Update: Could Improve - fun money trap

One star because it’s now completely impossible to advance. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get past Four Rivers level 40. Is it even possible without shuffling the board a hundred times?!?!? Come on!!! This is the only Mahjong app I’ve found that I like and I can’t even play it anymore. I just got to level 40 after being stuck on 39 for days because of the impossible original layout and now this one is even worse. I don’t even have to remove any tiles before realizing that it’s completely impossible to win without shuffling. The game should be difficult - not impossible. Updated this review to now be one star because of this. Original review below.

3 stars because this is the only Mahjong app I’ve found that I like. Problem is so many of the puzzles are impossible based on the starting layout! I’m not going to pay for shuffles when it’s not my fault that the puzzle is impossible. I like that there’s no ads, but I’d be happy to watch an ad at my request for some free shuffles!

If the game creator made MajongGames to make money, you’re missing out by not having ads.

Could’ve been perfect

This is one of the only Majong games I liked but I have to close out of the game and then go back in to continue playing when I lose the level. Got tired of doing this, so I bought some shuffles. I used them up on the last two pieces of the game because it repeatedly shuffled them to the EXACT same spot. At this point I was really aggravated. Basically just took my money. When I click “store”, it says I have 500 coins. What are they for, and how in the heck do I use them?? No icon to click to find out. Only the one that changes screen colors. No way to contact anyone thru MajongGames . I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled also. You’d think those supposed 500 coins could be used to buy more shuffles or hints or whatever, but it doesn’t. It all costs actual money to purchase them. VERY DISAPPOINTED

Ridiculous

It’s like the person/people who created MajongGames made it and then never actually played it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun. But there are a lot of simple options that were left out. Being able to reset a puzzle so you can try the same one again, actually having the puzzles to be solvable... etc. I made it to level 38 of 4 Rivers. I finally got frustrated because I continuously got to 2 pieces left and was unable to win. At one point, I gave up and decided to reshuffle. There were 6 pieces left, the puzzle reshuffled, and only one move was available. I reshuffled again, just to see what would happen with 4 pieces left, it rearranged the pieces and again, I was only able to make one move before running out if options. Mahjong puzzles are supposed to be solvable; difficult but solvable.
Just a lot of stupid things that are missing; in Klondike, there’s no undo option... just a bunch of little things missing that make the game frustrating.
I’m not going to pay for extra options when those extra options still aren’t going to allow the puzzle to be solvable. Think, developers, think!
Hopefully they pull their heads out of their butts. I’ll never know. After playing level 38 for the hundredth time(barely exaggerating), I’m just going to find another app and delete this one.

Beware!! of Deceptive Costs for this ‘Free Game’

These are some of the best Mahjong games I’ve tried. Having a variety of different types of puzzles makes it even better. My biggest complaint is with the developer’s lack of communication for making purchases in their app. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind paying for good apps. MajongGames earns it’s money by having you purchase hints. Each games has options for a help function like undo or reshuffle. They start you out with some free ones but when you run out, you have to buy more. I have no problem with that. I went into the Home area and purchased coins and went back to the Towers game to purchase more reshuffles. Guess what? They wanted MONEY $ for the purchase, not coins. I had been in one of the other games that let me buy with coins. There is NOWHERE in their app that tells which games require coins and which require a cash purchase. ** This is extremely deceptive. ** I just spent money buying coins that I can’t use for the game I need it in. Developer - please take note and fix this! Would hurt you to add a page that explains your purchase system? Or better yet, use a consistent ‘currency’ in all your games that are in this one app? If it weren’t for this, I’d give MajongGames 5 stars.

Good game, but a money pit!!!

Just got this iPad to make my family happy. I love to play games. I have a desktop pc which is great, and the game sites are good. But The games on here are too programed and predictable. The program will let you win, you ‘re on a roll..then the program changes..and they make it impossible to win, then your buying power ups, shuffles etc because your hooked. That’s why there isn’t any undo or saving a tile. I don’t like easy or childish games, I want to earn my win, but some of the games are very hard to win without saving a tile. I reached level 90 on Four Rivers, but used up my dam extra helps on Quest. Bought extra, but I now realize that’s what it’s all about buying more because you want to play. Wellllll no more. I’ll go back to playing my games on my PC. The only good thing is no ads..now I know why..you have to pay to play! Good Luck.

Magnet tiles

This game was fun while I completed the 1,000 levels in the mah Jong solitaire house. Then I completed 49 of the four rivers. I have been trying for days to pass level 50 because of these magnet tiles that move the tiles around once you clear some. No other level took me more than two days to get a full three gems.

