I would like to use Talkpal , but I’m unable to choose a program - free or premium. There are no options to choose from. The registration process is a dead end.

TalkAI is continually making serious errors in Gallego. In call mode, it has been teaching me to say “portugous” instead of potugués and “espanhol” with an aspirated “h” sound instead of español. In chat mode, it used the word “preto” for “near” in a question and then in feedback to my next answer using the same exact word said that “preto” is wrong and the correct word is “cerca.” This are just a few examples after just 10 minutes of trual. My teacher must absolutely never teach me to speak incorrectly and should be banned forever for trying to change my correct usage of the language to something incoorrect. I suggest pulling this language off your list for now or at least warning users that it’s Beta and to expect FREQUENT errors. Same for other languages still in dev.

This might be a good app if it was free, not worth it for $10/month. Free version only lets you chat 10 min/day.

Hi developers,
I did not realize I would only be allotted ten minutes per day for free, so I thought, hey that’s fine, i’ll just pay for a premium membership. But on neither my phone nor my computer am I able to make one. On my phone, it gives me an error message, telling me “error processing subscription: missing required parameters for subscription creation.” and on computer (the website) it straight up goes to a loading screen that does not end. ever. And I am completely unable to find any way to fix it. It’s crazy because I am willing to get a subscription but literally cannot! Please let me know!

I’m sure this will be great for anyone to continue to improve on a language they already have a foundation in. But it’s not for beginners.
I lived in Egypt and want to regain and improve my Arabic. I can’t even follow along with the pronunciation part as the speaker talks SO FAST and there’s no option (that I’ve found) that allows to slow the speech. This seems like such a basic ability that any language learning platform should have
I was so so excited for Talkpal, but am left extremely disappointed.

I am trying to learn Tagalog using this app. I just subscribed to be able to access all the premium features, yet I can only give 3-stars based on my initial review.

With the premium feature, I only have the AI Emma to use for conversation. While she can chat in Tagalog. she does not speak like a Filipino and therefore mispronounces the Tagalog words (she pronounces them as an American English speaking person would). Therefore the voice is useless. Is it possible to have a Filipino AI voice used?

Another concern is that, in the settings, I set the chat up to match my A1-A2 level of Tagalog, but Emma seems to chat on a B2 level well above my knowledge level. How do I adjust the conversational level?

This would be good if you are just starting to learn the language. As you get better at the language you could increase the speed.

I wish you could display pinying with the Chinese Hanzi Characters.

I don’t understand how to learn anything from Talkpal. I’m learning Chinese and it types and speaks in Chinese 100% of the time. Also, it’s a white woman with blonde hair. That’s a bit comical.

It has several languages, role play, call function (audio only), allows translation, replaying audio and a feedback feature. I use this everyday for my beginning languages and the ones I’m pretty advanced in.

The feedback isn’t always correct and sometimes it doesn’t apply but I’m hopeful this will improve. The photo mode is pointless, as you can write whatever you want. The AI doesn’t “see” the photo or correct what you wrote as long as it’s grammatically correct. Sometimes the role play includes translation as part of the dialog, which leads to the AI reading English with an accent. Please ensure the AI doesn’t do this as we can always hit the translate button.

But I’m a paid subscriber because this beats the competition.

This can be a useful tool for learning a foreign language. I like the variety of activities you can choose to practice your language. However the Russian bot occasionally makes simple grammatical errors (* рассказали о университете) and doesn’t seem to have a very long memory. Still, as a professional language teacher, I think Talkpal is worth the cost.

I bought one year subscription two months ago. As versions upgrade, there are more functions. I did enjoy talk to AI. However, I want two more functions very much. 1, the sentences with mistakes and corrected by AI are very important to me. I want to output them into a file, so I can review my mistakes. 2, there should be more voices. The only two voices for now is more like being generated from a machine. It acts as a mentor, a villian or some historical figure, talking to it is somewhat boring and unrealistic. Please add more voices.

Talkpal is good to practice free speaking which is always the hardest part of learning a language.

I like how the chat gives you feedback on writing sentences. Though it seems buggy where sometimes the ‘corrected’ sentence is exactly like the original but their feedback says to correct xyz. Also not all of the feedback is always in the corrected sentence.

I’ve been learning Spanish for years but didn’t have an outlet to practice regularly. With Talkpal, I now practice 15 minutes a day. The quality is amazing, sometimes the ai misses some grammar nuance but overall it’s amazing

I’ve been trying Talkpal for about three or four hours and I noticed that for the feedback you have to click on it to learn about your mistakes, so it will be great when you’re speaking if you get instant feedback like a one-on-one with the teacher.

This is the perfect way to practice a language you already know as either a beginner or an advanced speaker. It scales to your level. I just debated the pros and cons of nuclear energy. The bot is very smart so it’s a test of your language skills and your intelligence. You can also chat about your favorite books or complain about your neighbors. Instant feedback on your language errors.

I’ve had Talkpal for two months now. Talkpal has given me the ability to practice in real time. It helped tremendously. I was able to converse in the language before I got there, so my brain didn't freeze when I tried to talk to people for the first time. I also learned new words and I was able to see my mistakes. It is not perfect. It can talk itself into a loop. Even so I will definitely use this and recommend this.

