Disappointment After Two Years with TrueKey – Needs Improvement

I’ve been a this app user for over two years, and while the concept of TrueKey initially appealed to me, my experience has been far from satisfactory. The promise of seamless sign-ins is great, but in reality, it falls short. Every attempt to use this app on my iPhone, whether for web or app logins, results in the same frustrating error message: “Unexpected error has occurred. Please try again.”

Selecting this app over iCloud Keychain should be a smooth process, but it’s anything but. TrueKey only signs me in half the time, and its inconsistency is a major drawback. Its buggy and faulty nature makes me question its reliability compared to other password managers. With my subscription nearing its end, I’m seriously considering switching to a different service.

A product should deliver on its promises, and unfortunately, this app doesn’t. It fails to function properly, even in basic tasks like opening. For an app designed to simplify access, these issues are more than just minor inconveniences—they undermine the entire purpose of TrueKey . My advice to potential users: consider other options that might offer a more reliable experience.

Works But Inadequate Feature Set

After repeatedly trying to add a new login/password entry from my iPhone, I figured out the only way TrueKey will allow you to save an entry is to associate it with a website. Save button stays inactive until a correctly formatted URL is entered.

McAfee support’s response to this was to not add a login entry but create a note. I was also told that no other password managers allow you to create a login account from IOS.

Later found a review stating this issue from two years ago along with suggesting they add a folder capability. None of these suggestions were taken into consideration. It’s a shame because they are valid features and without them I don’t have much interest in continuing to use the application.

Marketing FEAR!

Quit harassing me by communicating with me without my permission. I’m a resident of California- and as such want To see what kind of information you have collected on me. I have no idea how these alerts, messages, etc are coming to me in the first place. Perhaps I had purchased a product from you years ago and you have just been nagging me ever since. Since I have no recollection of how you would have gotten my name and contact information, please advise me as to how we will get my information off of your system. Before you eliminate that information, I would like to request, in readable format, all of the information that you have on me or my account. If you do not respond within the required period of time according to the CCPA, I will take legal action. I tried contacting customer support- however every time I hit send, your system would freeze up. Convenient.

Tough choice when there are so many other great password managers

I recently began using this with McAfee. I have used the password manager from Dashlane and Kaspersky , this app is a poor performer
The integration between a phone I’d request and use on the laptop does not work .
There is no Face ID on iPhone to make access user friendly and if the phone is being linked to open TrueKey on the desktop atleast make it work .
There appears to be no communication on the desktop with any ancillary device like your phone that is used.
Logging on the desktop , not user friendly as there are no options to keep you logged in
2 factor authentication via phone numbers and text messaging does not even appear to exhist
The advanced option for 2 FA is a joke with no availability to use any of the Authenticator apps.

Given a choice of apps , I would not recommend this as it is a poorly conceived password manager. The designers are behind the curve , they can see how others have done a great job and just duplicate some of the aspects that work or even attempts to improve upon it

Doesn’t work half the time

This has been my go to password app for several years. However, now it doesn’t work correctly. Seems since they decided make it an extraction of browsers, I’ve had nothing but issues with the product. Logged into it today on my phone. And none of the links work on TrueKey . Probably since the apps not been updated for over a year. I won’t be renewing my paid subscription when it’s due. There are many other apps that work much better than this one. Paid and free versions. Whether you want all the bells and whistles. Or just the basics. Whether you go for the last pass word route or just need a bit of a warden to guard your information.

Lacking iOS 12 auto fill feature

Installed trial today. Was very intrigued by the product however was very surprised and disappointed that it doesn’t yet support the new iOS 12 auto fill features. The product LastPass already has incorporated it into their product and it is awesome. The only drawback to LastPass is that it doesn’t do the facial recognition on the PC. this app does the facial recognition on the PC- VERY good feature. If this app had the iOS 12 features I would have given this review 5 stars AND already be migrating everything over from LastPass. But they don’t and from what I can see in the community posts they said they would in August and still nothing. ☹️

Great password manager

I like the fact that I don’t have to remember passwords anymore. I feel better about my online footprint and feel less hackable. The only drawback about this is that the True Key app doesn’t work with iOS apps. So to enter a password into an app, you have to open the True Key app and copy/paste the password into TrueKey . That itself isn’t too cumbersome, but there may be times where TrueKey you’re entering the password in doesn’t allow copy/paste, which means you have to switch back and forth to type the password. Other than that, it’s a safe password manager.

Love the app, love the program, but.....

Great program, works wonderfully. But beware of customer service!! I was using a trial version and LOVED it, so wanted to buy the premium version. After TWO MONTHS of haggling with McAfee Customer Service I finally have my subscription working. I couldn’t GIVE THEM my money for the subscription! They either didn’t call back as promised, or called to say they can’t yet figure out what is wrong! Surprising that a company so big and well established had so much trouble with such a simple problem.

Great app, but please fix how long password are cut off

Love TrueKey the only gripe i have with it is when you go to view longer passwords they get cut off. Even if you could just slide it over to see the end.

