Becker Accounting for Empires™ Reviews

I LOVE BeckerAccounting for studying and reinforcing concepts. I do wish the questions were unlimited in sections or you could choose the number of questions to answer. F1 M1 has 49 questions and sometimes I don’t have time to answer 49 questions. It would be nice if candidates could choose the number, and possibly see new MCQs instead of the same 49 over and over again. I like the personalized review sessions on the Becker website, but that has not been made available on any mobile application yet. Still super fun to drill MCQs this way though!

Needs a mini game or something addictive like bubble pop….

I “played” this religiously while studying for the audit portion of the CPA and it was perfect for drilling MCQ’s without the stress of sitting at the desk or in front of the computer. I was able to spend an extra 20 minutes after a study session relaxing in bed and just playing on my phone.

Currently, I am studying for FAR, and it is still great for conceptual questions, but I can’t get through enough questions that are conceptual-based over math-based. Obviously, FAR is 90% math, but I really would like the option to specifically “play” with only conceptual or light-math.

While calculating the unamortized portion of a bond in year 8 isn’t really practicable to do on the tiny calculator provided, I would like to have questions related to whether it’s a discount or a premium being amortized, etc.

Love BeckerAccounting overall, but just a suggestion for really taking advantage of what it could offer for us future CPA’s!

I like the idea of turning studying into a game. I have found I study more due to BeckerAccounting than I did without it. On the other hand, it could use some improvements. About half of the time I get a question wrong and I want to see the explanation, BeckerAccounting crashes. I find it frustrating that I can not view the explanation because I am not able to learn from it. Maybe they will have an app update that fixes that.

Complaints/review-
1. My friend and I sent each other friend requests. Neither of us received the other’s request. Social aspect needs development and would be a big improvement for us competitive folks out there.
2. FAR is my first exam, thus I have only been playing using FAR questions. I imagine this “game” will be more efficient for AUD where MCQs are more conceptual.
3. Occasionally MCQ question text and choices do not align with the space provided.

Overall good idea, I’m using it, but would give a much better rating if they made some simple developments! For goodness sake Becker costs like $3000 and they don’t even provide good audio notes.... Atleast fix the game haha

It is a perfect application to study when you are commuting and you can review all MCQ, although some of them does not adapt to the small screen, resulting in a crop. Consequently some important information to answer some question are missing because it is on the part that was cropped.

This game is worth the money for becker over wiley (my firm provided me with both). It has some glitches here and there, but this is a great way to engage with the material and keeps you thinking outside of the normal study atmosphere.

This game is very helpful for learning CPA exam questions. The religion helps to make these questions easier and the explanations are thorough.

Great tool to supplement confidence with strengths and weaknesses.

I asked for customer support and they never got back to me. I have sent many emails to different customer support employees and no one has gotten back to me. It’s been 3 months since I’ve had this issue with BeckerAccounting .

I can’t get past the login and from reading reviews this seems to be a frequent issue.

I’m not sure why, but I’m not able to log in or set up a profile. Can someone assist?

I need help resetting my password. I didn’t see another way to contact.

Seem antiquated just from the login

If you're like me and get bored studying and staring at traditional layouts of homework and review, then this game is great for you. I've been sitting for the exams back to back so practicing the MCQ on the original Becker layout got boring quick.
This game provides an incentive for you to keep studying, plus what you complete during the mini games is recorded on your Becker account (for full version, not demo). Nothing too fancy, but it's a great alternate and no other review course has something "game" related.

I find it amusing that Becker has gone out of its way to make studying for the CPA exam more pleasant. I was a huge fan of Age of Empires when I was younger, but I find that the rewards or achievements from this game are nowhere near as satisfying as conquering another empire. The questions are similar to that of the Becker study material, but I found that the questions are much, much easier. I don't understand the point of gaining the "knowledge" points in this game. And although I do have an account with Becker, I'm unable to gain access to the Multiplayer features because "Demo versions" are unable to access them. Tighten up the game play, use the exact same questions from the material (I checked out the REG questions, for example), and make the game more competitive. I can see myself playing this frequently once these improvements have been made.

Upsides: I'm competitive and as a result, I answer more questions per day than if I just studied on my own.

Needs improvement: the font on an iPhone is really really small, best suited for an iPad, although it seems to crash on my iPad mini 1st edition. The introduction walk through is time consuming and would be better if it gave the option to skip. Challenges are limited to those around you in ranking. I'm currently ranked #1 and I can only challenge the people ranked #2 and #3. Unfortunately, (or for them fortunately), I think 2 and 3 have tested and passed the exam because they no longer play. I challenge, no one accepts, and it times out.

Still, I love the concept and it's about as fun as one could make studying.

BeckerAccounting is great for refreshing your memory on various topics. Explanations of each question really help you stay sharp. The only thing I would suggest is getting rid of the required waiting time between gold conversions, espionages, challenges, etc. as it only serves to frustrate candidates since they now have to wait to redeem themselves after a disappointing result.

Really like the MCQ review aspect. The game aspect is unnecessary and actually a deterrent.

Would prefer to have the MCQs as flashcards. If the wrong answer is selected (or the user manually marks the question for review), the question goes back into the que of the next five cards (versus the end of the que) so that it is reviewed timely. Also, the possible answers would be re-scrambled.

Would also like the above feature available for desktop/laptop.

My questions aren't loading in the game. It just has a spinning loading symbol. Is anyone else having this issue?? If the questions won't load, how am I supposed to earn points?

I love the concept. Growing up playing Civ3 and Age of Empires, BeckerAccounting is basically Clash of Clans for Accountants. Correct multiple choice answers gives you resources.

Really needs more investment though. Some core suggestions:

Gamification Improvement:
- the ability to exit mini games half-way without answering all of the MCQs.
- the ability to set ahead of time how many MCQs you want to answer.
- the integration of MCQs with which types of questions and topics the user needs to review most (based on their Becker studying overall).
- the ability to set a mix of MCQ topics

Interface Improvement:
- better interface for MCQs screen. Text is small, and hard to read.
- better chat and invitation feature for other users
- better support

I have already answered more questions trying to achieve things in this game than homework questions I've done through Becker's main app/website. This is going to help me pass my last two sections more than anything else.

So far the demo seems like this is a pretty good way to study and take a break from CPA review. The questions are exactly the same as the ones I have been going through in the review course. It could use a few improvements like telling you how many questions you have left on mini games, but overall seems like a good interactive tool for studying!

This is a fun and creative way to study. In response to a previous user, there’s now an option to toggle the font size to make the questions a little bigger.

I love this so much!

I have an iPhone 10 with the most current iOS operating system. I have downloaded this game twice to my phone and the game screen flashes erratically and gives me a headache. I don’t know how anyone can get passed the first step to even play the game if this is a common issue. Would’ve loved to try it out but can’t handle the flashing screen.

This is actually a very cool app that Becker made to try and make studying for the CPA exam a little more fun.. if that's possible. I really like BeckerAccounting however, they currently only have questions for the Audit section.
