It’s not worth it

After I bought this it stopped working. I noticed the due dates and payoff dates were wrong. I’m trying to fix them because I just need something to help me organize my payments. It will not let you change any dates. I tried deleting the information and then re-enter it with my desired payoff date. It goes back to the wrong date. It has me paying off a $5000 bill in three months when I set it up for six months. It was really pointless to download DebtPayoffBox if you can’t adjust or fix any errors.

Not the best app

No way to mark debt as paid once paid, you can only delete the debt. Being able to see each debt paid off and see the paid off debt pile up is more motivating to me than only being able to see what’s ahead of me. Also there’s no way to get ahold of support except Facebook messenger which they don’t respond to. And, DebtPayoffBox says it’s free but it does cost $3 unless you only have 2 debts. I don’t mind the $3 if the other issues I see were fixed.

Nice start….

DebtPayoffBox has a straightforward layout, and it’s easy to enter info, although it does suffer from the “too clean” design ethos that makes a user wonder if they’ve actually found all of DebtPayoffBox features.

Improvements that are necessary for it to actually make sense for those with multiple credit cards:

1. Integrated payment list, sorted by date and grouped monthly. Seeing all of the payoff plans for each individual credit card is nice, but seeing all of the payments listed by date world actually reflect the plan a user needs to follow.

2. Show the interest rates in the credit card list.

3. Sort cards by interest rate.

4. App notifications that remind me what to pay, when, to follow the payoff plan I’ve chosen.

Looking forward to a more full-featured app that helps people remember and complete their plans.

Buggy

It will not allow you to set the initial balance or the next payment even though they are clear options. This includes on the $5 version:

The initial balance option just straight up won’t let you type anything in it. I tried playing around with the balance date and it didn’t effect it.

The next payment no matter what you set it to will default to the next month on the balance date. So if you have, for example, student loans on hold… you cannot set the balance date to present day in Oct 2021 and mark the next payment date to Jan 2022. Here’s how exactly that looks on the user side:

Balance date: 20 Oct 2021
Next payment date: 1 Jan 2022, the selectors auto rotated back to 20 Nov 2022. Same thing happens for all dates in 2022 from Jan-Oct. so it looks like there is some coding telling the month box to not allow a payment date before the current month regardless of the year & day.

Balance date: 20 Oct 2021
Next payment date: 1 Nov or Dec 2022, allows you to set it but once you hit save it will start payments on 1 Nov 2021. Again, looks like the coding it not allowing your next payment date to be set separate of your Balance date which took me a while of playing around with to figure out what was going wrong. Once the UX/UI is fixed there I’m happy to up my rating & update this review.

Basic tracking of balances, but no way to add a monthly payment

I wanted an app where I could enter my balances and organize them by the snowball method, which states app does very well. If you have more than two debts however you need to buy the pro version.

However I went to go enter payments after my first month of using DebtPayoffBox and there’s no way to do that. It looks like you need to update the balance of the debt after you make a payment each month. It seems more logical for them to have a button to either say I’ve made my minimum payment or just a spot to enter the payment you made for that month. Maybe I am missing something. I think I read a comment talking about version 1.4. I am currently using 1.38.

I wish I had known…

DebtPayoffBox is okay, but I wish I had known about the Debt Payoff Planner & Tracker app first. It is much better designed and includes input areas for everything you may encounter with debt balances like promotional interest rates. I had to pay to enter all my debts in DebtPayoffBox in order to even see my debt picture. I had buy the other app too though was well worth the cost; it provides everything you need for a successful journey to debt reduction and/elimination. DebtPayoffBox needs more input options in order to give you the best financial plan to pay off debts. Too bad I can’t get my money back as I’ll be deleting it and all data within a week of purchase.

No place to add extra payments.

I like DebtPayoffBox for its ease of use and intuitive application but I have a few complaints. First of all it’s not worth $4.99 for what it does. I already did this on a spreadsheet. I wanted to be able to add extra payments when I pay them. Isn’t the goal to get out of debt. This only allows you to may the minimum payment and not add more unless you edit every monthly payment. Also, I would love be able to choose my order, do it lowest to highest amount or highest interest. I cant do any of that. Only alphabetical, date or largest amount to smallest. Would love to know if their is an update to this. Thanks.

Two devices?

