Not worth giving away for free

Look, I don’t write a lot of reviews for apps, but this one just needed it. There are a lot of 5 star reviews for Genesis and I really cannot fathom how. Seriously, how?!

First off, you get two generators for free, all others must be bought, and it seems like the price has dropped over the years based on the older reviews. However, the generators don’t have much thought put into them, every single one is basic and weak. If you’re a hobby type person, this might give some inspiration to get you going, but even that’s not much. Granted, it gives a good amount of info for thought when generating, but beyond that, there are better generators out there for free.

Take, for instance, the fantasy creature generator. The other details on it maybe of some use, not all, but some, when generating something. The names it generates? Completely useless. Most of them are just random words thrown together, everyday words. Which again, might be fine for the hobbyist, but even that’s a stretch. A lot of the names make no sense because they are words thrown together, and when they aren’t actual words, they are jumbled of crap you can’t hardly pronounce and seem based on nothing. Just not worth it, I’m sorry

I’m confused

I used to love using this if I didn’t have any inspiration to write, so I bought a bunch of packs on here. Suddenly a month later, all the packs were gone and had to be paid for again. I checked every single thing it could have been, even the restore purchases, and it said I hadn’t purchased anything. I’ve had to pay twice now and a while back my purchases disappeared again. I don’t know if this is a problem with the algorithm, or if it’s the developers themselves (which I doubt) but I don’t know. With the purchases however, this is an outstanding app!

This made me sad

I’m giving it 2 stars because I really like the concept, but otherwise it was immediately disappointing... Initially I got this simply hoping to have found an easier way other than the apples default “Notes” app to store and work on a world for a game idea because as it grew, the various lore, characters, locations, creatures, items etc quickly snowballed. I decided to check out the “character names” and it opened elsewhere telling me to download a pack; I’m sure I’m nitpicking on this detail but I wasn't a fan.
Most annoying though, was creating a custom- it felt as though the devs got bored halfway through and never finished this function... there is either no way, or no easily accessible way, to edit or even delete content. Literally the ONLY thing you can edit is the rows content (not the name, not the rows existence, positioning)... I’m going to look for a writing app now.

If only more was free

I was so excited to use Genesis as I’ve been wanting to put all of my worldbuilding for my series in one place but was disappointed. I understand that the need to have a profit somehow but only two features are free. I am a college student who doesn’t have too much money so I would have liked there to be more free features. Not all. But more. I think more people would download Genesis if they added more free things. Great concept though.

Way too expensive

Genesis is a good idea in concept but in reality it’s way too expensive with too little features to be worth it. All it does is generate names and general features of planets and towns and such. If this had more customization options or actually generated something other than text, maybe it’d be worth something but even still it wouldn’t be $12! Lower the prices on your generators or at least give us more to start off with.

Found a bug

I really like Genesis , but I found a bug that makes it useless. I created a custom generator and when I saved one of the creations, it won’t let me access it, and worse it won’t let me save any other creations or delete it. I have already spent close to $7.00 on Genesis and would hate to see my money go to waste because of a bug.

Read pls

I really like the concept of Genesis but I want you to make Genesis much cheaper. Or even better make it free but put ads in it. That would be nice. A filter option would make things sooo much easier to find what type of planet or whatever we want, instead of clicking hundreds of times to find something that we like. I hope you consider my review and add the features into Genesis .

High hopes

At first, i was really helped by Genesis , as it allowed me to design and visualize different worlds or planets for my characters. However, after a while i stopped using it because of the massive paywall that blocked the full experience. if you’re going to release a free app, don’t make list of it inaccessible. There are only two things not blocked by paywall, and while they work great, and are useful, the other packs or bundles are unusable without money. Overall a great app, if there were a few improvements on access.

I have a problem with this app

Genesis itself is a very wonderful idea, but there’s one thing about Genesis that I find invigorating. The “generators”. I saw the picture of Genesis, and I thought. “This looks like a cool app, look at how I would be able to make my own towns or cities, countries. But Genesis disables creativity. Sure you can create a planet. Sure. That’s nice. But the fact that you can’t create your own diseases or whatever. I would love to use Genesis for my stories. (Check out SC. “CalebClark”). I love it. It just has a few, a lot, of kinks. I want Genesis to flourish but there is going to have to be some changes. Great app? Or great idea? It all depends on how you handle Genesis .

Needs major improvements

This is a great and especially useful app, but there are a few things that could make every review on this page five stars. First of all, it is way to expensive. Normally, I have no problem with in app purchases but to unlock the full app is over $40. The next thing, though, would be allowing users to customize a character or place themselves so that you do not have to click hundreds of times to find what you are looking for. I hope that you take these ideas under consideration. Whether or not they come to be is perfectly fine, but I will surely use Genesis more often with improvements such as the ones I have previously listed.

Great but...

Honestly it is an amazing app I am not the kind of person who pays for an app but I would pay for not only this generator but the other as well if they were priced sanely Over ten bucks for name generator is kind of mental but still feasible but when it starts to go beyond 20... well I think we all know what I’m thinking.

Glitches on computer

I find Genesis incredibly useful. I bought all the generators on my computer. However recently there has been a glitch that makes it so I cannot see the results.

New stuff

I see you added some new generators and that’s cool however what is not in fact cool is that I lost all the ones I paid for and I cannot restore my purchases so while it’s great I do hope you can manage to fix this issue

Great but not entirely realistic

I love Genesis. It's very fun to use especially with the companion apps. The only issue I have is that it's so random that sometimes the results generated aren't very realistic. That does mean it leaves a lot to the imagination, which is great. But I'm a fan of realism, and a giant planet with low gravity for example is not realistic

Worth it!

So first off all, Genesis is very inexpensive if you’re like me and cannot come up with names for things or different religions or whatever. In that regard, it’s absolutely invaluable. It only cost me $11 to unlock the whole thing and they have everything including character generators, religion generators, war generators, artifact generators, etc. Absolutely worth the money for the extra dose of creativity. Get it and try it. You won’t regret it tbh.

A real help

I’m enjoying Genesis so far. It’s helping me put my ideas into a much better perspective, as well as aiding me in bringing more life into my projects with the tools built into Genesis. This is an idea generator. It’s up to you the artist to build on and alter what you gain from these generated ideas! I bought the full version, and have not been disappointed.

Perfect for world building!

While Genesis is very well made and polished, able to favorite and edit saved entries you've made, what I find very jarring is why you can't rename them, just the names of entries you've saved. You can add, remove, and edit any and all categories, all except Name; that's left completely unchangeable, which I personally don't quite like. If the Name category were able to be changed to our liking in any and all entries to all generators, that would make this neat lil app perfect to use for anyone with a creative itch. Nevertheless I'm giving Genesis five stars anyway because of how meticulously crafted Genesis is. My only complaint is that one little thing. Besides that, a very good app. Keep up the good work!

Good app but...

Good app! But I don't think you should have to pay. Maybe you can make it so that we have to watch a ad for all of them except the planet and solar system generator. If you don't want to, then just use donjon and chaotic shiny.

EDIT: You can also fill in the blank with your ideas.

Great, Understandable price

Some people are complaining about the prices, but it’s not a mega corporation that made this, it’s one guy. You can pay 15 bucks to get everything, and I think it’s a good deal for what it has to offer!

Very helpful and fun!

Been great to help write some short stories and fun to just generate ideas. Well worth the money! Just wish that you could lock certain things you like and generate new items for the rest. But that does not distract from the usefulness.
