Author unresponsive

Having problems downloading on two different devices, I’ve emailed the author twice, no response from them and can’t even get a logon to the website.

Don’t recommend

Extraordinary!

This is my first review in more than two years of possessing i-products, and I felt compelled to write one. I stumbled upon this magazine by accident. I didn't think it looked like much when I first downloaded it, but lo and behold - I was surprised. Charl is an amazing teacher. His drone-like voice and charismatic videos make you feel as if you're experiencing a personal lesson, where Charl preemptively answers questions for you. Furthermore, The videos are brimming with information and quite propitious. I look forward to subsequent editions and will be subscribing. It's really quite surprising how inexpensive these guitar skills are being sold for.

Content Good, App Wanting

The content in Guitar Skills are great supplementary lessons, this coming from player returning after 20 years rebuilding many skills from ground 0, and a good knowledge of what I didn't do right last time. The video content is great, but video is not enough and there is too much dependency on it without real work put into WORDS, so you can easily refer back to things. So I will leave that at "supplementary".

AAGuitarSkillsMagazine itself is reusing a underlying app I've seen in other publications, and it is one of the worst magazine (or text book) implementations I've used, and I do a LOT of reading, for work, personal and guitar. Navigation is pitiful, and this is critical for learning delivery. Worse, AAGuitarSkillsMagazine seems to be built into each issue, instead of the content being independent -- meaning if AAGuitarSkillsMagazine has to be updated, every issue has to be individually updated --RE-DOWNLOADED. Then, AAGuitarSkillsMagazine is frequently unresponsive, so coupled with the navigation and always strapped for time, I throw my arms up in surrender. So, unless this improves, I will not renew. Sad, because I like the content when I can find it.

One last nit pick ... seems like some content disappeared in an update without explanation -- specifically some song lessons which is obvious what happened. That is kind of unforgivable.

Brilliant Job!!

I absolutely dig this magazine and the concept. Charl is a talented and engaged instructor with some real guitar chops, and he's put together a truly excellent instructional guide. Been playing on-and-off for quite some time, but never got around to learning guitar in an organized and methodical way. This presentation is perfect for me, and it's done very well. Excellent layout and design, and very helpful, bite-sized lessons throughout. At a buck-99 an issue, you simply cannot go wrong with this thing. Serious kudos to Charl and his little company for putting out a first-rate product for the iPad.

Good Value

At the price of $1.99 an issue, this is really a no lose proposition. Even if you pick up just one good piece of guitar knowledge, it's basically paid for itself. Conversely it is usually packed with so much stuff, it's difficult to assimilate it all. The only issue I find irritating is (at least on my iPad 3), there is no table of contents function to tap on while you are in the magazine--which then necessitates having to manually page through to where you want to be. But overall, you get a lot of stuff for two bucks.

Best Mag Around

I've used so many books, lessons, songster, you name it. A lot have helped me develop my playing skills, but if you want to learn guitar and want to skip over a lot of the BS, then please subscribe to this.
The easiest way to learn is to watch someone, which is why guitar teachers are the best way, but you can watch these videos, and take your time and pretty soon you'll be on your way.
It costs very little to try an issue, so if you don't like it nothing ventured nothing gained.

Fantastic magazine

This is what the iPad newsstand was meant for.

Each issue is packed with content that combines text and embedded videos to complement the text. In terms of the content, exceptional value for the price of each issue. Tons of content that is laid out very well and presented clearly. Combine that with excellent embedded videos that reinforce the content and you've got a fantastic magazine whose value can't be beat.

I'm just learning to play guitar, and am quickly find this magazine a valuable resource in my journey. Great job!

Great product, great information

This magazine is very well put together for the price. Great information, and very professional production value with very few typos or other errors. The only improvement I would like to see that comes to mind immediately is the ability for the mag to rotate into landscape mode. Unless I'm missing something, it stays locked in portrait full time.

Quite nice actually.

As a returning player I hoped this would be great refresher course. It is. Starts off basic and then adds technique to keep ideas fresh. I am definitely digging it thus far. I'm hopeful that down the line the styles start to branch out into non rock forms such as sambas, African rhythms, jazz, pedal steel and chicken pickin', gypsy swing, etc. Also, I'd like to see some ideas on how phrase like a non guitarist; saxophonist, pianist, harpist, etc. Players like Robin Ford, Jimmy Herring, Bob Weir, and Larry Lalonde can really take a melody and turn it out.
Keep up the good work.

Best value for guitar-learning money

I've bought every issue and always find something useful, and often go back and find something I did not catch the first two or three times around.

Very high quality and clear examples, the sort of content needed to help you get to the next level, and a wide range of material for anyone from beginner to intermediate.

What a great concept for a guitar magazine!!

Imbedding videos within the lessons is a superb idea. Now, not only can you read the articles to learn a new technique but you can see and hear how it should be performed. A lot of thought and preparation have gone into each section and it shows! Excellent articles and plenty of variety. Great mag layout and graphics. Keep them coming!

Awesome magazine

This magazine is absolutely the best guitar skills e-mag out there. It is well suited for any guitarist whether a beginner or advance player. The layout using notes, tab and video fit anybody's learning style. Videos are always great because a video will patiently repeat itself over and over. I happen to enjoy music theory so that section is great too. Keep up the good work.

Perfect learning tool

I reviewed the sample issue and was impressed. I had some problems viewing the issues until I cleared out a ton of apps hogging all my iPad ver1 system's memory. Now the issues work great. Each issue has Clear easy to follow instructions. Bring them coming.
Signed: Not Disappointed!!

Perfect

I have used every other teaching tool out there, this is the best yet! It teaches you the basics and includes quality videos. I have been struggling for 2 years with playing guitar and just after the tips and tricks of the first months issue I have noticed I am playing with more consistency and rhythm.

Decent video-based guitar lessons magazine

This is a decent video-based magazine that is good for beginner and intermediate players.

Overall videos are very good. However, I would like to see a bit more content. Some of the content has been irrelevant for me, but that doesn't necessarily speak poorly of the magazine.

I would suggest you take a look and buy it if you like it.

Two Birds One Stone

I have only had AAGuitarSkillsMagazine shortly but have spent the most part of my free time on it reading what's going on with guitars and music and getting some really great lessons at the same time. I would definitely suggest getting this one if you have a love and desire to play guitar. Please keep the acoustic lessons up as well.
