Would be peachy if it would get data from the server

It’s a lovely looking app, but after I added an Audiobookshelf server it just sat, with a spinner going non-stop. It populated the author list but tapping on a name got no information at all.

I can’t see paying for this right now, I’m afraid.

Better than nothing, but needs more usability features

I want to like plappa, as I really wanted a solution to work with my audiobookshelf server.

The apps worked, but was to hard to deal with a large library of audiobooks. What I wanted was to go to an Author and go to the next book in the Series I was listen to. Problems:

1. No series tab
2. If you go to all books you can collapse series, but cannot search by author, series name else
3. If you go to author tab, the series info does not show, ie. Series name , number or order
4. No sort by date, as that would at least show me which book came first
5. No link back to Series
6. No search/ filter screen to help find book

So good start, and if you have a small number of audiobooks you may find this software useful, but for those who have a sizable library you should probably pass for now.

Missing to major features

What’s there is nice. No issue in book form layback. Interface is simple and nice.
But it is missing two major features:

One, I am stunned there is no easy way to see the books you have not played. The Listen Again on the home screen is useless and should be Books Not Played. Or there should at least be a filter or sort for unplayed on the library page.
Two, and related, it does not sync the unplayed/unlistened flags with AudiobookSelf so I have to set the flags in two places.

Beautiful UI, a few missing features

This is THE Audiobookshelf app. It has an absolutely beautiful UI. The official Audiobookshelf mobile app feels cluttered, slow, and old. plappa is great, and it mostly works well! There are a few features that I miss from the Audiobookshelf official app that keep me from using plappa. Primarily, I wish plappa had a slider for fine-tuned control of playback speed instead of a select menu. I like to listen to my audiobooks at occasionally 1.3x or 1.4x speed, but I can not do that with plappa.

Over all, it's amazing, but the most important part of an audiobook app -- the playback -- is lacking features. With that one feature I'd be sold.

Finally a good iOS audiobookshelf client

thank you for making this— it’s perfect

Great client, one request

I absolutely love plappa , works great. The one thing I wish it did was syncing with the stats on audio bookshelf, I’d definitely buy plappa then. Otherwise it’s great!

I have commitment issues, but not to this app

When I installed plappa back in April, it was pretty barebones and a little buggy, but Leo’s continued development efforts are really bringing out the best in his product. It’s stable, it’s quick, and it is easy to use. The Audiobookshelf iOS app will eventually come out, but as of this moment, I don’t see why I would switch to it.

Keep it up, Leo!

Great alternative to main Emby app

I loaded plappa as part of a move off Audible and to self hosted content. plappa has been great and is easily navigated. I stayed with Audible for so long because of its ease of use. This is a great replacement.

Very good already

Had a need for something that uses audiobook shelf and works with CarPlay. This fits the bill perfectly outside of the typical CarPlay audio issues. Since the latest update that syncs progress with server it’s almost perfect as I use audiobook shelf on my computer. Only thing missing is multiple servers, but I see that’s it’s requested on the GitHub roadmap. Overall very worth the price for the future potential.

Fantastic app!!

I run an ABS server and can’t play books on my iphone because there is no native client. This bridges the gap perfectly. Once I test a little more, I’ll gladly pay the five bucks for a lifetime subscription! A++++!

Unbeatable

Throughly impressed with plappa . Only one but for the last 3 weeks and it’s strange how it happened.

In the Podcasts library, it no longer lists all my podcasts. I see “Where you left off” and “Recently added” in the home, but the Podcasts and Playlists tab show up as empty. I also can’t search for the Podcasts by name to find my list. I’ll update once it’s fixed.

Even with the issue, I couldn’t recommend this enough along with Audio bookshelf!

Really great Podcast/Audiobook app for self-hosters

Really impressed with plappa and it’s getting better with every update. Many thanks to the dev for their great work on this.

Very good

Using for audiobookshelf. This has been a perfect experience. I purchased the fill features of this and also purchased self player. This one wins by a long shot. More features, great performance, adorable papa this app.

Couldn’t have designed it better myself

Wonderful. I subscribed to premium within minutes of using plappa .

Exactly what I needed

I have my own audiobook server (audiobookshelf) and I was sorely in need of an iOS app to use with it. plappa has filled that void. It’s intuitive, easy to use and works great.

A great app with a friendly developer.

this app works beautifully with Audiobookshelf and I appreciate the support for older iOS versions so my younger kids can use it on an older (and cheaper) iOS device. I had some questions for the dev and he answered them quickly and in a very friendly manner. Love to see projects like these for those of us who want to host our own solutions for our families. Thank you!

Love the app!!

I just setup audiobookshelf a couple of days ago and found my way to plappa and it’s fantastic! Thank you very much for developing and maintaining it. You are a true gentleman and scholar! 😁

However I do have one suggestion for an improvement. How difficult would it be to add a shortcut to the bookmarks from within the player? Right now, only the chapters can be accessed from the player shortcuts. I constantly make bookmarks as I have been known to accidentally tap the progress bar when picking up my phone and completely lose my place in my book. Currently the only way I know to access my bookmarks is to close the MiniPlayer, go back to the book on the Home Screen and then click over to the bookmarks tab.

Works great!

Does everything one needs to listen to stuff from Audiobookshelf. Love that it syncs with the audiobook place.

Great for books!

This is great for books and podcasts. However, CarPlay mode for podcasts needs a lot of improvements. New episodes are not displayed. You have to start the podcast in the phone and then continue to listen on CarPlay. No way to see new episodes in CarPlay mode. Also I have noticed that podcasts won’t resume automatically if paused by maps or any other apps.

The phone experience is amazing and very polished.

Hands down the best

One of the best audiobook player with Apple car play support. Sleek, easy to use UI with a good UX. I’ll support the dev after my current subscription ends. Check it out and the dev seems to be active in Reddit.

Feels very professional

plappa feels and works as good as something like audible great job there!

I would have liked an option to ignore untrusted certificate warnings on an https connection when setting it up since I use my own internal CA but I just installed the root ca on to the device to bypass that.

Awesome

Bravo developer, this is perfect

Quite Fantasitc

It is fairly early still in plappa’s development, but it’s really great and sure to only get better.

Great for AudioBookShelf

I’ve been using this for a week and it’s been a great experience so far. No complaints.
