Very fun, challenging game!

I also have to say - ignore the naysayers! It’s unique and very satisfying to play. After I played for a few levels, I happily paid a couple bucks to get rid of the ads and that was completely worth it for the gameplay, having more hints, and supporting a puzzle game that’s not another run-of-the-mill crossword.

The levels range from easy to very challenging, and I like that the harder levels aren’t dumbed down. Even if you know what a word is, the puzzle can be tricky if you aren’t sure where the correct letter should come from, presenting a unique little twist on the usual crossword format.

The only downside is that it takes sometimes months for new levels to come out, and when they do it’s only a couple at a time and the game is so addicting that the new levels are completed in a day or two. I would love to see more levels coming, or even a daily puzzle. Simply put, I want to play more! :) Of course that’s not worth taking a star off the rating of such a great game.

I’m addicted! Great puzzles but challenging!

I enjoyed the introductory pack so much that in spite of telling myself the entire time that I would not purchase the remaining packs, I did it anyway. Uh-oh, my bad. I did not take the time to read the categories closely enough, or just did not realize how many levels there would be in each category. I’m still on “World of Sports” and I have never watched most of the categories of sports that are in that section and I now realize I know NOTHING about most of them. Of course, the hints are there, but if you have never heard the terms before they don’t help much. Plus, it’s no fun to have the answers given to you. But I’m getting there. At least I can say I am learning something new all the time! And I am addicted - I just can’t stop playing regardless of how hard it gets!!

Great base with potential for wonder

So crossword puzzles are not novel, new ones come out monthly it seems or even weekly. How does this one differ? Well it grants initial ‘hints’ by allowing knowledge of the first/last letters- hence the game title. And that part is good and works well. However then you have a closer look at this ‘free’ (uhhuh yea right we all know that’s not true) game and everything else deeper under the first set of levels is an in-app-purchase. And if you’re content with the base package, then you have to deal with the annoying controls and interface. It does a poor job at best of highlighting which letter you have selected, level restart clears all progress even if you have straightened out many words and I’m sure the puzzles get broader, and ‘incompletion of puzzle’ shows up AFTER you’ve spent the time swapping letters randomly in futile attempts.
If the files and rows were fluid and could slide to swap letters and the letters were confined to certain files/rows (or the intersections instead were the known letters) they’d have a much better user friendly game.

Fun. Unique. A couple UX issues

This game is a unique take on a crossword puzzle. It's not as easy as you might think and they were definitely well thought out. Overall it was a lot of fun.

The game does have a couple UX issues. For instance you have to open the menu to restart. A few times in the beginning I accidentally got hints when I was trying restart because I'm used to other games restart in that position. There's plenty of real estate up there, could've had both. My biggest complaint was that the game wouldn't remember my settings so I had to navigate several screens in and out to turn off the music. I like the in-game sounds but the music want my thing. Unfortunately, everytime the game started I had to turn it off.

Those were my only two issues. Even the ads are well done. If you like brain teasers and crossword puzzles then this game is for you.

Still a go-to game

it's always on my iPad. i keep hoping for new updates to add more puzzles, but i'm nowhere near done with the ones i have so i don't guess there's any rush. :)

i have noticed than on my 7th gen iPad, if i tap the level name to get the menu, the top and bottom of the menu screen are cut off. i also notice that the hint button is still too easy to hit. maybe if it required a long press? and it's still very frustrating to have only one undo per level. unlimited undos would be a bit much, but maybe three? even two would be enough to allow me to relax a bit. i've also noticed that the letters can be a little blocky with some colouring artifacts around their edges.

all in all, though, i love the game. it's a long-time favourite and one of the first apps i install when i get a new iPad. keep up the great work!

And I just read a negative review

I just stumbled across the review titled "Kinda fun but poorly executed". Man, what a grouchy-poo! I can't believe someone would be such a grump about a free game. I don't know the developer, but I appreciated his response about returning to a previous screen - GREAT INFO! (I have to admit, I, too, hadn't watched/read the
tutorial on AlphaOmega to discover that hidden gem. My bad.) Anyway I really enjoy AlphaOmega, the puzzles make me think hard, and I can testify it's helping me keep my
A-game-brain in tune and ready to use for more important tasks. Thank you, developer, for investing "hundreds of hours" into AlphaOmega. Please know that there are many of us bopping along in the background LOVING what you've created for us. Because of stumbling across that negative review, I for one, will be better at handing out positive reviews. ♥️♥️♥️

Ignore the naysayers, hidden gem amongst this genre

I think the game is great. And absolutely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for a relaxing game on a quick break or to wind down. I look forward to playing more and will likely buy packs as it’s been very satisfying thus far!

To the dev, don’t worry about people complaining in reviews. All sadly part of our internet culture. No one thinks that a real person reading them is being affected. Many hide behind a screen and make hyperbolic statements. In a way, all feedback is good feedback as it will help you continue to improve (even if not shared in the most constructive manner.) great game. Thanks for sharing it with the world!

Great game but could use some tweaks.

This game is delightfully challenging and in terms of fun, if you’re a word game lover, this is a 5 star game. But, I’m leaving 3 stars because of one fairly frustrating flaw: when you reach the higher levels the rows and columns become too long and you can’t zoom out far enough to see the line from beginning to end. For a game modeled around the premise that your brain can unscramble a word/phrase given the first and last letters are in place, you should be able to zoom out far enough to see the entirety of the line. For example, the Famous Landmarks level in the All American pack is pretty much impossible without the use of hints. One of the answers is ‘Wright Brothers Memorial’ but you can only zoom out far enough to see ‘Wright Brot’ (11 squares) at once.

So, developers, if you see this and can fix it, you’ll have yourself a five star game!

