Give a little, get a lot

I definitely understand what they’re trying to do here, and I know a lot of people are going to use Oasis once and then never open it again. That’s almost what I was about to do, I’m sure. For this reason, they put all of the information behind a pay wall. It essentially makes the “free” download of Oasis useless.

That said, I’m an avid water drinker. I travel a lot for work and really only drink water — maybe the occasional coffee or tea — and I’m constantly trying to find good, delicious, refreshing water to drink everywhere. So, I’d pay $5/mo but I’m not going to do that if there isn’t an opportunity for me to try Oasis . Pay $5 for the first month but then offer the second month free, I don’t know the answer exactly. But, for a seemingly basic app like this, and I’m sure a lot of work went into the information so the design is a bit of a second priority, you’d think there would be some kind of incentive.

Other apps like Flighty, TV Forecast, and others that I use cost significantly less with just as much data going into it with a better design.

This feedback is for the developer. I’d recommend considering some of the above.

Scam

First, there is no way to use it without paying for subscription, at least they give you 3 days trial. Second, the search is slow or broken. It might take 10 minutes for your photo request to process. Main problem is that Oasis just going to scare you. A lot of safe ingredients will be market as harmful just because there some rumors, if 10 research articles claim the ingredient is safe and 1 claims it’s bad - this ingredient will be scored as bad. Oasis is biased for brands. I compare results to Yuka - same thing overall but many responses contradict each other. Yuka might save product is good and Oasis might say it’s bad and vice versa. There is no trust. But hey, your brand might pay for Oasis to get good core I guess. So, what the point of Oasis?

Used to be a Free service, now charges monthly

It’s honestly so sad to get in on Oasis when it was a free service being used to help people find healthier sources of water. Now it’s a paid subscription service and has a lot of different ratings of other products. Really though I wish you kept it free to help folks out and if money really is an issue, I’m sure people would be fine with seeing an ad, or having banner ads in there. I know it’s not very *aesthetic*, though it would allow people to choose healthier products and provide ads for the healthier options as well.
I cannot in good faith leave a positive review until something changes.
Shame to see this happen but I understand the reasoning.

Do not sign up for membership

Oasis states that Failure to cancel membership will not result in no refunds however Oasis glitches and crash every-time you attempt to cancel your membership and does not go through. I’m not sure what game this company is playing but I have emailed them to inform them of this and to cancel my trial. Please give send them a written email if you wish you cancel to have it on record. Not allowing refunds, but also not allowing members to cancel is insane.

Glitches

Oasis is glitchy all over - I can’t see the full list of reviews for water or shower filters at the moment which is literally the only reason I got the premium subscription just now. And as I’m searching for specific products like the truvani chocolate protein powder, also not loading. Their most recent pricing is $47 per year which is a waste for this poorly developed app. Also find it sketchy that they only offer annual subscriptions vs monthly or weekly. Signals to me they lack confidence in their product’s ability to retain users and now I know why! Don’t get premium until they release some major improvements

Don’t Waste your Time

This used to be a free, quick to access website with helpful information. Now it’s paid, less than helpful and the information appears to be inaccurate. Example MVS water 5 gallon in glass and is ranked very low but the 1 liters are top ranked. Based on the SAME out of date water quality report.

I hate to leave a scathing review — i know a lot of time and effort went into this. But you seem to have spent alot of time figuring out how to monetize and playing around with app development rather than just making the web app better and “hosting isn’t free, buy me a coffee”

misleading, unhelpful, and overpriced

most of the information is locked behind a paywall. already annoying, but I decided to give the free trial a fair shake to see if the 50 DOLLARS a year (already steep in my opinion for public information) is worth it. Straight up didn’t work. I started the subscription with a promised free trial, nothing happened, still wants me to pay. Maybe a bug, if I were to give the benefit of the doubt? either way, promised a free trial, lied to in an effort to sign up for a subscription. a little sketchy.

App is unusable unless you pay

Oasis costs $30 a year, although it isn’t expensive. Oasis is unusable without paying; you can’t see any of the scores they give, which is the most significant part of Oasis . The free version doesn’t even allow you to scan water, even if it’s just a limited amount. It’s a good idea in theory; however, with how limited they make the free version of Oasis , it’ll turn away many potential customers as people can’t even experience it without paying.

