I have used the free version MSecure for many years. I don’t begrudge the company for making a pro version with more features, but they seemed to have pushed out some of the basic features into the pro version to force you to upgrade. If these features had always been on the pro version I would understand, but they started out free to draw in new customers and then were moved up after the app gained more recognition
You used to have the ability to create an email backup and automatic sync was a pro feature. This was a bit slow and clunky, but it was nice in the event something happened with my phone. Now all backups are a pro feature and when my wife and I bought new phones this weekend we were left high and dry without any way of backing up our data. Actual quote from this weekend, “Sorry Wife, the app that we have used for years has decided to put the free version of backing up our data behind a paywall and I didn’t notice so our options are to spend $30 right now or just lose the data.” Thanks for that argument.
Next feature that is missing is the biometric login. I had touch login on my previous phone, but after upgrading to the iPhone 11 it is now locked behind a $30 paywall. I understand you get more “features” for that $30 than just the biometric login, but why is that a pro feature in the first place? There are tons of apps out there where it is a basic feature so charging money for it seems like a money grab.

So just to set expectations, I’ve used MSecure since version 4. When I was forced to upgrade to v5, I decided to reward the company with some money for a good product and purchased their “pro” membership for $30. I believed they had earned it. Unfortunately this company’s greed knows no bounds. Now they have created a new version (again, which their app forced me into an upgrade of) and dropped the $30 pro membership off the map. They now offer a “premium” subscription (monthly or yearly) if you want to keep same features you had previously. They claim pro membership keeps everything they had (and gets more) but it’s a lie.
Here’s just one example. In v5, you had ability to assign a password entry to a “group”, to better organize your passwords. I have a group for my utilities logins, for example. Groups were a “pro” feature, if I recall correctly. In v6, they’ve taken away groups and replaced them with “tags” which can be added to password entries (now called vaults). The only problem??? Tags are one of the paywall-blocked features in their new premium subscription model. So in their greed to make more money, they are taking away features already paid for unless you agree to their subscription.
I’ll be moving on to a different product and no longer will support these money grubbers. I advise all of you new to this to do the same.

Here is the security issue with this new version. You MUST create an account to unlock your secure info and that account is cloud based. So Right out of the gate you send your master password to Msecure/cloud. I created a test account and then disabled my phone connection to cell service and WiFi and tried to change the master password and guess what happened - a message that says I must connect to the cloud to change my password. For this reason and only this reason I'm giving one star. Not good Mseven Software, not good. Oh, and before the developer response telling us how secure their cloud service and website are, just remember everyone is hackable. A company responsible for passwords, what a nice target that would be for a bad guy. And what if they had a court order to give up our passwords how do you think that would play out. The bottom line is, once it’s out there it’s not under your control. Having said that, I love their old offline version!
