Speaking Practice Reviews

I’m an English speaker trying to learn French and my phone language is set to French. For unknown reasons, the Kippy app walked me through the configuration in SPANISH (which I know well enough to follow) even though I said my native language is English and I want to learn French, sometimes prompting me to speak French in Spanish with an unintelligible English accent .

It was just a total fail.

No way to increase text speed in the tutorial

Anyone who keeps interrupting me to write a review gets a one star. And it interrupts me again, so I guess I add to my existing glowing negative review. Let’s see if it does it again.

SpeakingPractice advertised $6.67 per month. Turns out they bill you $79.99 right away, no trial period. I canceled within minutes and got no money back. I just have access for the next year. TOTAL BAIT AND SWITCH. And SpeakingPractice isn’t much. It just asks questions. Isn’t at all like a human conversation. DO NOT RECOMMEND !

Let me first state the positives:

1. Prompts and conversation feel natural

2. Responses are very specific and quite impressive

3. Lots of categories for a variety of situations

Here’s the problem:

The voice recognition software is pretty terrible if you’re not a native speaker. I’m an intermediate Brazilian Portuguese speaker, and when I speak to others, I’m relatively understandable. Unfortunately, the voice recognition software gets what I said wrong almost 80% of the time, and it’s guesses as to what I said make very little sense.

Before one of the developers can ask, yes, I do know how to delete a response and re-record it. After trying 3-5 times, and then each time it gets it progressively more incorrect, I can safety say that doesn’t fix the issue.

Not sure how difficult it is to get the software to better understand non-native level pronunciation better, but that’s what it would take for me to come back and use it. I might just consider trying to find a person to practice with instead.

So far it’s a conversation based app where a fella speaks and you are given possible replies. I’m sure that there is probably more to it, but I’ve been using less than 10 minutes and asked to review, so here it is. Hope you guys add some one time payment options.

I love the conversational style, but your response will be perceived as different if you do not pronounce everything perfectly. That’s a little frustrating and you can’t go back to re-pronounce it so the conversation close correctly.

Great at helping me with speech but it does not start with the basics.

Been using Duolingo for multiple years and nothing had as much practical use cases as Kippy

Between listening to podcasts and watching TV with subtitles, I find Kippy seems the most effective to help me learn how to say colloquially, any thought I have in my head, and then be able to practice it out loud with word-by-word rating system.. really helpful, especially to hone in on the harder sounds. The conversations with the AI are almost starting to get me to flow.. the words are coming faster and faster, and it has been relatively little time since I first got SpeakingPractice . Awesome design!

Please stop asking for reviews in my lesson

Glad I downloaded. Great way to learn new phrases. They’ve got a cool conversation practice feature and I love that they’ll tell you how your pronunciation is.

It’s awesome

The is so much better than Duolingo. SpeakingPractice took me straight to speaking a new language without ever have spoken a single word of it before. Love it!!!

Nice app but what is with the bossy birds

This is the best app for conversations. You can either speak in your native language with the AI or try your desired language. It also saves words used in the convo to review later. It’s like learning without realizing you’re learning. Absolute hidden gem!!

This is SpeakingPractice that expedites the process of learning to another level, its touches on what’s missing in all language apps & within 2 weeks I am beginning to have basic Spanish conversations. The features are so simple & well-thought of. Never spoke or imagined I’d learn so fast. It will score your pronunciation, while teaching to have conversations. Highly recommended.

I signed up for a month. I figured I need at least a month to really know if I like it and if it works. I’ve done it for about 30 minutes now. It really jumps right into it. No idea what it’s saying. But I put translation on so, I’m starting to get the hang of it. And it gives you ideas of what to answer back which I like. Again, the verbiage is still pretty advanced for me, but in real life, I feel like this is how people would talk. They would just start talking so it’s better mess up here than in real life.

SpeakingPractice is so simple yet perfect! At last, I have someone to talk to and practice my Spanish! I have a packed schedule and it’s hard to find tutors who are available late in the evening to speak with me. Love it!
