What a waste of phone space

2022-05-22

Mta used to have great app, you can find trains and schedules “with real time información-delays &all”; everything you need at your fingertips

Now, here is this new app; junk.

Unless trains are on time, it’s not that helpful

2022-06-23

It’ll show you the scheduled times of trains. That’s it. No delay notices or time estimate for arrival. Most reliable way to tell is the map that shows where the train is currently at, so you can guess when it’ll actually show based on that. Once the train time expires, like a train scheduled at 9am, 9:01 its bumped off the schedule even if it still hasn’t arrived at station so you don’t get any further info on where or when its arriving. Alerts are rarely updated and give bogus general delay times. A lot of my trains have had service changes to include more stops because they keep running late but that doesn’t show on MetroNorthTrainTime . It would be helpful to know on a delayed or extended train when you are actually going to arrive at your destination.

Not compatible with Apple Watch.

2022-07-24

Works well on my iPhone 13, but it’s a disaster on my Apple Watch. Just can’t get it to work so I’m giving up after spending 1/2 hr+ trying to add bookmarks from the phone app. Zip, Nadda, Nothing!

Latest version broken on iPod

2022-08-25

Just installed the update that is said to support Apple Watch although I don’t have the watch. It doesn’t run on this iPod, it shows the banner screen then crashes. Nice going.

On time mnr App better

2022-09-26

This version it’s not possible to see the trip you are on and so track actual progress and time of arrival.

Charge without notification

2022-10-27

Downloaded MetroNorthTrainTime , no notification that I need to pay (if there was a notification I would not pay). Now I’m stuck with payment I cannot afford. Shame.

They told me there were no more trains.

2022-11-28

Thank god I went to the station to look. MetroNorthTrainTime told me that the last train home was at 7:36. I’m currently sitting on the 8:02 train. And after that??? There’s at least 3 others coming.

Someone needs to look into this.

Doesn’t load, even after rebooting

2022-12-29

Well, there’s my first day at work getting in late because MetroNorthTrainTime doesn’t load for over an hour. Of course, the train station monitor all are down, and there’s nobody at the Croton-Harmon, NY station booth to help answer any questions. Nobody knows where they are suppose to get on! Thanks MNR!!!!

MNR train crash

2023-01-30

App won’t run on older iOS just keeps crashing how complicated could it possibly be to let MetroNorthTrainTime run on any iOS

Train times inaccurate and missing

2023-03-03

I kept thinking Metro North was taking an awfully long time to add late trains after Covid, because the last train listed in MetroNorthTrainTime was 11:35. I complained to a friend, and she said the 1:55 am was actually already there. Sure enough it was listed on the Metro North website, but not on MetroNorthTrainTime even after updating.

What good is a train schedule app with the wrong schedule?

Not 100% reliable

2023-04-01

Id say 9/10 times the train times arrival is correct. For a task so simple, its unsettling to have to admit MetroNorthTrainTime isnt entirely reliable especially in a city where every minute counts. To be sitting somewhere and waiting 45 minutes or to have missed a train that wont come until the morning because of an incorrect train schedule is not acceptable. Its not cool. Save yourself the stress, try another app or two as i am doing rn. It is my fifth time waiting for a train coming 40 minutes later. I wont even mention how many times ive missed the last available train to North White Plains.

App is poor

2023-05-03

I downloaded MetroNorthTrainTime and it does not show seating availability as advertised. It also doesn’t show real-time train status. It’s shameful that a multi-Billion dollar Agency produces an Poor quality App.

Add ticket purchases and it will be fine

2023-06-03

MTA needs to add the ability to purchase fairs to MetroNorthTrainTime.

Given that there are better trip planning apps available, the only benefit I see to an MTA made trip planning app is to plan your trip AND purchase tickets.

Shouldn’t be surprised it’s terrible

2023-07-05

Track numbers are often wrong and the Apple Watch version doesn’t work.

Okay, but could be improved

2023-08-05

MetroNorthTrainTime does its basic job okay - I can search for upcoming trains, both departing and arriving at whatever station I’m interested in.

That said, it could be improved by allowing you to see a train that just left, in the event you’re on that train, without having to do another search for same train by looking up trains arriving at your destination. It also could benefit from more up-to-date information about any delays, although I can’t really fault MetroNorthTrainTime for that since it’s usually not just MetroNorthTrainTime but also the boards at the station that don’t always have the current info about delays.

Additionally, MetroNorthTrainTime does not fill the screen completely on an iPhone 11 Pro Max, so some cosmetic updates would be great. But, all that having been said, 99% of the time it works just fine for me.

