TV Listings use to be a useful app that subjected the user to a reasonable amount of advertising. Not anymore. After several recent updates TVGenius now subjects the user (of the ad-supported free version) to an outrageous and obnoxious ad experience. It appears the developer is intentionally trying to drive users away from the free (ad supported) version to the paid subscription version. When you open TVGenius it forces you to fight full page ads that you can’t close for some time. The developer moves the “x” around between the left and right corners and makes it so small that you end up clicking the ad, not the “x”. After that, it subjects you to a second page of full page ads that forces the user to endure an even more aggressive and obnoxious ad-strategy. I suspect the developer is bitter that the ad-supported free version didn’t yield enough ad revenue or enough paid subscribers, so they’re now getting their revenge on the users of the free version. If I could give this current version zero stars I would.

When it was first offered, it was free. Now they want you to pay a fee. After you get used to it they change the game plan. I do not want to pay for it and the service is terrible. Internet connection is constantly dropped and TVGenius is very unreliable. So, my concern is that they begin charging a relatively small annual fee and decide to kick it up a few notches before the annual renewal rolls around...in short, you may find a much higher charge to your credit card the following year and you’re so busy that you forget the charge is coming. I despise this sort of business practice. Be honest at first—if you want money, don’t mislead customers.

This was my go to app for OTA shows. In the last few weeks the advertising has gotten so bad that when I start TVGenius it’s almost impossible to get to the main page in the first minute due to full page pop up and App Store redirects. It redirects, you hit the arrow to return to app which immediately redirects you again. This is totally a moronic advertising move. And all for a stupid game app company. If I could rate this a -5 stars at this point I would. Early this year I would have rated it a +4. I’ll find another one because my patience ran out with this one. To bad too because I liked this one and I stick with what works. I don’t mind advertising but these blatant full page adds with very aggressive redirects have no common sense attached. Your advertising gets no looks if no one is there to watch.

This has to be stopped. Originally it was free with no ads. Sucked a lot of us in and ran off all competition. Then they added in small unobtrusive ads, it was still ok. Then the ads got bigger, but you could eliminate them if you paid an annual fee. Guess what, if you don’t pay their fee the ads have gotten bigger and more intrusive. Now every time I open it I get a very intrusive video that you have to let run before you can access the listings screen. This is basically extortion - you either pay us our annual fee (which will probably go up) or we will keep adding ads until you get so frustrated that you will.

But since the most recent update the very first thing that happens is an ad pops up. It is very annoying! I originally gave TVGenius 5 stars but have to down grade it to a 3 because of the annoying ads. NOW I’m finding the times are incorrect. I wanted to watch People Investigates which TVGenius shows as starting at 8 pm. I set a reminder and then discovered it isn’t on in my area until 11. What is the point in setting a reminder for 8? As for the ads, I’d pay for TVGenius , but my budget is so very limited I can’t afford a monthly subscription to use TVGenius add free especially since the times aren’t correct.

The last bunch of updates to the free app have completely turned me away from this. About 1/2 the time at startup you now get a screen a full-page ads that you can't exit from from for five seconds, and then when you finally do, another full-page of ads comes up for another 5 seconds you can't exit from.

Annoying to the point where I no longer use it very much. Better apps out there that don't get my blood pressure up.

I used to love TVGenius most of the time I could get the schedule for up to a week. The down fall from Five stars to two is the pop up adds you have to circumvent to get to your tv listings. This has continued to be such a hinderance I'm looking at new apps. I tried to use TVGenius(the most used app on my phone) and best Arabic channel adds popped up and I cannot get past this add. I did get an X but it didn't close TVGenius . I'm not sure what's up I know TVGenius is free could this be it, an attempt to get us to use their paying app? I see the other reviews are saying the same so maybe you are going to fix this huge problem I will stick around a month to give you a chance to get the unmoving pop ups out. 6/17.

TVGenius used to be very no nonsense. I’d open it, scan the channels and choose something to watch. Now when I open TVGenius I’ve become accustomed to expect an annoying app pop up that won’t let me access the content of TVGenius for at least 5 seconds. This is VERY annoying when it only takes me about 5 seconds to see what’s on the current channels. I usually just close out TVGenius entirely and re open it to avoid waiting for the ads to let me access TVGenius .

I like it OK and am not being asked to pay a fee but the ad they have on the page is something like 75% of the screen which it has to be said causes me ultimately to not use TVGenius . If the ad was 10% - 20% of the screen space and placed discretely at the bottom I would use TVGenius .

It comes down to whether the developer is able to support themselves with TVGenius as it is and they know which of their app design s is making them money. I wish them the best but I won’t be using TVGenius with such a big ad.

