This app doesn’t work properly

So I bought Kalam wanting to learn Arabic because I was already doing a pretty good job with speaking Arabic by using other apps like Duolingo and watching TV shows and I also heard that it can also teach me how to understand Quranic Arabic. So I pay $30 for Kalam and I put in the dialect I wanna learn and so far it’s teaching me some pretty basic stuff that I should know about the language which is pretty good but then after like the first two lessons Kalam started glitching out and I literally thought that my mic was broken because it wasn’t picking up what I was saying so then I kept on refreshing Kalam . I even reset my phone and yet it still wasn’t working so what I’m gonna do now is I’m gonna contact Apple to get a refund because I don’t wanna lose $30 for an app that didn’t even teach me anything and it was all buggy so if you want my opinion, don’t get Kalam it’s just gonna scam you and it’s too buggy

Qalam app issues

My name is Ahmed. I am requesting that my refund rejection be overturned.

I used Qalam Hi through the free trial and did not intend to continue or pay because Kalam did not function as advertised and did not live up to the hype.

Kalam is extremely glitchy. Core features such as speaking/microphone functions, lessons, tests, scrolling, and dialect switching frequently do not work or freeze, making Kalam unusable. Because of these issues, I was unable to properly evaluate or use Kalam during the trial period.

Many recent reviews report the same problems, showing these are ongoing issues. Since Kalam failed to deliver the promised functionality and I did not want to proceed past the free trial, I respectfully request that this charge be refunded.

Thank you for your consideration.

So many bugs, dialects not accurate

There are too many bugs. Selecting options doesn’t work. It is blank when you try to do the quiz. The dialect challenge doesn’t work at all. When switching dialects, nothing changes and the lesson was not in the correct dialect. Why would we pay so much for a subscription when Kalam looks like it is still being set up?

They lie about teaching Egyptian dialect

I am trying to learn Egyptian Arabic because my husband is Egyptian and we’re going to Egypt soon. I have been using a tutor but I would prefer to use an app like this because I have social anxiety and find it hard to learn with someone teaching me. Kalam lets you select Egyptian dialect but it is a complete scam. Even the first lesson I can tell it is not teaching Egyptian dialect because of the way they say hello and how are you is very distinctive. I am greatly disappointed.

It seemed great but they need to fix the glitches if not you’ll just get scammed

I got Kalam , when I was on it it was great for like 5 mins but then I closed Kalam and it kicked me out of my account. I thought I was tripping but no it’s Kalam . I ended up paying twice and can’t get back in. I’m not sure if this is done purposely, I genuinely hope it’s not but it seems like it’s happening to everyone and since they don’t have any customer service it’s seems mad sketch. I’m disputing with my bank because I’m not gonna pay for a service that just steals my money without getting anything in return. I hope the you get new developers or the ones you currently have fix this issue.

No Customer Service

I’ve emailed and even contacted their tiktok, no response. They just take your money and dip. When you sign up for a free trial there is only one option which is to pay $54 for the whole year after the trial. Unfortunately I didn’t receive any notification before the payment and was charged $54 although I didn’t want to continue. I contacted them many times but they never responded back. I’m a college student, this is something I cannot lose wallahi haram 3aleykom. Kalam glitches a lot and is very frustrating to track your progress.

Please give me my refund.

Glitchy App

I really liked the speaking feature in the lessons… but idk what’s wrong with Kalam because every so often, it’ll make a mistake (what’s written doesn’t match what’s being said) or it will start repeating itself over and over and then suddenly say a completely different word and not let me speak.

Inaccurate Palestinian dialect

Coming from an Arabic background and intermediate level of speaking and having studied the language in college….

The biggest issue is the incorrect pronunciation of Palestinian dialect words. The most glaring example is that the AI pronounces the ق , whereas Palestinians generally do not (qahwa vs ahwa). There is clearly a ton of AI usage here. The AI conversation trainer is cool but i’d rather wait for an app I can trust to try that again.

Overall, the pedagogy of the lessons is simply not good. There is not nearly enough repetition for it to be effective. It’s just going through the motions.

Also, Kalam hears my answers less than half the time.