Old version was better

2023-09-06

The new version is confusing and forces you to favorite specific times in trips, when I want the flexibility of finding the nearest times.

Plus the layout is too complicated compared to the old version where it was all in one place.

Used to be better

2023-10-08

Please bring back the feature that shows the ACTUAL arrival time on the right side of the screen for each stop. For some reason that was removed, and now MetroNorthTrainTime only shows the scheduled arrival. Since the majority of app users are checking to see when the train will really arrive (vs just the schedule), this feature is essential. Without it, MetroNorthTrainTime is the same as MyMTA and therefore serves no function.

Good but with minor bugs that can be easily fixed.

2023-11-08

1. The map is very very choppy when zooming in, it is hardly unusable and it is an important feature because without panning is hard to see in what station the train is. The LIRR app map is a lot better in this regard, look at that map and emulate it.
2. Do not delete the schedules for the trains that have departed within a couple of hours from the station you are searching. It is often necessary to look at a train that has departed if someone you are expecting is on that train.
3. If your iPhone is running on Zoomed screen mode the text in MetroNorthTrainTime gets cut off and because dysfunctional.

Amazing

2023-12-10

Love the new look and features.

Out-of-Towner here: App works great

2024-01-10

Easy to use helped me figure out what tickets to buy on the MTA eTix app fantastic. Don’t see what everyone is whining about.

Needs improvement

2024-11-14

I can’t for the life of me understand why MetroNorthTrainTime was ever launched without the functionality to see prior train times than current to forward. How possibly can we tell if a train is going to arrive on time if we can’t see past trains. Unless they don’t want us to see that info.....could it be that their poor on time service would be further and blatantly exposed. Fix MetroNorthTrainTime...

Why is it so hard to serve up MNR status data that’s available on station boards

2024-11-14

The latest update broke everything for me, on iPhone Xr running latest iOS. This appears to be the case for others as well, based on recent reviews. I need MetroNorthTrainTime twice a day—when I’m en route to the train station during morning and evening commute—to view upcoming local and express options plus on-time status, and to decide if I need to hustle or can I walk. There are numerous boards at the station which could tell me these things (if I was already inside the station)... how could it possibly be so hard to push that data to an app!? The other “MyMTA” app is also useless for this purpose, somehow. At this point it would literally be easier for them to just post a webcam in the middle of GCT, pointed at the video screens, and let people login to watch it if they need to know train status. Because apparently in 2019 this agency can’t seem to figure out how to send a series of numbers to two places at once.

Doesn’t show enough train times

2024-11-14

I figured if I add something to my ‘Favorites’ there would be less work. But it’s more work because the 'Favorites' only show about 6 train times and departure time cannot be changed when I’m on one of my 'Favorites' train path. It gets irritating when I’m checking train times at night so that I can find a morning train but can’t even access it through my 'Favorites’ because there aren’t enough train times and the departure time can’t be changed to what it is currently. I then have to type in the origin and destination again. What’s the point of favorites then? I give it two stars because it at least shows accurate times and delays.

No accurate departure times

2024-11-14

Surprise surprise, this MTA app looks fine but is not very useful when you’re actually trying to catch a train. Unlike the subway times app, which is accurate about 99% of the time, MetroNorthTrainTime tells you what time your train is scheduled to leave, and rarely has any information about the actual arrival/departure times of the specific trains. The station monitors seem to work, but knowing I don’t have to run from the subway because my train is running 8 (!) minutes late would be very useful. Please do better, MTA.

Missing some obvious information

2024-11-14

Overall MetroNorthTrainTime works fine if you want to find a train departure that gets you to a specific statio at a specific time. But MetroNorthTrainTime falls short in providing some basic information if you deviate from that singular use case.
For example, I’m on a train to Stamford and want to see what stops it’s going to make to determine if I could get off at Cos Cob — MetroNorthTrainTime does not make it easy to search for the train I’m on (ie- I can’t search for a train departure in the past, so I can’t repeat the search I used to find my current train) and even if I could find the specific train I’m on, MetroNorthTrainTime does not list all the stops the train is making, so I couldn’t easily determine if the train goes to the additional station.

Train times hidden by broken interface

2024-11-14

I liked MetroNorthTrainTime until they released a new version in which only a tiny portion of the screen allows you to scroll through train times. If there is a service alert the train time section is pushed off the screen entirely and there is no way to dismiss the alert. So MetroNorthTrainTime is is useless when there’s a service alert. An app that was once very useful and easy to use is now broken and frustrating. I hope they fix it.

