Bernstein song cycle, “I Hate Music!”. I’ve sung it before and am relearning it for a Bernstein at 100 concert. It’s very tricky! By the time I rehearse with my live accompanist, I will have solidly prepared thanks to this app. Whatever sorcerery created this digital magic, I thank you!

As a voice teacher and singing professional, when I heard about Appcompanist, I subscribed to it right away (for short term use). I quickly realized how wonderful this is for a voice teacher who, with decent, but not concert abilities, plays piano for my students lessons, which locks me at the piano, or else I’d need to hire a pianist, which isn’t financially feasible for the student base I have. From the inception of Appcompanist, it has slowly grown in its rep list, the ability to stop/start, change keys, etc is fabulous. I’ve really appreciated that the company WANTS to make it better. Anytime I’ve found an issue, I’ve brought it to their attention and they fix it and make changes. They are always listening to their subscribers because they want this to be something that is usable for a LONG time. And as a subscriber, I want this to be around for a LONG time too! Thank you, this app for trying to make our musical lives better.

I have been having so much fun singing with this app, it has helped renewed my joy in singing and my willingness to practice. Knowing that I have all the accompaniment for my songs PLUS melody track if needed, is awesome. Being able to change keys and tempo INSTANTLY is so cool and helpful. I am still learning how to use the fermata button, but I think it is so great that the feature is there. The catalogue of songs is extensive (opera art song, musicals, etc) and I emailed the developers to get some spirituals added particularly those by Moses Hogan. They were super responsive and helpful and they said they would prioritize adding those songs. Appcompanist sits on my iPhone, but once I connect my phone to an external speaker, it sounds like I have a pianist right in the room! I have been practicing with Appcompanist and I plan to perform with it this Sunday (10/29). I have been looking for something like this for a long time. Check it out, it rocks! Woo hoo!!

Admittedly I was on the fence due to Appcompanist not containing a good portion of recital rep that I needed. After an email exchange with the developers, I’m glad I decided to give it a chance. Appcompanist is fantastic and works as advertised, and is a perfect rehearsal tool for those of us that are keyboard challenged.

In addition, I requested a number of songs be added a few weeks ago. I received notification from Appcompanist that new songs were added, and it was half of the songs I listed. Immediately after, I get an email from the developers telling me that they were added and that the rest of my requests would be taken care of within the week. AMAZING customer service, and worth every penny.

The amount of repertoire available and the controls at hand to adapt for your style is as good as it can get absent a real life pianist.

Even better, this was so helpful at the start of the Covid 19 crisis. I was able to make a recording of some lenten pieces to send to my church job, rather than going into the city and the church and risk being exposed or exposing others during this pandemic. I emailed the developers about my intended usage and they quickly responded with the green light. As an active performer and teacher, I feel the subscription price is worth it. Thank you this app.

I think that Appcompanist is cool but I feel there needs to be some additions to it
1. Add more music genres and songs. At auditions sometimes they want you to sing a specific genre and it would be nice to have more genres and more songs to be able to pick from and sing and I feel that it’s limited.
2. I think that if you want to buy the sheet music that you should and maybe only pay for the sheet music and have it play the song instead of a subscription. A lot of us go to school and I feel it’s a bit much with the amount for the subscription and even the 3.99 one is only for 6 songs.

3. Have an option to print out your sheet music and practice with Appcompanist for the song for your audition. I feel like many of us would like to have that option so that you can go back and practice parts of the song to improve on and have an accompanist to play the song.

this app is truly a gift. My students have benefited so much from it and as their professor I am able to support them in real time by using this tool. In small colleges where their are not enough accompanists to be in every performance class, this tool has been a life saver. Thank you for creating it and offering it at such a reasonable price. I highly recommend Appcompanist to all professors and students. You will not regret your decision and your investment in yourself by subscribing to this amazing app!

Can’t say enough about Appcompanist! I have a concert coming up and have had to learn some music quickly and don’t have a lot of time/money for a lot of coachings and rehearsals with a pianist. This has been a really easy tool that has helped me to not only learn a new piece at my pace, but to fully prepare myself for when I finally work on it with a coach or in rehearsal. Not only does Appcompanist help me save time and money, but it helps me learn the music accurately and effectively.

