The Internet Archive

The Internet Archive is the type of application most people would love to have as a mobile companion where you can listen to or read from many different types of content from the archives whether it be broadcasts, films, magazines, images and more. In terms of design TheInternetArchiveCompanion does a great job with the ability to navigate to content whether by category from the side menu or by type of content from the top menu. Comprehensive applications can be hard to create a UI for where the interface isn’t cluttered and the user isn’t bombarded with information. I think The Internet Archive does a good job here. I haven’t played back content yet but for everything else TheInternetArchiveCompanion presents I think The Internet Archive is well worth a download.

Love the site, hate the app

I really enjoy using this site to access books on my computer. The site itself is very useful and I appreciate the people who work hard to keep it running. However, this mobile app is just completely unusable on my device. I try opening a book, and without fail, it will never display a single image or text—just a blank white space saying [---RAN OUT OF FILE---]. I feel bad giving it a one-star rating, but what else am I supposed to do when an app completely fails to function after months of me attempting to use it?

Love the app overall

TheInternetArchiveCompanion has amazing amount of data (specifically a great record of an old radio show no longer available anywhere else). However TheInternetArchiveCompanion crashes on occasion and recently stopped working for me. The browser version still works but an app update would be great at some point. Thanks!

Update

I’m hoping to have a way to download movies offline to watch on TheInternetArchiveCompanion offline then from TheInternetArchiveCompanion so then it gives me what I want offline everything on app that’s why the 4 stars not five I would give five if there was a way to listen offline or whatever you choose watch etc

An embarrassment

The pleasure/utility I associate with, and derive from, Internet Archive is turned on its head with this sad excuse for an app. Just one example from _many_: Did a musical artist name search just now on TheInternetArchiveCompanion . No matter how I try it, TheInternetArchiveCompanion returns the message “Download failed. Is your internet connection working?” A) Yes, it is, and b) I wasn’t downloading anything; simply attempting to perform a search.

Avoid this at all costs. Use Internet Archive vía your browser. This is a hot mess.

Almost Great

This would be a fantastic app if it were more compatible with iOS. Sadly it only worked when i first downloaded it and now, after restarts and deleting/redownloading, it has crashed and is rendered completely useless. Can only assume it hasnt been updated for iOS in awhile...

Awful interface, buggy as all hell

Crashes at a moments notice. I have no doubt this is one of the worst apps in the store. Wouldn’t use it if not for the hard to find files. The player is near useless as if you swipe it down it’s impossible to bring it back up without starting a new file.

Happy to have this

Glad TheInternetArchiveCompanion exists. It allows me to read lots of old books!!!

I want to love this

Unfortunately, I don’t love this. It rarely works. It tells me odd things like I’m not connected to the internet—I am connected. It will play the same thing over and over while it is no longer in the queue, but it won’t play anything else.

This app doesn’t play the next track?

Why on earth would you develop an app like this and not include the ability to automatically play the next track? This is crazy to me and am deleting TheInternetArchiveCompanion because of it. It never appears to get updates either which is not ideal.

Play entire set

I’m unable to play entire set list with one click I have to hit play each time one song is finished playing to play the next

Good but

Lately I haven't been able to get into TheInternetArchiveCompanion usually because it logs me out right away.. that a bug or should I. Re-download it

It's great app

Just wish it would automatically go to the next track for audio

In need of an update

I used to use TheInternetArchiveCompanion daily but after getting the iPhone X TheInternetArchiveCompanion is unusable. Cannot access my player, it only half appears at the bottom of the screen.

Great app, but...

Love TheInternetArchiveCompanion , I can finally listen to all my OTR shows! ...but I've had problems with it crashing. Often happens when I edit the player. Fix that and I'll be one happy fellow.