You can’t get rid of them that I know of and even googling online I’ve found no information about them. I’ve tried this level in every conceivable order and there’s no solution. This level is impossible and it’s very frustrating. This is something the developers need to fix. If you are going to add a new piece maybe explain what it is, how it works and make it possible to solve.

Please fix it so I can keep playing !

It’s good but could be better

I really enjoy MajongGames. Four rivers and triples are a super new and fun way to play! That being said I wish you could play any levels whenever instead of having to complete one to move on so when you get to that puzzle that’s really frustrating you you can come back to it later (literally been stuck on 236 of four rivers forever and just want to move on but can’t ugh). And sometimes it doesn’t feel worth paying for any of the extra things you can use to help because like in four rivers everything is preset so I don’t see how shuffling will change that). I do love how challenging these can be and I’ve been stuck on other levels in the past for quite a while but I don’t come back to MajongGames as often when I keep failing to pass the same level especially when it’s across the board on all different styles. Please just open all the levels to play and let people play whichever ones they want 😭

Fun but a scam

Four rivers is my favorite since it just uses logic and not luck. As you get into later levels of towers and triples (and probably quest) you get levels that have active tiles that you can’t see. This makes it difficult to impossible to solve the level without using a shuffle. I refuse to pay for something that I’m being forced into.

I’m currently stuck on triples level 40 and it has hidden tiles that I can only see once I’ve cleared a bunch of tiles on top of the tower. The issue is that after just a couple of pairs there are no options for successful triples with the visible tiles. I tried it so many different ways and am now convinced that due to the hidden tiles it is impossible to solve without using a shuffle. I will keep playing MajongGames for four rivers but otherwise do not feel like trying to continue with an app that is trying to scam me out of my money.

Slightly frustrating

Overall, this is a great game... nice graphics, interesting layouts, a lot of variety. My one frustration is that the layouts can’t be rotated or otherwise reoriented. On the Towers layout, I am currently stuck on 111. There are a lot of areas that can have tiles that are available for play, but I can’t see (and thus can’t select them). I know this because I’ve had to abandon games when there are no visible matching tiles *and* I’ve touched almost every area on the screen. The areas I’ve not touched are the various buttons requiring me to buy hints, shuffles, etc. It’s a game, so I’m not looking for shortcuts or hints. I just want to be able to “walk” around the board to see where tiles might be hiding.

Fun, but. . . .

This is a really fun game, although it does take a while to get from game to game because you have to wait for the little man to walk from place to place. My biggest complain is on the Klondike game. If the cards are all there, then it automatically puts all the cards in order and the “complete” sign shows up. I want to have the satisfaction of putting the cards in order by hand.
Overall though, the game is fun. You do have to pay for shuffles and hints. They give you five of each to start out with, but the farther you get along in the game, the more times the cards have to be shuffled.
Great game!

FUN, But hard on OLD eyes!

I've played several of the games so far & enjoyed them all. It does increase my time using an iPhone 6 because I have old eyes & have to hold a magnifying glass to see the difference between many of the tiles! But that's a personal problem and no fault of the game.

I had read some of the reviews complaining that the game forced you on to a new level once you'd completed the level you were playing. I wasn't too worried because I'd never played this, but it sounded rather standard for most games & now I know it is. I'm sorry for the folks who don't like that feature, but I'd be disappointed if it were any other way. Seems that's the goal of most all games - finish one level & move up as your reward. I haven't tried shutting down the game, clearing the page from cache/memory and starting the game again, but that might allow you to start again at level one. I do know that if you don't finish level one and end your game, you certainly will start level one again. Learned that by playing poorly & getting frustrated on the first game I tried - Tee hee hee!

Many hours of fun

This game is very well done. I've played all of the games, some to higher levels than others (past level 100 in Quests). It took a while to be able to see which tiles were active and/or how high they're stacked - more shading would be appreciated!! I haven't had any bugs or real problems in any game or level so far. My only real complaint is that as you progress to higher levels, the tiles get tinier and tinier, and they're very hard to see!! I also find it disconcerting when the tiles jump and move as I progress through a level. I understand that this is done to center them and make them bigger as I eliminate some, but after finally adjusting to where I can make out the little tiles, then they move and/or suddenly get bigger, it takes awhile for my eyes to adjust again and to put the pattern into perspective again in my brain. It would be nice if there was an option to turn this off. Overall, a great mahjong game with lots of levels to provide hours and hours of enjoyment. I tried quite a few different mahjong games and this is definitely my favorite. I deleted most of the others.

