Good On You

I stumbled across GoodOnYou quite by accident. They’re well-researched, and after doing my own analysis on a dozen brands and comparing the results, I trust their summaries and refer to them like a dictionary of sorts. If you search up your favorite brands like I did, heaven only knows what you’ll find (be prepared to go through the 7 stages of grief & don’t get stuck in denial). Incredibly, with the collection of “good” & “great” small ethical businesses on here, you can easily amass a collection of clothing brands that align with your style AND morals (please remember not to buy more than you need and to shop secondhand).

Never have I been more impressed with an app, I’ve recommended it to everyone close to me & have referenced it on my socials. Oftentimes, I get frustrated with adults who tell me my generation will fix their problems, but with resources like this, i think we’re capable. Thank you.

A few recommendations:
-this might just be an issue for my phone, but i can’t seem to unfollow a business. This makes it difficult to organize brands (maybe some people would like brand folders too?)
-a ‘local’ search option or listing where each brand is based would be fantastic, but it’s a small issue as some have it in their summaries and if i’m interested it’s only a quick google search.

Amazing

Never going to delete GoodOnYou. Recently I’ve become very involved in the genocide of Uyghur Muslims, including how many companies are using forced Uyghur labor (Nikes, Victoria’s Secret, Zara, etc). And I’ve started boycotting companies that haven’t cut all ties with using forced Uyghur labor, but it opened my mind to the fact that many other clothing brands I love could use forced labor as well, just not specifically that of the Uyghurs, which is still absolutely unacceptable. So after coming across GoodOnYou in an add, I downloaded it. And it’s phenomenal. It tells you exactly why a company isn’t ethical, whether that be because of lack of living wages or environmental damages, and it also tells you which ones are good and ethical. Just wish some the brand suggestions it gives are more trendy and suited for younger people. But other than that, it’s great. :)

Wonderful But There Should Be Some Fixes

Hi I am a newly found well not so newly found
13 year old Climate Advocate and Activist!
I am also coming in to other activist areas in my life🙂🌍🌎🌏🪱🐝🦋🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✌️✊🏿

So GoodOnYou has been very helpful to me in so many different ways it is made me feel strong and informed and it’s an amazing place/app to start and get more informed and then branch out.

Another thing that is so wonderful about GoodOnYou is it there are so many wonderful articles that I have read that are amazingly really informational and great suggestions I do love that aspect of GoodOnYou almost more than some of the others.💜

One of the things that does bother me though is that there is not more specific place filters for instants I live near North Carolina and more specifically in the Virginia area I cannot find many things that are actually in my area which is kind of hard for me I do have places in my area that I’ve already found but it would be nice to be able to find more.

I love what you were doing with it and the amount of time that you take into this but I would love to see some improvement and some range in the more specific places allow in the filters.

Thank you so much for hearing me out and have a lovely day.💜💙💚💛🧡❤️💖

PS
thank you Emma Watson

Great app, could use a few improvements

As someone who has just begun educating themselves on fast fashion, this is a great app. However I think it could use some improvements. It would be great if the information on GoodOnYou about brands is cited, as I would like to know where information comes from, and just do more research. Relating a bit to that, it’d be great if the reviews were updated more often, I know some reviews of brands haven’t been updated in over a year, and in that time brands can change their policies. Lastly, it’d be really great if there were links to these brands websites within GoodOnYou , it would just make things a lot easier! These are just a few suggestions, but they would be really helpful in improving GoodOnYou .

Poor

I have analyzed many of the ratings of GoodOnYou and researched into what the creators of GoodOnYou stand for and came to the conclusion that over 90% of them are not being heard. GoodOnYou crashes very often, it takes you to safari when the information should be shown in GoodOnYou , the filters are not accurate, over a dozen stores/brands are not listed in GoodOnYou, does not cater to vegans, and brands are not being researched on a regular basis to name a few. For the zero waste, health and animal conscious people aware of there carbon footprint, we look to apps like this to tell our friends about so they can have an easier transition into our lifestyle. GoodOnYou makes it frustrating for everyone and the users voices are not being heard. I see comments form the creators thanking us for our input from, over a year ago, but nothing is being done. I’m disappointed to say the least

Love the idea, incredibly disappointed in functionality

I want to be able to search by price level. That’s pretty much it. Just show me all of the companies in a given price range so I can see how they stack up and choose from there - I’m sure there are many affordable, relatively-ethical brands that I could actually afford but am missing. If I could also cross it with standards, ie cheap brands with an “it’s a start” rating overall, or specifically with a good labor rating, I’d know exactly where to shop. GoodOnYou is set up only for categories of clothing, which is kind of useless. I shop from stores that carry every category. Additionally, the similar brands suggestions aren’t at all similar. I heard about this on NPR and downloaded it as soon as I got home. Very disappointed in this huge gap, but three stars for a great idea, thorough research, and accessible summaries.

