It’s almost 2021, Carrier.

This Cor app is limited to landscape view only. You can’t use one hand to manipulate it because of that. Being able to use Carrier in vertical mode would be an improvement.

Update: we had a power outage today. Now Carrier on my phone won’t work, period. I’ve spent almost 6 hours trying to figure out why.

Here’s my bottom line: this app doesn’t seem to care about connectivity. At least not with Carrier. And when you go to their website, you see another stark indicator of this. Worse yet, their “help” is a robot. Totally useless. Even worse yet, their suggestions for reuniting their app with their gear seems to require a PHD in network systems.

The Cor thermostat isn’t as smart as this app suggests, just like their website interface to manage your energy usage is seemingly non-existent.

Companies that install this gear are doing a tremendous disfavor to their customers. We spent $14,000 for a brand new system, and now we’re controlling it with something only slightly better than smoke signals.

It makes me wonder how good the equipment I bought is, you know? If my new 3 ton heat pump can heat my house, why can’t I turn the heat up at midnight from my bed with my phone when it’s 25 degrees outside?

Do not accept this thermostat if your installer brings it into your house. Check your bid to make sure it isn’t specified. Demand technology for the present at the very least, because this gear in now ancient (and inexpensive) history.

Disappointing

Because this app discontinued the thermostat their otherwise excellent app supported, when Apple made changes they appear to have completely deprioritized providing a useful update for it. Left us all out in the cold, as it were. They kept saying they working hard, but every other app I have, from the remedial to the complex figured it out. I guess they’re regretting making a thermostat with such useful and staying power that they gave to keep supporting it, but that’s their job. They can’t even manage to change the OLD pictures from Carrier they broke. I am seriously thinking about getting a new smart thermostat and seriously determined that it never again come from this app OR Honeywell, who coincidentally acquired it in the summer of 2024.

No support

App is clearly outdated for current iOS, called for support because app keeps telling me “oops something went wrong, restart and try again”, but after being on hold for 10 minutes the support person’s call dropped or they hung up and they never called back after confirming my call back number if the call dropped. I’ve deleted and reinstalled 5x since and still can’t even login to finish setting up my 2nd thermostat. I trusted my HVAC company’s advice and went with these thermostats, but after spending $1100 on them and Carrier to control doesn’t even function, don’t waste your money.

Terrible App

Carrier is terrible. I first started with a smart home thermostat that was awesome. The layout was very user friendly and the thermostat actually updated when I updated Carrier . Unfortunately when I got a new HVAC I had to get the this app app. It’s terrible. The layout is terrible. The touch response is terrible. I feel like Carrier doesn’t even work. You can set a schedule but if you want to update the temp on Carrier , the thermostat actually goes by the schedule you’ve set instead of the update. So instead of just saying, oh it needs to be two degrees colder than my normal schedule, I actually have to go update the schedule. this app really needs to update the apps and maybe probably the thermostat.

New update to iOS breaks, connection was awful even before

I find Carrier very useful when it is working. Unfortunately, whether it’s Carrier or the hardware I don’t know, but it drops off the network all the time.

Also, the upgrade to iOS 18.1.1 has stopped Carrier from working at all. The logo screen comes up, it waits maybe 10 seconds, then just closes by itself. This is 100% repeatable even after rebooting the phone or restarting Carrier .

Does anyone from this app read these reviews? It’s been long enough now that I’m guessing this is not going to be fixed. If not, I’ll buy a different WiFi thermostat, but it certainly won’t be made by this app.

Weak

A rudimentary App. I’ve had a Côr thermostat and Carrier for 1 yr. with iOS 13.1.1 it will no longer open. That has happened in the past when iOS upgrades, this time it seems like a longer wait. The other reviews are correct: Often it will reflect a setting change on Carrier but not actually change the thermostat. It also will show a different temperature than the thermostat. Setting the schedule can be a real chore as it doesn’t always update the in app schedule or alternatively does but fails to actually change the thermostat itself. I’ve had a lot of trouble with the Cor thermostat itself being inaccurate so my recommendation would be if purchasing a new this app heating/AC system consider a different/better thermostat first. That should cure the defects of Carrier as well.

