Absolutely Phenomenal.

This.
This game is amazing. I am speechless, but at the same time I have so much to say about it.
Everything flowed so well together! I had my doubts about the game-within-a-game thing, but it blended perfectly with the story. It didn’t feel awkward or complicated or forced. I also love how there’s options for your character. You can choose your own race, age, and gender (more than two!) and all the options for these categories are extremely inclusive. It’s great. I also love the humor and interactions between all the characters. They seemed very genuine. The philosophical questions really make you think, and so do all of the choices you are presented with. I have no shame in saying that I thought very hard before choosing anything. The waiting isn’t bad at all, it’s nothing compared to other story games. And the price for premium isn’t unreasonable either. I can tell that a lot of effort was put into the game, and it’s rare to see such a developed story in most games now. I appreciated it a lot. Kudos to the author!

Years later, I’m back

I remember playing this game as a teenager and loving it. I played the James route. It had a great impact on how I thought about games and storytelling.

Now, many years later, I’m a software developer who has built my own video games — nothing very impressive yet but I’m getting there. I decided to revisit this game, and chose Grant this time. Just as satisfying as the first time, and just what I needed to hear as I worked towards creating compelling narratives in my own games.

So, yes, literally a life-changing game. Beware to any young players. You might end up like me, getting so involved in the philosophy that you become a game developer yourself.

Beautiful.

This game is beautiful. The whole experience was so well written. I love this so much! I can’t express how much I love this game. While writing this review, I am struggling to find the right words to express what this game made me feel.

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

The ending. It was... amazing. That feature in the end about choosing different endings was good too, although like the game said, is it really the same ending? The same story even? Whatever interpretation is up to you. Author, thank you. This story gave me joy, and you did a phenomenal job. Thank you for this story, and I hope you continue to create and bring joy to readers.

Lovely and philosophical

As a writer myself, the question about whether tragic endings, satisfying endings, or happy ones are best goes through my mind a lot. And whether a happy one would undermine the value of the emotions conveyed.
I think there is no true answer to those questions, as it might be different person to person, but I like the perspective this game presents. I also love the character development and arguments. Whether or not it’s right to treat a sick person as a motivation for another and such.

It’s important, ya know, to challenge people’s views. It helps humanity grow. And this content does exactly that. I highly recommend this game to anyone in search for a story and to anyone looking for a something to study. As it’s a good example to teach representation and it’s importance in media. As well as the importance of endings. It could also provide reference to how to keep an audience thinking about your work.

Anyways, sorry for the rant, but I do really like this game and I hope the creators see this review.

Beautiful, no questions asked.

This story was absolutely stunning. I was skeptical at first on how one would implement philosophy into a romantic space interactive story, but I was pleasantly surprised at the vast amount of deep, critical thinking that took place in this. Not one word felt artificial or cliche. This was art and knowledge in its purest form. I’ve never been big on romance stories, to me they tend to be cliche or rushed, but this was something more. This wasn’t romantic in a dating way, this story was written with romance for space, and knowledge, and if you wanted, a person. It was so unexpectedly beautiful, and I hope to see more by the writer. Thank you for the incredible experience.

Beautiful

A Beautiful story driven game that Truly makes you feel for your character and does a great job of emerssing you I'm the story. There are an amazing amount of options that make every play through unique and fulfilling. This is a must have game and is truly one of the best reads I've had in a while. If you have plays some of the "choice" games before and liked it this a good one to get to continue the amazing story's in a new and much more beautiful story. If you hasn't played any of their games before this is a great place to start. I can't recommend this game highly enough.
10/10
Thank you to the devs for this amazing experience

Tears

Absolutely loved it I cannot type any words to say how much i loved this Just literal tears as the game finished Wow When a game is good It makes me emotional And for a game to make me emotional Considering i have strict ratings for games ( on my own level ) Its over the top great I swear This game is going to keep me thinking for ages

Update 2024

As embarrassing as that rating is from high school me, for some reason this game/story still holds a place in my phone/ipad. Not sure why I connect to it so much. I don’t like reading as much now that I’ve grown but this games one of the few thing I can do a whole sithrough for. Thanks for the memories devs!

Absolutely love this game!