App Suggestion - Junior Category Search

I recently got GoodOnYou for my daughter (10) because she is getting into fashion and I wanted her to learn how to be responsible with her purchases, not just financially but ethically as well. We do a lot of second-hand shopping and aren’t very familiar with clothing stores. We were hoping GoodOnYou would expand her shopping options. While searching GoodOnYou I found we were finding a lot of stores that just sold adult clothing and my daughter was losing interest because she was having to go through so many searches before she found a company selling Junior clothes. It would be AMAZING if, in the category section, there were the options: Womens, Mens, Juniors, and Kids.

Amazing idea w/ a few glitches

GoodOnYou is amazing! It makes it so much less daunting to shop ethically. My favorite feature is when you search for brands to see their ethical rating, you can just press a button to send a prewritten or personalized letter to the company expressing concerns about their lack of responsibility in their sustainability. So cool! I would give GoodOnYou 5 starts immediately if it were not for a few occasional glitches and the far more annoyingly frequent crashing of GoodOnYou itself. It crashes so frequently it is almost impossible to do anything.

Best, and Only, App of It's Kind

My go-to app for quick audits of sustainable, ethical fashion brands and advice. I have been using this on a weekly basis for years. They give you the breakdown of manyyy fashion brands by rating them based on labour statistics, use of animal products, and environmentally sustainable policies. I am able to perform my own in depth research based off of their findings. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this database. They also post articles on various topics within the fashion industry, from which I've learned a great deal. It's difficult to filter through all of the information (and misinformation) out there, making a site like this absolutely necessary.

I never write reviews & this app is worth one.

I've had a smartphone for a decade and have never written an app review until now. As someone who seeks out vegan and fair trade clothing, GoodOnYou is so useful. The fashion industry is traditionally notorious for is questionable labor practices and environmental ethics. But GoodOnYou shows that there are so, so many clothing companies that do right by the planet, people, and animals.

Yes, the brands in GoodOnYou leans heavily towards "womenswear" (I wrote that word in quotes, since I believe people of all genders can wear whatever they want.) However, people of all genders can use GoodOnYou and find a store, label, brand with a style that suits them!

Changing the World

GoodOnYou is a remarkable step towards a more ethical and ecologically focused future. Ever since I got GoodOnYou, I’ve stopped supporting brands that I used to know and love that aren’t good or great. It’s eye opening to see that some brands who have been around for many years don’t care to be ethical but have the profit to. GoodOnYou is incredible, but I would love to see an option for a master list of We Avoid, a master list of Not Good Enough, a master list of It’s a Start, a master list of Good, and a master list of Great brands so that I don’t miss out on anything. Anyway, thank you for your efforts and GoodOnYou is seriously changing the world.

I want to love it but...

Update: it’s been four months. Your app still keeps crashing. Why? Why can’t you just make this d*** app WORK? You went through all the trouble of a rebrand and for what? It’s useless in its current state. It crashes EVERY TIME I HIT THE BACK BUTTON. You’re just...ignoring us.
———
GoodOnYou constantly crashes. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing but it just yeets itself in the middle if use. It also constantly logs me out, loads very slowly, and it’s just a mess. I love the work GoodOnYou is focused on but you need a different development team because your actual app is the pits. Very disappointed that it constantly seems to be like this. I don’t get it. Also PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get Emma Watson off of the home screen. I’m sick of seeing her. I don’t give a rat’s backside about celebrities this is super annoying.

Easy to navigate, and simple, powerful tools.

As a non-vegan, this seems to be a very good app. Doesn’t restrict shopping options too much when leaving animal options at a high level, but other settings are maxed. Haven’t experimented with vegan settings. Doesn’t have reviews of some regional providers, but has a very large selection of online retailers. Also, as a nice touch, when a shop isn’t in the database, it immediately prompts you to suggest it to GoodOnYou . Don’t know how often it’s updated, but I’m optimistic. Overall, very pleased with GoodOnYou.