App is glitchy

The content and lessons on Kalam are good. But the audio is sometimes glitchy or doesn’t work at all, which is frustrating because hearing the correct pronunciation is essential. Also, after paying for a year’s subscription and completing several lessons, now Kalam has kicked me off. To get back in, Kalam is asking me to buy a subscription again. I’m waiting to hear back from customer support. But I’m worried that my progress will not be saved and I’ll have to start the lessons over again.

Some tweaks

I really enjoy Kalam but it’s kind of confusing to operate. For example when I’m trying to do the “free talk” to practice having a conversation, the mic doesn’t work and I definitely don’t know how to type in Arabic to respond. The free talk doesn’t seem to record. Also I did two courses where I saw a video, did the drill and also the quiz but there’s no way I can review those specific words I used and apply it without going back to the drill. It was also kind of discouraging when my Iraqi husband heard the new words I learned join just for him to correct me.. it’s like I’m learning a whole different Iraqi dialect :( also I want to learn the basics of conversation and they don’t seem to have that. Just random words and conversations thrown at you

Needs some fixes

So, it’s okay if you’re only using the “free talk” section and already know how to read and type in Arabic. The speaking option and tests don’t work. If you click on a test and try to use the microphone, it locks and doesn’t let you go on to the next question or record anything you say. I’m also not confident that the dialects are fully using words from those dialects rather than mostly utilizing fusha (MSA). If they are, they’re specific regional dialects within the country. I think a good update to Kalam would be to select regional dialects within the country (North vs South) since there are some pretty big differences there. It’s quite similar to just speaking to a chatbot in Modern Standard Arabic. If they could hire different people that already speak the dialects I think there could be some good improvements. Great idea overall, just needs some work

Want five!

I really wanna give this at five stars. However, as other reviewers have mentioned, it does seem that it’s in it growing pains of development still or maybe they’re just working the stuff out. Every time I start Kalam I have to go through the questions of what my preferences are what my interest interests are my age and it’s kind of annoying. I just wanna open Kalam and get going. I wonder if this is an issue with the fact that I use Kalam Store to create my login or if it’s an app issue however even with the glitches that occasionally occur if this part was fixed, I would use Kalam constantly. It just takes me forever to get going either way It is pretty great. I’ve never seen an app that engages the learner the way this does in so many different dialects with relatively high accuracy

The app is great but on pages of the app I’d doesn’t let you seem to scroll all the way down

For example when I am doing a test it doesn’t let me scroll down to choose the last option or it doesn’t let me scroll down to use the dialect challenge feature, I want to get the subscription but don’t know if it is worth it due to the bugs. Hope you can fix it soon!

How to start lessons?

I answered all the questions and I cant find out how to do the lessons. It's only asking for me to buy a free trial. Now I don't know if I have to pay for Kalam or if it is just glitching, so if you really NEED to pay to use Kalam, then I probably won't be using it because I can't buy things.

Great app, still new

Im Lebanese and I’ve been trying to learn specifically the Lebanese dialect to talk to my family. Duolingo, mondly, jumpspeak, all those other apps teach the formal arabic. And they teach useless info. this app is the first app I’ve seen where you can choose a specific dialect, and that has so many options of topics to learn. However, it’s all speaking. There’s no deep dive into the letters and how to read and write. So if you’re looking to learn how to speak, Kalam is great. But if you want to become literate in arabic, Kalam will not do that. But again, I love Kalam for its uses and options of topics and dialects!

Good

This is good i have been moved to my new aribic house all my aribic new family members are there but i don’t understand so i got Kalam i used it for 7 days but it showed my do apple account or google i did apple but when i was done it did not work pls fix this i need to understand my new family :(

No customer service available

There is NO customer service available. Unit 0 has an error in the quiz, thus doesn’t let me proceed to the next level. So my money is wasted now. Because I can’t do anything with Kalam . I am very disappointed. Because Kalam seems a great tool to learn Arabic.

Quick learning

I needed to learn Arabic quick so I downloaded Kalam. In 2 weeks I was able to have a conversation with some family members no problem.

I’ve actually learned

I’ve been using it for 2 weeks now and I can confidently say I’ve learned over 100 phrases that I’ve tested w my Arab friends!

Kalam Review

this app helped me become more confident in speaking arabic, I had just got engaged to my fiancé and she spoke better arabic than me, with this app app’s help, I was able to match her arabic within a couple of weeks! Thank you this app, I highly recommend people to try it out
