A Grindy Game With Potential

The game is incredibly grindy. You spend hours sometimes even days grinding away just to progress to the next “episode” (it’s what the levels are called). However, it is very addictive and has a ton of potential.

There is a discord they have (which is advertised in game) that has tips and tricks but be careful not to ask a question. You will be greeted with toxic, snarky and condescending comments. The moderators don’t investigate anything and will just ban anyone based on how they feel rather than investigating the facts. Definitely watch out for “TheSpark” he is one of the moderators on there who does exactly as in the aforementioned. The community is definitely something to avoid as it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and really misrepresents this game.

I think if the game works out episode progression to be a little quicker by boosting the rate at which stats increase and making other stats more impactful rather than just funneling all your leveling into Block Damage, it could be a lot more enjoying to play. It also needs a change in unit A.I as your units priority for attacking is definitely not efficient. You will see units being actively attacked but instead of attacking back, they attack the blocks in their environment first (blocks in environment are non-aggressive, resource yielding objects). This game has a ton of potential and I hope it actualizes that full potential.

Really interesting

Instead of other tower defense game where you focus buffing one or more stationary towers this game has you focus on getting strong troops and building their stats up and recruit more to attack the enemy troops for a unique take.
If your a fan on the genre it’s definitely worth a try but other than the unique take I wish there was more to it. Such as for now it seems you get one strong troop and you just invest everything in them and their seems to be no benefit to diversify your troops (at least so far). The permanent buffs so far also seem to be the standard fare of offense, defense and money buffs.
Ads are pretty light and progression is hugely boosted by so I’m surprised it is the one thing they chose not to monetize as their is no ad removal pack but there are double and triple basic currency ones.
There’s definitely more to this game so I’m surprised it promotes rating this game so early and hopefully I’ll update this soon with more details as I hope there is more to enjoy but it is pretty interesting so far.

The Army Review

In my opinion, I find this game really addicting.
I’ve already maxed out everything, (beside the 6000 upgrades.) I can’t really describe what more updates I would like however this game is so addicting. As your progress though it’s just the same pattern of beating the army in less then a minute and gets boring. Maybe add bosses or an infinite mode? Best yet, a rebirth system. Keep all your crowns/or don’t, (up to devs) allow to start over to grind up. I’ve also gotten to the point I don’t need diamonds, so would be nice to make them more of a necessity. Game still gets a 5 stars. Huge W!

Could’ve been great but…

This game is not ready for prime time.

I’m a regular gamer and I also love to play passive Idle Games when I don’t have the energy for the PS5.

While this game initially showed promise with a simple style and rewarding gameplay loop it unfortunately falls short in a number of areas.

First, the AD watching system is absolutely barbaric. Long, frequent ads are pretty much necessary to make even the most basic progress. Even more frustrating is the game’s blatant omission to pay for AD removal via any in app purchases. Why on earth would they make this decision??

Second, the AI of your troops is nothing short of abysmal. They’ll expose themselves to enemy attacks and yet ignore those enemies in favor of attacking non threatening walls, dragging progress to a crawl on anything but the first level.

I suggest adding a reasonable charge to remove ads (while keeping the rewards that would be offered) as well as improving AI. Some suggestions that could improve the gameplay loop regarding troop behavior could have an upgrade tab that allows players to prioritize their troop’s aggro and or targeting system (for example, setting Archer troops to attack enemies before walls or having healers target their healing spells on your lowest HP units).

Outside of any of these improvements, this game is positively dead on arrival. One bonus stat because I genuinely think the gameplay would be fun if either improvement were actually implemented.

Its a good game but..

I belive the game is fun and its obvious this is a rip of "The tower." Regardless, really fun and a nice take on the game. In update descriptions i recommend you write whats new and I hope you don't move onto the next game because it could be fun if you consistently kept updating this game.
I wish you good luck on your game making journey!

Good concept, bad implementation

It has the potential to be a really fun game. But you lose that when your units have been given the absolute worst targeting logic (your entire mass of units decides it's more worthwhile to attack the stationary blocks that don't hurt you while the enemy range units leisurely wipe out all of your attackers), and when which new unit you get is mostly random (seriously, you save up, spin a wheel and hope you get the unit you need for your strategy instead of the one that attacks too slowly, dies too quickly, and is too expensive to upgrade). I understand needing an element of randomness, but it feels like that has been put in all the wrong places.

To slow and ads to important

The ads are the only real way to progress in the game. Only way to make it play at any reasonable speed, as well as it only lasting about half a match. Only way to win most levels is with all the extra money from ads, upgrades are so expensive that if you don’t double your crowns after every match you gotta do another 7-10 min where you likely watch another 6 ads. Only ways to get any amount of diamonds is ads and the cards you buy from them are bugged anyway so that no matter how many duplicates you get it never counts towards the progression of the card. Game isn’t the worst but definitely needs a better way to at least speed up gameplay

So close to greatness

This game feels like a truly impressive passion project with an astonishing amount of work. The only problem is that you will never see most of that work. There are an astonishing amount of units but you’ll never use any of them because of the absurdly high price, the permanent progression seems like a great idea but it gives you such small boosts it feels like a sick joke, the decimals with the upgrades are plain asinine and the only way to progress is to waste either your time or your money on adds or gems. This game can be great with just a few tweaks to the design but at the time, I can’t recommend it.

