Bike Itaú Reviews

My boyfriend are here traveling for a while and we were hoping to use the bikes but you must have a Brazilian, Chilean, or Argentinian passport and phone number to use BikeItaú . Please update BikeItaú to allow all passport users to use BikeItaú ! You’re missing out on more business from expats and travelers in Brazil!
The payment processing functionality is complete garbage. It would not accept either a US credit card or a Peruvian debit card. I received multiple types of error messages on each. Really disappointed that I couldn’t get a bike here. I have no problems with these types of apps in other countries. Even the Citybike app in lima is way better than this. Not only do the payment options actually work there, but you can check out multiple bikes from one account on their app, which is not possible from BikeItaú, so I wouldn’t even be able to use this to get bikes for my whole family.
I literally cannot even figure out how to rent a bike on BikeItaú. I can say without a doubt I have e never encountered an app with a worse user experience than this. 3 years ago when o was in the Rio BikeItaú would work once and then start having problems, 3 years later and it may actually be worse than it was before. I literally can’t even fin where to buy a plane within BikeItaú , which it says is the way in which you use the service. This is a head scratcher beyond words......
Don’t waste your time if you’re not Brazilian or don’t have a CPF. I’m astounded- São Paulo and Rio are among the largest, most interesting metropolises in the world. Bike Itau is the only bike rental app in these cities, but you can’t use the service if you’re not Brazilian... Also, the bike rental stations only accept credit cards, so your debit card are also useless. Waste of time
It’s criminal how almost every bike station in Salvador, Brazil has 2-4 broken docks. It’s been this way since I arrived in Sept. 2024. This is a huge waste of time for riders and waste of business for Itaú and Tembici. JET is consuming your micromobility market share here because you fail to provide a value service to customers in Salvador. Please do better. Many riders still prefer to ride a bike over motoscooters.
My bike was in terrible shape. Several of the bikes wouldn’t even unlock from their stations when we tried. I tried to return my bike after 14 minutes, I got the green light displaying that the return worked fine, but my ride didn’t end until 20 minutes.
BikeItaú is treacherous to use. I went through all the hoops until, at the end, it said that no plan could be activated for us today. No further explanation. Also, there is not an option to go back and edit your information if you believe you know what the problem is. There is horrendous user mobility within BikeItaú .
If you are traveling about and not from Brazil, then forget about being able to rent a bike. This system is losing business on foreigners that travel to Brazil. The worst thing about BikeItaú is that it doesn’t tell you this upfront. You have to try a bunch of things before giving up and realizing that it just won’t work for non Brazilian nationals.
I would recommend one of two things:
* make it clear that BikeItaú is only for Brazilians
* allow anyone with a credit card or PayPal to rent the bike. You could ask for an upload of passport and even a $100 usd hold, if you are concerned about the bike not being returned
Tried to rent bikes with a friend but they were not able to complete transaction in BikeItaú without explanation, multiple tries. Have tried to contact customer service but it’s only a virtual assistant that keeps starting over after first question.
Awful.
The service is amazing, but the deliverable is hardly deign of it. I cannot retrieve bikes(, the automatic payment still works though), cannot cancel the plan, and cannot cancel my card. Really not as good as it used to be, unfortunately.
Bikes are great and well maintained, and the system is / can be super convenient. The software is terrible. Terrible. The customer support is great, but about half the time you can’t get any “available” bikes from a given station bc of either software or perhaps hardware problems (to be fair, many are located near the beach and get corroding sea breeze 24/7). Also about 1/4 of the time you can’t check a bike back in, bc of either app software or station hardware.
It used to be a lot better in previous years, but these days is not at all dependable so often as a result you end up better off walking to be sure you arrive somewhere on time.
Not so “free”
I signed up in SP for 10 free days
A 3 hour ride in Sao Paolo ended up costing $60 RS
Then, I got to Rio, now all the sudden i have to sign up for a plan, and it all costs money
App can’t use English! Beware!
BikeItaú was difficult to navigate for a foreigner and ultimately, after 20 mins of trying, it rejected me. I’ve used similar apps in European and North American countries without trouble. Also, the support page led to a 404 page :/
Why the same plan cannot unlock 2 bikes? I mean 1 couple with 1 cellular phone only can’t ride 2 bikes.
It’s awesome to see how it’s getting better day after day! Keep the good working guys!
Super easy to use BikeItaú and get the bike. Worth it if you’re going to the most common places around Rio!
I’m from South Africa, it worked no problem. My girlfriend had issues with her credit card, but after contacting support they sorted it out.
BikeItaú was Very easy to figure it out 👍 no issues at all
One of the best app ever easy to use better then a taxi or Uber health and earn money
I use them everyday
