UPDATE - Works with Xebex firmware update. Does not work with Xebex rower and iPhone

With Xebex rower and IPhone XS, it connects Bluetooth to this app app, but then hangs on “Please wait while fetching additional data about the selected equipment.” I have an open ticket with this app support for three weeks and they say they have been aware of issue, but still not resolved. I verified Xebex rower can connect and send data to other apps via Bluetooth. Will update rating when they fix it....if they ever do.

UPDATE -This was the fault of Xebex and not this app. I had to update the firmware on the XeBex console. Now it works great! Thank you for your help this app.

Almost there

I was at the end of my trial run via my new KICKR Bike and in love with Kinomap but then out of the blue, the most recent app update removed any ability to compare my performances on a given course. My workouts need to be comped on my personal best not only against others. Very disappointed. I would otherwise be lifelong. Will try one of the other apps.

Want to like it.

There is a lot of competition in this space. Rouvy and FulGaz offer a better experience with videos. Maybe with better curated content and UI improvements this would be better.

Cons:
- Videos are so-so compared to others
- won’t connect to wahoo tickr
- Videos are wobbly and choppy (depending on speed)
- UI to connect to devices confusing. Other apps much easier and it works
- Need to use a computer or browser to sign up. Can’t sign up in App

Pros:
- content. Although sifting through bad content is a challenge
- better search feature than others
- Map feature against google maps a nice feature.
- nice to compare against other riders who road the route. A virtual icon appears on the map which lets you see where the riders were(are). This isn’t interactive like Zwift, but was a feature I liked.

It’s OK

Only use with KayakPro ergometer. Don’t use video workouts because quite frankly - paddling videos are pretty slow and boring. The structured workouts are extremely limited and weak compared to more robust programs like TrainerRoad, Sufferfest and Zwift. If I could use one of those apps with my kayak erg I would drop Kinomap in immediately but guess I’m stuck with it or the much more limited GymTrakr. The only thing I use this for is FreeRide mode to track power and HR while I do real workouts adapted from TrainerRoad.

Great fun!

Kinomap works as advertised. I’m learning all the options and don’t mind poking around to figure it out. I find it highly motivating to row with others while I’m in the comfort & safety of my own basement. I find I’m rowing faster than before using Kinomap . My endurance isn’t built up yet but I know I’m getting a quality workout.

Fun app...amazing videos

I use this app together with my WaterRower. Prior to this app rowing work out were visually boring. this app has changed that. Additionally, their customer support is very responsive. Good job.

Now I am using Kinomap , after watching the GCN video, for my bike rides. This and ZWIFT is making winter more tolerable. Who am I kidding, I live in So. Cal., we have no winters here. LOL. Stiil, Kinomap is DA Bomb. Thanks.

Yet another terrible rowing app

Doesn’t actually write kcals to Apple Health, but it doesn’t matter because it’s calorie estimate was significantly lower than the range it should been. Didn’t write the full 30 minutes to Health. Thinks I weigh 701 lbs. I need to lose weight, sure, but that’s over 2.5 times the weight currently recorded in Apple Health. On the positive side it did connect with my C2 PM5 without issue. However, it didn’t seem to care about the heart rate sensor connected to the PM5. Also, there is no integration with the C2 logbook.

Indoor training on Kinomap

I like the POV video for training over the more game like video of other applications. I find it fun and engaging to explore areas I may never get to ride. Paris Roubaix, famous climbs, Northern California. All are great rides so far.

Want to like

I’ve uploaded 22 videos to this app. I would love to ride them. I’ve also been a paid subscriber for a few months but can’t figure out how to pair my own equipment besides my Wahoo kicker with this app. I would like to use my own Garman power meter and my own Garmin heart rate monitor. And if I can’t figure out how to do that I have to delete Kinomap . Zwift and Rouvy make it very easy to pair things.

Awesome app

I workout often so therefore I need some diversity in workouts. Kinomap provides that ! Would definitely recommend it.

Great Pandemic Relief

Kinomap lets me run in so many unique global regions. It takes some the sting of stay home. Lot more bang for the buck than last fitness app I had. Enjoying it!

By

Excellent

Thousands of well filmed rides at all levels of activity.
Lots of live info as you are riding.
Highly recommend!

The app works for me

I had no issues setting it up or using Kinomap on windows 10. Everyone of these training apps has its quirks. I use tacx, rovey and rg. I have a free membership to zwift but haven’t used it yet. Equipment is a tacx neo2.

The best!

I just smashed a 2K race end it felt so good! I was racing against people around the world and I came in fifth. Not bad for 6’2” 264 pound person that just started rowing. I love Kinomap so much

The races really motivate

Just when you think there’s no more fuel in the tank, you’re popping wheelies

Stellar. Incredible.

Working out can be so boring. this app takes me new places and the time flies by.

By

New to this app

So far, I love Kinomap. It made passing the time on a longer ride very easy.

By

Life changing

If you rode a bike as a child, you can do this. Very motivating and fun.

New version of app

Search function doesn’t work. Hit “more” and it doesn’t work
Old app worked, the new app is a poor substitute with no chance to go back to the better app
Disappointed and frustrated

Locked out.

The latest update logs you out and won’t let you back in. I even changed the password to make sure it wasn’t something I was doing wrong. I can’t use it on any of my devices.

