Good mag but awful app.

2024-12-18

Tried to use this in landscape mode and pages were flying all over the place, completely unreadable.
Switched to portrait and some pages were full screen whilst others weren’t.
This is the 21st century. Getting this right isn’t rocket science.

Was fine, now crashes everytime it opens...

2024-12-18

Crashes again and again. Don't subscribe!!!
Worse app ever. Canceling my subscription.

Terrible app, worse support

2024-12-18

Not sure how an app developer ignores this many negative comments, both here and elsewhere, but these guys seem intent on delivering the worst customer support possible.

Terrible

2024-12-18

Unable to purchase, download and/or view any magazines.

Totally broke down and unusable.

Title says it all

Well, it's technically "digital," I guess...

2024-12-18

But this e-version of Downbeat is something a 12-year old might develop, basically a straight PDF of the print edition. However, it's not even as functional as most PDF files. For example, you cannot:
1) jump to an article from the contents page
2) click on web links in the text and open them in a browser
3) annotate, highlight, copy, share, or basically do anything with the text other than stare at it
4) search the text

If you want to see a good digital edition of an originally print magazine, check out Wired. Too bad we can't get Downbeat's content in something like that. Very shoddy implementation.

Updated and lost issues

2024-12-18

Earlier in 2014 my paid subscription was lost (reimbursed by iTunes Store eventually). Updated app automatically and now I can't access my previously purchased issues. This is why I now stay away from any magazine from pixelmags. They really need to get their act together.

Terrible now

2024-12-18

Something has happened to DownBeatMagazine. It used to work fine and now it's essentially useless. I just downloaded the December issue and it's already frozen me out and deleted the purchase. Come on guys, get it together. Look to your major competitor to see how this is supposed to work.

Me Too!

2024-12-18

The last issue I was able to view was July 2014. There are two issues since then that I have not been able to download.

Not only have they raised the price per issue, which really isn't a big deal but, my previous subscription no longer exists!

Crashing

2024-12-18

Terrible update, I cannot even finish the new issue without a crash! I removed and re added. Still the same issue!

I just received the new release, same issue. I cannot finish the December issue without it freezing and now cannot even restart DownBeatMagazine !

Don't bother

2024-12-18

Like everyone else, lost 10 paid issues I had before the new update . They told me to create an account with them and all my issues would be renewed . Yea right ,NO . Hope they get it together because I really like the magazines .

Bug fixes needed

2024-12-18

I sure wish I would've read the reviews before I paid money for this. It's a great magazine and an important magazine. But DownBeatMagazine is absolutely useless and I can't even access what I paid for.

...but I already have a subscription... ?

2024-12-18

I saw the full page add in the print Downbeat magazine and thought "Great! I can augment it with the iPad version." But no, seems I have to subscribe separately to the iPad version from the print version.

Bummer. I will not subscribe _twice_ for the same content.

(I'm hoping I just missed something?)

A missed opportunity

2024-12-18

How can the most renowned jazz magazine in the world create an iPad app and not include any multimedia? No music, no videos, no links. A terrific magazine -- still. But when I'm reading a CD review or a profile on the Web or on an iPad app, I want to hear samples. This is simply a PDF of the print magazine. A good read, but it could be so much more.

Fantastic!

2024-12-18

Great content every month and the problems with the lost issues are no longer a concern I noticed they uploaded from the previous years too. The Bible of Jazz!