This game is excellent!

Four different game styles. I solved Shanghai in just under 6 minutes. I have solved Quest through level 161, Four Rivers through level 111 and Towers (the absolute toughest style) through level 21. All of that and there are multiple hundreds of levels in each style - incredible!

As one plays and solves levels, coins are earned and can be used to buy some Undo’s or Shuffles. I have rarely used those; I just play until I solve the level then move on to the next or play until there are no more moves, end the game and start it from new - rinse/repeat until I solve it. That type of play isn’t for everyone but I find it much more satisfying than shuffle, shuffle, shuffle until I “win”.

I highly recommend Majong Games.

Great relaxing and at times challenging game!

I love Majong games and stumbled on this one. It has kept me entertained and given me a great break during quarantine. As with the King games ( Candy Crush) you can spend money if you want to but definitely do not have to. You do accumulate points to get free hints. I am in the 900’s level and enjoy the challenge and solving the games on my own. I have paid for nothing. The game challenges you to finish in three time amounts or none depending on how you want to play it. I am going to go back thru games I could not complete without a blue or pink diamond to see if I can finish them with a faster score. Just me and my iPad on the deck passing this COVID time with a fun game. I highly recommend it!!

You don’t have to cheat to solve

I’ve read several reviews stating that you have to buy cheats (shuffles etc) to pass a level. I haven’t found this to be the case. I particularly like four rivers, because it’s solved entirely by logic. You can see all the pieces at once. The difficulty of the levels isn’t progressive, which I like. After being stuck on one level for awhile, after finally solving it, I’m happy to breeze through a few before getting stuck again. I also like when you start a level over, the pictures on the pieces change, but the basic logic problem is the same- you have to pay attention the location of the two or three sets of pairs.

De-stresser

I’ve beat every single level of the progressive format without spending a single penny. I ran out of shuffles and redos and whatever the other options are within the first couple days. I’ve been playing for months now. I just start over when I hit a wall. It’s entirely doable. You just have to have patience and determination. I turn off Wi-Fi while playing and haven’t had to deal with a single ad. It’s a little hard on the eyes, but I won’t complain since I’ve gained hundreds of hours of entertainment/therapy for 100% free.
I even started over in an attempt to beat each level in time to obtain the 3 star (3 dot) score. Good stuff.

I don’t really rate apps

I hardly rate apps, but I couldn’t get pass level 196 in rivers so I just paused to read reviews. I never bought any coins in this game and used all provided in the first round I ever played in quest. I do find it very frustrating but rewarding to restart levels over and over until I get it. They should of told us what the MAGNETS DO, because they do not just pull said row up or down that’s why I’m stuck now. 😭😭😭 But I’ll figure it out and come back once I completed all 240 rounds in 4 river 🙂 P.s for the reviews that say “I had to use lightning or shuffle to finish” NO YOU DIDN’T, restart round and try again.

Mahjong

I love this. I really like that there are no ads, at least so far, and I've played a lot today. I wasn't quite understanding that the tiles were piled and the only ones you could pick from were the ones a tad more highlighted. Took me a game and a half before that clicked, but this is really fun and thank you for not pitting us against a clock. At 75 my clock doesn't run as fast any more and it's the one thing that really frustrates me. You can actually relax, focus, and take as long as you like. I hope you don't "improve" anything because this game is just perfect as is

Literally impossible to win some levels

I was having a really good time until I got to four rivers level 9. Because of how the board is set there are four tiles that can only be matched in very precise locations. If their matches are not at these locations it will be impossible to pass the level. Once I realized this I saw why I was having such a hard time. It took six level restarts before I got one that even had the right placements to be beatable. Then I couldn't beat it because one of these four matches needed removed to further the game. What a scam! They have all these limited use shuffles and back buttons (yeah you have to buy the go back a turn!) that are there because you can't beat all levels otherwise. They get your money and your fooled into thinking you can beat a level with skill. I'm giving two stars for the benefit of the doubt that all levels aren't as rigged.

Only been playing 1 day

I'm not sure if I'm weird or something, but I don't find 4 Rivers to be that challenging yet. I played it for an hour and I'm at level 15. I assume they become impossible pretty quick though, because that's how games always are. My strategy is to look for all four of one block and I make sure the second pair are likely to be able to match up before I take the first pair. And if possible, I try to take both pairs at the same time. I'm solving all the puzzles in 2-3 minutes at the most. I am usually really awful at games of all kinds, especially strategy games. But like I said, it's still early. I just wanted to offer my strategy to anyone who might be struggling with lower levels of 4 Rivers.
