Needs an update

2022-05-23

So many things don’t function or function poorly. I have used it for a while and can’t tell if this is related to Comet or to reddit hamstringing features intentionally. Videos don’t play, some threads cannot be continued, chats are not included and don’t give alerts when there is a new one, recently it has not been updating notifications on comments. It was a solid app, but has become frustrating to use.

Good but very slow

2022-06-24

I’ve been enjoying Comet so far for the most part. Definitely the best video player of all the iOS apps. Smooth interface with a good set of customizable features. But I am having major issues with the load times on Comet . Loading comments takes a good 10-20 seconds every time. I have tried putting up with it but the last time I tried to open a thread, I went and downloaded Apollo, opened it fine, then came back to this app only for it to still be loading. There is a lot to like about this app, but I guess I’ll be on Apollo until something changes.

It needs something

2022-07-25

I definitely love the design Comet provides compared to the official Reddit app. A lot cleaner and bubblier. But sometimes it feels a little toooo clean.

For example, this app shows the subreddit things were posted too as text only but it doesn’t show the subreddit icon. (Maybe even use those subreddit/user icons in more places) Also, some text is hard to differentiate because it’s all the same color, unlike the official Reddit app.

Another thing that I wish it had was if it automatically showed posts when tapping on your profile. All of these changes could make Comet prettier and easier to use. I know this could also make this app look more like the official Reddit app, but at least give us the option for these changes.

Other than that, I really love Comet and it’s superior features. Great job!

Great with lots of pontential.

Let me preface this by saying that Comet is waaaay better than using reddit through safari. It seems new and pretty bare feature wise, but the foundations are there(yay darkmode) It runs flawlessly on my M1 MBP, doesn't seem to use much battery. Comet looks great, and its easy to browse through Comet , the layout is different and might take some getting used to, but so far I love it. I'm just glad we finally have a useful alternative to the reddit website on macOS.

Love It

2022-09-27

this app is definitely one of the better Reddit clients. It has a ton of customization features and takes advantage of some useful swipe and tap gestures. My only complaint is when switching profiles. It’s pretty hidden and takes about 5 steps to get to it. It’d be a lot better if it was just a button on the bottom of the account page titled “Switch Account” that brought up a choose menu similar to the one in the default reddit app. That’s literally my only complaint.

Great alternative for the stock Reddit app

2022-10-28

Comet has everything I want except a way to share content directly to other reddit users. It has a great UI and lots of settings to customize it the way you want, as well as an alright curated home page (sometimes it will show the same stuff even a day later). I’m not sure if I’m missing something but if there was a way to share content directly it would be a 5/5.

Great App

2022-11-29

Super clean, quick, and easy to use. Seems like sometimes it's hard to hit certain buttons or links, but I'm new to iOS so it could just be me.

One thing I would like is to be able to see the poster's name on the main screen.

The nuances of Comet take a little getting used to, but after a bit you really see how much easier it is move through different parts of reddit.

Couple of points for the developer:
Sometimes on the search screen the keyboard gets stuck up and you can't switch ou5 of the search tab.
Other colors for themes would be nice.
The indent for children comments is kind of large. It would be easier to read if it were smaller.

Honestly great job to all involved. Thank you for your work!

Minimalistic, but still an awesome Reddit app.

2022-12-30

I’ll be honest. I’m very much a lurker, so I don’t post a lot. I use Reddit quite a bit, however. Great app and features! The only thing that really keeps me from switching to this app completely is that I can’t sort profile posts by new or top posts from the user. A very small complaint. Will absolutely change to 5 stars if/when this gets implemented.

Awesome

2023-01-31

I got sick of all the unresolved bugs in Apollo so I started looking at other clients. This is beautifully designed. The dev is extremely responsive. Updates come constantly. I had to remove a star due to the lack of mod tools. I currently have to switch back to Apollo to do moderator stuff, which is a little annoying. The dev says they're coming, but I hope it's sooner rather than later.

Fantastic Reddit App for Mac

2023-03-04

I am a big Apollo user on iOS and this is the closest thing you will find to that experience on Mac. There are a couple of things that I wish were possible so maybe the dev will see these and implement.

1. Ability to change not just the font but the size of the font.
2. Implement some type of gesture or option to hide the previously viewed posted after exiting and re-entering the this app app.
3. When using the Dark - Blue theme, it can be difficult to identify what sub the post is from. My suggestion would be to make this some type of accent color that stands out a little more.
4. I can't put my finger on it but I feel like the refresh button does not always work or maybe it take a significantly longer time than I would expect. Maybe this is just user error on my part XD
5. Ability to move the "move to next main comment" button that is in the lower right. On mobile I know why it is the bottom right but when viewing on the laptop that button is quite a ways a way from the main scrolling performed on the left.

These are all very particular comments and I would still use Comet regardless if they were implemented. I would highly reccomend if you are looking for a clean Reddit app for Mac. Hey dev, add a link somewhere so people can tip you for making such a great free app available!

Best Reddit app for iPad

2023-04-02

This is hands-down the best Reddit app you can get on the iPad today, and I’ve tried em all. Love the amount of thought the developer has put into the iPad version.

It’s simple and does exactly what I like. It’s not feature-light as some people are suggesting. I think a cool feature, though, might be caching comments and posts en-masse for reading them on a plane, etc.

Amazing

2023-05-04

I absolutely love Comet. It’s the best client I’ve found. The only annoying things I faced is that the 3 dots, on the top right corner of my screen, never seem to work on the first try. Further the edit button in the subreddit page doesn’t seem to work. Apart from that I love Comet and have shifted to it from the default reddit app.
Oh also, Comet is FREE with no IAPs and has NO ads.

