Why doesn’t is show you when you get a puzzle right any more? Why can’t you revels all errors?

Why would you kill those options?

What’s the point if you don’t know if you got it right or not. You have to scroll through each clue and see if that one is correct. Makes no sense.

The interface made it appear as though purchasing Crosswords would allow you to download ny times this app. However, only after purchasing does it prompt for a separate login to a ny times crossword subscription in order to download the puzzles. The syndicated, week-old puzzles are available on other apps for free—this interface is deceptive and designed to trick people into paying $10 for Crosswords before revealing that you still have to pay more for the puzzles. Developers should be ashamed of themselves for using this tactic.

I don’t get it. This is marketed as an upgrade to their old app. The only thing it does better is give you a little info on the providers. On the other hand, the google search button doesn’t work and the delete puzzle button works but is clunky. Not impressed.

I upgraded today from Crossword Classic, which had stopped downloading the Telegraph 2 days ago. I upgraded specifically to access the Telegraph, which was listed on Crosswords info. My sign in to the Telegraph wasn’t accepted on either my iPhone or my iPad (both running iOS 11.4.1); the sign in works perfectly well on the Telegraph site. Then the option to sign in disappeared completely along with all signs of the Telegraph. Crosswords itself is horribly designed. The original Crossword Classic app, which I’ve used for years, was easy to navigate. This version is absurd—but I could live with it if the Telegraph worked. Either fix the issue or please give me a refund.

I bought this software so that I could download puzzles from a couple of websites and import them into third App. Unfortunately, the functionality to import downloaded puzzles is not available in the trial version.

However, when I downloaded some sample puzzles (.puz files) I was unable to import them. They would just show up as grayed-out items and I could not import them. I sent a message to the developer in late December. To date I’ve not heard a reply.

If you want to plunk down ~$10 for a non supported piece of software, this is a good place to start!

Extremely annoying, having already paid for Crosswords and multiple previous versions on iOS and going back to palmOS.

However, I discovered that one of the older versions - also called this app, but with a dated skeuomorphic icon - will actually open .puz if you download it from safari.
Of course if you subscribe to the NYT puzzle, you might as well use their app.

I have finished multiple puzzles on hard difficulty. I found most of the questions to be intriguing and rewarding when solved. But I’m writing this review because in more than one puzzle I found puzzles answers that didn’t coincide. On on puzzle an answer was clearly MTVDJ. Though an intersecting clue with the answer IRV changed MTVDJ to MTVVJ and which was found to be correct in the info screen.

I wanted to buy a bundle, but Crosswords wouldn't return me to the home screen from one of the puzzles. I can't get out of the puzzle except by starting a new built-in puzzle. So the interface needs work.

It works, but gets flakier with every release. The top row is often partially hidden, switching away to another app and back again changes the solve orientation from vertical to horizontal (but you won’t know it until you start typing), navigation in “clue list mode” is awful (whereas it used to be great in older versions). I’ve been with Crosswords and its earlier incarnations for well over a decade, but I’m starting to look at (hopefully) better options.

Loved Crosswords until the new update. Super sluggish. Lost the option to delete a puzzle. Would get rid of the easy and simple puzzles leaving only the harder ones to work on. Now everything is cluttered.

Tried this one for a few days after using Crossword Classic for years. Glad I gave the developers some additional $$ because Crossword Classic has been my most used app on my iPad since iPad’s existed, but Crosswords just isn’t my cup of tea. I gave it a shot, but I’m back with my beloved Crossword Classic and just dealing with the little eccentricities!

I’ve bee a fan since ‘classic’ for my WSJ puzzles. Today I downloaded the 21 Aug file from WSJ, opened it, and saw ‘no new puzzles were imported.’

Please help!

Puzzles are good but needs a couple of features
1. An option to highlight errors as made OR
2. An option to search the entire puzzle for errors.
You can only check for incorrect letters within the individual clue

I love the phone version of Crosswords. The ipad version is workable but so very crowded. i would like to remove the clues on the side of the puzzle and use only the line above the keyboard. Is there some switch I'm missing to do that?

It needs a “settings”. It needs to make it possible to see errors.

See Below…. Just upgraded Crosswords (for $9.99) because the older version wouldn’t work with iOS 13. Pretty disappointed. This version lacks two key features the older version had: 1. The “cheat/reveal answer” button - sometimes on an obscure proper name clue, you just want to fill it in and move on. This version lacks that feature; 2: the rebus function - I just worked a puzzle that had 4 squares that required a 4 letter answer in a single square. I figured all of them out, but had no way to enter multiple letters in a single square. Therefore I could not finish the puzzle. Old version of Crosswords allowed you to do that. I don’t know why these features were omitted, but in this case we have to pay more to get less…

Update: disregard the above criticisms. After solving a few more puzzles, I stumbled upon the two features I mentioned above. One has to hold down the puzzle icon on the left of menu bar above the keyboard to pop up the “reveal” and “rebus” features. Therefore this version has fulfilled my expectations and I gave it 5 stars…

Really good crossword app. However, the delete function bounces around erratically rather than just deleting the letter to the left or above. This can be very annoying!

The included difficult puzzles are good. The easy ones aren’t worth the time. After completing all of the hard ones, new difficult ones are few and far between. Maybe 2 per week.
Disappointed.

I love doing a crossword in the morning, so this is one of my favorite apps. Also love how responsive they are if something is wrong, like if a particular crossword isn’t downloading. They are very quick to fix issues and respond to questions.

This is my favorite puzzler. I like to know my mistakes as I go - which is a choice you can make. But, the best feature is the navigation through the puzzle. This is just the best I’ve found!

I’ve tried several others and came back to this one.

Technically it works fine, easy to navigate the puzzle.

This one synchronizes your work between devices via the Game Center. There was another crossword app that really impressed me but I lost interest when I discovered that it wouldn’t sync. Look for syncing.

A one time purchase gets constantly updating puzzles, maybe about three a day, along with a massive catalog of the past puzzles going back to 2015. This is much more than I will ever need. If you’re very picky about your this app then the selection might not be for you, but I like these.

It also has crossword bundles via IAP but I never felt a need to buy one.
