Jigsaw Bug: HD Puzzle Game Reviews

A friend of mine wanted a jigsaw app he could do on his iPad while listening to audio books in bed, and asked for my input. I couldn't recommend any of the ones I'd used previously, so I went looking for something new and found this one, which is exactly what we were looking for. No adds (the startling, flashy pop-up ones in some games are a total no go for me) was the first big plus. Having access to a good number of free puzzles right away gave both of us a chance to test the game mechanics for accessibility (sinking money into a game I can't actually enjoy playing is the opposite of fun). Also, it works equally well on iPhone and iPad. Combined with all that, the ability to choose puzzle piece shape and number each time you do any puzzle makes it perfect. I don't have to determine ahead of time whether my brain is up to playing this game. If I want to solve puzzles, I can adjust this game to my function level that day, with the added bonus of easily making it more challenging any time I want to. Thank you.

I love JigsawBug. Only one problem. The response to touching a piece to move can be a real challenge. I touch a piece to move it and the piece does not move with my finger. I go back and touch it again, same result. Sometimes I have to touch a piece 4 or 5 times.

This is a free app with puzzles to purchase. There are no obtrusive ads, as of this review. You just get an option to purchase puzzle packs when you start JigsawBug and as you complete puzzles. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is what is keeping me from searching for a jigsaw puzzle app with better touch response.

It would be great if you could adjust the touch response, if it can be done without ruining other aspects of JigsawBug . That happens so often, one issue is fixed or improved, and it ruins something else. So, if you can’t do this without causing other issues, please leave it as it is. As long as you do not add outside ads, I will keep using this puzzle.

First of all, I love the vibrant colors and the fact that there are more free puzzles than some of the other apps. I’m also at an age where I have a little neuropathy in my fingers. However, it is good exercise for me. Love yours the best by the way.

I read one of your reviews from a year ago where the person had a problem with touch and slide, and yes, that may be an issue. However, I have two responses to that issue. I have an older iPad and was told the problem could be the iPad itself (not just with puzzles, but keyboarding as well. The other thing is, it could be the touch of the person. When we get in a hurry, we may not tap or touch the screen strongly enough. My answer! Take your time, tap or touch the screen slower, and enjoy the process. Don’t be in a hurry to get a puzzle finished or be on to the next puzzle. Enjoy the process as well as the end product.

I love JigsawBug so far. Have purchased a bundle in the store after playing the free puzzles. Just have a few suggestions. First, it is very hard to move the pieces. I have to go back and tap them several times to get them to move. Second, you need to put some kind of security button on exiting the puzzle. The “back” arrow is right at the top of the puzzle where I tend to steady my iPad and I have hit this button several times causing me to lose my almost completed puzzle! My cat even hit it one time and deleted it. Need to have an (are you sure) button pop up if it’s going to delete the puzzle when hitting the go back button.
Third, the tray with puzzle pieces is hard to move. If I put my finger on a puzzle piece to move the tray then the piece moves. If I get my finger on the edge of the tray it seems to move ok. Sometimes I have to move it up and then down to get it started in right direction. If you fix these things this will be my favorite puzzle game!

I have been enjoying this FREE puzzle app for a while now. Plenty of Free puzzles with no ads other than the developers occasional ad for a themed puzzle pack on sale. I bought a lovely pack of 36 puzzles with a European theme for 99 cents! You can't beat that. When you drop the last piece in the puzzle the lines melt away to reveal the picture in HD. A nice reward. You can also pick from different shapes of pieces and up to 300 pieces per puzzle with a slider. Only thing some experienced puzzlers may find "to easy" is that when you slide the pieces out from the right border onto the puzzle mat, they are already in the correct orientation. In other words, you don't have to rotate them to fit into the puzzle. I have been doing tabletop puzzles for decades and like this easier approach for a change. Overall a relaxing and rewarding experience.

My wife and I both added JigsawBug to our iPads, and find it a great way to fill in bits of time here and there. We would love to see a few simple improvements to make JigsawBug even better (and the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5).
1. Allow sharing puzzle packs between family members.
2. Allow viewing completed puzzles in full-screen and high-res. We like to show off the puzzles we finished, but can't!
3. Add an information pop-up for all images in both the gallery and when working on a puzzle that tells more about the picture, such as where a place is (when applicable), who took the picture or created the artwork, when it was done, etc. Give credit where credit is due for the beautiful pictures and artwork in the puzzle packs!
4. Provide an option to turn off sorting pieces within the side tray. It often interferes with trying to scroll the tray up or down.

