Missed Opportunity and Anti-Consumerism

Nintendo Today is a great concept, but only remains that way as Nintendo fails to represent any meaningful content in their app as of the time I am writing this review. For example, information as simple as the pre-order date of Switch 2 and the price are completely omitted and in there place are some funny pictures of Nintendo characters in upcoming games. Furthermore, Nintendo hasn’t revealed much information about Mario Kart World justifying its extreme price jump to $80, leaving Nintendo fans in the dust about their games. That isn’t even going into the questionable UI where you have to continuously scroll down to get the information you want rather than organizing what you want to read by type. This is a shame because they started off so promising by revealing the Zelda movie date, but ever since there has been a noticeable absence of truly substantial information.

Barebones in its current state

I love Nintendo and their games, so Miyamoto showing up at the end of today’s Direct made me ecstatic… only for it to be a reveal for Nintendo’s third Switch-tied app. Downloaded it out of curiosity, and at the moment that’s all it is. A curio for Nintendo fans. At least in my opinion, real life events and holidays should have been mixed in with Nintendo game events, to make the calendar actually useful to check in your day to day, with the added benefit of cute Nintendo characters showing up on it. Instead, unless your whole life revolves around new SNES games coming to NSO, it’s not practical at all. Notifications are nice, but if you have them on for multiple things I could see it getting annoying with sound on. It would be like getting buzzed from 10 different apps except they’re all actually one app. The activities in your feed are fine but why they take up the vertical calendar widget space is beyond me, oh boy a new Mario render I’ve seen before, how newsworthy.

So as of the day it was announced, this is almost entirely useless, and if the Switch Online app is anything to go by, I doubt Nintendo will be in a hurry to improve it. If they do though, this could be pretty sick, but at the moment it’s nowhere near essential.

When are we getting the iPad app?

I think this is an interesting app that is useful sometimes but also gimmicky. I really don’t know why Nintendo apps are only compatible with iPhone (Except the Switch App), and it’s really stupid that a fix isn’t added. The iPad came out forever ago, and even I know it would be easy just make an app that works with it. I think NintendoToday was a cool idea, but there isn’t enough to keep me opening it every day. The Nintendo switch 2 today’s are disappointing 8/10 times with “case openings” and a single feature reveal… If anyone important at Nintendo is reading this I like your app, but again it just needs the basic things. (At least we got calendar integration)

Amazing, but…

I love this concept of delivering new and all games-related content.

My only complaint is that you’re not showing a list (or tab) of released games marked on a calendar, even for indie or third-party titles, even if it’s a very small game.

Please provide this feature, since most of us have busy lives and it’s difficult to keep track. A notification like “Here are the games releasing today” would be great, and then you could archive them in the calendar so we can look back and see what was released.

Need some accessibility work

I downloaded NintendoToday last night and I understand it’s a brand new app so I can’t fault Nintendo for this. However, I had to label the buttons at the bottom of the page or should I say NintendoToday because I didn’t know what they were. My speech was trying to read them and I had to do some labeling for the buttons so that my speech would read them. I use VoiceOver on an iPhone SE three. I’m really hoping that Nintendo will at least go in and make some adjustments for those of us who use either magnification, braille, or speech output such as voiceover. I would even like to work with them on this so that this could be accomplished. This would be a neat app to continue And get news from.

It's a good app, but it's new

NintendoToday is still relatively new and needs fine tuning, but it's incredibly useful. It allows me to view in-game events and activities as well as dares for things such as smaller nintendo directs. The main things keeping my rating down are the facts that there isn't a system that allows you to view smaller things such as concept arts from previous dates, and that for some reason, the ausio won't play unless I have headphones in (and for apple phones, that can be a pain).

Shuffling themes

I love that you can choose a theme to go with your Nintendo calendar, but I’ve got some pretty cool improvements such as. shuffling through the game themes every time you open that app. How there is an option “display randomly without selecting” and I think it changes every day but I want to see every game and it’s own animation and going though the setting and choosing the game each time is just kinda annoying. Also a 4x4 widget would be nice.

Getting there!

Not putting 5 stars not because its not great, but because it has minor improvements here and there. One important note: if you are to announce a new version available, make sure that the user has such version when reading the announcement. I found myself not seeing the new features listed, only to realize my app was not yet updated to such version. Either add a new version pop-up or filter out the rendering of certain articles based on app version. Hope this helps. Keep it up!!

Needs some work

NintendoToday runs well but I have a few notes. When I go into settings then pick my preferred first day of the week I am unable to dismiss the pop up by clicking outside the pop up. When playing the Nintendo Direct video the sound does not play when my phone on silent mode on my phone speakers. In other apps if you adjust the volume the video’s sound will start to play on silent mode.

Fantastic app but pls include certain things

I would really like a widescreen player mode for videos. I know I’m not the only one but having to watch a video with my phone upright instead of moving it horizontally for a wider picture is brutal. This is an easy fix. Another UI thing, I know it’s probably a lot but c’mon we need some music in NintendoToday. Just a standard Nintendo-like jingle on the main page would really do wonders for the presentation. These are the only gripes I could think of off the top of my head and I hope updates will allow for this in the future. PLEASE NINTENDO. Otherwise, this is an absolute delight for hardcore fans.

