Still doing it to lose weight but

I had the same issue as everyone. Losing money…even though I won. Specifically mine was StepBet, and I was doing really well, I was up to 20,000 steps even tho my goal was under 9,000. I was feeling amazing, and then another issue happened. Since it was my first game and one w a prize I didn’t realize that they awarded the prize before the game was even over. I mean the prize was a pair of shoes, I mean I need a new pair of shoes like I need a moose for a pet, but I still feel like the prize should go to someone who has won the game, guess that’s just crazy talk? I slumped into a depression like no other. I went from 20,000 steps to just doing my goal of under 9000. By the time I “won” I was fat and weighed more than my original starting weight, I never would have thought it would be that much of a mindkiller, but it was, sucked the joy right out of me.

When I first signed up for this particular app the screen page was misleading it made it look like you had to either buy into the monthly membership or the yearly membership, however if you looked at the far right corner there is an “X” if you click that you don’t have to pay a membership and can be a nonmember. I see that they keep claiming “operating costs” for why they take 25% of the pot…but I mean it would be nice if they detailed what those operation costs were, then maybe people wouldn’t be so miffed.

EXCELLENT customer service!

I’ve been using this app and its sister app, StepBet, for a few months now. They have both been great motivation during lockdown when it would be too easy to sit around doing nothing. l’ve lost 15 pounds! If you’re wondering how much you “win”, for a $100 bet (non-member games, which is usually a lower payout because they take out a percentage for overhead) I’ve gotten back amounts ranging from $4-15. I hear that lower stakes games actually give a better return, but I’m not trying to invest here, my motivator is not losing my $100. :)

The main reason I’m writing this review is that I am continually impressed by DietBet’s customer service. They reply very quickly, replies are personal and kind, they clearly read your message and take the time to understand your problem, and 100% of the time I have been happy with the resolution. I don’t have any more weight to lose but I will keep using both apps (this app has weight maintenance games) in large part because of their great support staff. Give those ladies a raise!

Great concept~App has a lot of room for growth

This is my first time using this app and I just completed my first this app. The Wayans have been great the pictures have uploaded fine and you can join up to three games which is great. My main issue is that I feel DietBet isn’t as good as it has the potential to be. There are possibilities for growth that I know if they achieve, it would be flawless and I’m sure in time they will get there. I also encourage the company to set perhaps some stronger rules for the hosts of the this app. Many people in the one I’ve just completed complained that there was not nearly enough host interaction, and I would agree. I think that having a great host ensures great success for this company, which I really hope for! I’m still on board 100% and I’m excited for my next this app! Thanks for being a motivation for all of us who are doing our best to make our lives better.

Great community!

Just completed my first two DietBets! Loved Jenn, the creator of my bets, her ideas, her challenges! Happy with my progress and love the community feel and support!
DietBet was easy to navigate with a little use. App does not allow the use of emoji's which looked strange.
I wish there was a link on my profile to see just my activities, posts, likes, and comments. Also, I could find the pictures that I posted but couldn't get them to load right side up, or zoom in on them.
I had to scroll for a long time to see my actual posts. Same for the people who liked and commented on my posts and who I liked and commented on. I could not find a particular person's posts by any sort of search that I could find. The only way I could find a person was to go back to my notifications and search for them by name. Wish DietBet allowed a simpler way to connect with people.
I will probably do another this app. this app helped a lot and I really got into the challenge! It was also great to be able to scroll through DietBet instead of one of my others when I have downtime.

Not quite sure I did it right!

I am just one week in on my first bet and I’m not sure I’m doing it right! I am finding DietBet hard to get started with. I wish it had a get started tutorial to walk me through the first weigh in and all the aspects of it. I just saw my message this morning that I needed to resubmit my initial weigh in. I weighed in last week and submitted my photos, but just now I’m understanding that my weigh-in word was supposed to come from DietBet . I didn’t realize that last week and since I lost 2 pounds since then, I don’t want to start over now!

