Music will not download with reel unless shared directly with IG after. Ok no big deal. But then you can’t save it as a draft? Please fix. Would be great to see the ghost layout of where things natively appear when people browse reels so we don’t spend time adding in text only to find it covered. In the reels editor on IG you at least get grid marks that snap your text into place and show you the top and bottom threshold. Also make it easy to extend text to the whole clip. Dragging is so tedious and takes too much time on longer videos. Overall I’m not a huge reel creator so not really seeing why this is much different than in IG.
*and the stars keep falling. Edits made me update IG when sharing the reel directly (only way it will let you use music!) and now all my drafts are gone.

When I first opened the app, I was in love with it. However, I quickly realized how glitchy it was. It kept freezing and telling me it couldn’t play my audio and I would have to completely exit the app. Not to mention that I adjusted the volume on every clip, only for it to not save the setting on random ones requiring me to rewatch it over and over and keep adjusting clips multiple times.
Plus, it just lags. It took hours to edit a video that would’ve taken 30 minutes in CapCut without glitches to slow me down.
I do love the interface and the new fonts. It’s very easy to use… when it works.

Two stars for effort. As someone with 25 years in web and UI design and extensive experience with various editing apps, I was excited to try Instagram’s new ‘Edit’ app. It turned out to be a massive disappointment. The only slightly redeeming feature is easy access to Instagram music, but everything else falls flat. The app prioritizes pointless features like tracking ideas and inspiration—something nobody needs from a video editor—while completely neglecting essential tools like reversing clips or applying common filters, transitions, and effects. It claims to offer high-quality footage and 4K exports without watermarks, but that’s a bare minimum expectation. The core functionality is severely lacking; it feels like a rushed, underdeveloped product that’s nowhere near ready for prime time. If Instagram wants to compete with heavyweights like CapCut, they need to bring something innovative to the table. Right now, it’s just a half-baked imitation that fails to deliver anything new or worthwhile. If you’re serious about video editing, stick to what you know works. Instagram should focus on improving their main app and put developers’ time into fixing existing bugs instead of wasting resources on a half-hearted attempt to compete