DebtPayoffBox is great, but it would be awesome to have the option to save the details under an account. I initially started using DebtPayoffBox on my iPad but sometimes I need to pull up the information on my phone… In order to do that I’d have to manually add the information to DebtPayoffBox on my phone. Big hassle.

Fun to use, wish I could add extra payments.

I like DebtPayoffBox , but it would be nice if I could add extra payments beyond the snowball amount I make rather then having to redo the amount owed and pay off date. It’s great for a quick look at how much I owe and how long till its payed off. It helps a great deal by condensing what I owe in one place on my phone.

You’re paying for Excel, but it’s easy

I am in a bad position with my debt and attempted to make DebtPayoffBox in a spreadsheet but i am more likely to check an app than a spreadsheet. I wish there were buttons to quickly add payments, but that is not an option. Seeing my payoff progress and having help make a plan to not be in debt, drowning in interest, that DebtPayoffBox helped me make was worth $3. If only I only had 2 sources of debt so I didn’t have to pay, but I wouldn’t need DebtPayoffBox if it were they simple! Now, making someone who is clearly in debt and needing help getting out of it makes it awfully cruel when you think about asking them to pay for the help, but DebtPayoffBox has no ads so I understand. For me, it was worth it. I can see why it wouldn’t be for most.

So Far, So Good

The free version does only allow you to add 2 dents and it doesn’t allow you to see the Payoff Plan. You can click on each debt listed and it will show you amortization schedule of each debt.

The Pro Version honestly isn’t much more, other than you can add more than 2 debts, add extra payment and select Strategy (I.e. Highest Interest Rate & etc.)

I think if we were able to see the debt amortization schedule of ALL the debts in one spot vs having to click on each one individually and the option to download it would be make DebtPayoffBox even more appealing.

Just The Level of Detail I Need to See

I paid the 2.99 to add additional debts and now I can have all of my debts in one place with an amortization schedule and estimated payoff date. It’s not exact in its calculation but I can work with that because I like how the icon changes when you update the balance. I also decided to treat my household expenditures as “lines of credit” so I have an idea of how much money I can set aside to pay in advance. The only thing I wish was an option was for other if we could select things like rent or household items for example. Other than that, I am happy with DebtPayoffBox .

Simple, but effective

It does what it claims to do. Low cost, and easy to use. Only thing is I wish you could say “I want to be debt free by July 2022” and DebtPayoffBox could backtrack it and say “You must add $100 to your monthly snowball in order to reach your goal”

Basically I’d like to reverse the formula using the date. Instead of having to just play with the snowball number a bunch and see how it affects the debt free date.

Exactly what I need

Not too complicated. I manually update some numbers now and then, and that is always gratifying and keeps me aware of what’s going on. Snowball is super. I with there was a way to organize by amount owed, not just originating debt. It might just be a glitch, but could be super helpful if it could list the debt in that fashion. It’s 5 stars because compared to all the others out there, it’s leaps and bounds better.

Awesome app

I’ve been using DebtPayoffBox for nearly 8 months to track how much I pay in interest every month on credit cards, loans, mortgage, etc. it’s helped me estimate how much I’d save if I do the snowball method to pay off our debts. Extremely useful and helpful. Mahalo

Great app

This takes care of what I need to pay off first in a snowball effect by paying off the smaller bills and working up to the largest. I enter all my bills and how much extra I am going to pay. Set the bills by date and tells me how much to pay for each bill to pay them off. Great App!

Debt Free

DebtPayoffBox has helped me take control of my finances and stay motived while doing so. When you see the numbers go down every week, every month... the feeling is indescribable. If you are trying to get out of debt, DebtPayoffBox will help you succeed. You need this. Thank you Debt Free Box team.

Debt Organizer

Definitely worth paying for the upgrade. Find out that my Home Depot card interest rate was outrageous high. I was able to organize my debt by highest interest rate, which helped pay off my debt faster. This put my debt in front of me in one location and allow me to see the total I owed. Great app!

Great app, but…

Great functionality to visualize futures payments, but I would say that it’s missing one off payments such as gifts or tax returns. It needs an option where I can randomly throw in an extra payment one month and it recalculated the remaining time and balances. This would have to be done in the debt details page. Other that that it’s a great app.

I can’t figure out how to fast forward

I like DebtPayoffBox but I can’t figure out how to fast forward to the current date or to indicate that I’ve made an extra payment to a particular debt.
