I bought this display as a way to get me and my household organized and on track with our to-do’s and events.
It’s insane to me why the basic features (to do lists and routines) are a part of a premium membership when the main purpose of this device is just that - family organization. I could understand premium features such as a smart assistant or alerts in conflicts for the calendars - things that are “nice to have” vs absolutely bare minimum.
It was an expensive device that is literally just an oversized digital calendar if you don’t have the membership of 9.99/month. It’s wild and just not worth the investment.
Unless the entire business model changes, I don’t recommend this device or HearthCompanionApp . Such a disappointment.
Frustrated that you have to pay $10 for the routines and basic functions. Its still in such the beginning stages that they should be paying people to use their product while they develop it…instead they are charging people an outrageous amount for what should be included. There are way better options out there that have a lot more features and less glitches for a fraction of the cost.
I took a chance with the Hearth because I like how it looked but the development has been unbearably slow. Also, please make the routines more engaging and fun so my kids actually want to do it. Being able to have a point system or something would greatly help. That way I can reward them at the end of the week if they stay consistent.
I hope things get better but until then mine is collecting dust in the garage.
So many bugs; freezes often, updates never saving for events or routines, time zones are too hard to adjust with hundreds of options on HearthCompanionApp vs the standard ones on the web version, and the scrolling calendar display won’t let you look to previous days! I’m using the web version over HearthCompanionApp daily now.
HearthCompanionApp is fairly basic and doesn’t offer much in terms of standout features. For the price, I expected more functionality, especially the ability to search for events, which should be a standard feature. Navigation is fine, but the lack of essential tools makes it feel incomplete. It’s usable, but for what you pay, it doesn’t quite meet expectations.
As a hearth owner, this calendar hub has been disappointing. I was hopeful that upgrades would steady (and quickly) roll in. They haven’t. It does little more than digitize 2 things we had on our refrigerator already. For the cost, I would expect ability to make lists, specifically GROCERY LISTS (come on Hearth, at this point it’s ridiculous you don’t have this), pull up recipes, possibly watch videos (for tutorials/recipes), keep vital info for caregivers like emergency numbers etc. I like the portability of the new app, and being able to add things to our home calendar remotely, but I could have done this with many of the other brands out there who offer 10x the functionality at a fraction of the cost.
First of all yay that there’s an app now!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 But please add grocery lists to the mix! And a better calendar view (get rid of the dots and list format - have it look like the Hearth does with the events listed on their day in a month / week / day mode. Also the subscription is way too much. Unless you’re rolling out new awesome features every month… $10/month is so high for what we get. Our last calendar app before this we used for years (it didn’t have a large $600 screen tho for home use) and it was $30 to buy HearthCompanionApp … one time fee. And it had way more features than this. 🙁
To pay $600 for what amounts to nothing more than your calendar on a screen is extremely disappointing. I bought this display on pre-order as the marketing appealed directly to what I wanted - a full featured family management system in a visually appealing package. The only thing delivered on was a nice looking screen. ANY USEFUL FEATURE (and there are few at this time) requires a ‘premium membership’ to utilize. I understand the subscription model and am happy to subscribe to them when there’s value to be had; that said, for $600 I’d expect to at the VERY least have the weather displayed on the screen with my calendars.
What you appear to get with premium (though I can’t even subscribe yet, see below):
-routines
-to-do’s
-hearth helper (not sure what this is yet)
-weather
-display preferences
In my opinion, the above features are what I would have expected to get in the bare-bones membership, as I don’t see any of these functions as very ‘premium’. There appears to be no ‘lists’ function, no ‘notes’, no emergency contacts or SOS functionality, no photo display/screensaver… the endless possibilities of what could be just don’t exist…. It seems they have spent way too much in marketing and way too little on product development.
Here’s the other mystifying thing - you can’t even subscribe to the premium membership through their website - you need to email them to get set up. That’s just bad business and I can’t imagine how many people are just posting these on Facebook marketplace the second they see this functional omission.
Anyways, this is a bit harsh sounding, but it’s the reality of things. I truly do hope they can roll out some updates to make this feel like something worth the money. There’s a huge amount of potential - integrations of lists with shopping outlets like Target or Amazon, integrations with Recipe websites, some form of rewards system for kids that links to a toy/product they can earn by completing routines or tasks… these are all potential revenue streams for Hearth and improvements for the end-user.
Super glad to have HearthCompanionApp available now but it’s a touch glitchy. Updates made to an event in HearthCompanionApp (version 1.1.0) are not working. Like if you have to change the time of something, it doesn’t register. Had to use the web app. Not the end of the world but definitely looking forward to when some more glitches are worked out.
HearthCompanionApp is still pretty bare-bones, much like the web app and the calendar itself. I was expecting additional controls over display settings, but the only display setting available was adding a picture wallpaper. How about screen timeout settings? Photo reel screensaver? Different display designs? Font size? Also really disappointed there’s still no way to add a location to an event. That seems like a pretty important oversight. I assume the developers will add more functions as time goes on, but for now I find myself still using my Google calendar more.
HearthCompanionApp is really nice, and makes interaction with the display much easier!
The only suggestion I have would to be the addition of a shopping list (or lists in general). Would really make it the “complete package”.
Finally have visibility both in the home and on the go into my family’s schedule and chores. Life changing