Crashing. Can’t use

Crashing. Demo worked great.
...update post developers comments. I did have multiple email exchanges. Tried multiple (4) rides. Each except demo crashed. Not sure if demo is rigged or it's a problem with Kinomap . Fullgaz allows to demo for 2 weeks any rides. Rouvy never crashed.

By

Simply does not work

App freezes as soon as I try to choose my exercise equipment.

As an engineer, I’m sickened that software like this continues to be produced by lazy developers that don’t test their work product.

By

Interesting idea but no horizontal mode

I tried for rowing but my cradle only holds phone horizontally and Kinomap only displays portrait

Feel so real

Awesome apps!

Constant crashes

Start a video and immediately crashes for iPhone XS

Great

Fun chasing circles on map, nice video

Good execution with Wahoo Cycling Trainer

The core goal of Kinomap is good - I can ride virtual video rides that look great. Kinomap allows me to ride at the original pace or my own pace, faster or slower. It integrates with the KICKR Climb too.

The physics under the surface seem to embrace the correct goals. Other virtual apps sometimes feel like I’m stuck in the mud because they are measuring power only and not including wheel speed, regardless of power output. This leaves me feeling disconnected and less responsive. this app seems better than the apps I’ve ridden. I feel more connected to the visuals.

KICKR Climb works, but it doesn’t seem to have any specific coding in Kinomap to smooth it out. I’d like to see separate calls to the Climb a second or two in advance of elevation changes affecting the trainer resistance like they do in Kinomap whose name starts with an F. That little bit of attention would make Climb integration excellent. There’s a setting to adjust the amount of time it takes for the trainer to adjust to new incline settings. I need to play with it a bit to see if this helps.

Video quality overall is decent, but there is a wide disparity between good and bad. Unlike Kinomap that starts with F, this app supports a broader collection of video capture devices, and it appears as though there is no post processing to stabilize the image. Some videos have large “rests”, others seem out of sync between the visuals and the resistance. But many are spit on, high quality. And the filters on the search are very flexible. This helps to make a very large library of multi-discipline videos more manageable. You can even click on a map of the globe and identify any courses near your pin drop.

The dual screen feature is a great idea. I like the color gradients on the elevations, the overhead map view, and the options for what is displayed on the second monitor. It’s responsive and looks good on my iPhone 6s. I also can stream Pandora on my phone to my AppleTV that I screen share with while riding and streaming the this app video and using the second screen. Thumbs up!!!

While the website allows you to save video rides to personal playlists, Kinomap has no such feature. This is a drawback, and I took one star for this. I want to be able to browse and save rides in my downtime so I’m not searching when I want to be riding. This would be a great feature add for Kinomap .

Another website option I’d like to see on the mobile app is the ability to preview a video without riding it. It would be great to be able to visually zip through a ride to evaluate the visuals without committing to riding it. Sometimes my motivation to get on the trainer is to view beautiful landscape as I pace. I’m not a super fast rider, and I don’t always want to push myself to the edge. I’d love to choose a handful of beautiful, flat-ish rides for days that I just want to hit a target heart rate for 30-45 mins. This would be an easy and unique feature to add.

I LOVE Challenge mode, so I can chase other virtual riders who have ridden a course previously. They show on both screens... on the small screen you can see everyone on the map, on the big screen you can see their avatar grow in front of you as you catch up and pass them (hopefully!!), their avatar disappears as you pass. This is a great motivator!!

In challenge mode the video also runs at the pace you are peddling, faster or slower than recorded. I prefer this to the alternative where you visually ride at the same pace as the original rider, regardless of effort. Inclines was still add or remove resistance, as appropriate. But your speed matches that of the original rider.

The physics on this one feel good. In challenge mode my mind is able to match my effort to the visuals on a speed incline basis. And my numbers match up pretty closely to similar efforts off of the trainer, though I always find my power curve a bit flat on a trainer no matter what I’m riding with. Height, weight, bicycle type and posture, and aerodynamic resistance (a bit more for we larger folk) all help to dial things in.

All in, I’m starting to think this will be my only indoor cycling app. It’s very good, and they continue to improve on a pretty regular cadence. The free rides are not very good, but if you’re willing to risk $10 for a month to try it, you might wind up happy, like I did.

Enjoy!

Sporadic on iPad

On off on off. Weird!

Seems like a great idea but...

I'll have to wait until I upgrade my rower to the very latest model before I can even see if this works. It won't even just play the demo videos without some connection to the rower and those seem to be unavailable for purchase. (The only one I can find is out of stock and has a 30 pin connector, are you kidding!)

Pricey subscription required. Those always worry me because the prices always seem to go up even higher as soon as you really start liking something.

Also it is not clear which apps are which. The company has way too many apps and it is not clear which ones are the current apps.

Disappointing

Had a difficult time getting app to pair with my concept2 pm5 Rower. Finally got it and mirrored to Apple TV. Video did not relate to my speed on the Rower. Could not get the image into landscape mode. When the video finished, the only option was “quit”.
What’s needed is something much more like Zwift or FulGaz.
Might as well just play a YouTube rowing video and use concept2’s app to record the workout.
On a positive note, the data uploaded to Strava without s hitch.