Unique and clever

I had just picked up Antitype by the same developer and loved it enough to see what else they had. This is another very clever and unique word puzzle. Its a mashup of crossword, scrabble, and word unscramble. It’s challenging but relaxing. The music is beautiful and meditative...it’s like meditating and exercising your brain at the same time 😀! The game play is simple to learn and the puzzles are thoughtful and challenging. Such a nice change from all the word search and unscramble puzzles out there! Alpha Omega and Antitype have instantly become my two favorite word puzzles! If you are a word puzzle lover these two twists on them are absolute must-haves!

No updates

EDITED: I have sent several messages to the developers regarding updates. The first reply said there were more levels coming, but now I am just being ignored. Don't waste your money. I have been waiting almost 2 years and nothing to show for the money I spent for unlimited play.

I have written this before, but now I just feel scammed out of the money I paid for "lifetime" puzzles. Ever since I paid to have access to all of the puzzles, there has not been a SINGLE update adding new ones to AlphaOmega . I would like a refund back since giving you my money has been a complete waste. If I could give no stars, I would. Every time I contact you regarding updates, I am told they are coming. It's been well over a year, probably closer to two, since there have been extra puzzles added.

Fantastic

I love word games but I get bored easily. I’ve made it through 20 levels so far. I adore this game. It’s just enough of a different concept to keep my attention. The music is very soothing. It’s challenging without making me feel stupid. Just an overall great game. I wish there was another way to unlock some of the other packs. We don’t often have extra money to spend on a game. I’m hoping to talk my husband into giving me a few buck to spend on it since it’s my birthday. Thank you for a great game!

Addicting!

Great game! I’m addicted! I tested out the free version to see if I’d like it. I LOVED it and am looking forward to new packs.

The sizing is a little buggy on my iPhone XR. When I move on to the next game sometimes the sizing is HUGE and it “fights back” when I try to resize. Sometimes it takes three or four attempts to size it where I want it. A small annoyance for a game I’m addicted to. Caught a few misspellings! Again, no biggie, can’t even remember what they were. I can’t comment on all the bells and whistles because I was too busy playing.

The big disappointment for me is that I can’t replay the packs.

New for me

I have been a crossword fanatic since a very young age. I have them to thank for a large vocabulary. I often play one word crosswords, and other games of that type. I have just started this one. It took me a minute to figure how to move tiles in order, however, I am now am enjoying it very much. As long as I am able to continue without making purchases I will be a happy camper!

Kinda fun but poorly executed!

Whose idea was it to have the level selection screen be different letters but the same numbers on a scrabble board with no linear direction? I bet it was the same idiot who decided to make it possible to select a level you have already completed but NOT include a button to return to the level selection screen! Every time I accidentally select the wrong '1' or '2' or '3' I have to shut down the entire application and start over to select - or, rather, ATTEMPT to select - a new level. Deleting it as soon as I finish this review. The concept is interesting but I'm not the kind of body to ignore such a serious pairing of design flaw.

That walkthrough was painful

Edit, the devs responded, so... Hey devs, I know y’all work hard, but maybe watch a few people use AlphaOmega for the first time. I think you’ll see how it is unintuitive. I’m editing this in response but leaving the rating because that’s my rating of the game.

As far as the walkthrough, it would be better to just let people dive in, and then the first time they use up all their moves, then have a little pop up to let users know that they can click restart — that’s the only part of the walkthrough that users wouldn’t figure out on their own.

Remove locks on switched letters

This is a really fun game with plenty to do, even just in the free segments. It just seems unnecessary that there’s only one “undo” per level. Just makes it so you have to redo the whole puzzle if you make a mistake. I can’t figure out the purpose of not allowing us to switch letters around as much as we want without having to restart the level, other than to make us watch another ad each time we have to go back to the menu. I understand that it’d be tricky with the letters on the crosses, but surely there’s an elegant way around that.

Fun ... but too many ads!

At first I liked the game as it progressed from simple to more challenging. Then about halfway through the difficulty level disappeared and each game was random. I’m not interested in the simpler ones at this stage of playing it.

UPDATE: I’ve reached level 55 and as the game progresses, it gets more challenging. And each game does indeed become more difficult. I’ve added another star. Why not 5 since the game is a winner? Because of that annoying erasure and the irrelevant ads.

The “erasure” feature is horrible. Why do I have to start all over again when I’ve made an error?

And the ads. Why don't game developers realize that if it’s a word game, I’m not remotely interesting in “serving ice cream cones”. Ridiculous. And no ... it doesn’t lure me into paying extra for removing all the ads. It just makes me feel conned and angry. Then I move on!

Pretty Great

I really enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this game. It is easy to comprehend the mechanics and I love how I can pick it up and instantly jump back into a puzzle. The animations are subtle yet smooth.

The ads do pull you out of the peacefulness. I would just pay to remove them, but for me the cost to unlock more levels isn’t worth the investment, even considering I like the game.

Also, as a developer myself I do understand the time and work that goes into releasing an app. This one is truly unique and well executed.

Love most of it

Fun to play, but there are a few things that I don't love about this game: 1. Misspelled words in a game that is all about spelling. That seems lazy on your part for not double checking it. 2. Some levels have repeats of the same words. 3. Some words require you to switch identical letters for it to count as correct. 4. Come on guys, don't ask $30 to be able to change the background color. It should be a perk of purchasing any level. I play at bedtime and wish the screen was darker.

Great and creative app, but...

This is a new twist on word games and puzzles, combining Scrabble and word scrambles. The game play is fantastic. But every time I complete a level or have to restart, the new game doesn't load. AlphaOmega doesn't crash but I get a blank screen. I'd love to buy the full app but I certainly won't in this state. If the developer could reach out about fixing this, that would be much appreciated. By the way, the developer should also have a support section on their website, but they do not.
