Almost..

StumbleUpon needed to be redone. It was designed to an older style of internet and honestly couldn’t keep up when websites started to flood in. Mix managed to make a more streamlined process for a wider variety and more organized system of websites but lacks any real usability. Isn’t an intuitive app. The explore/share/profile tabs are just strange choices. Share and profile aren’t pages, they’re options and settings. So nest “share” within each post as just a share button.. and profile should just be hidden in the top corner somewhere. Your explore page needs to be redone as well. Why do I have to view by specific interests? Why isn’t there just an endless way to scroll once I’ve set my interests? The way you introduce catagories was strange as well. “Science”?? And then if you select one of this vague topics and later check your subcategories, it breaks it out into tiny subcategories like nasa and psychology.. but those are vastly different. Maybe make the bottom tabs “explore” (to just scroll and have an algorithm slowly learn what people like and recommend new categories to like) and another tab called “topics” or “genre” “categories” whatever. Maybe a 3rd way to view too. Definitely keep the list/grid option in explore. Anyways still better than stumbleupon so I definitely plan on continuously using MixExpandyourmind , I just wish it didn’t fight me

Yet another failed attempt to fix something not broken

StumbleUpon was a great app that was simple and to the point. You pick categories, you press a button, you read an article that was it. Mix has somehow found a way to complicate this process. From the non descriptive category list to the multiple clicks needed to read an article it is a poor replacement for what was a great platform in StumbleUpon. From what I can see there is no way to view a list of all available categories which is frustrating because all they provide is what is suggested to you based on what your initial category selection was at the time of sign up. This means no discovering new topics or branching out into different interest from time to time. MixExpandyourmind focuses to much on the social media aspect and in my opinion caters only to people who are avid social media users. For some like myself, the ease of use and privacy of StumbleUpon as well as its content driven nature were its biggest draws. All I want to do is find interesting things to read when using MixExpandyourmind and Mix has taken that simple process away. Very disappointed to see StumbleUpon go and will be deleting Mix immediately. Shame on whoever thought this change would be a good idea, as this is a perfect example of when change is not for the better.

I MISS STUMBLEUPON!

It seems like MixExpandyourmind is all about social media- like everything else these days. I’m not reading articles with the intention of sharing them with anyone, my intention is to LEARN. I’m not trying to “get connected” with others when I’m trying to learn more about my interests. If I wanted to share an article, I’d simply text them the link. And so many of the categories are just pop culture/trends/unneeded things I’m trying to AVOID when trying to expand my knowledge with REAL things.

But what I miss MOST is StumbleUpon’s algorithm of voting up or down for each article, so they tailor what articles to send you even more (or less of). It was what I LOVED SO MUCH about StumbleUpon. The more you used it, the better articles you got catered towards you specifically. And now, if you want to save something, you have to put it in a “collection”... why do we need to go through all this trouble? I miss the simplicity of just hitting the save button. I don’t want to have to name my favorite articles, it takes way too much time and effort, and discouraged me from wanting to save anything. It makes me want to write to the founders of StumbleUpon to say “please come back! We miss you!” Because judging by the reviews, I’m not the only one who feels this way.

A huge step backwards

Radically fewer interests to choose from and more limited content. Doesn’t provide anything I can’t get from other social media platforms. Be more like the StumbleUpon original.

MixExpandyourmind provides you with much less personalized content and potential for discovery than StumbleUpon. Why the transition from StumbleUpon to Mix would result in such a dramatic loss in interests to follow is unclear. The simplicity of StumbleUpon’s one click button for curated content that is both wide in breadth and effectively targeted based on interests is gone. Mix doesn’t offer anything most social media platforms already offer. I can get articles regarding specific topics easily from a host of social media platforms. What StumbleUpon offered was the ability to find a wide range of content with a single click of a button geared toward my interests. Nothing like that on Mix.

Most important is the surprisingly limited range of interests available for selection compared to what StumbleUpon offered. There’s no Philosophy interest page. In contrast, StumbleUpon had not only a Philosophy category, but specific areas of philosophy, like Philosophy of Mind, that could be followed.

A sad huge step back. I’ll be looking for websites and apps that can provide what StumbleUpon offered, but as of now it’s certainly not provided by Mix.

I hope the developers consider this feedback and at the very least expand the range of interests available.

Definitely NOT stumbleupon

Really guys? Stumbleupon was great, simple and I could easily find myself getting lost discovering new sites and cool random info on it till the early hours of the morning. It was awesome!.... and then this?
I never really leave negative reviews.. just don’t feel the need too.. far too many people doing that.. but unfortunately I feel the need to make an exception. Cause this new MIX app really bummed me out... why all the social media BS? Give me a break.. not everyone wants to be linked in to sharing everything with everyone 24/7. This is such a huge disappointment.. I’d like to give it more of a chance.. but it’s really just not worth it...
It took all of 20 mins trying it out to realize, despite my efforts to try... this was in no way close to as enjoyable to use or as good as SU.. and I now feel that was 18 mins too long.
What a shame... Why did you have to change a good thing?

