This is the most incompetently written app I have ever had the misfortune to be swindled by. The accessory works fine. xDiskExpandspace is utter garbage. I have formatted my card over twenty times, cleaned it, restarted my phone - nothing has worked. It will read my card upon starting, but absolutely nothing will be transferred to it. It will say it's been transferred but it never is. However, the final straw came today when, to my joy, it finally seemed to work. That is until I checked the results. Nothing on the card. What's worse was that when xDiskExpandspace was finished 'moving' my photos to the card (or at least saying it was), it was so confident it had succeeded that it had deleted the photos from my phone. I checked my recently deleted photos and files and there was no sign of them. xDiskExpandspace had blown my precious photographs from photoshoots I had taken into oblivion. It's going to be a long day explaining to my clients that I no longer have their photos. xDiskExpandspace is absolutely garbage. Avoid it with your life. Also, in case anybody is wondering, I'm on the latest iOS version at the time of writing this (13.5.1).

Using the “Files” app you can move your downloads to the xDisk app with no copying wasting time or space. It’s really essential when you downloaded something 30gb.

The drawbacks are you can’t organize a SD card properly. If you want to move something to a different folder it copies and then deletes. That’s using the move option! Also you can’t background video just to listen to it. Video dies as soon as you open the switcher, but audio files can be backgrounded. It’s a dumbed down transfer window, that takes and keeps focus. I was using another device and app, that did not have “Files” support, it showed progress in actual data sizes, you could still do other things in xDiskExpandspace , and you could keep queuing up more moves. So xDiskExpandspace is a let down in actually using xDiskExpandspace compared to what I was used to.

I hope it improves, and I’ll keep updating this review with any changes noticed.

I bought an iPad Pro to do photo work with while traveling. I got this to transfer the photos. The good: it works if you go through your photos 1 at a time and hit save. It also works if you choose about 10. It does NOT work if you choose a lot of photos. It also works to move files to and from the card. It’s sometimes a bit tricky since there’s no file browser. WISH LIST: 1. Screen orientation - currently only works in portrait mode right side up. 2. Bulk transfer - including memory of what’s already been transferred. 3. Better support for transfer of movies. 4. Ability to create albums in the photos and transfer to them (does IOS even do that? Not sure) 5. Faster load times

Needed a way to quickly get my photos from my camera card to my iPhone. Found this and thought it’d be perfect. Linked it all up and it was working just fine, doing exactly what I needed. I went to a photo shoot with the plan to use this device. Plugged it in, opened xDiskExpandspace , useless. There must have been an update of some sort that made the entire device/app useless. I tried to no avail, had a small panic attack because everyone was relying on me, basically I had to cancel the shoot and ruin someone’s wedding. Don’t rely on this. The update to xDiskExpandspace was a huge mistake and someone messed up because now xDiskExpandspace does nothing. I’m furious to say the least. Fix your massive bugs.

The new update improves a lot including a new added features. I’m so happy you listen to our request. Now we can easily transfer photos and video to your sunstrsi tf/video card reader. One of the best feature is ability to transfer from iCloud save photos to your card reader.

Kindly please add support to import photos or video from some apps to xdisk please. For example: import video from filmic pro to xdisk would be nice.

xDiskExpandspace worked great last week but doesn’t even open this week. It just opens my iPhone’s file folder now with the words xDisk at the top instead. I use this to read sd cards with my iPhone. Same sd cards last week and the sd cards have photos on them. Like I said xDiskExpandspace doesn’t even open properly because it looks nothing like last week or like the pictures in the preview. I have tried deleting and re-downloaded it twice.

Hello App Developer: Please release an UPDATE that fixes this issue.

This X-disk app used to work great. Now it will not work from my iPad. It will allow me to access xDiskExpandspace , but xDiskExpandspace looks totally different. It will not allow uploads from the WingHome card reader. It doesn’t even recognize that a memory card reader is connected. It still works with a few glitches on the iPhone 8, but not on the iPad, and not on the newer iPhones. Please release an update that fixes this issue as its useless for iPad users as well as newer versions of the iPhone.

