USA Hockey Mobile Coach Reviews

Ive played hockey and now I’m pursuing coaching our local team, and we’ve had a very mild variety of drills in our arsenal, USAHockey allows me and my team of coaches to not only utilize our ice better but opens doors to new drills and videos that have helped our team out tremendously

Very useful, and much easier to use than when it first came out. The stat tracking is great to have and fairly simple. It isn’t all that easy to track multiple players at once, or for instance do whole line stats at the same time. I like that they let you track shot areas in addition to traffic/no traffic- I haven’t noticed if it does that offensively as well but I don’t think so. Having separate tracking for practices and games is great as well.

The main thing I’ve found that could use an update is when you “add to favorites”- it would be useful if it allowed you to create folders that you could save to. That way when you want specific things, they are easier to find. We are running a stick handling/shooting clinic separate from our team practice early in the year, so being able to add them to multiple folders would be useful. I know you can add them to practice plan already, but there are some things I only want to attach as reminders to myself.

Nice new feature that you can use for tracking. It’s a promising start that has the opportunity to add value for providing direct feedback to goalies and players.

Good app. Whiteboard Controls need some help.

Just downloaded, registered, and installed USAHockey --no problems whatsoever. I can't wait to use it at the rink. What a great resource! I really like the desktop site that links with USAHockey and lets you sit down and plan your practices so that you don't have to do all of that on the small screen (but I do hope there's an iPad version on the way also). Best of all, its free to USA Hockey members. Thanks, USA Hockey!

Update: Still loving USAHockey, and it looks like they're already making updates. I'm sorry for those of you who can't operate a phone, but slamming USAHockey isn't very helpful. I hope you don't have this much trouble tying your skates.

USAHockey is PHENOMENAL! Resources are all from world leading experts - not just people trying to make a buck.
The age specific practice plans are unreal...on-ice skills videos are best assortment of individual skills, including goaltending, ever (w Doc Emerick's voice over)...and the the off-ice training videos are phenomenal! And these can all be emailed to individual players, your team or other coaches.
Includes tons of other resources such as body checking materials, white board, etc that are great, too!

It's a good app, however half of the things you would want to learn to do, you need to pay for. Like I play as goalie when I play hockey with my friends and I have been struggling so I wanted to see if USAHockey could show me something's I could do in order to be better. However all it showed were hockey goalies doing drills. I want it to tell you what to do like show you skills like how they did it for the offensive players . And for the offensive players u need to pay to see most of the videos, my suggestion don't make us pay. Make us pay for the dry land ones but don't make us pay for the ice ones because you are then basically not doing what you want your app to do. We need to learn skills let us see the videos.

Love the concept of USAHockey, and have been using it since last season. However, there is a big glitch in the stat tracking that is driving me bonkers. I have two goalies on my team, and track each games save stats. Only about 1 in 3 games will track records on a new record for that days player. The other two thirds look like they will track fine until you enter data, but nothing increases. The data is instead aggravating on another entry.

I love the coaching tools, practice plans, and quick access to drill videos, but I would really love USAHockey if the stats tracking issue could be resolved.

All you people rating one star, did you fail to notice the huge red button on the start up page? You have to be a U.S.A. Hockey member to access USAHockey. USAHockey works fine, and there is a lot of useful information, tips, and instructional videos in it. If you are a member, I would recommend USAHockey. Everything is well organized and looks and runs great IF you follow the instructions at start up page.

I love USAHockey because I play hockey and I want to learn more about how I can do better in games. Every time I’m going to practice or game I whip out my phone and watch some skating and shooting videos. It really helps me visualize what I’m going to do while I’m practicing. I really recommend USAHockey for beginners or people who want to get better at hockey, it’s a great online coach and it helps a lot!!!!

There are some great drills and ideas with USAHockey. Honestly, I don’t even think it is missing anything once it works how it looks like it should. Unfortunately, it does not work as it should. I have saved about seven drills from my white board, but none of it works in the plan builder. Multiple crashes when trying to put together the practice plan.