Ok so, I played through the whole game and there were points where I would think, “Oh no! I’ve said the wrong thing. I wish there was an undo button, oh wait there isn’t one” and be kind of upset about it. But, once I finally finished the game and I could change how some things ended, (ngl it made me cry). I was just in awe, like I had never seen a game do that, and it was just an amazing feeling like, “Hey, things aren’t the way you wanted?” nods in agreement, “well here, you have the opportunity to change the ending to your liking! But you don’t have to.” and that, THAT got me, and I couldn’t be happier. Ugh, I love love stories, thank you and goodnight/bye

Speechless

Woah, his story truly took the breath straight out of my lungs. This story was so beautiful. So, so beautiful. I couldn’t help but feel just like I was in the story, feeling just as flustered as the main character and everything. I chose the story with Grant. I don’t regret a single thing. The ending left me warm and satisfied. It left me wanting the story to never end. I really can’t put into words how much this story really touched me. I loved it so much. No flaws, except of course for a couple typos, but those don’t effect the story at all. I can’t explain in words how amazing this game is. Download it yourself. Take the path and feel it. Feel the sensation of the excitement, fluster, and passion.

Beautiful

The game gets you hooked from the beginning, and instantly throughs you into this beautiful universe. You're intrigued from the beginning. I love the fact that there are options for sexuality but mostly gender! I have never seen a game that lets you choose trans male, trans female, "person," and other along with cis male and cis female. Not only that, but there are options within the game that bring up the lack of gender diversity (along with many others.) I love how this game dealt with serious topics and featured a wonderfully diverse cast. Thank you so much for creating this magnificent game, it left me speechless. I hope to see many more like it in the future. I believe these games could make a huge impact on the world.

Truly phenomenal

I love this game SOOO much!

I like how it’s quite diverse. Even if you’re going for one character, the rest of the characters are included, and don’t just completely fade into the background. I also get a lot of imagery when playing games like this— and let me tell you, some wonderful art could be made from this. It would be interesting to see you guys make a visual game! I’d be very on board with seeing that. This game makes you question quite a lot of things— such as views on life, on death, on artificial intelligence— on change. Change is a really big theme here, I feel like. I definitely feel like it’s something to be questioned a lot in reality. Everyone always wants to change a portion of their life; whether it was something as small as forgetting to close your door, or something as big as just completely resetting. I love the philosophy put into this, it genuinely gets you thinking.

Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Oh my god 😭❤️

This game.....this game is beautiful.....the storyline is amazing, the characters are full of love and I actually care for them. The romance in this game is so real that I could feel every little tingle that my character experienced when he was with Grant. The ending is AMAZING! I thought it was going to end horribly, but, and I won't spoil it, the way that it REALLY ends is perfect. Throughout the whole story I felt like I was really there, and I applaud the developers for that. This game is truly beautiful, thank you so much for this masterpiece. 😭❤️ I HIGHLY recommend this game, and I hope this game will become more popular, and people will get to experience the amazing few hours of story that I did. 10/10 for everything. Thanks you so much developers ❤️

Loved it through its few flaws

I always love games that go out of the norm, and this one is no exception. I love (or hate? It makes me sad in a good way) that you can’t save your ghost friend and the agony of the avatar over it, I love the almost D&D level type of detail in describing the base- you can imagine yourself being there.

That said there are some issues with it- the protag is rather bland and seems to have no personality. Some visual novel examples of great protagonists: Hajime from Danganronpa 2, sarcastic and sometimes overly cautious, but he still cares and wants the best for everyone (though the protags from the games following that one are pretty solid too)

(And if you want a good main character from an indie game: Butterfly soup with Diya. She’s awkward in the most charming way and doesn’t speak quite properly but she has a passion for baseball and other silly things like dog parks)

Also the other characters came off as quite flat as well, especially if you aren’t on their routes.

