I’ve been using VirtruEmailProtection for a couple of years now. I don’t use it regularly, but I do use it. I’ve never had any issues up until a month or so ago, when I sent 2 emails, both on my iPhone, at different times and on different weeks. The emails just vanished. The recipient never got it, it was not in my sent folder, draft folder or anywhere. Which was concerning and quite a pain. Other than these recent issues it has been great. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the recent issues. Still very good app!

I have been using this service for several years and love it. Recently I found a problem though. I have a google account that I use as a gateway to forward emails to my other account and then delete for security reasons. So, every time I send an encrypted email to this gateway address with forwarding allowed, the email isn’t forwarded and goes to the trash folder.

I use Virtru both for work and personal email, but this client only supports one address at a time. If I get an encrypted message to my personal account, I have to go through the cumbersome process of opening it in the web reader, or otherwise remove my work email from VirtruEmailProtection so I can use it with my personal account. Please join the 21st century and add support for multiple email addresses/accounts in the Virtru iOS client.

When I had Minecraft there was this glitch that Microsoft banned me every time when I did nothing! They banned me every 2 days. But when I got VirtruEmailProtection I did not get banned for 3 or 6 days! Get VirtruEmailProtection it really helps!

VirtruEmailProtection deserves tons more reviews! This thing is a life saver! Everyone should download it and use it! The best email app to keep things secure!

Was never able to activate on iPad. After logging in to my Office 365 account via the Virtru app to “activate”, I got an email that Virtru for iOS was being activated, but then VirtruEmailProtection was unable to load any secure emails. It gives me a “not authorized” error. Deleting and reinstalling app does nothing to help.

This version is absolutely horrible, which is so sad, when they had a great working system before!

Gmail is impossible and just so ugly/clunky on my phone, I’m deleting VirtruEmailProtection , and annoyingly using my laptop to send virtru protected emails. I hate not having this option on the go!

I have to use VirtruEmailProtection for my job, and ever since I started using it I rarely get the emails sent to me through VirtruEmailProtection. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. If I didn’t HAVE to use VirtruEmailProtection, I never would!

Virtru is a really cool app/extension. As a private practice therapist it has been great for sending PHI. And it's FREE! The pro services are cool and worth it.

My gripe however is with the iOS app that is nearly unusable to SEND messages. It reads just fine, but it often is unable to "establish a secure connection" even when I have great connectivity. I use G-Apps for my domain specific email and gmail as my client usually. But more than a few times I've been unable to send an email or it sends a client a blank email. Worst part is that it doesn't save those emails in any kind of sent or draft folder so the content gets lost. Sometimes I get the error and the message still goes through. But given the nature of the communications it makes VirtruEmailProtection hard to trust for iPhone. Works flawlessly on the desktop and for that reason it gets a split score. Hoping they improve these bugs for iOS.

Super app, easy to use as it safely, securely and automatically encrypts the email body itself and any payload attachments.

I have used several other secure email apps and this is by far the worst one. I still can’t open the email sent to me. Support is no help. Time wasting hassle - avoid this

I hate VirtruEmailProtection. One of my coworkers is using it for encrypted emails. I have VirtruEmailProtection downloaded and got a new phone, now can’t open anything as they are verifying my email going a several hours now. Worthless.

I have the most up to date version of iOS and VirtruEmailProtection won’t ever open. It worked to enter my credentials, but won’t open now.

I linked my gmail to VirtruEmailProtection and it showed up as a new device sign in u Dee google security and was labeled as a MAC which I don’t have. Deleted don’t feel secure

The virtru web client only works with Chrome and VirtruEmailProtection only seems to work with Gmail

Downloaded and it crashes on startup. Can’t even try VirtruEmailProtection .

Used to work. Now it will not activate with gmail. Won't accept correct password for active sync. Although I did get emails stating successful activation.

Straight garbage app.

Just horrible.

Been playing around with this today. Works pretty well. Have one account set up in iphone and different one on iPad and have been playing around. Wish for multiple email account support. Has no issue setting up emails. Also emailing friend testing self destruct and revoke features. All works pretty good.

Excellent encryption and ease of switching between secure and normal email mode. Would be nice to enable badge notification when new mail arrives, and be able to sort mail normally instead of by “conversation thread”.

Will not work on my version of IOS 😞

Basically it’s great for a quick email and an attachment or two. It has a LOT of potential, but the fatal problems get very frustrating:

1) Deletes drafts, never saves. You get a call in the middle of composing? Everything you wrote will be irretrievably deleted.

2) Image handling is insane. For a product that most likely will be attaching things like scanned documents, you must choose each page, one at a time, from only a tiny thumbnail. Nearly impossible to be accurate after attaching a few. You could try making those images into a PDF but then Virtru wont let you attach it. There’s also no “send to” feature, which would be a great workaround.

3) There’s some sort of bug where the keyboard frequently starts blocking what you are writing and you can’t see what you have written.

Workarounds:

1) Compose in Notes then copy over the text.

2) Haven’t found a workaround for multiple images except prayer. Maybe a third party app that creates and saves PDF to one of the locations you can browse to.

I hate to give VirtruEmailProtection such a low rating because when it does work it can be awesome. But a lot of these problems seem like rookie coding errors and hopefully they can improve this stuff soon. I hate to say it because subscriptions seem like such a scam, but I’d be willing to pitch in a buck a month just to have VirtruEmailProtection on my phone for when I need it, and would wholeheartedly recommend it to others. But these problems need to be addressed before I’d even consider that. Right now not a lot of confidence in the program, kind of like reading a book with a lot of obvious typos.

We use Virtru via Google Apps for Business for secure communications in our medical group. It's very easy to set up and has required no special training to use (I'm looking at you, PGP). Features are still being added on a weekly basis.

As the Administrator, deployment was a snap on Google Apps. I like the fact that our messages are now encrypted at rest, and revocable.

I expect pricing will be along the lines of other GAFB products--per user per month.

I have the iOS app and the extensions for chrome and Firefox. I have not experienced any issues using the iOS app. Encryption is quick and simple. Definitely recommend VirtruEmailProtection to anyone using Gmail or yahoo and especially Outlook. Great app for sending encrypted email and the recipient doesn't need to install to view. Having the ability revoke forwarding and to set a self destruct timer/revoke is a plus.

Need landscape orientation support. Five stars otherwise.