Great alternative to social media mindless scroll syndrome

If you need a social media break but still want something interesting to consume this is definitely MixExpandyourmind . It’s so nice to not have a comment section! As you scroll through really interesting, beautiful and insightful content, you can just admire or learn instead of seeping in the drama of the comment section! To devs: Please don’t ever put in a comment section!

Please bring back StumbleUpon

I’ve never reviewed an app before but I feel strongly enough about this one to write a review. The interface, navigation and user experience of SU are effective, simple and make you want to keep browsing for hours. Interests and categories were easy to find and made sense. On Mix for example why do my interests have US Congress and White House? I certainly didn’t select them on SU, maybe the category was politics? Why are history and in olden days two separate categories? This is quite frustrating. Also i haven’t found very interesting content on Mix plus I hate having to click to go to a different page to view content - SU had it on the same page and it didn’t require multiple clicks - maybe it’s the reason I haven’t stayed long enough to find interesting content on Mix that may actually be there.

This is nothing like StumbleUpon

I really enjoyed StumbleUpon and was excited to see they were going to do a new app. Unfortunately I was disappointed.
I do not like this at all. The user interface is clunky and hard to navigate I can’t figure out how to get categories that I like. Actually I can’t really find anything of interest.
It seems the only choices for categories are the generic ones that are offered. The whole point of stumble upon(for me anyway) was that I could just skim through a bunch of different websites and discover things that I may not have otherwise discovered, or I could stumble through any one of my, often off-the-wall, interests. With Mix The interests are too generic. No thought was given to The fact that stumble upon felt limitless. There was no telling what you were going to come across.

Why the change?

I’ve never written a review but stumble upon was always my go to. It has been my favorite app and website for information and entertainment for years! Stumble upon was easy to use and had a lot more of diversity. Mix is simply filled of articles that I can find on the internet. Stumble upon had millions of articles, short stories, infographs, picture, videos, etc. I loved stumble upon because I wasn’t just reading article upon article. I was extremely upset when they made the switch and lost all of h accumulated knowledge that I save OVER 3 YEARS!! This upset me the most. Mix is boring compared to stumble upon and none of the features has been transferred over to mix such as the array of learning abilities that was offered on stumble upon. Please bing stumble upon back!!!

To the bad reviews

I remember the days of StumbleUpon, and it was amazing! But I agree with a comment below; creating stumbleupon for a mobile setting is extremely difficult when a lot of those old websites were desktop sites. The internet used to be more creative and the (unfortunate) limitations of mobile just didn’t exist at that time.

So on to the reason for my good review! I am trying to spend less time on Facebook and Instagram, but I would still like to “scroll” through a feed and seek out inspiration for art and design, and wellness tips along with thought-provoking pieces.

So MixExpandyourmind definitely fits the bill for me! It’s not the same as StumbleUpon but StumbleUpon was nearly impossible to create in this new digital age! That’s just how the cookie crumbles.

But yes if you’re looking for an app that provides inspiration and interesting ideas to pull you away from the drama on social media, this is the one for you!

Edit: I’m really disappointed in MixExpandyourmind update. It’s just like TikTok now. Unfortunately I’m going to be uninstalling. Like I said above I actually LOVED MixExpandyourmind. Now I hate it.

Where did my articles go?!

I really enjoyed using MixExpandyourmind for finding articles related to my interests. Especially parenting as I figure out this being a parent thing. I did notice a bunch of the articles were from a few years ago, but they were still useful. And then I guess MixExpandyourmind updated and all of that was gone! There was no new intro to explain the changes just videos nothing to do with my interests.
What a sudden and abrupt change. Absolutely disappointing. Good luck with your new approach. I'm out.

Edit - saw a developer response on a similar review. Hidden in the For You settings you can choose the content. It was decided for me that I only wanted pics, gifs, and vids and not articles. When the exact opposite was true.
How about you ask that at the restart? Terrible roll out. I may stick around for a bit but I doubt for long.

Edit 2 - I saved all my likes (only had a handful), swiped through a bit of the new format. It’s all clickbait and mindless content - which I was trying to get away from. I just deleted MixExpandyourmind . Peace.

Completely Awful!

I used StumbleUpon off and on for years. It had been a long time since I last logged in, and as the email I used for my StumbleUpon was my old email that I don’t use anymore, I didn’t see the email announcing that StumbleUpon was moving to Mix (and now that I’ve accessed that old email I see that I was only given a month’s notice before the switch).

I logged in A MONTH too late to have my StumbleUpon account transferred. A MONTH! Now all of my likes pages are gone and I’m devastated. That’s where I got all of my cool art that I used for backgrounds.

I tried to use Mix but it’s nothing like StumbleUpon. Why in God’s name would someone buy out a website to delete all of the accounts and totally change it?? Evil.

I miss stumbleupon

Deleted after one day. It just doesn’t work like stumbleupon used to. For example, twice I’ve come across the same image titled “Bondage” which depicts a nude woman from behind tied tight with ropes. WHY AM I SEEING THIS. First tag was #aesthetics with I did NOT choose to follow when setting up MixExpandyourmind for the first time. The second tag was #photography. This is not the kind of photography I want to see, and again I didn’t choose to follow this tag! I already gave that image a thumbs down too so why am I seeing it again? So strange. Stumbleupon made sense and was so much fun. This is a sloppy, cheap attempt to be similar. I used to always recommend stumbleupon but will do the opposite with Mix.