I love xDiskExpandspace and external disk reader. I’m currently having a problem with reading a 256gb Sandisk microSD. The video was taken by my Anafi drone and I think it is because the drone separated the files into different directories. I can see the video when I play it from the drone but xDiskExpandspace gets stuck on the “reading” screen. The xDisk flashes blue, once, and then gets stuck. It only happens with the particular SD card from the drone.

So I got a Suntrsi adapter for Christmas last year and xDiskExpandspace and adapter worked wonderfully! Beautiful app and UI, and speedy transfer. Then I updated my app, and now I can’t even use it. All it does is brings up a Files window that can’t even be used. If I wanted to do that, I would’ve just gotten an OTG adapter. At least I can still use the adapter for the USB part with other computers. I’m very disappointed. If you purchased an adapter that uses xDiskExpandspace, and you are going to be using it solely on your iPhone, please return it and search for another product.

I got the accessory and xDiskExpandspace about a year ago and it worked great. There must have been an update though because now xDiskExpandspace is useless and the SD card does not even show up and xDiskExpandspace does not look at all like it used to. The accessory is useless without xDiskExpandspace and now I have to buy another one. I really liked this before the most recent update. Also xDiskExpandspace no longer looks like the pictures shown here.

I would've given this five stars but since the recent update of iOS 14.1 the reader no longer reads with my iPhone which I am saddened by. I have deleted and reuploaded xDiskExpandspace still it doesn't work This device works seamlessly with my iphone prior to the new update. A new update to xDiskExpandspace is needed desperately! I would hate to get rid of this reader and change my star rating😩

Originally was very good way to transfer photos to and from a usb card using Suntrsi card reader. I have version 4.7.6 on my iPhone and it works. When earlier versions were on my iPad they worked. Since version 4.7.7 auto-updated onto the iPad xDiskExpandspace no longer recognizes the card reader. (Same card reader works on iPhone.) I would rate this version of xDiskExpandspace 5 stars if it worked with the card reader. I give it 2 stars because I have hopes the problem will be fixed.

I have been using xDiskExpandspace and file transfer software for a couple of years now. The interface changed recently and I can no longer access photos on my phone. In other words, the device when plugged in no longer reads photos on my phone. This is a big disappointment since I own two of these X disc plug-ins and bought two more for family members with iPhones.

Loved this for about a year & never had an issue with it. My phone had an update & now it no longer reads the memory card. I thought it was the device & got a new one & still the same issue. This saved me as my camera does not have Bluetooth & transferring pictures to the computer & then to storage devices took way too much time. Super disappointed.

I love xDiskExpandspace . Just wished that you could add the ability to transfer files from the iPadOS files app to the flash drive directly. The current solution involves moving files from the source to the xDisk folder under “On My iPad” and then moving the files from xDiskExpandspace to the flash drive. It would be nice to be able to transfer directly from the Files app into the drive directly.

I have been relying on this little gadget and software for almost a year to quickly transfer photos from my DSLR to my iPad and iPhone. Works well for what it’s intended to do. I don’t use any of the other software features other than transfer, so my rating is specifically based on my needs and use of only the download feature.

It worked fine before so I went on xDiskExpandspace after a while to see my old files and I get and notification saying to update xDiskExpandspace for “bug fixes” but after I updated it, it change to the generic files app and my sd card adapter no longer works on it. I can’t see any of my files on xDiskExpandspace which was what it was made for and idk what to do. If you get an notification to “update” xDiskExpandspace , don’t do it. Just stick to the older version if it’s still usable.

UPDATE: I updated xDiskExpandspace today, but the file list is still not rotated when in landscape mode. The update said it fixed this issue, but that is not my experience.

