BEWARE - does not retain data!

I used Hindsight for a couple years, and enjoyed the functionality. But, as several other reviewers have commented, a recent update wiped out all of my data. I used it to track some important things in my life, and so losing the data is tragic. I’ve never had this happen with any other app. It’s hard to believe that the developers rolled out updates that delete all of the user’s data. This is a huge oversight in QA testing, and I’ve lost all confidence in Hindsight and it’s developers. Based on dates of comments from other reviewers it has been an issue for several months, and the developers have failed to rollout an update to prevent this issue from happening. So, if you choose to use Hindsight just remember you could lose all your data at any time. I for one will be finding a more reliable app to use.

Glitches getting progressively worse it seems

I use Hindsight a ton & mostly love it, but it seems like over the past month or so (maybe more or less I forgot when it started) I get alarm alerts for things being overdue when they’re not & it’s happening more & more frequently. Also when I look at the main list / overview, it won’t show the correct time that has elapsed unless I go into the individual event & sit there a minute, then it will eventually update to show the occurrence it wasn’t displaying. It’s very weird & annoying. I’ll keep using Hindsight but like, I’m using Hindsight so I don’t need to rely on my memory, so having to roughly remember times of things so I’ll know if Hindsight is wrong or not is kind of defeating the purpose a bit. Hopefully whatever it is gets fixed bc Hindsight used to be great.

Used to be great

I used to love Hindsight, but in recent months it’s become buggy. Oftentimes I’ll record the time of something I’m keeping track of, but instead of showing the current time, it will show that I last part took in the activity hours or days ago.

It doesn’t seem to sync with my Apple Watch anymore, and I’ve tried closing Hindsight on my watch after every use. It seems to work… sometimes. But then again, even without going through the trouble of opening and closing Hindsight everytime, it still decides to work sometimes and not other times.

Seems a little buggy

I like the idea of Hindsight , the Apple Watch version is really nice to have. I am giving it a 3 star rating because for some reason my data is being erased on some of the items I am tracking. One item I had tracked for the last week straight and today when I went to add another occurrence it was showing that it was my first occurrence. Unfortunately I had about 45 occurrences on that item so there is almost no way of going back through and re-adding old occurrences. So it seems there are still some bugs to work out.

Not a fan of the new UI, new bugs

Send feedback does not work. It says I need to reinstall Apple Mail instead of using my default email app, Gmail. The new UI is dark and boring. It used to be more colorful. It’s also a pain to switch between categories. It used to be big and easy by tapping the category name. Now it’s a small icon. It would be so much easier if the categories were stored in a list that could be swiped over from the side of the screen like a sidebar. I really wish I could downgrade to the old version. The new version is more difficult and less pleasing to use. Update: thanks for fixing the multi select vs single select list issue and the overdue bell icon not showing. I’ve removed those complaints my my review but the other points still remain.

Good. Could be better.

I’ve been using this for the last 6 months. I really like its simplicity. That said, there are some features I wish it had like being able to pause or hide items, charting/organizing tracked info and being able to see notes more easily. I rely on Hindsight more than I should, especially since some reviewers have noted that their tracked info has been erased with app updates. Still, when my daughter asked what app I used to remember things (we both have ADHD), I paid for her to dl Hindsight onto her phone, too. I am going to keep using it and see if I can come up with some tricks to better manipulate my data. I’m hoping the dev continues to read reviews, debug and add requested features to Hindsight because it is very useful.

Great app with a few complaints.

I use Hindsight in conjunction with my Apple Watch all the time and sometimes when I add an occurrence on my iPhone it doesn’t update the complication on my Apple Watch until I open Hindsight first. Minor annoyance but still. Also I have deleted events from my iPhone and to this day they still show in my Apple Watch. No idea what’s up with that. But otherwise Hindsight has helped me immensely in keeping track of my life with things such as how often I smoke, fill up my car, and go out to eat. Keep up the good work!

Solid and Useful App

I like Hindsight a lot and use it to track a variety of things. I tried a couple of other similar apps and this one was the most user-friendly for my purposes. The two things that would make it a five-star app for me would be (1)the ability to manually sort events on my list so I can prioritize them in my own way, and (2) being able to select multiple categories to show on the main list without showing all the categories/all events.

Great, almost amazing

If you could add notes Hindsight would be the amazing. Currently, there’s technically an option to add notes- but you can’t see them. You have to click on event -> history, and can you see a couple words before it’s clipped off by ellipses...

The notes option just doesn’t work. If you typed a description for your event and it’s longer than 2 words you won’t be able to see it, and it doesn’t make sense why they’re in the history section rather than just being visible when clicking on the event.

Great memory aid app!

I’ve discovered a new benefit. I’ve been keeping birthdays in Hindsight for a long time. Recently I started adding as an occurrence in the birthday category the death date of those who have passed away. Now it’s easy to view the item for the individual, tap on the “History” button, and the birth date and the death date occurrences appear. In between them is the age of the individual when he/she passed away. Very convenient!