Oddly enough, I don’t think there has been an update to USAHockey for a bit, yet options that worked a month ago, don’t work now. It’s frustrating to put so much time into building plans and creating drills to have USAHockey crash and not save the work.

Thank you USA Hockey for creating the Mobile Coaching App. It's a long time in coming but well worth the wait. In the past we would print out practice plans and then grapple with a piece of paper to find out which drill we were running. With USAHockey we can have practice plans at our fingertips on our smart phones.

Sometimes things just aren't worth the hassle. USAHockey is one of those things. I'm computer literate but after 45 minutes of changing passwords and creating accounts I finally get USAHockey loaded only to be told that I can't log in because this app didn't actually put in the account name and password I entered but a modified version they felt was better. There are much better, much easier to access apps on the iTunes store that do as much and more. Not worth the hassles. Even to poast this review I have to try to think up a unique Nickname! Really???!!! Thanks again this app!

The plans won’t save when you use the Plan Builder. I’ll spend an hour or more making a plan, attaching drills from USAHockey ’s database (which are poorly described and the graphics are FAR too small to see, even on an iPad) and click “save” on every item. Then when ice time comes, I’ll open up USAHockey and find that NOTHING was saved at all. Every feature of USAHockey is useless.

My advice is to go old school until the devs fix it, just bring a whiteboard to practice. At least then your whole practice plan won’t get randomly deleted.

This is a great tool to write your own skill practice and be able to show your team in full play. It's a changing world and ice time is expensive. Some players need more thanks to USA hockey I have started putting the drills in action on video and getting great results.

Good content but they have not thought out all the details. It is not optimized for the IPad so a bit clunky if you want to show it to teams during practice (2x mode, doesn't flip horizontal in all cases, etc.). Also I have not found a way to download videos. How many rinks have good WIFI or even cell signals inside the rink or locker room. So might be useless at practice.

Looking forward to the updates and improvements because it is a great idea with good content!

Just downloaded the FREE Coaching App from USA Hockey. It brings coaches into the 21st century. What a great tool for coaches. It will help coaches connect with their players and add a great visual tool for coaches. Between the Coaches Clinics, the On-Line Age Specific Modules and now the FREE mobile app the development of players skills should make steady progress.

USA Hockey's app is easy to navigate and very user-friendly. In addition to the on-ice content, the dry land materials will be a huge tool for youth coaches and players. I'm also looking forward to creating custom practice plans on the desktop companion. This will be a great resource for coaches & players!

USAHockey is a great start. A lot of good reference material to be accessed on the go. I suggest adding "hyperlinks" to the table of contents of the larger documents (playing rules for example) so you can easily jump to the information you want to look at. Thank you for the time and consideration that went into creating this free resource!

The coaching app is fantastic! USAHockey contains so much information and resources it is a must have for any youth hockey coach. Both the design and layout are simple to navigate. Signing up for an account was effortless. Nice job USA Hockey on providing a simple yet powerful solution for coaches on the go.

I love USAHockey but there are some problems that are going to cause me to stop using it.

My biggest issue is my custom Plan Builder practice plans aren’t consistently saving. I’ll work on it. I’ll add text/drills/etc, go back to other sections of USAHockey , come back, and poof - all my recent work is gone.

Videos don’t play. Would be great to be used but that’s a limiting factor. Password doesn’t accept special characters with account, had to reset my password to get in with something less complicated despite it working online.

The Plan Builder is not saving correctly. When you build a practice plan and go back out, or close USAHockey and try to find the practice plan you just built it’s been deleted. Other coaches on staff are experiencing the same issue. Frustrating to say the least.

Lots of great drills and videos. Unfortunately the plan builder is cumbersome and does not save consistently. Copying plans or saving under a different name so you don’t have to start from scratch each time also doesn’t work.

Love USAHockey use it every week. I’ve learned so much since I started 6 years ago. Thanks

A good place to begin in creating practice plans. Still figuring out tools and gadget but a very helpful tool

I don’t know how to word this other than it won’t open anything for me, I’ve sat here and tried to open everything one at a time and have given it 30 minutes to load but literally nothing will open for me to see

This is a wonderful tool I use daily. Please never take it away!