There are also instances where you can say the most inoffensive thing and someone will be bothered by it or it will turn into a cringe fest somehow which is always great

Oh my god

Okay so I fell in love with this game a couple years ago and kept it on my phone and played it at least a few dozen times a year or when I was bored or sad or happy or whatever and it was nice. But, I just recently played it and was able to participate in the new ending and this is the best game I’ve ever played, even the front art design is amazing, and the way where your choices are remembered way up until the very end and the complex thought included and all the choices that make you feel like the character is really your own. I love the Choice of Games company and have played all their free games multiple times and this is by far my favorite. If it wasn’t free I don’t know how I’d love because I wouldn’t have even thought to buy it. Very impressed, great game

Tragic and beautiful and everything I want in a game

I haven’t played many games where the story, the characters and the ending caused self-reflection and genuinely tragic emotions.

It was amazing and I’m not sure if I want to replay it because the ending I got was perfect, even when asked if I wanted to change anything. The fact that you can choose that at all is brilliant. I feel the writers put so much heart and thought into this game, that they made it so very less an impersonal experience.

Another thing I really loved was all the queer and poc representation. I’ve only played one other game where it offers more than “male” or “female” for the player. The dialogue really brought this through. It’s just so refreshing to see yourself represented, racially and by your gender.

All of the characters were so well-written. There were points in the game where I just had to set it down because it broke my heart or it got really real or I was faced with a tough decision.

Honestly, if you’re on the rocks about playing this game here’s your open letter telling you to go and dive in. It’s something I wish most games were: atmospheric, personal, exciting, challenging... Thank you so much for putting this game out into the world!!

Amazing work of art

This game is by far my most favorite mobile game I have ever played/read. It had me so hooked in right from the start, and I would love to see more like this, maybe another interactive novel in the future, or more to this story? Anyways, I loved your work, and I want to thank you so much for making something so great. This game also has me searching for other interactive novels now, but none of them seem to match the story and real feelings that I got from this. I would actually get very excited whenever I made another step forward in my romance with Diana, and I was actually kind of torn apart when we were just friends in the end, and I haven’t seen a game that can give me that intense of feeling in a long time, Kudos to you for creating the best game/novel that I may have ever seen.

A Stellar Story (Pun Definitely Intended)

When I initially downloaded this, I saw all the five star reviews and buzz about the story’s progression and tying in of two separate characters and romances, but wasn’t sure what to believe of it. Hearing that it investigated philosophical issues was a major for my philosophy side, and so with tentative hope, I opened up CreaturesSuchasWe and began my story.

Boy, did you deliver.

Feeling around who my characters are and how they feel about life, love, and the big questions was a beauty to behold. I just finished my second playthrough of Creatures Such As We, and am already looking forward to the next one. It’s also worth noting that you can purchase the ability to skip waiting a set period of time instead of paying for premium choices, which is a much more consumer-friendly business model in my opinion. Well done. Truly.

Absolutely Beautiful

Probably one of the best interactive stories I’ve read. I love the parallels made between the game and your narrative in the story, and dialogue makes it wonderfully self-aware while also immersing you in the story. With other similar stories to this, often unfortunately found that the integrity of the story suffers because of people looking for money (having to buy story options, distracting advertisements, paying to unlock chapters). This is NOT done here; if you choose to do the free option, the story remains the same besides for a few fairly minimal wait times between chapters (and the chapter are nicely long themselves). However, I would definitely recommend choosing the paid option to support the author if you can just because of how fantastic this is :))

Makes You Think

This game was a wonderful play. It really makes you speechless by the end of it. You develop strong bonds with the characters and really get to know them and their personalities, and yet there's still more to learn. The story constantly makes you want more as you progress and continue to figure it out. I also liked the interactive touch they used in allowing you to get to know certain people over others. They challenge you in what you think of life's philosophical questions. Refraining from spoiling anything, I'd have to say my favorite part was when you were playing your own person and trying to figure out what your doing wrong. In the end it wasn't exactly the one I was hoping for but still amazing and left me speechless nontheless. And they leave a little surprise for you at the end that made things feel more worked out and ended to me.

Thank You!

Gave this a try and quickly realized this was just what I needed— an alternative universe, a game, an escape, thoughts about anything and everything. Lately I’ve been constantly searing for something (I’m not using the word “game” here!), something that could help me a little bit more in understanding life and myself without stressing me out so much while still remains meaningful. And I found this just the perfect time.
So thank you, everyone who participated in making this game available, really appreciate your efforts in this story! I might just had shedded a little tears over how bitterly(?) beautiful the ending was.
