Updated review

I gave Shelfy 2 stars before because of its premium price of $40 a year or $100 for lifetime access and not having cloud syncing; which to me is a basic premium feature. Ofc Shelfy itself syncs in iCloud, but the data within Shelfy doesn’t sync to a server owned or contracted out by this app. Resulting in the inability to view dats across multiple devices because it lacks cloud auto sync.

Now I’m giving it 1 star because I was keeping Shelfy to wait for the update. But because I have more than 3 books from my free trial,
I literally cannot access Shelfy anymore without paying first. Resulting in I can’t even check for new updates within Shelfy .

This is by far the most brilliant app but the poorest execution I’ve ever seen from any app in Shelfy Store since Shelfy Store debuted. Y’all seriously need to figure out how to design a practical free plan that incentivizes users to want to pay for Shelfy. But having no access without paying first after sampling it for a few days is a shot in the foot to yourself. If a user has ANY doubts, locking them out is just gonna make them say screw Shelfy every time cuz they already aren’t sold.

Do better devs…do a lot better.

Not free like ad said

I only downloaded Shelfy cause the ad I saw said it was free. Straight up lie. If it was free but you had to pay to get certain features I get that. But not even being able to use Shelfy without paying is ridiculous. How do I know if I’m gonna like Shelfy if I cant test it out longer than 3 days for free. Most of the books I read are well over 700 pages, on average I finish them in about 5 days. I wouldn’t be able to get the full feel of Shelfy in 3 days. Biggest complaint is that the ad that made me want to download Shelfy said it was free and it’s not.

Couldn’t even access Home Screen

The Home Screen wouldn’t load due to an advertisement for the subscription. I couldn’t even use it for free. Deleted and reinstalled it then realized I can just use an actual journal or stick to my Goodreads

Not free. At all.

Can’t use or open Shelfy unless you pay. It’s basically a paid app. Would have preferred to buy it then to waste my time and give them my data. There is NO free version. Do not download if you don’t want to waste your time and hav your data collected.

Not free

I went through the whole process of starting my shelf and right at the end it tells me about the fee AND WOULD NOT LET ME CLICK OUT OF IT I had to leave Shelfy to go back in and it takes you right back to it . BE. Upfront that you aren’t free- it’s literally a shelf app come on - instant delete

Not free

Shelfy is not free!! It does not have a free option, you have to pick a plan in order to continue using it. The developer says there is a free version but it does not!! If there is a free option it would be nice to be able to select it instead of only having a payment options.

Don’t download

Found Shelfy on instragram downloaded it but it is not free at all you get a 3 day pass then have to do a payment for just having a virtual shelf. In concept it’s cool and looks nice but paying à app to just have a virtual shelf and on top of that they still track a bunch of your personal data it’s not cool at all don’t bother with Shelfy

No free basic option

I never subscribe to an app unless I've tried it for a while and am impressed. There are so many book trackers. It's not worth it. There's a ton of similar critical reviews. The developer keeps saying there is a free version but I couldn't get to it. I think they're deliberately making it exceptionally hard to find.

You have to pay

Not a free app, I saw Shelfy on instagram as a add. I read a lot of books so when I saw a cute app to keep track I was excited. Yet, when I go to use Shelfy it kept asking for a subscription. This looks like a good app but I don’t have to have to pay for it just to keep track of the books I read. Very misleading!

Paid app

I read a few reviews and decided to give this a try. It’s supposed to be free but it won’t let you past the subscription screen and wants you to subscribe. Most other apps let you bypass the subscription screen to let you see if you like it first before being forced to subscribe. Deleting Shelfy immediately.

NO FREE FEATURES

Downloaded for the cute way to track books. After going through the initial set up process you come to a page where it offers a subscription. I was able to bypass that by exiting out payment method however not able to get pass the “1 year subscription” coupon. No way to exit out of it.

Not Free

I thought this would be a great app for my TBR list. I went through the whole process of personalizing my this app only to be asked what plan I would like to pay for after a 3 day free trial. It would be a lot better to know upfront Shelfy will cost a minimum of $4.99 a month. I can store photos of books in my camera roll for free, thanks. I then deleted Shelfy.

Wow, a Three Day Trial

THIS IS NOT A FREE APP. I’m getting tired of these apps that make you go through an entire process to personalize your experience and then turn around and go: oop you need to enter card information to go ANY further. There should be a free version. Period. No free trial, which you only get three days, just a free version. I can understand a plus version for more extensive content. Uninstalling now.

Cool Idea but Not Worth the $

I LOVE the idea of a cute virtual bookshelf of what you’ve read (audio, physical, or ebook) but having to pay for basic access… not about it! I can understand paying extras for certain things or even earning free items like wallpapers, statues, etc. It just seems a little bit of a waste of hard earned money and a way to try and target hard core readers to spend that money. Just my opinion!

Too many performance issues.

App sounds great, if I am able to experience it in full. For the yearly price I’m paying, I hope to use Shelfy to its full experience. Issues with searching and adding a book, issue with the discovery section being blank or not able to load anything on the pages. Customer support lacks in responses. Seems like I wasted my $$ on this. Hoping I can get a partial refund or something. Not worth the $$ or subscription

Don’t waste your time

I couldn’t even try it. It says 3 day trial so I was like okay great. Then it gave me this “limited offer” but you couldn’t click out of it. I was gonna pay anything until the 3 day free trial was over . So I just deleted app.

Looks free but isn’t

It is free to download but after doing some small set up questions you can’t do anything else until you set up a subscription account

Misleading

I downloaded Shelfy because I like the cute virtual bookshelf where it looks like your books are on an actual shelf but I can’t figure out how to do that. I can only do a list. It has some cool features tho but I just wanted a cute customizable virtual library like I saw in the adds.

Quite an enjoyable experience

So I’m going to write a review now so I don’t forget to, and I’ll update my review as I use Shelfy more as it’s only been a few days.

So far I really like it. I love having the bookshelf and being able to customize it. I’ve had some issues with the sorting where I sort by authors last name and some books won’t group together but it’s really no biggie.

I think my main complaint is the discover section, which I was most excited for. I love that it tells me what book I’ve already read that the suggested book is similar to, but the description of the book doesn’t help much. Also, it just likes to show me the same books over and over which was disappointing.

Other than that, I find it’s been motivating me to read a lot more :) it’s very user friendly and aesthetically pleasing as well.

Excellent

I haven’t ever felt like a book space was the right one for me until now! The shelves are so cute and customizable. The customer service and response to questions along with great updates is worth the annual fee!