I have been using this wonderful app for several years and have loved it. Unfortunately, the update that downloaded a couple of days ago as “bug fixes” has broken my watchlist. Now the watchlist keeps zeroing out all of the data, even though I have reloaded it twice. At first I thought it was just a glitch, but now I realize that the watchlist broke with the latest app update. For the developer, “Can you please fix this so that I can love TVGenius once more?” I would really appreciate it, and I could rate it five stars again. Thank you.

In general, I don’t mind the ads. In fact, my family actually bought furniture this week in response to an ad from a local furniture store. Most ads are designed to be viewed quickly and closed easily. The big exception is Draft King ads which demand so sort of interaction before they can be closed. I wasn’t able to figure out how to close the ad this morning; I was forced to close and reopen TVGenius . I would NEVER sign up for online gambling, which makes this particular ad even more annoying. Getting rid of Draft King ads would earn another star.

The other issue I have with TVGenius is that listings for Telemundo and Univision in the Philadelphia OTA market are not available. I watch these for soccer, and I would also like to see what is listed for the associated sub channels.

Overall, this is a great app that is hurt by these glaring flaws.

This is decent app, except for the ads. Once you open TVGenius , they always pop up. The sound ones are the most annoying. Sometimes I’m in bed and try to use TVGenius while my partner is asleep. Once TVGenius starts blasting the crazy noisy ads, I have to turn it off immediately. I’ve had TVGenius for a while, the ads just keep growing more and more.
Besides the ads there is problem with checking the schedule for the next day. Once you open the schedule for tomorrow, it gets confused between today and tomorrow.
I do like how the movies have their summaries and genres set. TV guide app does not have this function.

TVGenius could be the best free TV Guide App of all of them. Instead, it relies on the most horrible way to click out of 2 Ads before getting to the listings. Also, where the shows are NEW, or LIVE, 75% of the time, it doesn't tell you. I've deleted, reinstalled, and deleted it again because it's so frustrating and annoying. >UPDATE: So, after all that ranting, I decided to get the paid version of TVGenius . $0.99 a month is worth eating crow and eliminating most of my aggravation. Keep in mind my other complaints, but yeah, if you're gonna get the paid version for a buck a month, then maybe it is worth it overall.

I have used TVGenius for several years. Up until recently I would have rated it 5 stars and recommend to anyone looking for a a tv listings app. However, now I would be hesitant to recommend it unless you like being constantly bombarded by ads. As soon as you open TVGenius you get full screen ads. As soon as you dismiss the ads, you get a second full page of ads. Good luck trying to dismiss them. You click on the x to close the page and it opens one of the ads. When you finally dismiss all the ads and start scrolling through the listings, the ads pop up again. I no longer recommend TVGenius and have found another app that works much better. Unless you like constant bombardment by ads, avoid TVGenius

I’ve used TVGenius for quite a while now and have been mostly happy with it. Then all of a sudden, yesterday and today, every time I try to open it, it’s shuts down immediately. I’ve deleted it and reinstalled it…still shuts down a split second after I try opening it. What is up with that? Hope it gets fixed soon.

Update: It has become more reliable, although fairly often it doesn’t work and I get a message that says “No Internet Connection” when I can prove that isn’t the case. The good news is that the problem usually clears up within a few minutes.

This is the second time in about a month when TVGenius has insisted that I have no Internet connection. Availability of TVGenius has been spotty like this from the beginning for one reason and another. It's really frustrating because when it's working, I like it a lot, and I have come to depend on it, so it's a huge letdown when it fails like this. Get your act together! Whoever you programmers are.

I’m old enough to remember when we got a TV guide every week and you could look up shows and anticipate what you were going to watch in an advance....those days are long gone ....so I really appreciate being able to look things up here set shows to “follow” & receive reminders! In fact it just now told me that the women’s soccer game was on and on a channel I’ve never watched before or even knew I had and I enjoyed the game thanks to TVGenius!!

Had TV Guide app for years, til their last “upgrade” and I came to find this one. Took me a little time to get used to it, but now I think it’s even better than what I was used to! I can customize it to the channels I receive easier, and yes, it’s got a commercial usually in beginning, it’s easy and quick to get out of and very easy and quick to find what I want to watch! Thanks new app:)

I’m always amazed when I read reviews from people who complain about free apps. They’re free and they are funded through ads. Get over it. Anyway, TVGenius provides what I wanted - a list of TV shows that are customizable to your local channel selection. I cut the cable and use an Antenna for my local stations. TVGenius provides me a list for all shows specifically for the channels I receive over the air. Thank you! Now for feedback - I provide 5 stars when there is an option to pay TVGenius designer a fee for functionality with no ads. I don’t like ads either, but I’m willing to pay for not including them.

I love tv 24, it is so valuable to me and my family. Especially because we get our tv signal over the air. We don’t have cable or satellite. Tv 24 gives us only the channels that can be picked up in our area and we don’t have to look through a lot of channels we don’t have. It’s simple and uncomplicated. I’ve been using it for years and I hope you will too.
