I love that this crossword app works in landscape mode on my iPad, as most are only portrait. So I was disappointed to discover there is no way to get rid of the ads constantly FLASHING at the bottom of the screen the WHOLE TIME I’m playing. It’s distracting and definitely not relaxing, which is the reason I downloaded CrosswordPuzzles ... to relax. I’ve looked everywhere for the option to pay and go ad free... I can’t find it. As if this isn’t bad enough... I put down my iPad for 5 minutes, came back, opened CrosswordPuzzles and was assaulted by a full screen ad with no option to close it, which stayed on the screen for so long I gave up and deleted CrosswordPuzzles . Come on developers... I actually want to give you my money here I don’t just want a freebie! I’ll pay a reasonable amount either one-time or subscription for the right app. I’ve searched and... there isn’t one! There’s a gap in the iPad crossword puzzle app market, for a landscape app with no ads... why don’t you fill it.

I didn't play for a couple of days so I was looking forward to a small puzzle binge. I did the first puzzle and was disappointed to find that the next two are exactly the same.

This isn't the first time that this has happened and there is no way to contact the developer. If you click on support, it just takes you to another game to install.

In addition, I have completed all of the puzzles that came with my subscription and there is no way to get more. Did I mention that there is no way to contact the developer?

Whoever creates some of your puzzles, must never come out of the basement and talk with real people. Sometimes I have no idea what the clue is about and many times no idea what the answer is about. While I do not support AARP, their puzzles involve every day words. I’m a college graduate, which does not make me the ultimate authority, but, neither am I stupid. I’ve been doing crosswords for many, many years, and sometimes I just throw in the towel trying to figure out what your answers are! Your “trivia” leaves something to be desired. If I were to die, after attempting one of your crosswords, I might feel that I wasted the last 10-15 minutes of my life.

Simple to use and reasonable with sporadic difficulty. Tends to use the same answers with varying clues suggesting a lack of originality by designer. Still it is fun. Most annoying thing is location of the advertising bar along screen bottom such that even the slightest touch while manipulating your iPad activates the annoying ad. And yesterday there was a particularly annoying bug which included ads in a language I do not read nor speak, that caused lock ups, and were adult only oriented. Happened to both mine and my wife’s. Had to remove CrosswordPuzzles .

I have enjoyed CrosswordPuzzles. It’s hard enough to be challenging but still has lots of easy clues. However, very recently there are those horrible distracting ads that move back and forth to get your attention. I tried today to do the daily crossword but just had to stop because the ads were making me crazy. If you x one out a new one appears a few seconds later. Please Zelnut, don’t ruin your good app like this. Stationary ads are fine. You’ve got to make money somehow. But I won’t use it as long as the ads are moving and flashing. Too bad.

I like these puzzles except for three things. 1. The background many times interferes with the puzzle blocks, and 2. When I choose a letter a lot of times I have to tap it hard 2 or 3 times before it goes in, and 3. Many times the letter I tap is not what shows up in the box, especially if I'm trying to backspace to erase. It will type a letter instead. This seems to happen mainly on the right top side of the puzzle. That is VERY annoying and time-wasting not to mention I have to go back and correct it. I don't think we should have to watch closely to be sure what we picked is what happened!

I love crosswords, whether in apps or newspaper. There are many options available via iTunes but this is one of my top favorites. It offers one free puzzle each day, but you can also opt to purchase additional puzzles or earn them (by watching ads, etc), which is great. There are various types of puzzles available for crossword lovers and you also have the option of re-solving a puzzle you’ve finished in the past - for free. 4 out of 5 stars, in my opinion.

This is just the right level of difficulty for me. I often have to look up words while solving and am learning new words from each puzzle, which I love. The only reason I'm giving 4 rather than 5 stars is that the navigation is frustrating - it often does not respond to taps, and it would be nicer to have the 'next' button at the bottom so you don't obscure the puzzle each time you click it. Also it would be nicer if 'next' skipped finished words. But overall, the best crossword app I've found so far, and I've tried a bunch.

Crosswords is fun, challenging, and can be played for extended periods with only one add required between puzzles. You can also earn “tickets” by watching ads which can then be exchanged for help actions in the puzzle.

Two improvements to my experience of the game would be:
1. Not having to watch an ad every time I move between screens on my phone.
2. Allowing access to previous daily puzzles by watching ads, etc.