Also, you do NOT need to ask for my location every time I open xDiskExpandspace ! Accept the user preference to have location services turned off. This is an IMPORTANT item.

I am only able to use in portrait orientation. This is not optimal for an ipad user. The port is on the bottom when in portrait mode, and with the reader in place, there is no way stand the ipad on a surface. My tutorial videos can be viewed in landscape orientation, but as soon as I go back to the list of files, xDiskExpandspace reverts back to portrait. This really should be fixed.

I’m having issues since updating to iOS 14. When I attach my memory card to a device running iOS14, the xDisk app opens as it should, but the new “files” version shows, and doesn’t allow me to choose my external SD card to transfer content. I have an older iOS 13 device that everything still works, and the UX is in it’s older format.

Any advances on when this will be updated, or what I’m doing wrong?

Would it be possible to make it where you can scroll through pictures instead of having to click on one then have to back out and click on another.

The device works with both my iPhone and iPad for viewing and transferring files. But, I can’t seem to charge my devices through the power port.

A bigger issue for me than the power port is that xDiskExpandspace does not change viewing orientation when the device is turned from portrait to landscape (it’s always in portrait mode). Besides it being preferable to view pictures in landscape, it’s also practical because the xDisk adapter sticks out of the bottom of the device and that makes hands free viewing of pictures a challenge.

Originally I tried using an OTG adaptor to view my dashcam video but the Files app just couldn't handle the large videos (~850MB each), the videos either wouldn't play or the entire app would crash, even crashed my phone once. This SUNTRSI adaptor on the other hand works perfectly with xDiskExpandspace, not only does it not crash, it can actually play my videos. It seems that the screen orientation issue I saw in some reviews has been fixed, so this adapter is perfect to supplement with my dashcam.

xDiskExpandspace worked amazingly well until the latest update. Can no longer transfer m4v files from the Suntrsi card reader to the iPhone. The xDisk app states that m4v is a supported format. MP4 files work transfer to the iPhone fine.

If the developer can fix it, I will give it two more stars. It is an excellent app, four stars if they can fix their last update.

August 2018: I need to be able to create text file with .conf extension. Would you please add a fix for it, or more generally, any extension?

Oct 2018: I can’t seem to read USB Micro B? I tried to read a Circuit Playground Express from iPhone. Similarly, can I read USB Type A from Type C and vice versa? I can read Micro SD though from iPhone.

We met in Charleston for a friend’s reunion. I moved my pictures to the Suntrsi drive so they would be easy to transfer to my laptop for editing.

I followed the directions of uninstalling xDiskExpandspace and reinstalling, cleaning my ports, but the drive and app do not work. I tried using USB port to transfer pictures to my MacBook and my PC, but my drive is not recognized by either of my laptops, iPhone, or iPad. I am responsible for creating the reunion video, but my pictures are stuck on a flash drive inaccessible to me.

It does not import to SD card from iPhone I have tried multiple recording apps and multiple formats and does not functioning properly. The file sometimes gets listed but shows that it is 0mb large for all the files I batch uploaded, the write does are horrendous which it doesn't give a progress bar and with a class 10 SDHC card it still is unable to perform tasks associated with 4k.

There are still error codes that are in Chinese so you can't even troubleshoot to the developer even if you tried

I bought the xDisk to transfer large files back and forth between my iPad Pro and PC. xDiskExpandspace and device work as advertised. I was able to transfer 20GB worth of videos to the device for watching on my iPad while killing time.

Card reader was working great until I upgrading to latest version. Now my iPhone and iPad does not see the card reader at all. I deleted the and and re-installed and re-started my iPhone with no luck. I saw where the previous version was suggested however, there is no indication where to find and download the previous versions. Now I’m looking for a replacement...

This is the first app/SD adapter that consistently works for me. The other I’ve tried randomly disconnect, and it takes forever to get files transferred. The interface could use some improvement, such as providing more file information, folder sizes, etc. But overall, it’s the best app/adapter combo I’ve tried.
