Violates my privacy settings

Despite never allowing Location Services or Notifications in the Settings for PhilaYMCA, every time I walk into the Spring Valley location, I get a push notification on my iPhone. I have WiFi turned off 99% of the time, and have never connected to the YMCA WiFi, so it’s not coming from that. I don’t even use PhilaYMCA to check in, rather I did a screen shot of my barcode and made the photo a favorite. Clearly PhilaYMCA is somehow circumventing Apple iOS user privacy settings. Makes me wonder in what other ways is PhilaYMCA taking data from me.

Minor complaints

Just two complaints: PhilaYMCA repeatedly asks if one would like to save a particular branch but never retains the answer, hence asking over and over. Also, there is a section of text (taken from old website?) that advises users that they can download PhilaYMCA . This seems superfluous since they’re already on PhilaYMCA .

Stopped syncing with Apple Health

It stopped syncing with Apple Health after February 1, 2022. I did double check all my settings even though I had not changed them. It also on week and month and year views of workouts appears jumbled chronologically and not always labeled. Somethings gone awry with PhilaYMCA. This limits its functionality in terms of workout recording and long-term record-keeping.

Buggy update

3 Stars because this is still a well designed app but the recent update seems to be a little buggy. I now receive a “No data available” screen when I try to look up the hours at my local Y. And PhilaYMCA is no longer importing workout data from the Precor/Preva app (despite deleting, reinstalling, and reconnecting just to be sure). I’m sure the bugs will get fixed, but that’s the current state of things.

Schedule options

It would be 5 stars however on PhilaYMCA class schedule doesn’t reflect the whole schedule. PhilaYMCA only shows morning time classes. I had to go on the desktop version and find out it’s more classes than I thought that I can actually attend like in the afternoon and evening. So I can finally use my membership properly.

Good and plenty

I think tie app is definitely good to have especially around getting notifications for changes and schedule upcoming events and other other activities at the Y and General. The only update I believe it could use, which would be very beneficial would be when you set it up and you pick your home branch that you don’t need to re-pick it every time you try to go to the schedules.

Awesome with recommendations

I really like PhilaYMCA for the scheduling and can see all of the classes which is great for my schedule and being able to add to my calendar. I like the notifications of changes or when something is closed or open it’s very informative and on time. While it does connect to a lot of fitness trackers I would like to see it connect to the Apple Watch or connected to the health app in Apple‘s iOS. Otherwise I love it.

Back to normal

Going back to the old format is better. No notice or instructions on how to use the new version led to negative reviews. Improve but don’t just replace. Y listened and within a few days, reverted back to to older version. I for one appreciate that they’re listening.

Makes planning and working out easy

I love being able to sign in without my card because I always lose those. Seeing the pool and workout schedules allows us to plan our visits correctly and being able to see hours and get notifications is awesome!

Works really well!

I got PhilaYMCA because you can no longer check the group exercise schedule from the website via mobile phone. I thought it was going to be annoying but it’s really nice and works very well. I like how I don’t have to wait for things to load, it’s just there!

Fun at the Y

I absolutely love it! It’s not far at all from my house 15 minutes tops. The facility is very clean. I absolutely love the pool! Very friendly staff, and members . it’s nice to have made some new friends while getting myself into shape. I try to go Monday through Friday. The time just flies being there. I just have a lot of fun at the Y.😁
I have nothing against LA Fitness, I have tried them briefly, but it’s just a much friendlier atmosphere at the YMCA Northeast. I’m very glad that I found it.

Great way to schedule and track

I love PhilaYMCA for planning out my week. I can easily visit the schedule and send the classes that I want to my calendar. Once it’s in the calendar, it’s built into the day and feels like a commitment. Also like the ability to track workouts.

Great staff, great instructors, very clean and I love the children walking through it’s great

I love the wine in Phoenixville. It’s amazing not only is it very clean, but very friendly when you walk in everyone says hello. You don’t feel like an outsider. The instructors are amazing Beth, C and Beth M are where I go every week for tai chi and Silver Sneakers classes with Beth M. Working out is something I’ve needed since my accident I fractured my back I have severe issues that I need to strengthen. Great place love in the YMCA in Phoenixville!

Good way to communicate with members!

PhilaYMCA is in excellent way to communicate with members when there’s a closing..ie: pool closing or classes are being canceled. It’s just frustrating when my home Y does not update PhilaYMCA !!! which would be so easy to do!!! and I show up at the gym and what I’m there for has been canceled. Come on Y admins.. USE PhilaYMCA !!

Fully functional

PhilaYMCA does everything I need it to do. I can view class schedules, check in and track my workouts. I’ve never had a problem with it.
I love the simplicity of having an app on my phone. No need for a member card or anything else. Love it,
I have this and app fir a Pilates studio that I belong to. They haven’t taken the time to make it as functional as the Y has done.

Love this app!

I am so happy this this app app exists! It is a one-stop place to display the barcode for checking in upon arrival, check group class schedules, bookmark my desired classes on my calendar as a reminder, read class descriptions, etc. Additionally, any pool or facility closures or schedule changes are posted on PhilaYMCA in real time.

Works as it should, which is rare with most apps!

A taste gives way to planning, fun the whole way

I downloaded PhilaYMCA so I could get a clear time for when the areas were open at my local Y per the recommendation of a staffer. The ease of use and introduction of Y Rewards poured on the exploratory taps and swipes and sure I may not be ready for Kickboxing tomorrow, but I do think I’m about to benefit from the Meditation class.

The challenges are nice but it’d be great to see them curated by local staff.

Great YMCA

The Willow Grove YMCA is so clean and beautiful I enjoy just going there just for the beauty of it!! I work out hard and then I’m sore the next day but I know at age 62 years old I have to keep on moving. I love the stretch and balance class at 12:15pm with Lisa! I also love the pool and Aqua boot camp on Wednesdays at 7:45pm to 8:30pm. The only down fall is all the classes are so early in the morning. Only one a week in the PM. I Love the Hot Sauna, it makes me feel so great when I leave!!! Thank you!!

Handy for Planning and Recording Exercise

PhilaYMCA makes it easier to plan and then also to remember what you do, in order to better balance the exercise options available. The rewards are nice, too—I now have a Y towel for each day of the week, which helps me get my 6 miles in 65 minutes on the open stride elliptical, when heavy, toxin-removing sweat would normally flood my eyes and tickle my nose. PhilaYMCA also accepts my trail mileage outside of the Y. It’s one of my few apps with near daily use.

Y

I love being able to get notifications for last minute pop up classes or cancellations right from PhilaYMCA . PhilaYMCA is so easy to use and helps me track my workout progress.