Being over 80 years old, I use Hindsight for some trivial things and some not so trivial. I have a Birthday category for all the family members. I record things such as fingernail trimming, major purchases, operations, medical recurring events, when new tires were bought, etc., etc. I find it fascinating to look back to see how much time has passed since something interesting, unusual, or important occurred. Get Hindsight . You will be glad you did.

Helpful and works well.

Use Hindsight everyday to help me remember the last time something has happened. It performs its designed function well. Examples of usage would be, daily meditations, behavior monitoring, diet tracking, maintenance intervals (when car repair happened).

Best features (for me) are the reminders and the export to CSV function.

Not sure how complicated it would be, but a nice additional feature would be to add an optional photo to an instance.

Extremely useful for tracking event patterns

I have not seen any other app like this on the iTunes App Store. this app is extremely useful for tracking when was the last time an event happened, as well as seeing patterns in the intervals of when they previously happened.

Features include being able to add notes to each instance of an event, and being able to set up alert notifications for when a certain amount of time has passed without there being a new instance logged. This can range from seconds to years.

Example use cases include:
*Oil changes
*Battery changes
*Maintenance tasks
*Medical visits
*Medical incidents
*Anything else where you want to track when something happened, and see how many days it has been since the last event.

So many things I need to track “how long has it been since”!

A++ An app that does one thing and does it very well. Responsive developer.

When my doctor asks when my last flu shot was, or my last migraine, are my evening meds overdue? Did I forget to take my morning meds? Have I changed my toothbrush head or contact lenses too long ago? When was my last furnace checkup? Etc, etc, it’s all there in this app.

Once I discovered Shortcuts can be created to log an instance of an event, I created a bunch. I now track more things, more consistently. Supercharge this app with Shortcuts to log an instance of multiple things chosen from a menu. I can log my dog’s meds, breakfast, and potty visits all at once. I want to track these things individually, but I don’t want to have to log them individually.

CSV export and import make for easy backups and data restore/update or add entries in bulk.

I use it constantly

This little history tracker has become one of my favorite apps. When I'm sick I use it to keep track of how long it's been since I've taken certain medicine. I use it to keep track of how old leftovers are. In fact, I keep finding more uses for it. Interface is great and much better than other history trackers I tried to use. I also love that it can alert you to upcoming events if you want. Having your data sync across devices is awesome also.

Still a problem with some posts slow to post and a few not at all

My fav and most used app ever, used for years, multiple times daily. When I post, it is so slow to show it’s posted. I go back to check, it doesn’t look like it’s posted or if I sit and wait it changes to show the post. I go back out, again it’s not showing posted. Sometimes going to history I tap on it, I sit and wait for it to post. Frustrating and time consuming. There have been events I know I’ve posted. Several hrs later not recorded. I so appreciate the excellent design and responsive support , unlike the majority of apps’ support. So I trust this can be corrected. Thank you so much for your work. You are so generous to make it free. I will definitely tip you soon.

Help for the Scatterbrained

Thanks to Inattentive ADHD, I often get lost in thought and my brain doesn’t always do a good job of remembering when I last watered the plants—or sometimes when I last ate a meal. Fast paced modern life doesn’t help either.

This tool helps by showing at a glance if I’ve been ignoring something. The saved history is also very useful if you’re trying to increase (exercise) or decrease (ice cream) how often you do something. Many thanks to the developer(s) for making something so useful! It seems like I’m constantly finding new uses for this tool.

Great app, I find more and more uses every day!

I really love Hindsight. It’s great for keeping track of anything from how many times I’ve dropped my vape to how long it’s been since I shaved. It has a lot of information in every “occurrence”, or time you say you did something. It tells you the number of occurrences, how long it’s been since the last one, and if you scroll way down to a previous occurrence it will tell you how long it was between that one and the most recent. You can even add notes to an occurrence and set an alarm to alert you when it’s been a specified time since an occurrence. Overall an amazing and useful app, well with the $3.

I love this app

I have used Hindsight every day for years and it has helped me a lot to track things. I’m glad the developer updated it quickly to fix the crashes.
See my earlier review below:

Previous review: It was a lot harder to keep track of occasional and regular tasks and events before I bought Hindsight. I like to know when did something in the past or how long it’s been since something happened, or how often. Hindsight makes it easy to track all that and to do so after the fact. The category views mean I can track many things and still see at a glance what’s happened in various areas of life.

Who knew?

I got Hindsight a little over a year ago. Like most apps, I decided to play with it for a few minutes to see if I would like it. I thought of different things to add, and I kept coming up with things to add.

A few weeks later, I found a whole new list of things to add that would really help me to remember when it was last done.

Over the last year, I’ve kept track of so many different things from air filters changes in my house to various events I needed to recall, like symptoms. I never thought a nap like this would help me, because I never had one before. It works well, it does exactly what I need, and has some bells and whistle‘s that I may one they put to use. I am still adding things to this. It has been a mind saving, powerful blessing.

Really useful

I like Hindsight because not only does it help me keep track of things like how long it’s been since I washed my pet’s cage, how long it’s been since I took a medicine, etc. I also find it useful because I suffer from lack of motivation and depression, and often fail to do things for several days in a row. It kind of helps me keep on track of things because sometimes the days seem to blur into one another.