Almost unplayable

Game is fun before episode two then your units somehow get even dumber they already attack walls instead of enemies and now they let ranged attackers hit them while they go for the harmless wall. You can barely even tell if your upgrades actually do anything and their pretty much useless for the first couple of episodes. Most of the other units you can unlock are appalling to actually see fight or heal. Game is slow and it drags on as long as possible then has the audacity to ask if you want to pay to speed it up. Purely a money grab built on a interesting premise a shame.

Ads Negatively Impact Gameplay

I actually enjoy playing the game quiet a bit, but the issue is that you spend more time watching ads then actually playing.

For example, new troop cost at the first level cost around 2.5k, but it’s near impossible to free farm that without watching an ad to get the bonus to get there.

My suggestion is to lower the cost of new troops as a start. This would help make the game more enjoyable rather than having to farm ads.

Nice game good for if your parents don’t want your volume loud

It’s a nice and calming game very calm and probably grate for long car rides. It’s just one thing that I might want is probably like new shapes and maybe a new one like triangles as enemies and maybe even some other shapes and maybe there can be a new circle type like a tamer but takes 10 seconds is the cool down and if it strikes and enemy they become your ally

Sociopathic ads

Game is fun but you can’t really do anything unless you watch an ad. Can’t make money, can’t play faster, can’t progress in the game. I’m all for watching ads to get ahead, but when ads become “required” to progress is insane. I timed it. In 30 minutes, if I watch every available ad, I spend 50% of that time watching ads. If I don’t watch any ads, I make maybe 10ish% of the progress in that time. This game is a choice: have no fun and watch no ads, or watch so many ads, you forgot what the fun is supposed to be.

Card

The cards when I bought it then if I got the same exact one still says 0 out of 3

My Review

It’s fun, i play it for a few hours every other day. The developers need to solve an really annoying issue. Often the soldiers will ignore and walk away from what’s attacking them and it’s the worst feeling in the world. I think healers should be able to heal more than just one soldier at a time. It would also be more satisfying if upgrades did more, spend thousands just to 1 extra damage

Less of a Game, More of a Cash Grab.

It’s a great basic premise ruined by the company’s seemingly feral need to make you either watch ads or pay large sums of money for moderate improvements that still don’t make the game playable.

The AI is trained to hunt your soldiers down, commonly getting off multiple attacks before yours return a strike. Why? Because while they are hyper aggressive and organized, you are not allowed to command your own army, leaving you to watch them walk around aimlessly and ignore the actual threats until they are half dead.

Absolutely maddening. The gameplay boils down to “every once and awhile click an upgrade while watching a several minutes long cutscene you have little control over that’s somehow supposed to make you interested in continuing to play.”

No thanks.

Greedy ads, good potential

By the time you spend $10-$30, there is no reason they should still be bending you over for ads that are integral to being able to progress in the game.

More specifically, you have to do these stupid ads that lasts about a minute each every 1.5 minutes.

They have the foundation of a fun game, but they’re greed is getting in the way of authentic gameplay

By

Waste of time

The concept of the game is good, but the only way you are ever gonna progress is if you spend tons of money on the game, or watch tons of ads. You start out with only 1 unit available, and it’s practically impossible to clear the first level with just the 1 unit. To be able to clear it, you are going to need to watch ads, and I suspect that will be the case for every other stage as well. It’s just a massive money grab of a game, do not waste your time.

By

Battles too slow

You could graduate high school, get your master’s, have your firstborn, get a house, and settle down for retirement before a battle in this game is at its halfway point. They do it intentionally just to make you pay money for the battle speed to be increased, which is a truly effective speedrun for making people hate your game. 10/10 game if you wanted to annoy your players devs, otherwise get those lonely and dusty neurons firing and actually make a game that is ENJOYABLE

By

Ruined by adpocalypse

Great concept for a game and could’ve been fun but it’s ruined by numerous ads trying to get you to buy essentially the same game with a different theme. You basically have to watch ads to progress at all.

AI is idiotic and will attack nonthreats while getting killed. It’s obviously intentionally done because enemy ai has no issue.

Do not download. It’s not a game. It’s an ad watching simulator

I like it but a bit quiet

I really like the game it’s simple to the point and will probably keep me busy through school, though I would like some type of music or some sounds because it is a bit quiet but either way it’s a nice game, so good job

By

Needs an update.

I would like to say that I do like the game but I feel like you can’t progress through the game without spending half of your time watching ads. In order to upgrade my stats faster I did spend $10 to double my crowns but I’ve only seen double them twice. I would like a refund if nothing is going to be done about that. There needs to be an update where they fix some issues or improve the game or else it’s going to be come of those games I delete or just dont open TheArmy anymore