I’ve been playing around with the Ap and it takes some getting used to. The options for making audition cuts and changing tempos and keys and fabulous however, I noticed that your custom audition cut will NOT connect to a Bluetooth speaker completely defeating the purpose of using the cut for a self tape. I also wish that I could just upload accompaniment tracks I have already had made prior to purchasing the Ap and editing them in the Ap. It is unfortunate to have to be at the mercy of the Ap and what tracks are available :/

I bought Appcompanist at the recommendation of my voice teacher. This is a wonderful way to learn new music - and with accompaniment.
I love the ability to change key - an excellent way to determine the best key for my voice.
They are VERY accommodating. I requested they add 9 songs by Charles Ives that were not yet available. They replied that they would fulfill my request as soon as possible. Two weeks later all 9 were had been added!!

I don’t usually write reviews but Appcompanist has been the game changer for my vocal studio. I no longer waste time worrying about accompanying my students. I can 100% focus on the students vocals. Recordings are beautiful with simple but powerful tools that still allow me to be in complete control of music editing. The digital library is huge and they keep adding to it all the time!

I can’t say enough good things about Appcompanist and it’s flexibility. It’s user-friendly, has a large collection of music and the ability to change tempos and keys is 2nd to none. The subscription price may seem expensive, but when you consider what you would pay a rehearsal accompanist who could instantly transpose to any key, play the melody along with the full accompaniment anywhere between half and double time, you’re actually saving money or, at the very least, adding considerable value for learning and reviewing music. Thanks for a great app!

Appcompanist has been working flawlessly for me. Have been exploring it all week. The pianists have done a first rate job with the very extensive repertoire. What an incredibly easy way to learn new songs. Like having a live-in accompanist. Thrilled that they are adding new pieces daily. A subscription to this service is well worth the price. Hooked up to my bluetooth speakers it sounds incredible.

I love using Appcompanist. It is like I have an accompanist I can carry around in my pocket and use at any time. I use it to sing through my favorite songs I already know, and find new songs with the extensive repertoire that I can easily sift through. Now there is no excuse for not practicing, and learning new rep has never been easier. Thank you for making this great app!

I think this is an excellent app, but my one big complaint is that a lot of the recordings aren’t in tempo making them very difficult to practice with. It’s one thing if the singer is creating the rubato but when the accompanist is doing it it’s quite difficult to follow especially since in a lot of romantic pieces the accompaniment can be sparse making tempo impossible to predict. If these are meant to be used for practice, they should be strictly in time so the singer is able to count properly.

My piano skills aren’t fabulous to begin with and now I’m dealing with arthritis that’s making playing more than vocalise painful. The ability to isolate or layer the melody on the accompaniment, to change keys or tempo has just been great!
Plus the support team is responsive; they’re always adding new material! For less than half the cost of one lesson per month, get it!

Love love love Appcompanist. It has totally freed up teaching for me so I can focus on the student and not limping along on the accompaniment. I also contacted customer support about some songs that I frequently teach and the response from them was incredibly fast, helpful, and productive. Cannot say enough good things about Appcompanist.

The best app for literally anyone dabbling in musical theatre. Whether if you’re a voice teacher, practicing your rep, or getting ready for an audition Appcompanist is right for you. Tons of songs and they keep adding more and more. I hope they add Forever Plaid!

Yes, there’s a monthly fee(you might forget you’re paying for it), but the service is great. There’s an option to play just the melody or just the accompaniment, or a combination of the two. Also, I have not found one of my songs yet that is not on this app. Amazing job, thank you this app.

I recently began a recurring gig with a chamber choir, with some solo work, and I perform in a lot of musical theater. Appcompanist is going to change my life for the better when it comes to rehearsal. It has wonderful, seamless functionality. It will not replace the accompanist for performances, but auditions and rehearsal just got a lot easier!

this app is a great practicing tool for young singers like myself, and for more seasoned ones as well. I am very happy with Appcompanist thus so far. Also I requested a song, and they did their best to put it up as fast as they could.
