There is absolutely no reason to be using AI generated images of these birds, all of which are real and have easily accesible public domain photos of them on the internet. As a bird lover, it’s very disappointing to see someone use AI rather than the beautiful already existing images of these birds considered how it contributes to harming the environment these birds rely on. Not to mention, relying on AI has resulted in some of these birds not being depicted accurately which is very disappointing. Please do better.

I have a lot of friends, and none of us use Instagram. This has been a FANTASTIC alternative to writing them actual letters or just “keeping up” in a group chat. I love that I can learn more about the birds and the silly little descriptions of them in the codex.
The app is still really new, so there’s bugs, but the devs have been soooo on top of things and super responsive when I send emails about stuff.
Highly recommend trying this with your friends. Have yet to try the pen pal feature, want to soon.

my boyfriend sent me an invite to this app, and i downloaded it because the idea was really funny to me! however, once i opened the app and made an account, i discovered that each "pigeon" option was an image generated by ai, and i found that extremely disappointing. i feel that it really isn't that difficult to just find ethical, real-life images of these animals instead of using a robot to create something that already exists. these images don't even have to be special in any way, just something *real*. seeing that's it's filled to the brin with ai generated slop, it makes it feel much less real/human, and it's upsetting. i think it would be great if the developers of this app used such already-existing resources rather than wasting natural resources to generate these living beings with a robot.