Great app but a very annoying problem

2023-06-04

The ui and smoothness of Comet is great but there's one thing that makes Comet really annoying for me. There's no option to disable the swipe to upvote function, which is especially annoying when viewing comments because I can't swipe back to the previous screen without readjusting my grip to reach the very edge of the screen. Also there is no feature to rearrange subreddits for quicker access which I use everyday in Apollo. If these two things are fixed this would be my favorite app.

Edit: they implemented full screen swipe back so that fixes that problem! Still can't rearrange subreddits.

Clean, Simple, Apple UI

2023-07-06

The whole aesthetic of Comet is wonderful. The search functionality from the Home Screen is genius and so is the variable pull actions for comment voting. While there was some experimentation required to find all the features, it was worth it. Easy, simple and like Apple products, it just works.

This app is beautiful and underrated

2023-08-06

All the interactions feel smooth and the UI is well-presented and organized clearly. The cascading colored bars for replies look especially sublime in full black dark mode. All this *plus* some cool power features like the ability to automatically open Reddit links from your clipboard. You’re getting the quality of a paid app for free.

Very Good Reddit Alternative

2023-09-07

This is a great Reddit alternative, I have experienced no ads, a nice layout and you can still upvote and save posts, and create posts without paying money! The only in-app purchases are to tip them, and I highly recommend you do, only don’t side is that I can’t see the subreddit’s icons. That is the only downside, other than that, it is perfect!

Love the app but it has an irritating bug

2023-10-09

Fantastic app. Best Reddit experience.

It has a bug that I don’t know how to report (there’s no feedback function) so putting it here:

When viewing a post, as you scroll down the top toolbar (back, upvote, share etc) disappears. If you scroll back up, it reappears.

BUT if you tap the iOS status bar to auto scroll back to the top (standard iOS shortcut), the top toolbar does not reappear. There are a few other times it randomly doesn’t reappear. This is especially problematic for posts with many comments.

Seems like it’s too sensitive to manually scrolling up a specific amount before it displays.

UPDATE: I was using the setting you mentioned. I turned it off and it’s working great now. :)

Amazing app

2023-11-09

Sleek, beautiful and a delight to use, I’m switching from other 3rd party apps to this one and I’m not regretting the decision!

I just wish I could switch to my favorite subreddits right from the home tab, without having to go to my subscriptions tab. And a search icon at the top bar of the subreddit instead of being hidden in the options would be really nice too! (But I know I can just use the search tab and restrict to a subreddit) but other than that, really an amazing app!

So far, so great! but why Comet?

2023-12-11

What makes this app such a pleasant reddit app and uniquely better compared to all the others? It's design, it's simplicity, the UI placement, it really is intuitive and not obtrusive and impractical. But what makes it great? Why 5 Stars? The consideration of delivering this whole experience with great performance! Comet is lightweight and enjoyable, it's what every app should be like. My hopes for the future of this app is that it will continue to upgrade without losing what makes it unique. The balance of design and performance. The most underrated reddit app right now 👍

The New King

2024-01-11

I’ve tried them all, literally every current Reddit client on Comet Store. I switched back and forth between Narwhal and Apollo for the longest time; but no more.

this app looks and feels like a native iOS app. It’s not feature filled like the others, but it has everything you need in a Reddit client. It also not riddled with bugs like the competition. Plus, ad-free for free? What modern app gives you quality and no ads for free?

Great app, definitely better than the official Reddit app

2024-11-17

Good:

It’s very clean and fast, and it looks better than Apollo, Reddit, and Slide.

Bad:

When I reply to a comment, my reply doesn’t show up until I refresh the page.

In the inbox, there are three redundant ways to reply to a message/comment: tapping it, tapping the comment icon below, and sliding left. But to see the context of the comment, you have to slide left further until the three dots appear and then tap “Context.” It’s cumbersome, and I think it’d be better if just tapping the message showed the context since there are still two other quick ways to reply.

Other:

I’d really like the option to allow custom fonts. Slide used to do this, but it no longer works with fonts installed from profiles; they just haven’t updated it to the newer font API.

Good app, some suggestions

2024-11-17

Honestly Comet has so much potential. Not to mention it’s already quite good. Won’t use it as much though since it’s lacking some features.

1) The commenting interface is okay. Doesn’t compete with Apollo. You can select(highlight and select) portions of comments and quote them in Apollo. You can also highlight your own text and automatically bold or italicize it. Very useful if you don’t remember the syntax required for these actions.

2) I would love if when you go to the profile icon, the overview generated right under the “history” option. Maybe a page break and then the overview under. Way to much navigation to get to the overview right now.

3) Also a bug - after searching something and deleting the text and refreshing the search page. The very same search results still hang around. Up until the next search

4) Would love for the upvote/downvote and comment buttons to be moved under. It’s sort of an Inconvenience to keep them up top. They also act as a page break.

Great but needs updating.

2024-11-17

I find Comet much more legible to read than apollo and the theming is much more minimalistic. I just wish Comet had some quality of life features like auto day/night mode according to the iOS 13 setting. The twitter links also have very low quality preview images which make Comet not as consistent.

The only decent reddit app on iOS

2024-11-17

The closest reddit app I could find to Reddit is fun - finally a usable browser.

I can stick the thumbnails on the left, gifs can actually be rewound, almost all of the little stuff that drives me insane about other apps on the iOS store is fixed here.

Kudos to the dev, I was going crazy trying to put up with the alternatives.

Readder Replacement!!!

2024-11-17

Ever since Readder for Reddit stopped being supported, I’ve been trying to find the right replacement. This is it - finally!!! It’s super slick, simple yet has enough in the settings to allow me to personalize. Wish they had swipe to go between favorites like home and popular. Update to come?!