I love the concept of it and I’m only taking away one star because maybe I just didn’t take enough time before I tried to submit my photos to understand DietBet first. I have organized and ran weight loss contests before for the firemen and their families at our local volunteer fire dept and this would sure make it easier than keeping track and figuring all those weights and percentages on my own.

Excited for the next few weeks, and good weight loss progress!

Text too small, and other issues!

As you will see from these reviews, DietBet needs work. I hope the developers are taking stock of all comments, however, I’ve been on DietBet on and off for over a year and can’t say I have noticed substantial improvements. Not good! For starters, INCREASE the text size!!! DietBet has the tiniest text. When I asked support about it they told me to adjust text size in my phone’s settings. It did not work with my iPhone 6. It works on my iPhone 7 however, in order to get it to an appropriate size, everything else on my phone is ridiculously huge! Come on DB! Another issue I have with the concept of this game is that the winnings are inflated by payments to paint a rosier picture. The fact is, when I win it may be $5-$10 over what I paid for the game. But if you lose, your lost payment was likely $25-$35! The risk here is much greater than the benefit! You just need to know that going in. Knowing this, I have played multiple games, but at this point I am just trying to recoup one lose I had last year and stay ahead!

The App needs work!

I love this app and the community, I’ve been playing for about 9 months and I’ve lost over 80lbs so far, and that’s because of this app so for that I would give it a 5 STARS but, DietBet is quite annoying to me. Here’s a few things I think DietBet could use:
1. A way to save future games, sometimes I’ll browse and I want to be able to save the game so that I quickly can get back to it and purchase it instead of having to scroll through the entire feed again
2. The notification panel is useless, it would be more useful if we could click on the notification and it would take us to our post or comment or reply and make it easier for players to communicate.
3. When you weigh-in for a game you get asked to put in your weight first and then take the picture but you can’t click on your picture to enlarge it and write down your weight
4. Prize winner: I won a prize once and I didn’t even knew I had won because I couldn’t see the notification for it. They sent me an email but it came from a different name than this app & it was sent to my spam folder lol it was a mess.

I think streamlining the process and DietBet will take this app to the next level & make it more fun for the players. I’d love for it to be even more interactive and to make it easier for players to share and save tips faster, like being able to bookmark a recipe or a certain post someone posted.

Thanks for helping me lose weight, I truly love this app for keeping me accountable all this time!!

App improvement ideas

Overall DietBet is good, but I do think it needs a few improvements. Have the product designers include today’s date next to the word of the day. It wasn’t clear to me when I did my first weigh in if the word was actually for me to use for weigh in validation, or if it was an example word as part of a first timer’s tutorial. I wanted to make sure I did it right because I didn’t want to be disqualified, so I searched the entire app and website for clarification but it still wasn’t clear so I just guessed that was it. I know that’s a very minor thing, but I know app designers want their products to be as user friendly and intuitive as possible, so thought they might want to make that adjustment. Also, it’s weird that you have to go to ‘settings>account settings’ to upload a profile picture. This option should be in ‘profile’. Too many steps for one simple task and hard to find. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you guys know ;-)

Scam

First off, you can lose weight with diet and exercise without putting money towards an app! DietBet is a scam! I’ve participated in three dietbets, so far, and lost money on all three! Not because I didn’t lose my 4% weight, I succeeded my weight loss goal each time, but the whole point is to have LESS people in your diet bet succeed so you don’t have to split the money pool! The more people succeed, the less money you get AND when you initially sign up, you have to read the fine print and un click to their fee or it’s an added hidden charge, so you lost additional money! Each time I won my diet bet, I was in the negative from my initial bet because of DietBet charge and from almost everyone meeting their goal! I want people to get healthy! I want to root for others, but DietBet has you only rooting for yourself and wanting others to lose so you can, at least, make back what you bet! In DietBet, you earn less if more people win! What a scam! Just exercise and eat less calories than you take in and save your money from DietBet scamming you!