Really missing Stumble Upon

Edit: All of the good reviews from MixExpandyourmind were made over a year ago. Any that were made recently were clearly done by people who worked on MixExpandyourmind and their friends/family.....

I have more than 15 interests selected and the only two it ever shows me is health stuff and food stuff which are two topics I’ve never even opened articles from on Mix. The content is boring, it requires multiple clicks to view the articles and I am overall very disappointed in MixExpandyourmind . I lost so many amazing things I had collected in Stumble Upon and apparently have no hope in ever finding again through Mix. Do yourself a favor and find a different “bored” app.

Couldn’t even tell you

I’d like to tell you how I feel about the actual app itself, however, due to the complete lack of customer support, I cannot even get that far. I have used stumbleupon for years, always logged into MixExpandyourmind on my phone, so of course I forget my password. I’ve gone through multiple attempts at trying to reset my password through email.. in which the rep provides me with a “new password” to sign in with... and every. Single. One. Has given me incorrect password errors. I cannot even create a new account because my email is already signed up. But, based on reading latest reviews, I’m better off at deleting it completely anyway. Sorry.

Good and the bad

When I knew MixExpandyourmind it was about finding articles about topics you enjoyed and not an app that is TikTok 2.0. I like the article aspect of MixExpandyourmind and would love to see it added back. I feel like that couldn’t be that hard. Could be something never done before. I like how you can actually pause the video and rewind whenever.

My favorite app ever!

The best way to waste time and actually learn something in the process! Once MixExpandyourmind understands what I want to see by giving it feedback, I have gotten so much great information about things I never would’ve even known existed to help me with my new business!

Awesome!!!

Not the same

I’ve used stumbleupon for years and to say I’m disappointed with this change is a understatement. Stumbleupon was a easy app and site to use, and the categories of interests were specific and there were very many. It was the only website i found where i could browse thousands of articles about specific things with out actually having to do much digging into wiki and redirecting to other sites. Mix has a very limited interest list and honestly doesn’t seem very user friendly. Stumbleupon was probably the best app i ever downloaded, and so many people enjoyed it. Why change it??

I miss stumble upon, this is awful

You would have thought this would have been an upgraded version of stumble upon. It is, in fact, a down grade. BY A LOT. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried to figure my way around it. Which was entirely too hard... no way for it to analyze your likes and dislikes. I can’t figure out how to go back to the actual page where it’s showing posts. I said I was interested in animals and it showed me articles involving animal abuse??? That’s sick. I’m so disgusted by MixExpandyourmind. I miss stumble upon. Maybe they have another app that’s simiLar, but as for this one. No way, dude. It’s terrible.

Blah

I don’t write many app reviews because most of the time if I don’t like an app, I just delete it. However, this is a special case because StumbleUpon has been a website I have held very near and dear to my heart since I was a teenager. I wanted to like MixExpandyourmind and get used to it. But I just can’t. With stumbleupon, I could sit on it for hours of entertainment and discovery. But in MixExpandyourmind, I just find drab articles that don’t even seem to be within the interests I chose. Not to mention, none of my preferred interests I had on stumbleupon are on Mix. I’m really sad to see stumbleupon go. I will forever miss the weird, creative world it gave me.

Absolutely horrible

MixExpandyourmind is absolutely horrible compared to StumbleUpon. This is an app that is too focused on social media and sharing with your friends and what they share with you. There is no way to like or dislike something so it changes your interests algorithm as you give your opinion on things that you see or read. It’s a very horrible user interface and all it is is articles, as opposed to StumbleUpon which had interactive websites and simulators and music spaces to discover new music. The descriptions of the interest so you can pick is very nondescript and bland, it is such a broad one cents or less description that doesn’t really give a very specific and detailed explanation of the subject of that interest. All it is is a grid of articles, nothing more, nothing less. This is one of the worst apps I have ever seen since ever owning a cell phone. Whoever thought leaving StumbleUpon for this BS was better, was competent and extremely wrong!!! I would give MixExpandyourmind no stars if I could! To summarize: horrible UI,just a grid of articles, completely social media oriented and gauged,no like/dislike buttons,no algorithm to process your likes/dislikes and to learn from them, just grids of articles and “interests” like many social media platforms out there,no fun at all (unlike StumbleUpon) and just an all around horrible experience.

This app has an agenda

After browsing Mix for a few days, I discovered this: regardless of what interests you choose to view, MixExpandyourmind finds articles specifically pertaining to social justice. At least 1/3 articles is about sexism in the workplace, sexism in Silicon Valley, sexism in memes for God’s sake. Great app for killing time, especially if you want to endlessly be directed to articles about how The Patriarchy has made the world uninhabitable.

Update: after continuing to use MixExpandyourmind on and off for months, it is apparent that they never post new content. All “stumbling” does is take me to pages I’ve already seen. MixExpandyourmind is beyond lazy garbage.