Glad you fixed the display issue on iOS 11. But now I can’t see the numbers in the grid. They’re very pixelated and mostly not there.

I like CrosswordPuzzles . It's easy to use and the puzzles are fun. However: sometimes I tap on a square and nothing happens. I tap a few more times, harder, and it zooms in. That's super annoying. I wish this could be dealt with somehow because this is super fun to play.

Each morning with rare exception, I enjoy that day’s crossword. Depending on difficulty and brain function, each puzzle accompanies a cup of joe as I solve it within a reasonable amount of time. My routine typically allows me at least fifteen minutes of free time, which is roughly equivalent to how long it takes before I observe the bottom of my coffee cup. I would be remiss if I neglected to comment on the therapeutic value of discovering each day’s solution. The puzzling process serves to awaken my mental acuity, which is important to the casework I endeavor to handle. Metaphorically, using a steel to sharpen a blade would be a comparative experience. Thank you.

I have been a crossword fan for about 60 years and a user of CrosswordPuzzles for more than 5 years. The puzzles are a bit more challenging than most apps I have tried, but not hard for me to do in less than 10 minutes. Some of the backgrounds interfere with the blocks, but not too annoying. I’d love for the admin to change the name of the “view from a cave” to “Mesa Arch in Canyonlands” because that misnaming does annoy me. CrosswordPuzzles is recommended for beginners and those with experience doing crosswords that want a quick puzzle.

This is the absolute BEST APP that I have! Period!
It’s so easy to use, has many different/difficult Sunday crosswords to choose from ~ not just the NY or LA paper’s puzzles, and it’s worth buying the ad-free option if you weren’t lucky enough to have found this on App-Advice w/ads removed free... FYI ~ App-Advice is my second choice, just for everything it introduces me to and the free extras, if you care about that sort of stuff. 😉

I love CrosswordPuzzles more than I can say. It’s my go-to entertainment all the time. I’m never impatient if I have to wait for anything.....I just pull out my Instant Entertainment. I have one comment. I wish you had more Brendan Emmett Quigley puzzles. I love his wit! And I have one complaint. Altho I have it set to do so, the spacer will not skip ahead to the next empty block. Please fix this. It’s annoying. Thanks! Pat ElBayly

I have been playing this crossword game for over 9 years! At one time the creators stopped the ability to gain points but lately they brought it back. All the years I have read about apps (I do not have a much as most), the posters slam creators for their greediness. These creators stood by their word and restored the choice of gaining points, when they updated CrosswordPuzzles . Kudos to fair play, honesty and keeping one’s word in the environment we have with social norms today in our society.

Some repeated clues but that’s almost every crossword app and newspaper I’ve ever done. They used to have an unlimited pass that you could buy once and get free hints and unlock all backgrounds but they did away with it and charge the same price as an annual membership. I switched phones and lost that ability and it won’t “restore purchase” for some reason but oh well.

***UPDATED review: display issue fixed with latest update. Back to 5 stars and back to being a daily play! Thank you!

*Went from 5 stars to 4. Last update 3d ago cropped my screen, covering up half of the the puzzle top line...the bottom area with ads is more prominent and makes the interface clumsier. Usually a big fan of CrosswordPuzzles, not so much at the moment (iOS platform)

CrosswordPuzzles is so well designed and friendly. I have been a loyal player for several years and I am never disappointed in the quality and consistent challenge provided. I am having a bit of trouble logging on these days. Several pop ups seem to cause the download to fail. Of course it could be my system or provider. I’m still loyal to this particular site.

I enjoy the puzzles during my relatively short lunch hour, but as stated by another reviewer, the background pictures while beautiful on their own right, make it difficult to enjoy the puzzles. Also, the ‘cursor’ never jumps to the next empty space, instead it goes to the first letter of the word which already has a letter in it. I have tried to adjust the settings but to no avail.

I’ve been playing this game for more than 3 years. At first I ran through all the free ones, but I don’t spend real $ on games. So now I play the daily free game. I look forward to it every day. The puzzles aren’t too hard, but they’re not too easy either. Plus, no annoying ads popping up in the middle of my puzzle… just one after I’m done.

It has stood the test of time with me, which is saying something. I get bored with games that are too easy, and I get annoyed with games that have too many ads and/or interrupt play. This one is a true Goldilocks!!