Great App! Make sure you read the details

Or you will feel disappointed your winnings. I am not a fan of the “membership” which is now automatically added to your cart. This is my only negative. Otherwise, I’ve never been motivated to loose weight until money was on the line. I’ve cycled through ups and downs (four pregnancies) and have played about 30 games (you can play 3 at once) and have always come out ahead. I wouldn’t recommend a January bet, as the majority of people win and the winnings are exceptionally small, after this app takes their cut. But it is a business and as long as I win something, I’m happy. If you are looking for big bucks, this probably isn’t your platform, but with the average bet at $35, what do you expect? I’ve averaged about 50% profit per game, so definitely worth it for me!

Hesitant at first... LOVE IT NOW!

When the idea was first proposed to me by my sister-in-law I was not interested. Not interested in using an app. Not interested in the photo weigh ins as they seemed “too complicated”. Not interested in some thing I knew nothing about. She started a game with about 12 family members of ours. That put it into a better perspective for me as I was competing with people I knew and would “judge me”/know if I didn’t lose my weight. The concept makes you bet on YOURSELF. Its not a typical competition where you feel like you’re competing to lose the most amount of weight humanly possible with other people who are in better shape than you. If you lose your weight %, you are a WINNER. And thats a good feeling. Photo weigh ins are super easy. I would and have recommended to so many others :)

Unfair “improvement” don’t update the app!

I have been using this app on and off for the past year and have lost about 17 pounds. I like the idea and am happy with my overall progress for my general health. On the old app version, you were able to see your progress pictures in addition to your documented weight trend. However with the new version, you are no longer able to see your own pictures side by side, instead you have to pay extra to become a member to see your own progress! This is unfair! When they list the update in DietBet Store with “improves bugs” they don’t tell you that they will be taking away previously permitted functions. This is frustrating because I was able to see my progress and be motivated by the visual improvement. I am very upset by this finding and encourage all users to avoid updating DietBet , because you lose this function and motivating factor. I am unsure if I will continue using DietBet , and will likely request a pay out from my previous wins.

Motivation I needed!

I recently had a baby 4 months ago and was struggling to drop the last 10lbs on my own as I had a hard time being consistently motivated. My weight would fluctuate, and I’d give up. I joined a this app as the goal was both achievable (drop 4%) in a reasonable amount of time that was fairly short term for me (in 4 weeks). I’m more than halfway to my goal now, and I’m even more motivated to keep going. If you are competitive at all, this is an amazing tool to motivate you to achieve your health goals!

(**Important Note: I will say that you need a healthy way to drop weight though. No one should be starving themselves to win or manipulating your calories to eat junk food. I used the 2B Mindset method, but you should find a healthy, safe way to get to your goal. You can do this! ;D)

Renewed hope

Participating in the DietBets have renewed my hope in the fact that I am in control of my weight loss and that with hard work and consistency, I win! This is a simple process wherein you are not competing with other people, you just have to lose 4% of your weight in a 30 day period. There is a sense of community because other participants are rooting for you as they accomplish their goals too. The journaling is a bonus feature for me because it allows me to create goals and keep track of my goals right within DietBet ...so easy!! I’m going to keep doing these bets until I reach my goal and then I will create another goal and participate in the maintenance bets. I’ve lost Weight in the past but never kept it off, I now feel like that won’t be an issue anymore. Thank you to whoever created this program.

DietBet is a great motivator!

I’m a big fan - joining the best sets a concrete, specific, and reasonable goal to achieve and provides a community to support throughout the process. The game aspect of it for me has been super helpful and motivating, the coaches and participants also provide lots of support and encouragement. I also live the accountability of having to weigh in regularly - it keeps me honest.

I pay the extra for the membership fee and I maximize it by playing membership gains where the winners split the whole pot.

The program is simple and elegantly designed in my opinion. Some complain that the company makes too much, but that seems uninformed to me about how much it takes to operate a business - there aren’t too many services and businesses that can operate on only 25% of their gross revenue. Rather, because the program works and if I make my goals I’m not paying for the service at all - that’s a win win. If I lose a bet, I knew going in what the risk was, and even if I lose the bet I’ve lost some weight.

I highly recommend this program to all my friends and family. I also love StepBet and WayBetter games for the same reasons.