Instead you have to go to edit mode and view the whole password that way. Which is a little risky if you somehow delete and save it then its gone.

Starts cutting off the passwords around 18 characters and I like to make mine 20-22 characters. Other than that I love TrueKey .

Easy to get used to, but...

It's very convenient to be able to retrieve all your passwords ..., but if ever you want to save it to another password keeper, they really abandon you. You have to do each password manually. So, for that, I would drop this one star to 3stars.
Having used this now for awhile - I am now raising it to 4stars. They seem to have stabled out.
Another thing to note - as to why TrueKey is much better than other McAfee apps... It originally was NOT a McAfee/Intel app. McAfee/Intel just bought the company, LastPass, that made TrueKey. No wonder it's a good App, compared to the others the McAfee team have in the iOS AppStore.

Sign on

On my Apple 12 mini after logging into this app and copying a password from the launch pad, then finding TrueKey to enter the password, when going back to this app it always makes me sign in again. Why won’t it stay signed in until I sign out?

Well a support call got me to change the Auto sign out time from one hour to 2 hours. It immediately fixed my sign out issues on my iPhone and iPad (gen. 5, air two.)
But it doesn’t stay that way. Every time you log into TruKey you have to change the log out time.

Mostly, but not quite.

The majority of sign-ins work flawlessly. There are a few where passwords don’t auto fill, so I have to cut and paste or type manually, This is a minor issue.

The password auto-generator produces passwords so convoluted that I would never remember them, nor is it likely that anyone would ever guess them, so that’s great. Some websites don’t accept the auto generated passwords, but most do. I have been able to use TrueKey across platforms (PS and iPads) so the MK password is the only one I need to know. Works for me. It’s the convenience of having everything under a single password without the associated security risk.

Overall very pleased.

I appreciate the convenience

Facial recognition has been problematic even on my iPhone 10. It works well as an extension in browsers I’ve found, but not always in apps. I’ve found easy work arounds though. Love the password generation. I went through and updated all my passwords for my important accounts.
It has worked well within budgeting apps where I’ve consolidated important accounts. Despite not being perfect, it has been worth the annual cost.

Does what I need-full featured and mostly trouble free

The implementation on my iPad/iPhone seems to be more user friendly and robust than the Windows version, but that could be just the work patterns I’ve fallen into ... I would rather use the mobile devises for training or general browsing and only move to the computer when I have substantial typing involved.

A couple membership websites with logins seem to completely block this app and I’m more inclined to just dump these services because logging in becomes an unnecessary hassle. I’m not making constant purchases from these sites ... I have to check the login info, copy the password and paste it in ... frustrating!
For most everything else I can simply go to the this app App search the site I need and click login. The site opens in this app’s own browser and I can go right to work. Think I’ll dump those services and probably Windows as well. Just sayin’ ...

Excellent

True key is by far the best app for keeping my passwords, personal information and secure notes in one secure place. It works with an iPad, iPhone and a Windows desktop PC.

In the past I used two other password apps and found them too bothersome and a royal pain to use. Their compatible between Apple and Windows was marginal at best which really frustrated me.

After an easy setup McAfee’s True Key I found it easy to use and intuitive. It’s as if they read my mind. Outstanding.

Please change age restriction

Please change age restriction. My son would like to use your app again but he is restricted because of app’s setting on IOS App Store. I do not see any risk with your app for 9 year old. My son have iOS parental control turned on and he is restricted because of apps age restriction settings. He used to used your app but because of apple’s parental control changes, TrueKey was removed. The only way he will use it if apps age restriction is lowered to anything below 9 years old. Thank you.

Not as intuitive when using iOS.

I use True Key on Windows 10, Ubuntu, and iOS for iPad on Google Chrome and Apple Safari. When using it on Windows 10 and Ubuntu, a True Key button displays prominently in Chrome. Can't miss it! Not so with Safari. If you open True Key for iOS you have to select Extensions and choose Safari. Then when you go to a website to log in with Safari, you have to select the Share Button and then select the True Key Button on the Share Menu. What a pain to do! Well, once you figure out the procedure, it works OK.

Love it! Can't live without it!

I used to literally write all my passwords down in a notebook then switched to my laptop and my protection lapsed so I was so glad this was offered upfront. It wasn't asking all the time or maybe I skipped it or moved too fast but I make sure it gets it everytime now. Its very convenient and I really love it! I seriously couldn't live without it or I'd be resetting all my passwords all the time and that gets really old really fast. I definitely recommend u try it out!

Best Password App Period

This is the best password app by far, and I have tried them all, including Dash, One Password, and Last Pass to name a few. It works seamlessly across all devices and consistently enters your login info on every website better than any I’ve tried. Also, when you create a new login it automatically updates so the new login is available to all of your devices. Why would anyone want to pay a monthly fee (like with Dash) when True Key is free.

An App you can trust

I have been using TrueKey for several years, and until now I never have a password compromised. Very few technical issues that I worked out by myself, with not too much difficulties. Some website don’t work with the application browser and some website don’t accept the auto fill and you need to write the password by yourself.