Stopped working

Carrier used to be great. I was able to adjust the temp if we were going to be away for an extended time, or needed to adjust the temp for the dogs. iPhone updated and now Carrier doesn’t even open. What gives. If you can’t keep up, why did I spend all this extra $$$ on these programmable thermostats? If I can’t program them from wherever I am, they are useless. I may as well stick with my old thermostat. I even deleted & reinstalled. That’s didn’t even make a difference. The installation company has no idea so what food are they? They fired the only good person they had. Total rip off!!

Terrible

Carrier is so bad I literally plan to go with a different system next time. I’ve read that this app’s technology is proprietary, which does not allow Nest or ecobee or other smart thermostats to control them. That said, Carrier is garbage. I have 2 systems and after you tap the one you want to control there is a useless screen telling me (again) what the temperature is in that zone. Why? If Nest made a compatible device, I would switch so fast. And I will seriously not buy another this app system when this one dies because Carrier is so terrible. It’s been over a year with NO updates? Who does that?

*** Update: It gets better. Now Carrier won’t even work on my new iPhone. Shocking, given that it was just updated TWO YEARS AGO. So seriously will NEVER buy a this app product ever again. You are the worst. THE WORST.

Time to Update your App!!

It’s definitely not the best app, but it was designed to mimic the onscreen interface of the COR smart thermostat. Up until this weekend, it had been fairly reliable in connecting to WiFi and letting me use Carrier to control our A/C system.

I just recently updated my iPhone 15 Pro Max to iOS 18 and it would seem Carrier is no longer compatible. It tries to launch Carrier but then crashes back to the Home Screen.

The last app update listed for Carrier was 4 years ago?!?! So I’d say it’s time to issue an update to continue compatibility or redirect users to a new app that syncs with their thermostat. Unless of course, this app is going to foot the bill of a newer Ecobee thermostat for their customers that paid good money for a system capable of smart thermostat remote control.

Worst app/ thermostat ever

I know the thermostat works because it keeps our house at temp requested on thermostat. But when we are away, which is purpose of most remote apps, Carrier will not connect to allow us to control the thermostat. We have spent hours trying to reconnect. We have been successful on a couple of occasions getting reconnected. The Carrier drops off connectivity again and again. Now, for months we have been unsuccessful connecting to Carrier. We even deleted app and reinstalled. Even with all the time we are spending at home, this has been such a pain. ( still not connected). I would avoid the thermostat/ app altogether if at all possible. We will be calling out our HVAC company again to try to get this up and running. Our entire system is barely 1 year old. And this part has been beyond frustrating. I am going to switch thermostats if possible. Then I won’t have to deal with this inferior app.

Unfortunately, this app has problems working

As others have said in their reviews, they were very excited about having an app on their phone with which they could control the temperature; and this, too, was my situation. I have a neurological condition that makes it difficult for me to get up and I really would like to have the ability to change the temperature while I’m still in bed. What I have found is that even though we put extenders on our Wi-Fi system and upgraded to a better system, we thought this could’ve been the problem, we found it was not. Carrier goes on and off as to whether or not it will keep connection to the Wi-Fi system. We had the this app tech here. It started working for a while, but then stopped. I noticed that Carrier has not been updated for two years. Perhaps the problems, which seem to be similar, could be remedied with a newer update and improvement to end problems with workability. Thanks for listening.

Consider another thermostat/app combination

I too enjoy the ability to control the thermostat using my iPhone. However, Carrier oftentimes does not function properly. Carrier will often report an inaccurate interior temperature and will not change the temperature setting on the thermostat after you have changed it via Carrier . I will have to close Carrier completely, including background, and reopen Carrier to get an accurate reading, and then control the thermostat. Another annoying lack of development, is Carrier only has a landscape view, negating an ability to open and operate using a single hand. These developers obviously do not use their own products. Bottom line, if you enjoy the ability to control your thermostat from your iPhone, consider another thermostat/app combination.