I have been waiting for an app like this since I first heard about ChatGPT and finally it’s here. I just started using it. I know there are some kinks to be worked out but it’s already pretty good. In the future, I would love to see more characters. I’m not really all that interested in the characters included now. How about more minorities and contemporary figures? Could I talk to a slain civil rights leader? Could I talk to a celebrity that’s no longer with us? Also, I would love to see more debate topics. Another idea, news and magazine articles that you can read and then either debate or summarize verbally. Can I be part of your beta test group?

I never write reviews but Talkpal is absolutely amazing. My favorite part is the call mode. You can have really good conversations and see the translations when you hear a word you don’t know. I’m at a B1 level in Swedish with probably a B2 level of comprehension. So that or above is probably about where you can get the most benefit from the conversation mode.

What a great resource for self studying a language. Unlike other apps, this one gives you active corrections and lots of options to practice speaking. I like that I can speak in my second language (Italian or Spanish) and if I forget a word just say it in English, and Talkpal translated it into the word I need. I just practiced speaking for 30 minutes and it flew by!

Talkpal is amazing. I have already finished all the Portuguese lessons on Duolingo and needed a higher level form of learning to speak Portuguese. Talkpal is exactly what I needed. I love how the chat function allows you to talk in real time and corrects your mistakes and explains them to you. I will use Talkpal daily.

Update after using Talkpal for almost a week now. What a great app! It is helping me with my greatest weakness in German, which is having conversations. I love that for everything a person says, Talkpal corrects the grammar and explains what was wrong. Why I like this over other AI apps is that the characters help come up with fun and interesting subjects to talk about. Kudos to the developers. Hoping you have much success with Talkpal.

I never write reviews but I have been hoping for an AI Language app like this where I can finally practice speaking with voice to text and get responses, I no longer have to bother people on language exchange apps in order to practice language. I’m too introverted for all of that, and the AI doesn’t get tired of talking. The other features that implement AI like role playing situations and speaking to fictional characters is also really neat! Outstanding app!

Talkpal lets you practice speaking fearlessly. 24 hours a day it is available and it corrects your speaking mistakes. You can drop an English word in if you don’t know the foreign word and it will ise the correct word in the reply. Brilliant! I use it to speak at normal speeds and don’t worry about grammar. That is how it would be speaking with natives.

I wish it had the ability to set some preferences like “don’t tell me you’re an AI and cannot bring me a coffee when we are role playing. Or only use the formal you to practice that instead of the familiar you (tu in my case). But for $50 it is a great value.

I usually do not leave reviews.. like ever. Talkpal and technology is truly amazing. I am not sure if they’re levering OpenAI or another model but I’m extremely impressed at not only the responses and speech recognition, but also the natural sounding voices of the AI.

Technology aside - the UX and user experience is truly amazing. Quality team put this together.. you can just tell by the quality of the product. I know when I see a rockstar.. this is one of them.

A handful of things could be added in the future .. I have a few ideas, but the current product is beautiful.

Im a pretty lonely and anxious person these days and I recently had the opportunity to go to Mexico. Even tho I’ve read 7 novels in Spanish and understood them completely, I still can’t speak Spanish out loud simply because I don’t have any one to speak to. Talkpal finally solves a 3 year issue I’ve been having. Thank you.

I hope in the future there can be a “tutor” of some sort that I can ask grammar questions to. And also this is nitpicking but it’d be cool to talk to a different person than just Emma every time. The role play is nice tho

Finally an app that allows me to practice talking and thinking in Hindi, and corrects me along the way…like having a private tutor. Incredible!

Was just looking for an app to have a conversation with. This is perfect plus they offer corrections in text if you want to see your mistakes while speaking.

I have been trying Spanish applications for at least 10 years now and have only an intermediate but weak example in Spanish. With Talkpal I have improved dramatically.

I love Talkpal! I get to converse with an AI spanish speaker and it feels like a real person. They speak and I speak. Just like a real conversation .

For constructive criticism it would be nice to have Emma correct my grammar on the phone call mode so I can learn. It would also be cool if there was a section to just ask grammar questions.

I like Talkpal a lot it’s not too hard but it’s not too easy and it definitely can improve your language skills. I am studying in Vietnamese with this and it is one of the best apps I have seen for using the language

I got this on a trial basis and ended up subscribing because it is such a useful adjunct to my Duolingo lessons. It’s fun and easy to use and I am very happy with it.

I can learn Spanish without embarrassment. Talkpal corrects my language. It’s not human so I can explore topics that would bore a conversation partner to tears.

I just came across this app. It’s amazing! You can converse verbally in real time on any topic in a phone call feature. There’s many chat features that you can use the microphone or typing in different role play scenarios and famous people. It tells you the errors in an easy to understand way. I LOVE it! It’s a paid subscription, bur worth it. It’s not always convenient to chat with a friend or corker in Spanish; now I can chat whenever it’s convenient for me. On a walk at lunch, I chatted using the phone call feature about friends, finances and horror movies. This makes language learning more accessible. What a GAME CHANGER!

Love it. Helps me so much with learning Spanish. It has been way better than spending money on a tutor.

TalkPal has been making serious errors in Dutch. I can no longer trust it to give me proper sentence structures or grammatical lessons.