Great concept, Iffy app

Update since app response:
I did contact the support contact through DietBet . It’s been over two weeks and still no response. However, I find that if I double click the home button and swipe clear the open app it works again the next time I use DietBet , without restarting my phone. So hopefully this trick can help some people with the same issue.

I love the concept of this app. I’ve done a few games now and won them all! DietBet , however, needs work. It freezes nearly every time I use it. I have to restart my phone to get it to work and after a minute or so it freezes again. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to weigh out properly because of this. Luckily, I got it to work for a minute when I did it. Because of the freezing issue, I couldn’t really participate in the social aspect of DietBet , which would have been nice.

Great for community and accountability!!

I’m finishing up my 2nd this app! I’ve really enjoyed the sense of community! We lift each other up on bad days and celebrate together the good days! The weekly weigh-ins keep me accountable and give me something to aim for!

There are a couple of changes that I’d like to see. First, when you’re scrolling through the activity page and you click on someone’s profile. After you look at the profile and click back, it takes you back to the top of the activity page. It should take me back to the post I was on. Secondly, essentially the same thing happens when you click on notifications. When you go back it takes you to the top of the activity page. A little nit picky, but annoying nonetheless.

Changed my life!

UPDATE: I’m surprised by the recent negative reviews! It’s not a scam, that’s for sure! I had put on a little weight over the holidays and quarantine so I jumped into some New Year’s games. I won! Not a big payout because there were a lot of winners - yay us!! The weight is gone! That’s what I came here for! ORIGINAL review: DietBet was THE motivator to keep me focused on my weight loss journey. I’ve lost about 70 lbs, am very close to my goal and feel amazing. I wasn’t worried about making money, I just didn’t want to lose money! That kept me focused when things got tough...having money on the line. It’s a fun, engaging, supportive community and I am so thankful to have found it! I highly recommend this app! LOVE IT!!

Really Motivating

I am 50lbs overweight after having 2 babies in 2 years. I joined this app with a bunch of neighbors in the beginning of the year and won! That was motivation to do another one! I won again and now again! I’m down 20lbs in 3 months and it feels great! In order to have slow and steady weight loss I eat less (with the this app in mind it def helps), exercise 4 days a week, and make better choices in my diet. The this app doesn’t teach you HOW to diet it just makes you more accountable for sticking TO your diet. If you want to eat that extra cookie you have to figure that in a few weeks you may lose your bet so it’s probably best not to! Try it and you’ll see. Even if you do one bet, it’ll be good for you!!! Good luck!!

Great community

You'll likely lose weight if money motivates you. I've done 2 dietbets now and it really shows you how eating affects your weight. Healthy eating, I lost weight. Same old strategies, I stayed stagnant. Eating whatever I wanted, I gained. The concept and most of DietBet is good. 5 stars would be: swipe right to go back to a previous page, be able to comment by clicking in the box rather than clicking the word "comment", and seeing what was liked easier than a small area filled with words where most have a link. It was hard to tell what I was clicking on. My Fitbit was connected at one point but I only saw when it posted, once. It was just hard to find things like that and it could be cleaned up better. Overall good app and I look forward to future versions!

SLOW and poorly thought out

The new app is more disappointing than a movie without sound, but the company keeps pushing it like we—the ones actually using it—are liking it. In fact, aside from the reliability of the weigh-ins, the changes are for the worst. For starters, the “your games” section is not efficient in anyway. They took a feature that the old app desperately needed and they made it difficult to like by putting too much emphasis on graphics and animation, causing the games to take forever to load. Additionally, the names of the games take up unnecessary space—missing the opportunity to quickly tell you basic game facts like weigh-in days, or beginning and end game dates. You’ll have to wait for your seltzer water to go flat before the game loads to tell you those simple things.

Also, the comment section/function is almost useless if you can’t access your notifications in record timing because clicking on it doesn’t take you to your actual post or the replies to your comment—who knows why. Instead, it just brings you to that game’s news feed and you have to hunt for the mystery message... but these are just a few things wrong, you’ll have to check it out to see the rest!

Happy dieting!