Signed out automatically and cannot get back in

Let’s start with the fact that Carrier is far from anything well designed and working properly all the time. I get it. I’m not looking for perfection… but today I’ve found myself signed out of Carrier and I cannot get back in. I did reset the password and was able to sign in from my computer’s browser, but not from Carrier . I don’t feel like I’m spending my time on something useful this evening and this pisses me off. I’d rather do something else not just trying to sign back into the thermostat app…

Simple and effective

Ok so I got a new this app system and got sold on the Cor upgrade; no problem, I wanted the web access to my system and the convenience of Carrier . I read the previous reviews and thought I made a bad choice...and then I got it installed, played with for a minute and realized that either this app made some upgrades, or that everyone else were whining like spoiled brats; and they were.
1. It doesn’t work in landscape mode on the phone... SO WHAT!, I mean it makes sense that it might, but it doesn’t, big deal - if the heartache and pain you have to go through to turn your phone 90 is sooo overwhelming, you need to find better things to do with your life.

2. You can’t swipe up to close Carrier .... actually you can - from the landscape you’ll see the little white bar, swipe up and ‘voila’ app closed.

3. I had to figure out that 3 taps on the screen will get you back to the main screen - got lucky with that one because I was a little frustrated

All in all, the programming for this is not all that “intuitive”, and it could be more user friendly for ease of use in today’s world of apps, but it does the job. And let’s remember this is for your thermostat - it’s not a video game, this is intended to be a set it and forget it..minor changes every once in a while...

So there, that’s my review - Carrier works just freakin fine. It’s basic, and I’m sure there are ones out there with a bunch of other bells and whistles - but really, what all do you need.

Need portrait mode

The apps works well. It is realtime connected to my thermostats. The user interface for this iPhone app looks exactly like the user interface on the actual thermostat which is why I voted it as 3 out of 5 stars. The user interface on the actual thermostat is good and I don't think it needs any change. However I'd much prefer a different user interface on the iPhone: portrait orientation, ability to see status of both of my thermostats at the same time, etc. Most recently I used Radio Thermostats and I much prefer the iPhone app for Radio Thermostat.

Thank you

I appreciate you updating this software. I know it can get frustrating when Apple changes the rules for how an app is supposed to work (security, integration, etc.). I also appreciate how you are making this a portrait app instead of landscape. Is there any chance that this software design (when finished) could be pushed to the thermostat as well? Keep up the good work. Excited to see Carrier when it is finished. Is there any chance of me testing beta updates before released?

Last update makes things worse

There is now no way to know from Carrier whether the system is cooling, heating or even working. Please fix this and put the system operating status info back on the home screen like it was before. All you can do now is change the temp, cross your fingers and wait. Why did you break something that was not broken?
UPDATE 8/4/17:
Newest version once again shows the system status (cooling, heating, fan) on the home screen. Thank you for the quick fix for this!

Thank you!!!

I truly thought they abandoned Carrier as it has not been updated in four years!! I’m beyond elated that they fixed the iOS 18 bug that bricked Carrier and am very much looking forward to the previous functionality being added back early 2025. Thanks this app for doing the right thing and not abandoning your customers that were early adapters, gives me confidence to continue with your brand going forward.

Have had no issues - works just fine

Have had no issues - works just fine for the 6 years we've had it. Only now and then do I need to reboot it, which is easy; pull it out then push it back in. Scheduling is good, iPhone or PC management is easy. No issues really. Only wrote this all out because the one negative review doesn't capture the entire experience with this.

Honest review

Previously, I had to go online just to control my thermostat remotely, but with the release of Carrier , it’s made my life so much easier. Sure, it’s missing a few features I’d like to see, but let’s be realistic— Carrier was just launched a few months ago. I’m not sure why people are leaving bad reviews when the company is actively improving things. At least they’ve released an app, and with time, I’m confident it will continue to improve. These updates don’t happen overnight!