Super cool and feels necessary

NintendoToday does good at what it sets out to do, marking all of the dates where a Nintendo related event should happen, such as game releases and Nintendo Directs, and it’s definitely useful and should be downloaded by any active Nintendo fan. It’s also able to notify you when an in-game event happens in certain games, such as game event in Super Mario Run, and even notifies you of limited time Nintendo Switch Online icons. That could’ve been it, but they also decided to offer custom themes, wallpapers, widgets, and overall they took a good idea and maximized its potential. With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, I could only imagine what they’d be able to do with NintendoToday in the future!

Fun and interactive little news app. New update fixes issues.

I love how interactive NintendoToday is and how good the feel is. Upon entering it, Mario pops up from below to serve as a little jumpscare, and you get to choose how you customize your calendar preferences.

Ever since I joined Twitter last year, I only saw Nintendo post there or through Instagram. They share what new announcements they had to offer, but the lack of diversity for Twitter today is minimal and really small. Nintendo only posts on most social media outlets, but they never made an app so that they can keep it all in one place.

Now that Nintendo Today is here, basically all the Nintendo news is directly at the palm of your hand and finger tips!

NintendoToday is simple, it’s expressive and intuitive, it’s also iconic let’s not forget. If you’re into Super Mario or any of your favorite Nintendo franchises and ips, this is NintendoToday that caters the news for you and right to your smart device!

Good app and good price

Good app. But y’all the switch 2 is at a good price it’s got 120 fps and a 1080p screen and a dock that can make it better (depending on your tv) the games with switch two editions cost more because they give you more stuff, but Zelda’s is bad, the only thing I will use it for is voice memory’s, but it’s included in Nintendo Switch online + expansion…which I have so I don’t really care. Plus this isn’t the place to complain about it, do it somewhere else. Just be thankful that tariffs aren’t making it worse… other then delaying the preorder but that’s gonna be ok, trump is a better president than Biden and kamalamaha Harris. I will preorder the switch two and nothing can stop me

Very amazing app

NintendoToday is really amazing. It shows you the calendar events between animal Crossing, and when the next Mario kart eight deluxe and super smash Bros tournament will be it also includes when the soundtrack comes out from the Nintendo Music app. I really do enjoy it so much and I am so thankful that this is out right now and I am powered and thankful to say that I’m a Nintendo fan and I’m thankful Nintendo made NintendoToday for people who want to follow the updates and schedule of whatever events they’re having Nintendo you really know what you’re doing

Why you should get this app, (and get Nintendo music).

NintendoToday is amazing, I love how I know when things are coming up and I’m super hyped for Nintendo switch too, it gives me details about everything I need from Mario to literally anything that Nintendo has to offer or to show. If your a Nintendo lover like me and the rest of us, I would suggest getting NintendoToday, also Nintendo if you read these, I would love to have totk music on Nintendo music.
-you’re Nintendo fan!!!!!

Great but … (Edit)

NintendoToday is great as a Nintendo fan and kind of replaces the Calendar app for me. However right now with the videos they have for showcasing, there is no sound. Maybe in a future update they will fix this; for right now it’s going to be a four star dog.
Edit: Okay so found out why I couldn’t hear anything. I had to take it off from Silent and turn Ring on. I am now embarrassed and I don’t mind sharing that because I’m brave, I’m strong and buful 😅

An adorable app for your morning routine ☀️☕️

If you are like me who likes to read in their phone while eating breakfast or before going to work, NintendoToday is just for you! It is very easy navigate around it and it gives you a variety of features to use as your background image. It also gives you daily news of the games you are most interested in or any other updates from Nintendo including the Directs!💕

LOVE IT

I am an autistic person with a major and main interest in Nintendo... and NintendoToday is like an absolute DREAM to me.
I spend lots of time on the My Nintendo and Play Nintendo websites, and NintendoToday seems to have inspirations from both in a very fun way. Getting to see so many Nintendo series- Fire Emblem, Kirby, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Mario, and more- all together on one app and scrolling through posts makes me really really happy! I love seeing the series share the same space and blend together and all the Nintendo goodness!
I also love having a daily Nintendo thing to look forward to! Directs are rare and Nintendo Music is weekly, so having a little bit of Nintendo every day has already brightened my days so much. Thank you for such a wonderful app!

Great app, just one problem

I love NintendoToday, it is very useful. I just wish that, for the design, I could pick between different Zelda games to theme it after, like Ocarina of Time, or Skyward Sword, as I don’t really like Tears of the Kingdom all that much. And, please add a Metroid Design, you have a brand new Prime game, but you aren’t even going to let us use a Metroid design? Those are just a few nitpicks, really great app, does what it’s supposed to very well.

Great app cool idea done nicely

I think NintendoToday was for. Very nicely and I downloaded it a while ago I enjoy watching the shorts on their seeing news about the Nintendo switch 2 and more if I had one thing I would like added it would be to be able to change the calmer icons like mine is pikmin and their all blue but I think if they were different colors it might be easier to navigate buts that’s just me any ways great app ten out of ten thx for making it free I would hate to pay for this