Love it, but…

I love having the ability to see which brands are more sustainable and ethical. This part of GoodOnYou is great, and I have no problems with it. However there is a huge problem with how prices are rated.
Many of the stores that are listed as cheap are pretty expensive for the average person in my opinion. In a lot of stores, t-shirts are $30 and sweatshirts can go up to $60. Some will sell a singular scrunchie or hairband for $15+. These prices are not at all cheap and should not be listed as such. For reference, I would consider $10-15 for a shirt to be cheap, maybe even less. Please take this into consideration.

Good idea, but lacking information

I love the idea of GoodOnYou, getting people more aware of how they are truly shopping is important. I think that the brands should be researched more regularly though. The last updated information for some major brands is from a year ago which is a lot of time for brands to change. I see brands changing initiative or not sticking to it very often so I think it’s important to continue checking up on these things. I’m sure there’s also more information on brands out there. Overall really great idea for an application, I love the regular posts with great information! Just hope this is a reliable source.

Great first step!

So far in using GoodOnYou, I only have great things to say about it. I’ve been very serious about shopping sustainably and making sure the brands I buy from are ethical in their practices, but it was difficult to look up companies on the fly. With GoodOnYou, you can see a simple breakdown of the steps companies have taken to make their products sustainable, if they pay employees a living wage, if they test or use animals in any way, and a few other categories. Take a look and see for yourself!

Bad user interface

GoodOnYou comes from a wonderful website. The idea behind it is amazing. However, the user interface is not good. The filters only partially work. For example, if I want to search for affordable men’s activewear, only some of the filters work for this. GoodOnYou will show me clothing that is within my price range, but that’s it. Activewear? No. Men’s clothing? Maybe. GoodOnYou will offer me plenty of clothing companies that only make women’s clothing. This is very frustrating.

By

Love the idea behind it!

I’ve been playing around with GoodOnYou and I love how transparent they are about how they got to the ratings they give.

Suggestion: I think this would be awesome in a google chrome extension form as well. I, along with a lot of people I know, tend to move over to their computers to purchase things instead of using their phones. (However I’m also not a software developer so I have no idea how difficult this is so I’m sorry if I’m asking for a lot.)

Good app—but expensive and not international

I really appreciate the idea behind GoodOnYou. However, it is really, really hard to find brands in my price range. I think this is primarily not the fault of GoodOnYou, but the industry. (It’s hard to produce clothes that will receive a “good” or “great” rating on GoodOnYou for a marketable price.) That is my main qualm with GoodOnYou , I can’t actually buy anything that I find... Also, it seems that the majority of the stores are in the UK? The prices are all in pounds and I’m guessing shipping to me (US) would be very expensive. I wish I could find ethical stores near me. GoodOnYou is a great start though, I’m really glad it exists.

Great but room for improvement

Love GoodOnYou . I haven’t experienced any crashing of GoodOnYou or such. Somethings I’d hope they update in the near future;
The format seems a bit outdated (I would hope they’d update in particular for iPhone X users)
Would love access of blog posts that are only available via the web since GoodOnYou will only allow me to access reviews on specific stores.
Content with GoodOnYou but of course there is always room for improvement.
Xx

This is exactly what I needed

GoodOnYou is EXACTLY what I needed. How many times have I been in Target or wherever feverishly googling every brand I’m trying on to see what its standards are?! This is amazing.

I only hesitate to give 5 starts because GoodOnYou itself is still a little start-upish. It glitches a little, and there are some options I would really like to have that just don’t exist yet. But I’m optimistic and excited to see how GoodOnYou grows and expands in the future.

Help us find clothes!

This is a fantastic app. I care deeply about sustainability and about fashion, and GoodOnYou is a great intersection for that. I love that I can look up specific brands and see the rating for them. However, GoodOnYou does not provide many more uses beyond that. The features and articles are great, but the best use for GoodOnYou would be a section where I can browse by price, rating, popularity, and style. GoodOnYou could be a useful tool for finding clothes, but it’s stopping short of that. I’m sure we will see this feature in the future— I’ll be waiting for updates!

Everyone should have this app

In the world we are in now, it would be irresponsible to not be aware of the impact our clothing decisions make on the rest of the world.

I was doing research to find out all this info for myself, and then came across GoodOnYou and I am so so so thankful. I hope GoodOnYou because a huge success and companies finally start taking the problems fast fashion is creating seriously.

Best app ever!!!!

I found this website terrible. There was no basis for the score I read other than that the site had no information. Also it suggested alternative brands which seems unethical? And the alternatives suggested were ridiculous, for eg lingerie when I was looking at a street and surf wear label. Will never use that site again.