App buggy as hell

Just installed and paid for this, since it’s theoretically a valuable service… however Oasis is nearly unusable… buggy as hell. For example, even when selecting a predefined category at the main screen, Oasis toggles erroneously to scan an item. Basic searches don’t produce results and when they do, the history later disappears. Really disappointed straight out of the gate.

Good concept, bad execution

Really love the idea of Oasis. However, there are major problems. Oasis is very glitchy. Some pages don’t load, some links lead to the wrong information, lots of error messages. And the info is inconsistent and unreliable. The only “lab testing” I’ve seen comes from the company of the products. There is not consistent independent third party testing. Ratings arent consistent and dont make sense. Disappointing!

Account required

I would recommend allowing users to browse some of the unpaywalled content before being required to create an account.

Being 100% blocked by a sign in screen is a poor onboarding experience.

Why would I as a user provide contact information until I have at least a minimal sense of whether Oasis works on my device and provides some value?

Useful but not worth $4

This is something I might open a few times each year, but to charge $4 a month, and you have to pay for it all upfront is ridiculous.

If you want to reach more people, make it free and put in ads promoted water with high scores so it pays for itself or something.

Is $47 a lot of money, no, but for an app that I’ll probably forget I have until I try to buy a bottle of water from a gas station on a road trip, absolutely.

Spring water bottling locations change

I like the idea behind Oasis , but it doesn’t help me. I do a lot of traveling on the road and will buy gallons of springwater at the store. In Michigan, I try to get my water from the Muskegon River watershed, which ice mountain qualifies for but not Meijer Spring water (Kalamazoo). Basically all the water that I consume is not in Oasis and it doesn’t help me at all and I’ve already been charged for it, so it’s useless to me. Now I’m at the crossroads of refilling my water bottles with well water or buying a water filter.

Verdict still out

Love what they are trying to do with Oasis and look forward to seeing it grow. Right now I’m skeptical of the data due to what seems like inaccuracies. For instance, a can of coke has a higher recommendation than a can of sparkling water like Waterloo or spindrift. I understand they are in different scoring categories and at the same time, there has to be a better way to explain something like that in Oasis without having to reference the scoring guide. It’s an interesting challenge to overcome and I wish you luck!

Use critical thinking/discernment with some of the criteria

Oasis has been helpful/insightful as to the hidden chemicals and heavy metals that can be lurking. I learned about a lot of brands who have forever chemicals, even radioactive chemicals in them 🥲 but use critical thinking for some of the criteria and notes. I would use the score as a guideline and follow up as to why it is that score. For example, a small farm that produces raw milk was scored 0 because it’s unpasteurized. If you know, you know. I also don’t like that they flag fluoride but don’t explicitly explain the neurological damage fluoride has proven to cause.

Very necessary!

Highly needed app in a time where there is so much pollution in our daily environments. Love the fact that the research is crowdfunded. Only critique is Oasis can be a little buggy! Some buttons don’t work and the back button takes you allll the way to the main menu. Otherwise, great job!

Update/fix bugs and recommendations

When you open Oasis the shower filters and bottle filters category are broke and can’t scroll down to see the full image cover of the category also when you open a category the items should be in order from best rated to least also could be a arrow like how x (formally Twitter) can organize comments to see most relevant to press to see certain things or organize it like see plastic product or glass products only, tending , etc Also updating phot profile is broken dosent work and is glitchy.

All The Drinking Water Information I needed In One Place

I was looking into installing a new water system in my home and utilized the pro version of Oasis to help me decide what would be the best drinking water for my family. Very informative information all in one place!

Peace of mind

If you can start looking at instagram videos from this app water for 30 min it will change your life and the way you think about your health and the health of your family now and in the future.

Instantly obsessed!

I dream of a world where everyone has Oasis! It makes water education, awareness and safety easily accessible and practical. Love the feature to buy and source high quality filters right from Oasis . I’m in love and will be recommending to everyone!