We do like the variety of puzzles and the beautiful colors but we seldom use JigsawBug. Our favorite app is Jigsaw Puzzle Collection HD mostly because it offers an option for square pieces and many colored backgrounds. When you play as many puzzles as we do, it is nice to have the square pieces to have some difficulty. We love doing difficult puzzles especially when there is a clock on JigsawBug I mentioned. You can take turns and see who can complete the puzzle faster or take turns placing a piece of the puzzle and beat your quickest time. JigsawBug does not offer square pieces (a long time ago, I asked if they could include this shape but they said they would look into it if they ever upgrade) and JigsawBug doesn't offer many colored backgrounds making it difficult to see the pieces. We really want to play these puzzles more because we love the pictures but it is too easy. We hope they include more difficulty soon by adding the option of square pieces.

This is definitely my all time favorite jigsaw puzzle app ever! It's my go to anytime I have a few minutes to myself. There are so many free puzzles to solve you may not have to spend any money to enjoy many hours of relaxing fun. Personally I am a self confessed addict and have purchased several of the puzzle packs and they have been worth every single penny! With brilliantly vivid colors, a wide variety of fabulous subject matter and abstract designs - there is something for everyone. And because there are different ways to play, along with the ability to customize the level of difficulty by choosing the amount of puzzle pieces and their shapes, this fantastic app is suitable for most ages. You will not be disappointed. On a scale out of 10, I give it an 11! I absolutely love it!!!

I love JigsawBug and have been using it everyday for over a year. The colors are vibrant and the choice of puzzle packs is great. My only complaint is I am starting to see puzzles from packs I have already purchased in other puzzle packs. Hence the four star review. It’s very frustrating to buy a puzzle pack and find one or two of the new puzzles were in a pack I have already purchased So now I have paid for that same puzzle twice! And the same puzzle has a different name in the new pack!!!

I am someone who never leaves reviews but I felt the need to mention this. I like JigsawBug and have recommended it to others often. I hope that using the same puzzle twice and renaming it something different will stop happening.

Also, what happened to all of the Mega Packs? Pack prices went up and the Mega Packs went away.

This was my first puzzle app. Like the rest of the world I went looking for a better app. After trying out several apps for half a day I'm back. The rest are really awful. Fancy Background colors that make you wonder if the puzzle makers actually used their product. Some commented before they could use more backgrounds but this has options for degrees of dark and light in both the tray and puzzle area. The contrast options are great for old eyes. There are no ads running continuously wasting space and distracting your eyes. JigsawBug has not crashed on me. It actually saves my partial puzzles for me. I couldn't find a better app with better picture options. No need to look for another app. From 6 to 300 piece. Puzzles on iPad version.

This is the best app! It's best way to relax. I use JigsawBug every day. I would like to see a few more background color choices. Also, sometimes when I have my open pieces sorted, I accidentally press shuffle. Would like to be able to undo this! Thank you so much for bringing JigsawBug to me. I love it! It's the best puzzle app out there.

Please, please, if I accidentally hit the shuffle button all my “sorted “ pieces are scattered. Please add “are you sure” before it scatters the pieces! This is my only complaint. If this were fixed, I would give JigsawBug 5 stars!

JigsawBug is wonderful for the whole family. The puzzles are beautiful and they can be as challenging or as easy as you like. It can also be addictive. Two problems I ran into - first I lost a piece behind the puzzle and could not complete it. And I've lost puzzles that were half completed and could not get them back. But still an awesome app if you are careful.

Months later -- this is still the best puzzle app out there. The latest upgrade added many more background colors which are amazing and there are no more lost pieces or puzzles. Wonderful for relaxing.

Not a fan of mixing paintings into scenes of places, such as the ‘France’ pack. It also contains black & white paintings. If I want paintings, I will look for a paintings pack. But I’m satisfied with the puzzles.

Excellent game! Would give this 10 stars if I could. It would be bonus to be able to use my own images as puzzles but their packs are fun and they allow you to use 2 free packs to start out (at 18 puzzles each that's awesome). Each purchased pack has about 18 images too and mobil devices can range up to 300 pieces, the perfect size to relax and you can vary the amount of pieces you want to work with. They have sales as low as 99 cents!!! I purchased a pack and was charged the price stated plus tax. It downloaded immediately and I could start solving right away. I higly recommend this game to relax, have fun, unwind and destress. They have a great FAQ section too. Thank you Jigsaw Puzzle Bug. You are amazing! 10 HUGE stars for sure. ;)

If you like electronic puzzles you should buy JigsawBug. It comes with a couple "packs" of pictures, dozens of packs are available in the store (the puzzle store, not the iTunes App Store). Top price is $9.99 for a mega pack with 100 pictures, most packs are $3.99 for 36 pictures. They offer lots of sales for 55% and 65% off - that's $0.99 for 36 pictures - not bad. You can also use your own pictures but I have not used that feature. JigsawBug works the way it is supposed to, I have not found any bugs or glitches in the 3 weeks I've had JigsawBug . Additional pictures are available and reasonably priced. The number of pieces in the puzzles is selectable but is realistically limited by the size of your display, more pieces means smaller pieces and harder to see the detail. Overall a strong 4 or a soft 5 rating.