Buggy and unreliable

2024-11-14

MetroNorthTrainTime was buggy to begin with, crashing sometimes and freezing and saying I wasn’t connected to the internet even though my WiFi connection is strong... but now?! MetroNorthTrainTime doesn’t work 75% of the time, crashes constantly, and it like to only show me train times for midnight rather than my current time. Just now, MetroNorthTrainTime told me that my 8:40 train, which is 10min late right now, has an eta of 12:47pm. Like, WHAT?! Yeah, why am I using this MTA failure of an app again?

Missing critical feature.

2024-11-14

Why can’t I change the departing time of my favorite trips from “now” to some other date on the same screen. Currently, I have to go back to the homepage, create a brand new trip, add the destinations and pick a time. All that just so I can plan my usual travel at a different time of day. This is a huge inefficiency that is easy to fix. I really hope you correct this inconvenience.

typical MTA,

2024-11-14

Llike their trains it’s all a great idea and it should work and save time, but poor design and poor execution ruins everything.
if you can get MetroNorthTrainTime to load. any search requires a half dozen clicks. buying a ticket? well then of course it needs to switch to a different app, another 1:2 dozen clicks, gets hung up, while the train conductor is waiting for payment.
endless frustration due to poor design.
MetroNorth, this message is for you:
1) i should be able to buy a ticket with one click!
2) the train schedule i use most should preload all day long for the entire day not some 2 hour slot! that schedule should display on the landing page !
3) train time and eTix should be one app!

Needs monumental improvement

2024-11-14

Relying on MetroNorthTrainTime for train information on the go has caused me to miss or be late for countless important appointments. Gives you no updates about changes, and if a train is late arriving it doesn’t show in a list of trips, tricking you into thinking it isn’t coming at all. Has caused me to miss dozens of trains

Shows no one senior checked it carefully

2024-11-14

2 Basic flaws
1 Once the train has started, MetroNorthTrainTime disables the journey and cannot check when you are going to reach
2 Often it shows times from 4 am or so and I am unable to see the current train times. Why not at least let flipping through the pages or best show times from 1hr back onwards and that way the 1st flaw will be covered
3 It does not show the latest status of train times accurately, which is misleading. Not sure if this is difficult to get, although I feel this is programming error.

Getting better - needs countdown

2024-11-14

This informational app has improved in the last year, as several free and more useful apps have dropped out of MetroNorthTrainTime Store and therefore my new iPhone.
Unfortunately a very useful feature, a countdown clock for the next few departures, doesn’t exist yet. For regular commuters, quickly referencing how much time is left significantly beats trying to do the math in your head. It’s an app after all, so not really a big ask!

Necessary but not as functional

2024-11-14

So a train app is a requirement if you ride the train daily. You expect it to provide times and up-to-the minute delays which for the most part are accurate. However, if i am unable to scroll through MetroNorthTrainTime or see past one time because MetroNorthTrainTime has failed to keep up with software updates it becomes frustratingly and relatively useless. What was once good is now no longer helpful.

Very Useful App - Tweaks Would be Great

2024-11-14

I struggled with major glitches when I upgraded to v3.0.3, but after deleting MetroNorthTrainTime and reinstalling it, it has worked almost flawlessly. It’s a very useful way to get quick info on the trains I care about.

One annoyance I hope they can fix is when trains are delayed, say an 8:00 train has an ETA of 8:05, if the schedule is refreshed to get an updated ETA, it works fine until the scheduled arrival time (8:00). If I refresh the list after 8:00, the 8:00 train disappears from the schedule that is shown, even if it hasn’t arrived yet, so I can’t get an updated ETA. Ideally, MetroNorthTrainTime would continue to show a train on the schedule until ~30 secs after it DEPARTS the station (should show “departed” as status).

If this minor change is made, MetroNorthTrainTime would be a perfect 5 stars.

Useful app with minor oversights

2024-11-14

It’s annoying that it won’t show train information after the departure time—often I’d like to check when the train I’m on will arrive, or check what stops it’s making. It would also be nice if the train time and e-ticket apps were combined—switching between them can be annoying. That said, it’s great to be able to find up to date info on train schedules and tracks without having to hunt for and crowd around information boards in the station.

The current App is useless. It consistently freezes. It shows me the whole country when I only need New York. It takes more steps to see schedules. Before I upgraded the App there were less steps but it consistently posted train schedules that were incorrect. I finally just deleted it. It served no purposed other than Ads. Now I just go to the MTA website.