I downloaded JigsawBug several months ago when I was looking for something to keep my hands and mind active while waiting in lines, at doctor’s offices, etc. It is wonderful! I love the variety of puzzles that are available in the free version and that there are no annoying ads while playing. Being able to customize the number and shape of the pieces changes the difficulty level, and having the ability to change the background and tray colors makes seeing pieces so much easier! I’ve had JigsawBug for several months and haven't gone through all the puzzles yet! This is, hands-down, the best jigsaw puzzle app I have ever played!

12 March: Still buggy. Still freezing. No other app does this. Twice in one day!!!
25 February 2019 App will not open. deleted it; re-downloaded it. Still will not open. Why has this persistent BUG still not been corrected? JigsawBug is well named. It is a bug, all right. I want my money back. Complete ripoff.
23 January 2019: I have lost count if the number if times I have had to delete JigsawBug and then reload it to get it to work. I have a very expensive, very reliable phone. No other app has this problem. Why dies this problem continue?
20 January 2019--app freezing yet again.
JigsawBug worked for about two weeks after its last upgrade. Now it is again frozen. Deleting it and re-loading it gets it going again, but only temporarily. Why is this still a problem? I really would think twice before spending money for puzzle images because you will find that you often cannot use them.

I love JigsawBug! I love to do puzzles and JigsawBug is perfect for me. I only have one issue and it isn’t really a negative or a complaint. I’m choosy with my puzzles. I like colors and character. In other words I’m not big on landscapes, animals, cities, etc. For the most part I can find a puzzle pack where I like more of the puzzles than not and will buy the pack. However, there are times when I only like maybe 5 or fewer puzzles in a pack. I know, don’t buy the pack. And I don’t but I would like an option to be able to buy just that individual puzzle instead of the whole pack. Is this something you might consider? Thanks.

Ok so I love how this puzzle game isn’t timing you and gives you lots of puzzles to do. But I wish they game more, they only give you two packs and I LOVE doing puzzles so I finished them in like 3 or so days. But if you want more packs you have to buy them! I don’t understand why we can’t get some for free...but other than te soo not giving you more puzzles, JigsawBug is amazing. It is great for people who like puzzles but don’t like being timed. I wish I could rate JigsawBug 4 1/2 stars but I can’t, I just wish they could add free packs or more packs, I just don’t want to pay for new packs and they are more than $2 and some are pretty expensive especially when other cheaper packs give you the same amount of puzzles. Bye!

I love this particular puzzle app. The interface is much smoother than other puzzle apps I've used, and the puzzles can be formatted with different numbers of pieces and with different style pieces, so there are multiple levels of difficulty. The additional pictures that JigsawBug offers are fairly priced, and there are always sales which make the prices even better. I do like the game better on my iPad than on my iPhone because of the screen size and the number of puzzle piece options available on the iPad, but I've enjoyed this on both devices. Would definitely recommend.

Over time they've increased the number of ads, and increasinly often beg for reviews, have made it harder to use, and it has the extremely frustrating practice of showing me an advertisement for new puzzles just a few seconds after I have completed an old puzzle, disrupting my enjoyment of having completed it. And to think I paid for this.

UPDATE: they have become even more pushy and obnoxious about trying to get you to buy extra puzzle packs. For example, I had started looking at the pictures that came in a new pack, I had only looked at a few pictures, when they popped up a dialogue asking "are you ready to buy?" Well no, I had only just started looking to see if I like to the pack. Why even let me preview the contents of the pack if you are not going to let me finish looking around before pressuring me to buy?

I play jigsaw puzzles a lot. I used to play them on my laptop, and working on my iPad is way more fun. Obviously, there is just so much that can be done in the limited space, but this puzzle includes several options that make it easier. I love that the tray can be hidden. The size of the pieces is great. I’m torn between having the extra space on the puzzle board and expanding the puzzle to a full screen. My only suggestions are 1) allow the menu to be toggled off and on and 2) allow the completed puzzles to be viewed full screen. I definitely think it’s a five star game.
